Take Responsibility for Your Attitude

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants.” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present.” – Unknown

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation” – Brian Tracy.

What is attitude? Attitude is “the way that you think, feel or behave” – Oxford Dictionary. Attitude is a complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in a certain way.

We all have an attitude. Your attitude is usually the reaction you exhibit towards external stimuli. This is your response to an event or circumstance. How you react is totally dependant on the mental state of your mind, emotional feelings, and values you hold.

Your attitude towards life reflects the values you hold. This also reflects the way you live your life. If you have a positive mental attitude, you are more likely to live a very fulfilling and happy life. The opposite is also true if you have a negative mental attitude.

It is your responsibility to have a great attitude and maintain it. Remember that you have the power and control over the things that have a direct influence on your attitude. Do not think that your attitude runs on autopilot, no. You are responsible for it.

It is amazing to note that many of us are always giving excuses for our wrong or bad attitudes. Excuses, like I woke up on the wrong side, should never be entertained.

If you have to have a positive and successful life you should create a positive attitude towards life. Life gives you back what you give it.

Like I have said before, life will always give you surprises, what is important is the way you react to them. If you resolve to take a positive preposition, you will definitely triumph over any situation that may come your way.

I know, that sometimes it may be difficult to stay positive, but that’s what life entails, being able to overcome adversities.

We all fall down but very few get up. Even those that get up, very few rise quickly and strong enough to continue on the positive side of life.

You cannot control what happens around you, but you can consciously control your reactions and emotions. Attitude is everything, it governs the way you perceive the world and the way the world perceives you.

I have listed some of the strategies I use to help improve my attitude.

Lightening Up Life With Humor

They say laughter is medicinal. The more humor and laughter in your life the less stress you have. I try as much as possible to see the funny side of life every day. I believe that God created us to live a happy life but he also gave us a choice.

It is next to impossible to feel stressed, angry, anxious, or depressed when you laugh. Laughter not only provides pleasure, but it also serves to:

  • reduce stress and other forms of emotional misery such as anxiety and fear.
  • bond us with our fellow humorists, which in turn give us even more pleasure.
  • boosts our immune system, lowers our blood pressure, oxygenates our blood, relaxes our muscles, and increases our pain tolerance, all of which gives us much more energy for more future laughter, pleasure, and happiness.

As can be seen from above when you choose to be happy; when you choose to laugh, you have less stress in your life.

You may not realise it, but the truth of the matter is that you have more power than you may know. The power to choose is a tool that is at everyone’s disposal all the time.

Ever since I took on the journey of personal development I have discovered that the power to chose lies squarely within my rights.

I have also learned to choose wisely and stick with my decisions. This is also something that I teach my children.

That they have the power to make their own choices and they should be responsible for the consequences of the choices they make.

Physical Exercising

One of the best ways to relieve stress is taking physical exercise. I have noticed that creating a regular routine of exercise not only gives me energy but also helps to unwind my mind. Exercising is also a source of motivation.

I normally go for my running routine early in the morning before I do anything. After the morning run, I have more than enough energy to see me through the day.

I encourage you to exercise regularly. Not only is exercising healthy for your body but also your mind and soul. You feel very refreshed after a workout. Your mind is more focused and your body is kept in optimum tune.

I believe that any form of exercise that suits you is good enough. Although it could be necessary that you consulted a physiotherapist if you have any underlying health conditions to help you devise a suitable routine for exercising.

Being Enthusiastic

Being enthusiastic means showing interest in the things that you do and getting pleasure from them. It means having an active and motivated attitude instead of a passive one. Keywords getting pleasure.

If you do not get pleasure from your daily work it might just mean that you are in the wrong field. Believe me, the main source of de-motivation is waking up every day and doing something that is not enjoyable. Hey, I have been there before.

I am one who is very much enthusiastic about what I do. Especially, writing articles for this blog. I find that am at peace and at home when I sit down to write.

I know that there are still a lot of areas that need to be improved, but I take pride in my work so far.

Being enthusiastic allows me to draw the much-needed energy to continue with my work. Enthusiasm is very key to taking responsibility for your attitude.

It is the burning desire that communicates commitment, determination, and spirit.

Enthusiasm is one of the most empowering and attractive characteristics you could ever have. Being enthusiastic speaks volumes about your attitude.

The Attitude of Positive Affirmations

“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you” – Brian Tracy.

Affirmations are statements that reinforce positive thoughts and attitudes. Am sure you have noticed that on the right bar of this website there are some quotes. I also deliberately try as much as possible to include positive quotes in my articles.

I find that frequently reading or reciting positive quotes can help lift my mood and therefore, increase my attitude towards life in general.

There are many sources for finding positive affirmations. I have a book full of them. I also recommend the Bible.

Positive affirmations can help you re-focus your mind when you are feeling downtrodden. That is why it is important that before you begin your day read a verse from the Bible. The Bible is the greatest source of encouragement for me.

When you develop the habit of making positive affirmations you will realise that there is a quote for almost every situation and circumstance.

Pay close attention to what you are saying to yourself it could just change your attitude.

Conclusion

Taking responsibility for your attitude could just help you accelerate your personal development and self-improvement attributes. It is, therefore, important that you realise as an individual that you are solely responsible for your attitude.

You have the right and power to decide how you are going to react to a particular situation. Having control of your attitude can also enhance the quality of your life.

Time to Change Relationships that Need to be Changed

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

The year 2020 will be remembered as a year that came with a lot of change. It changed the order of doing things. We were all either affected and or infected by the virus that has continued to ravage the world, the COVID-19 pandemic.

This change has been forced upon us. We have had to adapt to the new norm of doing things, such as wearing face masks, regular use of hand sanitisers, and taking extra precautions when going out in public. Social gatherings are restricted. But, like in every other challenge some people have thrived and some have, all but complained.

The lessons taken from the preceding year are very valuable. The experiences of the closing year have taught us that we need to change some relationships going forward. There is need to readjust our lives to conform to the new order of doing things.

Humans are well known for being social in nature. In Africa we love large gatherings, be it social, political, spiritual, or whatever, we just love them. However, I don’t see this coming back in the shortest possible time. Surely for as long as the COVID-19 pandemic is around, life will not be as it was before.

How to Make the Change

A nice way to make the change, as we begin the new year is to identify your relationships and evaluate them. Clarify your relationships on how you would like them to affect the various aspects of your life. Then take the necessary action that you would expect to improve these relationships. You need to make rational goals.

For example, the following relationships have a bearing on my life:-

  • Finances/money
  • Family
  • Work
  • Health
  • Friends
  • Spirituality
  • Website

I will take the relationship with finances/money as an example. Am sure that most of us have a story to tell on this one. If your relationship with finances is not as good as it should be, maybe you are struggling to make earns meet or maybe your current job does not pay as much as you should be getting.

List down your monthly expenses and compare them with your current income. Now, list down your desired expenditure and compare it with your current income. Your desired expenditure is what you would like to be spending on a monthly basis without stressing.

Identify and cut down on unnecessary expenditure. Find more ways to improve your earnings to supplement your current paycheck. If your current job is not flexible enough to allow you to do extra work maybe, it is not the right job for you.

Invest in your skills by getting an education that will help enhance your career and productivity. Read more about how to manage finances/money. Have definite, realistic, and achievable goals that will keep you motivated. Work on your goals every day.

This year I have set a target to create passive income for myself. It seems hard work for now, but I think it will pay off as this will greatly improve my income and free up time for me. I have identified a few sources that I think are worth trying out. I will be sharing during the course of the year on the progress.

You may be asking, what if you do not realise your goals within the time frame? Well, you can adjust the time frame, the most important thing is, you have a target you are working towards. You have something to work with.

One of the reasons why we have a poor relationship with our finances is that we work for money instead of letting money work for us.

Set Resolutions for the Year

One way of keeping track of your progress is to have a set of written down resolutions and a habit of reviewing them on a regular basis. This year resolve to improve on your shortcomings. Resolve to improve on those poor relationships that are greatly affecting your life negatively.

Make resolutions and work towards achieving them. Start with a few that can easily be managed. This will encourage and challenge you to move on to those that will take you much longer and are seemingly difficult to repair or manage.

The best time for me to make resolutions is usually at the beginning of the calendar year. However, there is no rule, you can actually make them at any time of the year and begin to work on them as you please. But you must make and work them anyway.

It is a good idea to have resolutions that are precise and measurable. This way, when you are reviewing them, you will be able to determine how much progress has been made and determine if there is need for adjustment. I normally review mine on a quarterly basis.

Yes, I know that sometimes I lag behind. By reviewing my resolutions on a regular basis ensures that am reminded of them and can easily get to work on improving those that have remained behind. I find it normal that there are always some that I carry forward into the following year.

Be Optimistic

To be optimistic is to be hopeful and confident about the future. Being optimistic is key in ensuring that you achieve the resolutions that you have set. It is an important ingredient to have when we have set targets for ourselves.

Otherwise, there is no point in setting goals and resolutions that you are not optimistic of achieving. That is why it is important to set goals and resolutions that are fairly reasonable and achievable.

That nice feeling you get when you have accomplished a task should be repeated more often. It should be what drives you to even greater heights. You must make it your driving force and leverage on it to push you in your quest for personal development and self-growth.

Being optimistic is a great sign of confidence in what you are doing. It shows that you are in control and are expectant of positive results. Yes, sometimes results may not be as expected. But this should not make you give up.

Conclusion

If you want to succeed you must develop a habit of setting resolutions at the beginning of every year. This helps you set the tone and pace and what you are going to achieve during the year. It gives you a sense and purpose to live life. “For changes to be of any true value, they’ve got to be lasting and consistent” – Tony Robbins.

Your Attitude and Self Application Determines Your Success

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

We all want to be successful. Don’t we? If you are an ambitious person, am confident that you are determined to achieve your success; that you are working round the clock to achieving your success. But being successful is not an easy fit. Because if it was, everyone one of us would have achieve our success.

The world would have been a totally different place than it is today. It would have been teeming with successful people. I can only imagine what it would have been like.

There are so many theories and formulas on how to become successful. Well,  I have not found an answer that is a one size fits all. However, reading and researching on the subject has helped me realise that there is no shot cut and substitute for hard work and self application.

Yes, you may have the desire; and that is very important; you may have the best tools at your disposal; but without the correct mental attitude and without taking action. Believe me you will not achieve your success. Why? because you will not have taken action. It is action which is very important.

To achieve your success, you need to have the right mental attitude; you need to apply yourself, because along the way you will be met with temporal setbacks. Things will not always go according to your expectations or plans. You will fall down and your attitude towards these temporal failures will largely determine how well you will achieve your success.

Your tenacity and willingness to learn from your mistakes; to know when to make adjustments; to take corrective measures where necessary will surely give you an advantage as you pursue your success. You will learn that to achieve your success you will need be a good leader of yourself. One who knows when to make drastic changes.

If you don’t apply your self you are certainly headed for failure. Sometimes, when we are faced with challenges, we always look for the easy way out. There are times I have felt like am dreaming and hope that when I wakeup, boom the problems would have disappeared.

But guess what, if you do not attend to the challenges you encounter they are surely doing more damage and will surface back to haunt you. I know for sure, that some challenges we face can be difficult to handle, but that does not mean you should turn a blind eye to them. Wakeup from your slumber and face them head on.

Keep Your Faith and Hopes Alive

The bible says “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” When feeling frustrated because of your inability to achieve your goals, there is no need to lose faith and hope. Never lose your faith and hope when faced with frustrations.

Frustrations are a part of life. They are part of the learning process. It is very important to continue persisting and keep your faith and hopes alive. Focus on the bigger picture. Develop a mental attitude that will motivate you to achieve your goals.

The frustrations and challenges we go through are merely a way of building us up. They help prepare us to handle even bigger responsibilities. You should know that being successful comes with  responsibilities. The more successful you are, the more responsibilities you carry on your shoulders.

Keep in mind the joy, feeling and benefits that accrue with accomplishing your success. I know that it is not easy to keep focused when things are not going your way. But this is the time when we should exercise our faith and hope in God Almighty. The bible encourages us to put our plans in Gods hands. Believe me, he is faithful to those who are faithful to him.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is having faith without works. Yes it is good to have faith, but the bible says that “faith without works is dead.” Faith alone cannot save you. You need to take action on your faith to produce results. To achieve your success you need to take action on your faith.

How then do you develop this faith? Well, the bible says “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” The preceding statement is very loud and clear. You cannot develop faith without hearing about it.

Now, with so many tools at our disposal we have no excuse to not have heard about the word of God. The bible is a source of inspiration for me. I encourage you to develop a habit of spending time reading and practising the word of God.

Do Not be Afraid of Your Failures

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives” so says Newell D. Hillis. “Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go” – William Feather.

If you want to be successful you should not be afraid of failing. Failure is synonymous with success. Those who have succeeded have failed before. The more you fail the greater the chance of success. Well you may not agree with all these statements.

But the truth of the matter is you will never succeed without failure. So you might as well get used to the fact that being afraid will only prolong or indeed deter your from your success. Get over with being afraid of the unknown.

It is time for you to put your plans to action; to begin to realise those dreams. The more you act on your plans the more fearless you become. Sometimes I feel fear is just a state of mind or rather laziness. Yes, laziness. I believe that it is better to die trying than not to try at all. “I failed my way to success” –
Thomas Edison.

Conclusion

How far you go in life is largely determined by how far you are willing to go. In other words you determine the level of your success by the actions you take. I found this article on how to increase your success chances very helpful check it out. Unit next time remember that “your action and and self application determines your success.”

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Life is full of challenges. Everyday comes with its own challenges. If you give up, you are acknowledging failure. You are embracing failure. We were designed to overcome all difficulties that come our way. I don’t know what you are facing but I know that you are sorely responsible for your life. “How you respond to the challenge in the second half will determine what you become after the game, whether you are a winner or a loser” – Lou Holtz.

It is your responsibility to do your very best to overcome all issues that come with life. If you sit and wait for someone, they will never show up. It is entirely up you to do something about it. Get up and get moving for challenges do not last a life time, they last, but a moment.

Challenges are a sign of things to come. They are merely a test of your mental attitude and character. The challenges we go through in our life help build our characters. The way you handle your current challenges determines how far you will go in achieving your success. Surely success does not come easily. It does not come on a silver platter.

If it were easy we would all be successful and am sure that life would be boring. There would be no motivation to life. Challenges help us find solutions to life. “Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful” – Joshua J. Marine.

In your journey to succeed you will fail many times but that should not stop you from reaching your goals. Problems are temporal, they are the path to success. You will achieve whatever you set your mind on, but that does not mean it will come without great cost. Every good thing comes at a high cost. There is always a price to pay for you to enjoy long lasting success.

One of the biggest problems I have noticed especially with the current generation is wanting to cut corners. Wanting to compete with other people. Measuring success by possessional materials. Being envious of other peoples achievements. Just because you have seen your friend seemingly doing fine, you also want to do the same. No! live your own life.

Learn How to Handle Your Own Your Challenges

I believe that there are no problems that are insurmountable. In my life I have faced some very challenging situations that at times have left me feeling helpless. Some of the problems are as a result of my bad decisions and some are not of my own making. But in all, I have learnt to handle them positively.

I remember the first time I lost my job due to restructuring. It was very difficult to comprehend then and it actually took me sometime to open up and start telling people about it. I thought it was the end of the world. Maybe, the only consolation then was that I was still very young and learning life.

It took me some time to actually come to terms with the fact that I was un employed. Young as I was, I had to re-focus my life. I know that its not easy when you have lost your only source of income. But there is always a way out. Sometimes things happen for us to see the other side of life. Losing a source of income is not the end of your life but rather it is the beginning of a new challenge in your life.

Stop complaining about not having an income and start working on your next big income stream. If you can see the invisible you can achieve the impossible. Start seeing the invisible. If promotion is not coming, what are you doing about it? If you are looking for a huge business contract are you ready for it? Are you prepared to handle the many responsibilities that come with huge business contracts?

The thing is, you may be going through challenges right now but, you are not the only one. Learn from your current situation and get ready for the next big step in your life. God blesses people he can trust. He blesses people who are ready and willing to take the challenge.

Keep Moving Forward

When you are faced with problems the most important thing to do is to keep moving forward. Yes, sometimes it seems impossible to even just motivate yourself, but just keep moving anyway. Ever since I took on the journey of personal development I have learned that not all days are the same. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

But even in your loss there is a pinch of victory, because you will have learned how not to fail. You may not notice it, but you are slowly growing as you move forward. I like giving the example of my website, every time I successfully publish an article, I know that am moving forward.

The more I write the more I move forward, the more I move forward, the closer I get to achieving my dream of building a reputable and successful personal development and self growth website. For me the main focus and motivation for this site is to encourage someone to achieve their dreams.

Look, if I can contribute in a small way am more than happy to do that. I am not perfect but more than willing to help. And you know this site is also a source of motivation for me that is why I intend to keep providing free self improvement content and materials.

Conclusion

Only by contending with challenges that seem to be beyond your strength to handle at the moment you can grow more surely toward the stars” – Brian Tracy. I would like encourage you to take steps that will help you to overcome life’s challenges. After all challenges are what make us grow. When you where a baby you had to overcome the fear of falling when learning how to walk. You were fearless. Get back that attitude and start overcoming your current situation. Bye and remember to conquer your challenges.

Adversity Introduces You to Yourself

Motivational Quotes

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Hillis.

Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache, carries with it the Seed of an equivalent or greater Benefit” – Napoleon Hill. We have all experienced misfortunes. Some have come out scathed and bruised and some have come out un scathed. There are many lessons we learn when faced with adversity.

Goals are like the stars; they are always there. Adversity is like the clouds; they are temporary and will move on. Keep your eyes focused on the stars. Your goals will always be there. But for you to reach them they will always be challenges. The adversities we face in life are what makes us grow.

The highest courage is to dare to be yourself in the face of adversity. Choosing right over wrong, ethics over convenience, and truth over popularity. These are the choices that measure your life. Travel the path of integrity without looking back, for there will never be a wrong time to do the right thing. Focus your mind on what is right and not on who is right.

When you are deep in the middle of the storm, when you are at your darkest moments of your life. You have tried everything you can and nothing seems to be working. Am sure you can relate to this situation. At moments like this is when most people will just give up. They will throw in the towel. But do you know that if you have to achieve personal development it comes with a high price. In fact the greater your achievement the high the price.

If you have been told that personal growth is easy, get it from me that is not true. There is no quick fix to personal Development. I have never found one. The only formula I have found is being persistent and getting up when I fall. I have refused to accept defeat. Yes, sometimes it feels like nothing is going my way. But I keep pushing sometimes not for myself but for the sake of my family and the people around me.

When you are faced with life’s challenges do not be quick to point at your failures. Do not play the blame game. But instead its time to summon your inner self and focus your energies on facing the challenges with a positive attitude.

After Adversity Comes Rewards

No adversity lasts forever. Misfortunes come and go. “Weeping may endure for a night but Joy comes in the morning” – Psalms. God always gives a way where there seems to be no way. He is always by your side if only you can pay attention to his counsel and direction. I want to believe that when we overcome challenges we grow to another level. It is our responsibility to triumph over them. “Adversity is the diamond dust that heaven polishes its jewels with. large sailing ship moving onward” – Leighton.

Those who have succeeded know that they will fail, not just once but many times. They learn lessons from the failures they endure. They never give up when faced with adversity. If you are not prepared to overcome challenges, then you are not prepared for success.  I believe that hard times prepare us for better ones to come. For to he who is given more, more of him is required. Great success comes with great responsibility.

There is no way you will succeed without going through the mill, never. Otherwise we would all be successful. Everyone of us would be enjoying a successful life. Every storm that comes your way is followed with calmness. For every mountain you climb is followed by great rewards. Do not give up and slide back when climbing your mountains.

Yes, the maintain may be marred with mud but keep your mind focused on the reward that follows. The mud will be dry for you to step on and move forward with a ease. Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I’ll show you someone who has overcome adversity.

We all face different challenges everyday of our lives. Some challenges seem insurmountable, some seem obvious. There is no one size fits all solution to overcoming them. It calls on one using there own wisdom and intuition to tackling them. I Personally prepare my day by saying a prayer early in the morning.

Thanking God Almighty for giving me the opportunity, to serve him; the opportunity to enjoy life;  the privilege to interact with people and for the grace to write articles. I also thank him for what he has prepared for me for the day. I refuse to be negative. Early in the morning I make the decision to be happy.

I always include my family in the prayer. I seek for God’s guidance, protection and wisdom. They say prayer moves mountains.

Conclusion

I would like to end with one of my favourite prayers “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”. Its always a pleasure to write for your bye and remember to “standout tall”.

The potential for improvement lies within you. We all have the power to change and make improvements to our lives. No matter where you are or what you have done before, there is always room and opportunities for growth, the choice is yours. All growth is from within, but it has to be nurtured. Take a seed for example, given the right nutrients and conditions. It sprouts to become a tree and bears fruit. Whether that fruit is good,  depends on the consistency of the nurturing.

Exactly the same with you, but more so that you have the choice and are in control of what you take in. You decide where you want to go and what you want to do. In other words you have a free will. You have the will to be or not to be, the will to do or not to do. The earlier you realise in life, that the power and the potential for improvement is within, the better for you to lay down a solid foundation for yourself. The more you realise that the authority and ability for improvement is within, the more easily you chart your own scope for growth.

But unless and only if you tap into this inner resource, personal improvement will always remain potential. That is the difference between successful and average people. The most successful people have known how to tap into this power to realise their full potential. We have heard about sportsmen and women who were highly rated in the earlier stages of their careers but never got to fulfill their full potential. They say the greatest tragedy of the average man is that they are buried with their never sung songs.

Be a Student of Yourself

This may sound absurd to many, yet it is true. If you have to succeed you need to continuously be a student of yourself. Yes, a student of yourself. Take time to fully, understand your emotions, your desires and your thought patterns. Know your weakness and your strengths. Funny as it may sound, but there are people who do not even know what there weaknesses and strengths are. Learn everything you need to know about yourself.

We are all made differently, I believe that God does not make duplicates. What may work for me might not necessarily work for you. Study and know yourself, I have found out that writing down helps me to remember a lot of stuff. I am not super intelligent so I cannot totally rely on my memory only. That is why I carry a note book with me most of the times. In this note book there are so many things written down.

I am constantly writing down ideas and the things am learning every time. I have attended so many meetings, and it is amazing to notice that many people do not take down notes. Worse still they do not carry note books to meetings. Well I guess it is just me, but I have noted that taking down notes works wonders for me. Every time I sit down to review my notes, it all begins to flow back. This has really helped improve my productivity.

Being a student of yourself entails trying out so many things and finding the things that work best for you. Not everything will work for you. Like I recently discovered that playing soft classical music in the back ground while doing some work, actually works well for me.

The study of your self is a life long process. It means that you must continuously pay attention to yourself. This process also requires some personal time. A time when you can sit down alone and reflect, a time when you can introspect. I usually do this early in the morning and late at night just before going to bed.

Keep Your Eyes on the Ball

You cannot hit a target you cannot see. Life is like a game of football, the general idea is to score more goals than your opponents. In a game of football the target is to hit the ball past the other goalkeeper. To do that you must ensure that your team keeps possession of the ball. This can only be achieved by keeping your eyes on the movement of the ball and ensuring that you have control of the ball.

In life however, you set your own targets and this you must do. If you have not yet found your life’s purpose I strongly encourage you to do so right now and begin to work towards achieving it. Unlike in a football match were you outscore your opponents, in life you will fail many times. Your goal is to keep moving. The closer you move towards achieving your life’s purpose the more progressive you are. This is the only way you can measure your progress. Remember that personal development should be measured only by you and not outsiders.

Just like in the game of football your opponents are also trying hard to score, you must be prepared to face adversities in life. Do not let what people say about you, to be a distraction. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you have no control over what people think of you. Consider people as spectators watching a football match, they can only cheer and grumble depending on what they see. They have no control of the game, but you have control of the game called life. It is entirely and squarely in your hands.

What matters most is what you think about yourself. That should be what propels you. If you think you are successful well and good enjoy your success. Just keep your mind focused on the task at hand. Work to improve on it and give it your best shot.

Conclusion

We all have the ability to improve our lives. This potential for improvement is God given. God gave us the power and will to decide what we want for our lives. “Consult not your fears, but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you have tried and failed in, but for what is still possible for you to do” – Pope John XXIII. Remember to always standout tall and be counted.

At the Heart of Every Obstacle Lies an Opportunity

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

There is no short cut. Victory lies in overcoming obstacles everyday“. When life takes a turn and brings about an unexpected obstacles, we react with our emotions. One may face fear, resentment, anger and doubt. It is absolutely humane to react in this manner. Sometimes the obstacles may seem impossible to overcome. They may seem bigger than we can handle. The bigger the problem the more the rewards. I read a story that changed my perspective to the way I view challenges. This story illustrates the opportunities that lies at the heart of every obstacle.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the King’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying on the road where the boulder had been.

The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

Change your Attitude

On the path to success always lies big O’s. Some read them as Obstacles, and others read them as Opportunities.

Off course the peasant in the story had to remove the boulder to clear his way, but in doing so he got rewarded. Going round it is was the easy way out. But, then this would not have solved anything and he would have missed out on the unseen reward. He decided to confront the obstacle head on and got his reward. You, see apart from just the gold that he received he also demonstrated responsibility. Just the act of him removing the boulder benefited more people than just him.

Now, we all know that responsibility is a big part of personal development. It is one of the key areas of personal growth and self improvement.

The other lesson learned from the story is that nature is neutral and it pays you for your efforts. Am very sure that if the king had mentioned about the reward the peasant would not have been the one to receive it as they were other people before him. I guess the peasant’s positive attitude towards problem solving was more at play than anything.

Most of the time we miss out on opportunities that could be life changing, all because of our negative attitude. Usually, the hindrances, presented, are telling us something. If you take time and analyse the problem, if you look at it with a positive mind set, it could be pointing you in the right direction for your much needed solution.

Change your attitude, and start looking at challenges with a more positive mental attitude. Overcoming challenges in life is what constitutes personal development. Whatever problems you are facing right now, there is a lesson that life is trying to teach you and they will not get fixed until you learn that lesson.

Learn from your Current Obstacle (s)

To reach maximum potential one must continuously be learning from life. Everyday is an opportunity to improve our lives. The small things that we do are adding up to our lives. We must make a deliberate habit of learning from our daily challenges. You may not be where you want to be in life. Life may have turned out to be what you did not expect. Well, know that you are not alone, there are people in much more difficult situations than you.

The good news though, is that you have built up a wealth of knowledge from your current situation. Armed with it you can change the course of you life. You have gained valuable experiences that have shown you the results of the choices and decisions you have previously made. If you want to make a positive change, you now know what not to do based on your life’s understandings.

I believe you are more and better equipped than before. The hurdles we face in life merely give us a chance to look at things differently. Sometimes, we are so fixed on one thing and do not look at the other side and then bang, we are faced with an obstacle and realise that there is another way of looking at things. The most important thing is not to lose focus and never give-up when faced with adversities. But, use them as a learning base.

Conclusion

Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity, and are able to turn both to their advantage” – Victor Kiam. The classic story in this article is really an eye opener. It is worth learning from. The story tells many stories and I know that if analysed even further, you will be able to deduce much more from it than I have. You must always try to solve problems than going round them. This is the only way we can help make the world a better place. Standout and always see the opportunity in the obstacles that lie ahead.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Everything that you want to be or achieve in life, begins with what you have. You cannot give what you do not have. “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them” – Henry David Thoreau. The biggest challenge the average person has is starting with what they have. Most of the times we want to wait until we have accumulated a certain amount of money before we invest in an idea; we want to wait until we start earning a certain amount of money before we can start saving. But here is the thing, distractions will always be there. Worse still the opportunity may just pass you by. Yes, you may not succeed at the first attempt. But the experience, you will have gained is very valuable for your next project or idea.

Most people who succeed start with the little they have and grow their resources as they progress. In fact, some of the people that have gone on to be successful started with nothing. If you want to start a business, resources do not necessarily mean finances. Resources could just be the skills you have or even the idea you are harbouring is a resource. One of the biggest resources that is over looked by start-up entrepreneurs’  is the human capital.

Many of the times we always want to justify our fears. We are scared of failure; embarrassment and rejection. Justifying our fears is having a poverty mentality. Yes, I call it justifying, our poverty mentality because this is most common among poor people. I cannot start this business because its time consuming; who says being in business does not require your time? Stop giving excuses and get on with your life.

Just Get Started

The company Nike have a very good motto that I like so much “just do it”.  Stop justifying your poverty mentality and get started with whatever, it is that you want to achieve. Look, before starting this website, I had so many excuses. What will people think about me; I am not sure if I can generate enough writing ideas, were some of the lame excuses I was giving. Well a few years down the line am still writing. This site has over 120 original articles published with an average of about 1000 words per posting. I now, have even discovered more ways to keep generating new ideas. Yes, am aware that for now this site may not be as popular as I would want, but slowly and with time it will achieve the intended goals.

When you start, things begin to fall in place. Your mind begins to direct you in a certain way. By doing what you love everyday, you attract the right resources. It is entirely up you to harness them. It is the beginning that is always difficult, but as you go on you grow in confidence. As you grow in confidence, you grow in stature and this gives you even more confidence. Do not be afraid to change your methods.

With every article I publish my confidence is growing and I believe that even my writing skills are being sharpened. My thinking is much more clearer and my plans for this website are even more refined and clearer. Developing ideas has become even more easier.

Today as I write this article I have more than 20 ideas that need to be actualised. Everyday, I keep adding onto this list. My ideas are ahead of my writing skills and ability. It was not like this, a few years ago when I was starting this website. It was a struggle and even when ideas would pop up writing them was still a challenge. But, over time writing has become more easier.

One Day You Will be Proud

Sometimes it seems not fashionable to start small.  The bible says do not despise the days of your humble beginnings. We only admire business empire’s when they are big. When they become house hold names. Yet, we forget that Rome was not built in one day. These same big corporations that are now flourishing started small. Some of them started in backyards and garages. Alas, the owners are now proud when they sit back and look at how far they have come.

It takes time and hard work to build something worthwhile. Imagine the joy you get when you see something of your creation flourishing. I cannot wait to see this site grow to those levels. Am still very proud of it and proud of my self. For now my job is to continue doing what am currently doing.

Improve on Your Skills Set

Once you start and get going with whatever, you intend to do, make time to improve your skill set. This is important. Devote your time and energy to ensure that you achieve your dreams. If your intention is financial freedom, improve your financial management skills. If it means taking further education just do it. With the advent of the internet and advancement in technology, education today has become more accessible than ever.

Improving your skill set could be the difference to earning more income and moving up the ladder quickly. Now, to improve your skill set does not necessarily mean acquiring formal education. I know that it is important to be formally educated. But you can improve your skill set in many ways. You could find materials such as books, audios and videos on the internet. Currently am reading materials on how to improve my writing skills am not formally enrolled in any college or university.

It is safe for me to say am getting an education. I know for sure that reading more will enhance my writing skills and off course this will have more benefits for my readers. The more sharper my skill set the more quality articles I generate. This obviously translates to enjoying my life even more.

Conclusion

You have within you right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you” – Brian Tracy. Successful people start with what they have. They do not wait for the so called right time. They strike when the iron is still hot. I guess the right time to take your first step is now. You never know what the morrow will bring forth. Remember to “standout and start with what you have”.

Responsibility is a Source of Happiness

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Happiness is not by chance, but by choice” – Jim Rohn. There is a very big relationship between taking more responsibility and being happy. These two thing are intertwined. The more responsible you are the more you enjoy happiness. Being responsible can be a source of great happiness. I have been doing a simple study on people who are seemingly enjoying happiness and have noticed that among the most common factors they share, is that they have taken up more responsibilities in their circles. These are the people who are in the driving seat of their lives.

Following up on this study I decided to take more responsibility, firstly with my own life. Yes, my own life. Most of us are not responsible for our own lives. We live under the shadows of other people. We only want to take responsibility when the right outcomes are achieved, sometimes even for the things that should not even be credited to us. I have seen this type of behaviour especially with our friends in the political world. There is a tendency of wanting to be praised for other peoples efforts.

But also amongst my peers. There is this tendency of only wanting to take credit when things are right, but we do not even want to take full responsibility when our actions are wrong. We always want to blame someone else or give excuses.

Taking Responsibility Puts You in the Drivers Seat

Look, when you take full responsibility for your life, you simply takeover the driving seat. You are in charge. You will accept when things are bad. Being in the driving seat is usually a source of happiness. It gives me joy when a plan comes together. You are happiest when things go according to your plan. If you are in charge you will quickly put up corrective measures when things are drifting away.  “Action may not bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action” – William James.

Taking up responsibility is also an indication of being a good leader. Remember, we are all leaders of our own lives and I believe that at some point you will be made to account for the actions you take in life. The quicker you realise it the better for you.

Personal growth and development is all about taking responsibility for all your actions and not just some. If you want to achieve serious self growth you need to start taking charge of your life. Do not let your mood be determined by other people, they may dampen it. This means taking control of your thoughts, as they are responsible for your emotions; taking control of your emotions as these may lead you to act on impulse. Usually, your predominant thoughts will dictate the state of your mood.

Make a Conscious Decision to be Responsible

The best time to consciously make decisions is in the morning. I have made it a point that every morning before my day gets hectic a decision is made that I will stay focused, be happy and responsible for my actions. Look, no one will make a decision for you unless you approve of it. If you live an unhappy life its your decision; if you are not in charge of your life its your decision. All in all the power to decide is within you. Learn to use it properly.

There is something about doing certain things early in the morning. Your mind just remains focused on them. I usually read through my writing ideas every night before sleeping and every morning when I wake up. Ever since I started this practice, my productivity levels have just been going up. How I wish this had started sometime back. Am writing and publishing articles on a regular basis.

I have taken full responsibility for my actions both positive and negative. On the days that I am not writing I take time to improve my writing skills by reading; researching, listening and watching motivational videos among other things. Yes, sometimes I have to force myself to do these things but I have made it a point that they are done. This is all, is a result of a single decision I make in the morning and that is to be responsible.

Sharing is Caring

They say sharing is caring. Some people find it had to share anything. If they have to share, it is those things that have no meaning and value to them. In other words they share what they call scraps. Well, I guess its human nature but I feel that it is wrong. I read somewhere that all habits are learnable good or bad. This is true. If you can learn bad habits you can also un learn them and replace them with good habits.

There is always something you can share. Sometimes people have lame excuses for not sharing. You will be amazed that the little you think you have some people do not have. I practice an open door policy and have taught my children to always learn to share. I know that sometimes its had, but we must share anyhow. Sharing does not necessarily mean giving out handouts in form of money, it could just be sharing your time to help out someone in need of your skills.

I know that if we all developed and practiced the habit of sharing, the world would be a much much better place. Sharing is also a source of happiness. Let me ask you a question. How do you feel when you see the joy on someone’s face all because you shared something with them? Exactly, that’s why you must share unconditionally more often. When you share do not expect anything back, you are not in control of them. If you expect anything in return more often than not you will be disappointed.

Conclusion

I would like to end by encouraging you to develop the habit of taking responsibility for your life, accept that you are the master of your destiny. Take charge and live a happy life. Learn to also take extra responsibilities and share your gifts with the world. “Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul” – Democritus. Standout tall and be happy.

The Joy of Serving People

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution will ever experience life’s deepest joy; true fulfillment” – Anthony Robbins. We live to serve people. Humanity was created for service. What ever kind of job you do is related to serving people. It may be directly or indirectly interacting with people, but I believe that what ever we do in life is ultimately serving people. If what you do, does not benefit people, it simply means you are robbing the world. Everyday of our lives there is a time when we have to serve someone. No matter what you are or do there comes a time when you have to serve someone. Service that is beneficial to the person being served. People do not realise that there is joy and a lot of satisfaction in being of service.

People remember us by the way we treat them; the way we talk to them. The small things we do and say really matter and count. If you are a parent or a guardian you will agree with me that you take pride and joy when you are being of service to your children or spouse. I always try as much as possible to be of help and make myself available when ever time allows. With the busy schedule I have on my plate I have over the past created some days during the week where I give my family undivided attention. My two children know that they can ask me to play with them and they do not expect any objections. Sometimes my youngest son David will remind me and and say that today is our time with you.

I have noticed that ever since I deliberately created more time for them there is a sense of togetherness. I am beginning to grow more patient with them on so many things. This has helped improve my understanding and enhanced my relationship with my family. I guess this is very important especially that my eldest son Lutangu is getting into his teens. In other words am discovering the other side of me; the patient side of me; the gentle side of me. Because generally I am not a very patient person. Now they look forward to those days. When we are playing games am the one who is usually serving them; am the one who does the dirty work and they get to enjoy seeing me all dirty.

I also serve at church in the traffic department. We are the first people you meet and the last people you see when you come to church on Sundays. It is a tough job especially, on hot and rainy days but the joy and satisfaction you get when serving God’s people is just immeasurable. People will always appreciate the service you render to them no matter what. Even if they don’t thank you immediately they will at some point thank you. All you have to do is to just continue doing what is right. It is such a joy when you find people thanking you for your service. That is why it is always important to say thank you when you are being served, it simply encourages the one providing the service to even do more.

There is Growth from Service

Apart from just the joy you get from serving, there is also personal growth. We are all called to serve. The world needs more people to serve. If you are not deliberately serving people, I encourage you to take time to find something that you can do to serve others. It could be at your work place. Be the one that helps out a colleague; be the one who is more dependable in a certain area. Not just helping your boss but also help your peers. The more you practice to help the more you grow and the more you get satisfaction and derive happiness. The bible says “it is more blessed to give than to receive“. The rewards of serving are immense.

I developed this website not only to share my personal experience but to be of service to people. The articles I write are mainly personal experiences through which I hope that someone is being encouraged and challenged. Over the years I have also enjoyed personal growth because of my own articles. I do a lot of reading and research. As a result I am learning everyday of my life. I can only thank God for the ideas and opportunity he has given me to develop this website. I  believe that am still very much a work in progress. There are many many areas of my life that need to be worked on and slowly but surely they are being turned around.

Conclusion

Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods” – Plato. Through service of people lives can be changed and transformed. As we serve and grow we should, endeavour to reach out to the world at large. I believe that serving people is also one way to unlocking our full potential. One can realise their potential by being of service to people. Again I would like to encourage you to find something that you can do that can be of service to the community around you. Start small and slowly reach out to a larger audience.  Take joy in serving people. Remember to “standout tall and be counted”.
