The Joy of Serving People

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution will ever experience life’s deepest joy; true fulfillment” – Anthony Robbins. We live to serve people. Humanity was created for service. What ever kind of job you do is related to serving people. It may be directly or indirectly interacting with people, but I believe that what ever we do in life is ultimately serving people. If what you do, does not benefit people, it simply means you are robbing the world. Everyday of our lives there is a time when we have to serve someone. No matter what you are or do there comes a time when you have to serve someone. Service that is beneficial to the person being served. People do not realise that there is joy and a lot of satisfaction in being of service.

People remember us by the way we treat them; the way we talk to them. The small things we do and say really matter and count. If you are a parent or a guardian you will agree with me that you take pride and joy when you are being of service to your children or spouse. I always try as much as possible to be of help and make myself available when ever time allows. With the busy schedule I have on my plate I have over the past created some days during the week where I give my family undivided attention. My two children know that they can ask me to play with them and they do not expect any objections. Sometimes my youngest son David will remind me and and say that today is our time with you.

I have noticed that ever since I deliberately created more time for them there is a sense of togetherness. I am beginning to grow more patient with them on so many things. This has helped improve my understanding and enhanced my relationship with my family. I guess this is very important especially that my eldest son Lutangu is getting into his teens. In other words am discovering the other side of me; the patient side of me; the gentle side of me. Because generally I am not a very patient person. Now they look forward to those days. When we are playing games am the one who is usually serving them; am the one who does the dirty work and they get to enjoy seeing me all dirty.

I also serve at church in the traffic department. We are the first people you meet and the last people you see when you come to church on Sundays. It is a tough job especially, on hot and rainy days but the joy and satisfaction you get when serving God’s people is just immeasurable. People will always appreciate the service you render to them no matter what. Even if they don’t thank you immediately they will at some point thank you. All you have to do is to just continue doing what is right. It is such a joy when you find people thanking you for your service. That is why it is always important to say thank you when you are being served, it simply encourages the one providing the service to even do more.

There is Growth from Service

Apart from just the joy you get from serving, there is also personal growth. We are all called to serve. The world needs more people to serve. If you are not deliberately serving people, I encourage you to take time to find something that you can do to serve others. It could be at your work place. Be the one that helps out a colleague; be the one who is more dependable in a certain area. Not just helping your boss but also help your peers. The more you practice to help the more you grow and the more you get satisfaction and derive happiness. The bible says “it is more blessed to give than to receive“. The rewards of serving are immense.

I developed this website not only to share my personal experience but to be of service to people. The articles I write are mainly personal experiences through which I hope that someone is being encouraged and challenged. Over the years I have also enjoyed personal growth because of my own articles. I do a lot of reading and research. As a result I am learning everyday of my life. I can only thank God for the ideas and opportunity he has given me to develop this website. I  believe that am still very much a work in progress. There are many many areas of my life that need to be worked on and slowly but surely they are being turned around.

Conclusion

Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods” – Plato. Through service of people lives can be changed and transformed. As we serve and grow we should, endeavour to reach out to the world at large. I believe that serving people is also one way to unlocking our full potential. One can realise their potential by being of service to people. Again I would like to encourage you to find something that you can do that can be of service to the community around you. Start small and slowly reach out to a larger audience.  Take joy in serving people. Remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

You Cannot Change the Past

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that is why they call it present”- Unknown origins. You cannot do anything to change your past neither can you delete it. But you can do something with the present to help shape your future. Look, we all have closets and in those closets are skeletons. I mean, “Some of those skeletons would even refuse to be shown to people”. Well, if you do not have skeletons, with time you will surely have them. Whether you want to share them with the world is entirely up to you. Simply put, there is no one with a perfect past.

Even the most successful and humblest of people have skeletons in their closets. I have done somethings in the past that am not proud of. Really, some of the stuff I did, if I could go back in time, equipped with the knowledge I have acquired, I would change them. Unfortunately I can’t neither can you. I am here and doing what am doing mostly because of my past.

Your past experience helped to shape your present. You therefore, need to learn to live and appreciate your past, good or bad. What we should be preoccupied with is trying our level best to lay a better foundation for the future.

You cannot make progress by dwelling on your past. The past is history. Its gone, let go of it. You cannot continue crying over spilt milk. You can only embrace and accept the past. Learn from it and move on. I believe that there are lessons we can take from our past, that can be taken into the future. Growth demands that we learn from the mistakes we made and from the people around us. Human beings tend to be more wiser as they grow older. They say experience is the greatest teacher. If you cannot learn from your past experiences, well then you must be un trainable. But I believe that all human beings are trainable.

The Importance of Learning from Your Past

You cannot expect different results if you keep on doing the same things over and over. You cannot expect to succeed if there is nothing you are doing about it. If you believe that practice makes perfect; you need to change your belief system. I grew up believing that practice makes perfect until, I learned that practice makes room for improvement which leads to improved results. Learning from the past is what gives us wisdom. It is what makes us grow. Sometimes am left wondering what is wrong with our current generation. We want to start climbing the tree of success from the top. We want to experience success without going through the mill.

When things go wrong do not go with them. You will agree with me that wisdom comes with experience and experience comes with age. Every little positive change that you make in life is important. It takes you closer to your goals. We must realise that change is not sudden and is not easy. Just because you made a mistake at your last job and got fired does not mean you must give up. Get up and accept your mistakes and take responsibility for them. Learn from them and stop blaming your boss for having you fired, he was merely doing his job. I know its not easy when you lose a job especially in the current economic situations. But I believe that God allows such things to happen so as to position you for better things to come.

Learning from our past experiences cannot be over emphasised. It is of paramount importance that we all learn from our past experiences. It all begins by first knowing ourselves better. Over the last few years I have become an ardent student of my self. You heard me right a student of myself. You will be amazed to learn that most of us do not know ourselves very well. The fact that I now understand my self better than before is very helpful in my everyday life. I know when to do things more efficiently and what conditions I will thrive in at any particular time. I have learnt over time what sort of music will motivate me to write articles and will influence my working mood. All this has come by seriously paying attention to my self.

Live Life in the Present

Well, it is good to reminiscence about the past. But, this should not be your preoccupation because no matter how good your past was it is but history. Yes, it was good while it lasted. Life dictates that we move forward. If you are not moving forward then you are moving backwards. Life is never static. Charles Haanel in his book the Master Key says “Opportunity follows perception, action follows inspiration, growth follows knowledge, eminence flows progress.” My understanding of this is that if your life is not moving forward or rather if you are not taking action, opportunity will surely pass you by. There comes a time in ones life when things seem be impossible. That is when we are required to show our strength and tenacity.

I have a very good friend of mine, I wont mention his name for now. Actually his my childhood friend. This is a very intelligent and brilliant guy but has failed to progress because he still lives in the past. He has literally failed to move on in life. Every time we meet our discussions are mostly centred on the past and he never seems to focus on the future. This is a guy that has gone from being one of the most promising talents in his field to being one of the most an reliable employee. All this simply because of not accepting his previous mistakes and learning from them, and as a result opportunities have passed him by because he still lives in his past glory.

What am trying to say is that we must learn to live in the present. Enjoy today. Remember today is called present. It is your present from God Almighty. Make sure you do the right things. Do not take things for granted. Take every opportunity that comes your way with both hands and live your life.

Conclusion

I would like to leave you with one of my favourite prayers “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer. For me this prayer summarises what we need to do in life. It recognises the fact that we cannot change the past and that a bright future belongs to the courageous. Have a wonderful and successful live and always remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

Life is Like a Seed that Needs to be Nurtured

Motivational Quotes

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but, by the seeds you plant” – Robert Louis Stevenson. Our attitude about the future depends on our ability to see the future. Each of us has the inherent ability to dream, design, and experience the future through our hopeful imagination. Whatever the mind has the capacity to imagine, it also has the ability to create. All human beings carry a seed to create. They say all growth is from within. You see we all carry the seed to succeed and grow in whatever we put our mind on. In other words life is like a seed. If you look around, you will realise that there is nothing that was not created. Believe it or not, everything you see was first conceived as a seed.

The question you might be asking is if we all carry the seed of success why is it that only a few people are successful? Well the biggest challenge with most of us is that we let the seed go to waste. We do not take good care of it. You see for any seed to grow, it must be nurtured and nourished. This is the process that we do not want to undertake. Nurturing and nourishing a seed takes a lot of time, discipline and is hard work.

Recently I started a small backyard garden. I have been growing plants from seeds. It has taken me close to 3 months to grow pepper, from seed to now almost harvest time. I have not yet harvested it and anything could go wrong before then. So not until we have enjoyed the first harvest, we have not yet enjoyed the benefits of our labour.

I believe that life is like a tree. It starts as a seed and grows into a tree. Any seed has the potential to grow into a tree. However, whether the seed will grow into a tree and produce good fruit or not will depend on the quality of the nutrients. See for any seed to sprout and grow it needs dirt or better still soil otherwise if left open the sun will burn it. Now soil contains nutrients that are necessary for the growth of the seed. I believe it takes a lot of energy for the small seed to push it’s self up from under ground to the surface. And better still it has to adapt to the different weather patterns and conditions to grow and start bearing good fruit.

Nurture and Nourish that Seed

Whatever that you want to do in life is like a seed. If you want to be successful at whatever, you need to understand that it takes hard and smart work to achieve it. Look, “somewhere in the Kafue National Park every morning arises an impala that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Lion or it will be eaten and die that day, in the same National Park arises a Lion that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Impala or it will starve and die that day”. The moral of the story is that no matter what you do in life you have to run.

No matter who you are you have to run. The running symbolises the work that you have to do on a daily basis. If you’ve had the opportunity to watch national geographics and observed how both the Impala and the Lion run. You will realise that they do not just run in a straight line.

Life will throw things at you. It is therefore, important that you learn how to meander throw those obstacles. Believe me learning to meander through life is not easy. We are constantly learning and adapting to life on a daily basis. If you are not changing with time then, you are not improving and are most likely to remain behind. It could be the reason why you have stagnated in life.

The dirt or soil symbolises the hard work. This is the hardest part. To make the soil more fertile and conducive for the seed, takes learning and discipline. This helps you build character. Now that you have character with time and endurance you will have nurtured and nourished your ideas and will give birth to your plans or project. Before you know it you will be reaping the fruits of your labour. The hardest part however, is the nurturing and nourishing part. I believe that every good thing takes time. Most of us do not want to endure the soil. We do not want the dirt being thrown at us. We want to skip from seed to fruit.

Allow God to Be at the Centre of Your Plans

The bible says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29. This is huge for me. To me it is clear that what ever plans we have before we implement them we must put them before God. Ultimately the Lord knows what he has planned for us. It is therefore, imperative that we conform with the plans of the lord for our lives. Allowing God to lead is just wonderful. Yes sometimes we miss it and get off target and yes sometimes things do not go as we want them. The bigger picture is that God knows what is best for our us. Am human just like you and sometimes I question God when things are not going as I expect them.

The comforting thing is that God always makes a way where there seems to be no way. Allow me to say that God is a teacher and accepts anyone as they are. The beauty with following God is that it is at your own free will. I have made mistakes and some of the things am not proud of. But I know that he accepts me just the way I am.

Conclusion

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” – Proverbs. Do not let those plans; those seeds that you have go to waste. You have a duty or rather a responsibility to ensure that you do not deprive the world of them. Lastly we should should learn to give thanks and praise to the Lord because he gives us the opportunity to live and go on with our lives. Thank you and remember to standout tall and be counted.

To change is to be progressive

Motivational Quotes

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer. Change comes from within. To ignore change is to accept defeat. Successful people are those who embrace change. Without change there is no meaningful success. I guess change is an agent of success. Before success, comes change. If you intend to succeed at anything you are involved with, you cannot expect to achieve different results if you are doing the same thing’s that make you fail. One of the biggest stumbling block to achieving our goals, be it personal; organisational and indeed financial, is a luck of change in our attitude. John F. Kennedy once said “change is the law of life and those who look only to the past and the present are certain to miss the future”.

I personally have failed before, actually many times and I keep failing on a daily basis. One of my latest shortcomings is not being able to fulfill the challenge to publish 29 articles in the month of February as promised. Have I given up on the challenge? No. The shortfall taught me to set reasonable and achievable targets. It was a worthwhile target but, one that needed a lot of time and dedication to implement. However, I reserve it for the future. I now know what adjustments are needed to make, for a challenge of that magnitude and nature.

Learn from every challenge

There are many lessons I took from the previous challenge. However, I will mention just a few here. The biggest one being that I needed a lot of time and dedication. But during the implementation period I was faced with a lot of time constraints. I could not devote enough of my time to writing articles, as there were other more pressing matters to be attended to. This is not to negate the importance I attach to this website. In fact the plan for this website is to grow it to be the number one stop for personal development and growth materials. It is more of a long term than short term project. However, the other matters were short term and more of a physical nature and they really drained my energy.

I needed to come up with a practical way of article writing, regularly or better still on a daily basis. Unfortunately I stayed in my comfort zone. I now need to move out of my comfort zone if I have to fulfill the vision and plan for this website. It is also my plan to write and post articles that I feel add value to my readers. In other words I write content for people not for the search engines. With the lessons learned this far I hope to begin to show that movement out of my comfort zone. I now know without a shadow doubt that I do not expect to achieve my goals without a radical change.

The other lesson learned is that I lost my focus. They were times that I could have written something but lacked total concentration. To write valuable content you need to be relaxed and focused and let your thoughts flow on paper. My friends who are artists will agree with me that you need to be focused and inspired when write a song later alone sing it.

You have the capacity to change

Do not doubt your ability to change. We all have the capacity and ability to change. If you want to achieve anything, you will need to change and adapt your ways and mentality to winning ways. I believe that there is no short cut to achieving our dreams. Hard work or rather smart work is the key. The bible says “do not despise the days of your small beginnings” – Zechariah 4:10. A journey of a 1000 miles starts with one step in the right direction. Emphasis is the first step. The first step is as important as the last step.

You will not move a mile if you do not take the first step. Every step that you take counts towards your goal. Every small change that you make is important. You have the capacity to make those small adjustments and before you know it you will have made bigger adjustments.

Any change that you make is progressive. Every one of us can be progressive by changing one thing at a time, no matter how small. I know for a fact that all of us have things we want to change. There is no perfect individual on this earth. One of the many mistakes we make is wanting to succeed without changing our ways. I find this totally impossible. I believe that success comes with change.

How do we prepare for the future

There are many factors that should be considered when preparing for our future. Some of them are beyond our control. However, we must always endeavour to change those things that are in our control. Brian Tracy says “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you”. I believe that we all have a chance at succeeding. I also believe that life gives each and everyone of us a second chance.

A lot of things that will help shape our future are within our own grasp. Most of us miss the opportunity to help shape our own future through foolish decision and end up making mistakes that come to haunt us. I know that sometimes the mistakes we make can be very fatal. But, remember that we all make mistakes and the most successful people have learnt from their own mistakes.

The most important ingredient to success is to make the change and stop making the same mistakes over and over. Decide today to make the change and start moving towards a better life. It is never too late to make the change. Start by accepting that you are responsible for your own life. Acknowledge that you owe it to yourself to live a better life. Stop blaming your parents for what they never gave you; your government for the limited opportunities; your siblings for not sharing or indeed your spouse. You are totally responsible for everything that you do. Go out there and conquer the world.

I strongly believe that there is more than enough wealth in the world to go round. If we all played our part we could help change the world for the better. The world today is short of so many things. You are the solution to some of the challenges being faced. Dig deep within you and unleash that solution that the world is so craving for. Dr. Myles Monroe says “the richest place on earth is the grave yard”. Because buried there, are dreams and ideas that were never realised.

Conclusion

If we don’t change we don’t grow, if we don’t grow we aren’t really living” – Gail Sheehy. In order for us to make meaningful achievements we must set goals. As a human being you should have your own personal development goals; relationship goals; financial goals and above all spiritual goals. We must never forget that God loves us all regardless of our ethnicity and what our past holds. As I conclude and in view of the current outbreak of the COVID-19, I encourage you to keep our medical personnel and leaders in prayers. We can also play a very important part by staying at home and keeping a social distance. Let us all standout and be counted in the fight against this pandemic. GOD BLESS.

You don’t grow when things are going easy

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity” – Albeit Einstein. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in the moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenges and controversy” – Martin Luther King Jr. As human beings, we have a natural tendency to wanting to do the easier things in life. I guess this is how we are wired. However, you will realise that if you want to grow and succeed, as an individual, you better get used to doing the heavy stuff as well. Doing the things that you are not used to. The things that you like to postpone. The things that make you uncomfortable are the things that really help you grow. Not all things are easy the first time. But with practice and perseverance, they become easier, lighter and enjoyable.

There is usually no growth in times of good. In times of plenty, we normally concentrate on enjoying the rewards. However, life demands that we constantly grow in everything that we do. This month I have dedicated to write and post 29 articles. I am already behind. Not that I want to give excuses but this is the reality of it. Writing on a daily basis is an unfamiliar territory for me. I have had a few other personal challenges that have hindered my progress but to talk about them would be like to give excuses. I would rather pick it up from here and see how far I can go. I guess it will be worthwhile to review and measure my performance at the end of the challenge. I take full responsibility for it.

They say all growth comes from within. The ability to grow is implanted within each and every one of us. If you really want to grow, be it financial growth or personal development you need to start nurturing the seed of growth within you. Personal development and growth are like a mustard seed. You plant a small seed, with care and nurturing, it grows into a tree. All things take time but, better things take even longer to produce.  They say good wine takes time to mature. The longer it takes the better the quality. Likewise, if you are working on a good project, you should not expect immediate results. You will need to overcome failure and many other obstacles before you see the fruits of your labour. Most of the times there is a thin line between success and failure. Most people give up just before they strike gold.

Endurance is key

Without perseverance and endurance, there is no success. Without endurance, there is no real growth. If there is a formula for personal growth I would say, “hard or smart work + persistence + endurance = success”. Let’s take a college student, for them to get good grades, they have to work hard or smart and endure the long hours of sleepless nights of studying. When I was studying computer programming I would study into the wee hours of the night before going to bed. As a student, I had to endure the sleepless nights and persistently pursued my studies. Without which I would not have graduated.

I guess endurance is a measure of how much we are willing to go, in order to achieve certain objectives. I believe that all great inventors had to endure and conquered failure many times. Without endurance, we would not have achieved even the little that has been accomplished. You may not realise it but you have made certain sacrifices and have come out strong, it could be positive or negative we all have experienced endurance.

How motivated are you?

What contribution are you giving to humanity? Are you spending 8 hours a day doing something that does not inspire you? Are you just doing time? What will you leave because you came on earth? These few questions keep me motivated to continue writing and pursuing my life’s purpose. I believe that the most important day in one’s life is when they realise what their purpose is. When they realise why they wake up in the morning and do what they need to do on a daily basis. There is a saying that the moment you are born the body begins to prepare for death. When you were born they dug your grave and put the dirt on the right side. When you die they will put the dirt on the left side.

Unfortunately, the reality of life is that many of us will not be remembered after some time. And many of us will not even be known that we ever lived on this earth. I believe that one day we will be made to account for the time we spent on this beautiful planet. We, therefore, must make good of it. But to achieve this we must do things that keep motivating us to achieve our life’s purposes. That is why it is important to do things that make you happy on a daily basis. One of the best ways to be happy is to earn a living doing the things that make you happy.

Conclusion

Personal growth and development are usually achieved when we are going through challenges. They call them trying moments, meaning they are not permanent. “How you respond to the challenge in the second half will determine what you become after the game, whether you are a winner or a loser” – Lou Holtz.

Get set, ready, steady go. The challenge starts today. The die is cast. There is no turning back. This is the beginning of the month-long article posting challenge. In my previous post, I made a public declaration and challenged myself to a daily article posting challenge for the month of February. Well, the month is right upon us. This is the first post for the challenge. At the end of this month, we should have a minimum of 29 articles of good value. The month has already started with challenges for me and I need to quickly learn how to navigate through them without disturbing my 29 Days challenge. I know that I will face a lot of them, but what will determine my success are the learning points that I will take from them.

I am not looking back but pressing ahead and see how far this challenge will take me. The beauty of it is that at the end of February  I will have moved a step closer to achieving my objective of improving my writing skills and contributing to humanity. I believe that when something is written it is indelible. Usually, we write what we believe in or what we want to say. Most of the time we convey our feelings and thoughts through writing.  The major difference between speaking and writing is the ease of reference. It is much easier to refer to written speeches. Written messages are never forgotten. Today we continue to make reference to the many quotes because they were written down.

Here are some of the key objectives of the 29 Day Challenge.

Increase content on the site

Increasing site content is a no brainer. Remember that I pledged to increase content on this site. The more articles that are posted on any site will, of course, add to the existing site content and hence increase the overall content. This is a basic SEO rule. The search engines love new content. This has the potential to greatly improve the site rankings by the search engines and therefore, increase search engine traffic to the website.

I believe that search engine traffic is the best because users reach your site through what they are searching for. They are more specific. Increased traffic means increased visibility and access to a wider audience. My hope is to reach as many people as possible. Through this am hoping to get more referral links pointing to this site. More backlinks mean more improved search engine rankings. This can only be good news for me.

Improve visitor satisfaction

Visitor satisfaction will come with the quality of the content being generated. Although visitor satisfaction will not only depend on content quality, there are many other factors that will ensure it is achieved. Some of them may beyond my control. However, I will endeavour to change those things that are within my power. I am also very much aware that you cannot please every visitor. But, I will try as much as possible to make the site user-friendly and work with more reliable and faster hosting service providers.

Improve my writing skills

They say practice makes perfect. I believe that even before I undertake this challenge, my writing skills are improving with every article I write. I can only assume that there will be a great improvement at the end of the challenge. I know that there is a lot of room for improving my writing skills. I can assure you that am constantly working to improving them on a regular basis. The better and more easily my articles are the more user satisfaction is generated.

Improve writing inspiration

Those of my friends who are artists and bloggers will understand what am saying when I say that you need the inspiration to write. It is not easy to just wake up and start writing. You need to have some kind of inspiration to put your thoughts on paper and worse still put them in a meaningful way. A musician always needs the inspiration to write and sing songs. The inspiration may come through real-life experiences and many other sources. One of the most killers of not putting down our thoughts is differing them to another time. I have learned over the years that when you feel inspired to write, don’t postpone to a later time, your thoughts will have disappeared by then. Just sit down and get going with it. Your thoughts will flow on paper. Usually, the idea is not even as clear at the beginning but as you delve into it you simply flow with it.

Conclusion

As we undertake this journey together I also challenge you to do something you have never done before. It could be exercising on a daily basis for a period of time. You could also challenge yourself to get rid of an old bad habit. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it adds more value to yourself and the world at large. I believe that we will be made to account for how we spend our time on this earth.

If you are reading this article, today is the first day of the rest of your life, and you have every reason to be grateful for it. Thank God for the gift of your life. You are alive for a reason. I believe that life has always given us an opportunity for a second chance. You may not currently be in a position to afford a good life. A life that you desire. You may have messed up or have let an opportunity pass you by. Yes, life may seem to be unbearable and unfair; the doctors may have given you a bad report on your health but, that’s not the end of the world. Thank God you are still alive. Let me assure you, that for as long as you have the breadth of life in you; as long as you are alive;  you definitely have an opportunity to overcome your current challenges. Never give up because it is never too late for you to achieve your dreams. Yes, some people may seem to be far ahead of you, but always remember that you have your own life to live; and who says you should live your life based on other people’s progress?

Most of us have had a very bumpy life. Sometimes due to our own making and at times due to circumstances beyond our control. I believe that most of the circumstances we go through in life are of our own making. Meaning we have the power to change them. Most of us have given up on making progress with our lives. We have become accustomed and have accepted to living a mediocre life. When we fall down we must learn to pick ourselves up. Many of the times we will have very few people around when we have fallen down. It is at these times when we should summon all our strength and courage to stand up and keep moving. The God who has given us life also provides us with the strength and direction of our lives.

As human beings, we must embrace and be thankful that we are always given a second chance at life. Though we fall, when we have the courage to get up, God gives us more life and grace so that we can achieve our goals. Yes, I know that there are opportunities that come once in a lifetime. Some of these may not be the best ones for us. Never give up just know that God’s timing is the best. We should all bear in mind that the greatest glory of living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall. Those that have succeeded have failed before. The great inventors of this world have failed many times before they succeeded and today who remembers their failures?

Have a never give up mentality

I love football and sports in general. Sportsmen and women who succeed have a never give up mentality. Sportsmen and women are impressive; the hours and days they put in training for them to show their skill only for a short period of time is amazing. Not only to show their skills but also win to matches, is out of this world. I recently watched a football match were the team I support was written off even before the beginning of the match. The only consolation I had as a supporter was that we are going to have a good game of football. But as the players entered the pitch you could see the positive mindset they were carrying. They just looked like they had already won the match. You see they had lost the first match and needed to win this one by an “impossible” scoreline against one of the very best teams. When my team scored the first goal I believed that the impossible would be possible. Well, the rest is history.

The never give up mentality should be adopted at all times. Those who never give up even in the times of adversity are bound to succeed. When you are given a second chance, embrace it with all your might and ensure that you make the best of every opportunity. Don’t be discouraged when you fail, because you have just discovered one way of not making it. I have set a one month challenge; beginning 1st February I will be posting an article every day until the month-end. This is a huge challenge for me, as I have never done this before. But I pray that God will give me a never give up mentality. A mentality to press on until I achieve the goal. I will evaluate my progress at the end of the challenge and share the experience. I am looking forward to it.

I believe that challenging our abilities is one of the best ways to ensuring and enhancing personal development and growth. I think life would be very boring without challenges. I am now developing a mentality of constantly challenging my abilities.

Enjoy your life

Learn to live a happy life. Decide to be happy every morning you wake up. Did you know that happiness is the highest level of success? One of the best ways of enjoying life is doing the things you enjoy most of the time. There is no point in living a life of grumbling every day. “Life is too short to be lived with hate and sadness” – said Nelson Mandela when he was released from prison after 27 years. He had no choice but to forgive his oppressors because he did not want to continue being their prisoner by carrying hatred in his heart. He wanted to enjoy total freedom for the rest of his life. If you are carrying hate, unforgiveness, and anger you are not free; you are a prisoner. Free yourself and begin to enjoy your life.

Happiness also comes through giving. I have great joy when I give and see the joy on the other person. I used to wonder why the bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive. I mean, after all, we all want to be on the receiving end especially good gifts. but I have learned that as a parent we are always happy to see our children enjoying the fruits of our labour. I don’t know about you but the joy I get when I have provided a solution for someone and they walk away happy is just mind-blowing. Giving may not necessarily be in monetary form. It could just be a helping hand. It could be your time or just being good to someone. There is so much we could do for the world that will put a smile on many people. Imagine living in a world full of happy people.

Conclusion

Life is only what we choose to make it. With every choice you make, you create your life. God is such a gracious father he is a God of second chances. We must learn to embrace the opportunities and chances that come our way. Many a time we will fail, but we must never give up. We must remain steadfast and focused. We must embrace failure and learn from it; we must never be defeated by it. Remember that life is built of the things we do. The small things we do every day. “In the end, it is not the years in your life that count. Its the life in your years” – Abraham Lincoln.

Nothing is perfect the first time

Motivational Quotes

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

There is nothing that was created or invented by man that was perfected the first time. Everything that we do or have done is never perfect the first time. All the nice buildings and all the beautiful things that are man-made were not perfect at the first attempt. A lot of planning, research, rebuilding and hard work had to be undertaken. That is why there is a constant quest for improvement of the gadgets that we use daily. The gadgets that were more valuable in the last 5 or 10 years may now be obsolete. This is the same as in the journey of life and in the pursuit of personal development and self-improvement, one must always strive to continuously seek to improve themselves. They say practice makes perfect. Nature requires and usually compels us to move on. However, we decide the direction of that movement. If you look back at your life five years ago, you will agree that there is a change and the direction of that change was sorely influenced by yourself. You are the driver of that change.

Nothing is perfect if things were perfect there would be no need for continuous improvement. There would be no need for research and development. However, nature is perfect and nature is neutral. We get from nature what we give it. If you are optimistic nature gives you back optimism; if you are positive you get exactly that; if you are expectant you will meet with expectation. In other words, you get your hearts desires. The Bible says “ask and you shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened”.

I don’t know about you, but I know that am still very much a work in progress. Am far from being a perfect role model and forgive me if at all, I present myself as perfect, it is not my intention. Every day comes with its challenges and I am continuously learning new things. I keep an open mind and have learned to focus on the positive things in life. I am always grateful to God almighty for allowing me to serve him daily. Every day that we are alive is a gift and an opportunity to make a difference. Yes, life will give you what you did not anticipate, but you have the right to make a choice. You may not know it but some people are worse off than you are right now. There are people you can help even in your current situation.

Continue to doing something to change your current situation

A successful individual typically sets his next goal somewhat, but not too much above his last achievement. In this way, he steadily raises his level of aspiration” – Kurt Lewin. Success does not come to those who wait for it; neither does it come to those who are lazy. If you want to achieve your life’s intended purpose you must work towards achieving them. The important thing is to get started and work daily. Do something daily that helps you move closer to achieving your desired life’s purpose. slowly but surely you will meet with success as you continue to improve on your daily activities.

The trouble is many of us want to be financially independent yet are not willing to work hard and smart to achieve our dreams. We instead complain about how hard life is and how things are not going well for us. We expect life to be easy and yet are not willing to pay the price now for a better future. Remember that nature is neutral and it gives you back what you give it. If you want to achieve financial freedom, you should be willing to pay the price for it. Everything that you want to achieve has a price tag. Nature will pay you back the exact price that you are willing to pay.

Over the years I have learned that the key to achieving your desired life’s goals is to firstly realise, that no one is responsible for your current situation but yourself, in other words, you must take responsibility of your situation. Acknowledge that you are mostly responsible for being in the current situation and secondly do something to change it, because if you don’t, no one is going to change it for you. Yes, it may be tough but it can be done. The Bible says “do not despise the days of your humble beginnings”. To succeed you need to start small and be persistent. Be prepared to fail the first time and learn from your mistakes. Keep on improving. Refuse to accept failure. They say “Rome was not built in one day” but neither was it built in two days. The small things that you do daily count towards achieving your goals. Yes, life will throw things at you, but do not be discouraged, there is always something to be learned from the difficult situations. Remember that God always provides a way where there seems to be no way. There is nothing too big or too small for God. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.

I know that sometimes we may feel that things are not going accordingly. That is the time to double your efforts because after every storm the sea is calm. The Bible says “weeping may stay for the night but rejoicing comes in the morning”. Life is full of ups and downs. If you have been following my blog for some time you will notice that my earlier articles were not as refined as the current ones. I would confidently say that there is a great improvement in both the content and quality of the articles. The improvement did not come without a cost. I had to put in the time. This, however, does not mean that my articles are perfect, but they have improved over time. Although I know that there is always room for improvement. As such am always seeking to make the necessary changes. My dream is for this website to be the number one destination for personal development and self-development materials and articles.

We are responsible for the state of our communities

If you believe that you are responsible for being in your current situation then it is also true that you are directly or indirectly responsible for the current state of your society or country at large. I know this may sound ridiculous but I think it is the truth. Whether we like it or not we have a part to play in developing and shaping the direction our societies and countries at large. We may be complaining about the poor service delivery of the various government departments. But if we wait for help from the government it may never come and it surely takes a very long time before it comes. Why can we not do something about it ourselves? After all, we are the ones that are greatly affected. We can contribute to society in so many ways. There are many avenues out there that can be used to help improve society. If we are to see meaningful change, we must be the change carriers. Change begins with you and me, changing our ways and influencing other people.

For example, we could start by restoring our families. I know that many of us our families are hurting and broken. I believe that at the foundation of every prosperous society is a strong family bond. If you are a parent and have neglected your family it is high time you started taking responsibility for your family. Your children need you more than ever before. Do not be an absentee parent. You may be going through a bad patch in your life but that is no reason to abandon them. It is time to show them how responsible you are. It is the time to reassure them and let them stand with you. There is nothing more satisfying than spending time with your loved ones.  There are many broken homes out there and this has resulted in broken societies.

Be patient with yourself

To grow we must learn to be patient with ourselves. Growth is not instant but gradual. I always say that all growth is from within. That is why we are all born babies and grow to adulthood with time. There is a time for everything. A time to play, a time to study and a time to grow. We start but crawling before we stand and start to walk. We learn or acquire skills before we start using them. God has given us time to learn and prepare ourselves for the challenges that lie ahead. God has also equipped us with the necessary requisites to cope with life’s challenges. Be patient and allow yourself to enjoy what you are doing. Remember that not everything you are doing now will have instant results. You do certain tasks for future results. You acquire certain skills and knowledge that will come in handy in the future.

Conclusion

Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose your ability to learn new things and move forward in your life” – Dr. David M. Burns. With time and effort, you will achieve your desired results. Always remember that perfection is not achieved at the first go. It takes time, patience, persistence and dedication to achieve it. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

Your values make the person you are

Motivational Quotes

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

Life is lived from the inside out. At the very core of your personality are your values. What you become or what you are, is largely dictated by the values that you hold strong. If your values are love, kindness, honesty, positivity and sincerity that is what will often be shown in your life. Our outward life is merely a reflection of our inner core values. The Bible says “you shall know them by their fruits”. Our values are our fruits. We all live life by our values, be it wrong or right and sometimes knowingly or unknowingly. Human beings are mostly directed by the values they hold. We are daily displaying what we value by the way we live our lives. The life you are living today is a direct reflection of your inner values. Notice that most successful people have a positive outlook about themselves. They harbour positive values within their inner being.

It is, therefore, very important that if we are to succeed at whatever we are doing we must learn to feed our minds and inner souls with the right material. If you feed on negative emotions you are most likely going to produce negative emotions and the opposite is equally true. In short, your character is a sum total of what you feed on. The good thing with our mind is that it can be transformed. If you want a transformation of your mind, feed it with the right material. The bible says “you shall be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. The only way I know of renewing your mind is by reading and learning. Look, whatever you read sticks in your mind and someday it will come out. If you read wrong books your mind will be transformed by them. One of the books I read on a daily basis is the Bible. It is full of positive affirmations. The Bible is actually my life’s guide.

You have to make a deliberate policy and have the will to change. Our daily actions are controlled, consciously or unconsciously by our thoughts. You may not have noticed it but believe me, your thinking has a direct bearing on your character and general behaviour. What you hold dear to your heart will always manifest. I always like to give the example of thieves, do you realise that no one is born a thief. People just learn to thieve and since it can be learned it can also be unlearned. Nature provides us all with equal opportunities. For example, we all have 24hrs a day, 12 months a year. The biggest difference is the way we seize the opportunities that come our way. Sometimes opportunities can be disguised as a “disaster” say, loss of employment. Most of the times when one loses employment they moan and groan about it without realising that it could be an opportunity that has just presented itself to be self-employed or even look for better employment.

Improve your values

Like I said before our values can be learned and unlearned. The question is how can we unlearn the bad values that have accumulated over a period of time. Over the past months, I have been focussing on changing some of my values by reading, listening and watching motivational materials and attending personal transformation seminars. This has seen me change my internal values tremendously. To this day some of the things I thought of being valuable are actually of negative value. When you change your values and focus on building positive ones it gives you a sense of purpose and you feel in control of your life. Most of us are not in full control of our lives and hence just flow with the wind. Hence the frustration with life.

A positive mindset has the ability to create a sense of responsibility and enables you to enjoy your life much much better. You have less pressure and you do not panic when things go wrong. Believe me, things will always go wrong and sometimes very messy. The most important thing is the way you react to them. Do you let the situation overtake you or do you take control of the situation? Most of the things that go wrong are actually within our control. I believe that everything that happens to us, happens for a reason and mostly it is just an opportunity for us to provide a solution differently. However, this entails thinking outside the box. In fact, removing the box altogether. I always like to think of life as a journey. When faced with a challenge do I go back or face the challenge head-on. I focus on facing the challenge head-on. There is always a solution to every challenge that comes your way. Remember that God always makes a way where they seem to be no way. The Bible says “seek ye first the kingdom of God and everything shall be added on to you”. The bible also says that “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”. It is, therefore, very important to have a prayerful life if you have to be successful. Prayer and meditation on the word of God open doors.

Your values are the key components in determining your character. As human beings, our lives portray our core values. Take stock of your life and see what you value most. The best way is to write down what you think your values are. Now compare that with the way you carry on with your daily life. If your values are love, honesty and sincerity this will tend to be exactly how you treat other people. You will always treat people with love and sincerity. I have also noticed that we make opinions about people based on our own characters and past behaviour.  Just take time to observe your life and you will surely agree with me that what you value most will definitely be primary in your daily life.

Clarify your values

One of the characteristics of good leaders is that they have clarity of their values. Remember that we are all leaders of some sort. You may not be in a leadership position but you are the leader of “yourself corporation limited”. The more you get to know what your values are with clarity the better person you become and the more happiness you experience. Many of us have values that are not clear. If you want to succeed at what you are doing it is very important that you write down a clear set of values that you believe in. These values should actually be engraved and be identified with your belief system. This is also true that most successful corporations have a set of values they adhere to.

Your belief system is also key in determining your values. Remember that our belief system can also be learned or unlearned. Our beliefs are mainly deduced as a result of our past experiences and what we have read and seen. Some experiences can be directly linked to us as individuals or can be someone we have seen or read about. To be successful and develop a positive mental attitude there is need to have clarity in your values and belief system. Personal development and self-growth is not a destination but a journey. We are all on the journey of life, however, the difference is how we are enjoying this journey.

Enjoy your life

There is much joy in doing the right things. I have heard that if you are feeling low and want to experience happiness try giving a helping hand to someone else. You will definitely be filled with joy when you see the glow of happiness in the other person.  I believe that humanity was created to help each other. We are the solution to many people around us. If you look around you will realise that there are many people who are worse than you. The onus is on you to make the best out of the current situation. Stop complaining and blaming people for your current situation. Especially if you are over the age of 18, you have full responsibility for your life. Learn to enjoy life by doing that which God created you for. You have the ability and capacity to improve yourself no matter how bad the situation may look like.

Life was meant to be enjoyed. I have learned that for as long as someone has the breath of life in them they are not to be written off. Never ever look down upon anyone in life no matter what their current situation is, instead try and help them where possible. They say as you climb the ladder upwards ensure that you look after those you leave downwards as they will be able to catch you when a calamity falls on you. No offense but I have noticed that those people occupying higher authority, have a tendency of thinking that they do not need anybody whose below them.  I believe that life is a vicious circle. You never know when someone will come and give you a helping hand simply because you helped them at some point in life. You may not be the direct beneficiary of that help but it could be your children or indeed someone close to you. Some of the favours I have personally received are a result of my late father’s goodwill. People have told me that we have done this for you not because you deserve it but out of appreciation of your late fathers’ good standing with us.

Conclusion

Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals and values are in balance” – Brian Tracy. One of the key areas of personal development and success is knowing what your value set are. Your values form an important aspect of your character. It is your character and will that eventually drives you to your life’s goals. I encourage you to set goals for your life and just be a student of your self. Know yourself as much as possible and take action to correct the areas of your life that you think need correction. Lastly, if this site is an encouragement to you, please feel free to share it. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and counted”.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

We all have formed an image of our self in one way or another. I have been doing a personal study of my performance in relation to my personal image. The discovery has been phenomenon. I have discovered that the way I view my self has a direct relationship with my task performance and my general life output. I believe that this is true for most of us. We live our lives based on our self-image. We form our self-image based on many factors especially external ones. If your self-image is that of a failure or of a loser, believe me, you are most likely living a failed or losing life. However, the opposite is also true. When am carrying out a task and my personal thoughts are negative the results are also not very encouraging. I have sometimes spent hours and hours on articles only to realise that I have not done a good job and this is mostly because I had a negative feeling about the subject. These articles never find their way on my website.

It is, therefore, important that you create a positive self-image if you have to improve your performance.  Having a positive self-image is one of the key factors for enhancing your personal growth. A positive self-image will accelerate your performance levels and speed up your goal attainment process. I know that there are times when you just feel negative about something, it is absolutely okay to feel that way. The key thing is how quickly you turn your negative thoughts into positive ones. I have written enough articles on this website that sometimes when I feel demotivated I start going through some of them and boom my mind is filled with positive thoughts. I have also gotten inspiration for writing even more articles just from reading motivational books. I am not blowing my own trumpet but just merely stressing the point of reading motivational articles.

If you have always had negative thoughts about yourself I encourage you to read the bible for inspiration. There are many books out there but, the bible is the book of life. It is your manual for life. You will begin to see how precious you are in the eyes of God. Failure is mostly associated with our negative self-image. You have the capacity to change and shape your destiny if only you can change your personal image. Change begins with you. If you want to improve your performance and live the life you have always wanted, you must make the mental change to believe that you are the best at what you do and begin to take action. You are responsible for your life and should learn to take full responsibility for your actions and current situation. If you are an adult you should not expect a bailout. Just take responsibility and begin to act on making things better for your self. “The moment of enlightenment is when a person’s dreams of possibilities become images of probabilities” – Vic Bruden.

How do you change your self-image?

This is perhaps the starting point to your personal growth. You, alone are responsible for creating your self-image. It’s like in a marriage, what you tell your relatives and friends about your spouse is what they will know about her.  If you disrespect her, believe me, they will also. What you call your spouse in public is what they will call her. So if you want people to respect her you will always endeavour to tell them positive things about her. Those of you who are married must take this advice seriously. You will respect her in public regardless of the differences you had at home. It’s those that do not value their marriages who will talk negatively about their spouses in public. Yes, every marriage has its own unique problems and we do not want to bring them out in public.

The same is true with how you view and portray yourself to people. The more positive and confident you show people the more positive and confident people will see you. But this begins with yourself seeing the many positive things and qualities you possess. Take a sheet of paper and just write out 20 things that you think you are. You will be amazed at what you will write down. Yes, we fail but that does not mean we should not try again. The most successful people fail many times before they succeed. The less successful people give up once they encounter a challenge. Failure to me is merely an obstacle to be overcome. Life would be very boring without challenges. Many of the times when we encounter challenges it simply means that there is an opportunity to develop a solution for the challenge.

If you keep trying and trying things differently you will surely succeed at what you are doing. Fill your mind with positive self-images about your self and sooner than later your mind will change the way you look at your self. Create a deliberate habit of saying “I like my self” repeatedly every time you feel low emotionally. When you wake up in the morning ask God to help you focus on the positive things in life. Refuse the spirit of negativity and put on the image of positive thinking. Believe that you can complete a task with better results and make time to develop your skillset. Have an open mind to learning new things. Always see failure as a challenge and refuse to accept it. Surely changing your self-image will make you feel much much happier and definitely help to improve your performance. When you feel good about yourself you will perform much much better. After all, what you want most in life is the feeling of happiness.

know that you will come across people that will say unpleasant things about you. But you have the ultimate control to either accept or reject them. And besides, we all have skeletons in our closets. No one on this earth can claim to be pure. It is also beneficial to hang around people that have a positive image about you as this helps to keep you motivated. When you create a positive image about your yourself, somehow it flows from you and attracts the right people. Make a deliberate policy to evaluate your friends some of them may not be very beneficial to your personal growth.

Maintain the discipline of doing what is right

You know, there is a good feeling when you do something that is right. The feeling is just awesome. I would not be wrong to say that we all possess the ability to do the right thing. There is just something nice when we feel that, what we have done is good. All well-meaning people have a conscious that tells us about what we are doing. I usually go with my first thoughts or rather my instincts. If am doing a task that am not sure of its effect on society, mostly I back out unless am convinced otherwise. This is not to say that I have never done the wrong things before. Believe me, I have but, I have learned to take responsibility and help to correct them if I can. I am not ashamed to go back and say am sorry let me correct my wrongdoing. I have developed the discipline of doing what I think and feel is right especially for my success.

Self-discipline is one of the most difficult traits, but an important one for personal development and growth. We keep fighting every day to do the right things. Our minds are always telling us to do the easier things in life than do the most difficult and important things first. Like delayed gratification, we always want to spend money rather than save for the future. I will be honest, I also struggle on a daily basis to do the easy things and forget the difficult and necessary tasks. But tell you what, every time I conquer this edge, there is a feeling of joy and satisfaction.

Developing the discipline of doing the right things first is a good attribute to helping in improving your performance. Doing the right things always makes you feel motivated and proud of yourself. Society lucks men and women who can stand up to do the right things even in the advent of criticism. It seems to me that many of us have fallen prey to doing what is popular or trending for fear of being called bad names. We would rather be on the same side with the majority even when we know deep down our hearts that what we have done is wrong.

Conclusion
