“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Nature dictates that we grow. One cannot remain in the same position forever. All growth comes from within. We grow so as to make meaningful contributions to the world. We were created not to live in isolation.

Whether you are contributing positively or not the fact still remains that you are endowed with unique talents and potential that need to be shared with the world.

You are part of the big family that is interlinked and interdependent now more than ever before. We now live in a global village where we have more access to either side of the world than before, via the use of technology.

All humans have a duty and responsibility to use their talents and provide solutions that benefit humankind. You can help change the world and make it a better place to live for all by making your life useful.

Everything that you do has an effect on the quality of the kind of life you are leading. If you are positive you are most likely contributing positively to your well-being.

The current state of your well-being largely determines how much your contribution is to the world. Stop thinking that you have nothing to give.

No matter what you are going through, the fact that you are still alive means that God is not yet through with you. He has given you another opportunity to change the things that you need to change in your life.

Stop giving excuses, get up and get ready for your next challenge. Life is about overcoming obstacles and challenges that are thrown at us.

Make your life worthwhile by being positive and useful. Life was not meant to be lived miserably or unhappy. Get out of your negative frame of mind and begin to do something meaningful with your life.

Decide What You Want for Your Life

When you do not have a plan for your life you live an aimless one. You move with the wind. Opportunities will pass you by. Often times you will be forced to take anything that comes your way just to make earns meet.

However, if you have a plan, you tend to attract and choose the right opportunities that help advance your life to the next level. You make your choices off the fact that they are in tandem with your life’s vision and plan.

If you have a plan in place you are more likely living a very happy and fulfilling life. You are more likely making changes that are influencing the world positively.

That is why it is very advisable to quickly formulate your life’s plan early in life. This way you live to enjoy the fruits of your labour much much longer. It also helps because this is the time when you have so much energy to pursue your dreams.

However, if you do have a plan for your life you can devise it right away. The following techniques might be of great help when coming up with your plan.

  • Prayer – prayer moves mountains. Spend time in prayer, seeking God’s guidance over your life. God has the blueprint for your life. He has the manual for your life. He knows what you are capable of doing and what you can achieve. Put him at the centre of your life. Let him be the guiding force over everything you do. The bible says “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” God is never tired of being asked.
  • Find what makes you happy – I believe that we all want to live a happy life. We are most effective when we are happy. Find what makes you happy and do more of it. If you do not derive pleasure from your current job or employment, it is definitely not for you. I guess that your performance is not as effective as it should be. You should seriously evaluate your current job or employment before you make any further decisions that may affect your financial livelihood.
  • Find what you do with less effort – We all have something that we can give easily. Deep down embedded in each and every one of us, is something that flows with very little or no effort. You need to tap into that realm and harness it. It is most likely what your purpose is all about.

Take Action

Once you have decided what you want your life to be like, it is time to take action. It is time to set the train of life into motion. They say “a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.” By the way, make sure you write down your life’s plan on paper.

Break your plan into smaller achievable goals and begin to work on them. Start working towards achieving your goals even when your plan is not as perfect as you want it. It will become more clearer when you start working on it and as you put God at the centre of every aspect of your life.

God is always faithful when we trust him and involve him in our daily activities.

Action is what produces results. To succeed you need to work and work smart. Work is motion in action. Yes, you will encounter failure. Your reaction to failure will determine your willingness to achieve your life’s plan. Don’t let failure stop you from achieving your destiny.

Do not be discouraged when you fail. Failure is part of personal development. Instead, learn from your failures and mistakes.

Resolve to do something that helps move you closer to your goals every single day. Remember you are on a journey and every step make counts. When you do nothing, you delay your own progress. When you take action you accelerate your progress.

Taking action makes you feel useful. When you are moving towards achieving your personal growth you are also naturally contributing to the world.

You may not know it, but remember that you will be interacting with nature as you work towards improving your life. Nature is neutral. It will give you back what you give.

Be Thankful and Helpful

helping hand

Practicing gratitude is of paramount importance to humanity. To have a great impact on people you must learn to be thankful and be of help. A little thank you when you have been saved goes a long way to lifting the morale of the person serving.

Being thankful is a way of showing appreciation for the service being rendered. Being thankful is also a sign of showing gratitude.

Many studies that have been conducted have shown that gratitude can be a very important source of happiness. In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

Being helpful is another way of making your life useful. Helping others is good for your heart, it relieves pain and stress, and motivates you to achieve your own goals.

Being helpful is not only good for you, but it is also good for the person receiving help. One act of kindness can turn into many acts of reciprocal kindness. When you offer to help someone, do it voluntarily and do not expect anything in return. If you do it with expectations you will be disappointed.

There is always someone that needs help, look around and find someone you can lend a helping hand. Most of us think that help always has to be in monetary terms. Actually, help can be in any acceptable form. Helping is a form of service and I believe that there is joy in service.

In the same vein of helping, you must also learn to ask for help when you need it. This way you give chance for people to shine in their areas of expertise. You give people the opportunity to grow when they are of help to you.

Share What You Have

They say sharing is caring. Don’t live a lonely life. Be open with people about your knowledge and skills. Let them know that you are always ready to share with them when requested to do so.

Do not be stingy with what you have. Sharing allows you to create even more closer relationships with other people. Know that what you have is valuable and is needed by many other people. The world would not be what it is today if many other people did not share their knowledge, skills, and or possessions with us.

Sharing is an act of kindness. The bible encourages us to share, “there are more blessings from giving than receiving.” When we give we create room for more blessings.

Conclusion

Being useful does not necessarily mean allowing other people to use you. It means offering what you can when you can and doing so with a happy and willing heart. It means you creating time for other people.

A Changed Mind is Powerful

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We speak what is in us. Your speech is directly linked with what is harboured in your mind.

Life demands that we grow physically, spiritually and mentally. Although these processes of transitioning from childhood to adulthood seem to come naturally, we have a huge responsibility and duty to ensure that the transition is smooth.

Not only to see it happen but to ensure that it is done right. Even as a small child we were responsible for ensuring that the food prepared for us was eaten. Our parents or guardians were only responsible for the provision.

Just as the body needs nourishment to stay in good physical condition, the mind and the spirit which are mostly neglected also need to be looked after very well.

Everything that we do starts with the mind. I cannot think of anything that the body does that is not controlled by the brain which houses our mind. If you want success you need to have a success mind. You need to change the way you think.

Watch your thoughts they become you actions, watch your actions they become your character that defines you. In every situation or circumstance the state of your mind largely determines the way you navigate through life.

Stop doubting your ability to think big. You have more than enough capacity to achieve anything that you think about. If you can think it then you can be it. If you have a negative state of mind you need to change your thinking habits.

If it means changing the people you hang around with, do it. You are currently in your stagnant life mainly because you have not allowed your mind to provide solutions for you. You have created a box that you cannot think beyond its edges.

Feed Your Mind the Right Stuff

What are you reading? What are you watching? If you are not reading you are starving the growth of your mind. The Bible says “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation of the mind is key to both your survival and your personal development and self improvement.

Your outward life is a reflection of the world within. You may wonder why your life is stagnant. Take a look at your predominant thoughts and bang! you have your answer. If you spend most of your time complaining you are most likely a complainant.

Life gives you back what you give it. If you give it lemons, you get lemons out of it. You cannot expect to harvest apples from a mango tree neither, can you expect to harvest mango’s from an apple tree.

If you want apples plant an apple tree, take care of it diligently and in due course you can harvest apples. If you want to achieve success change your thinking habits and have a success mind. Be successful in your mind and work towards achieving it.

One of the ways I use to help stay positive is by reading motivational books and the Bible on a daily basis. Everyday I spend at least not less than one and a half hours reading. I have a deliberate target of reading at least two book in a month.

I listen to podcasts, CD’s and watch motivational videos. With the advent of the internet there is lots of free sources for material, You Tube is one of them. I have also greatly reduced on my TV time. Yes, I do find time to relax with my family but I spend most of my free time reading.

The change has been immense. My thinking has greatly improved and is more positive than before. Now, am not saying I do not have negative thoughts, I do have them from time to time but I have also learned how to handle them.

I do not allow them to take over my predominant thoughts. Getting rid of them quickly, once they surface is one of the techniques I use. I have also learned to be more focused and have become more productive with my work.

Get Your Hands Dirty

Don’t just end at changing your thinking habits. To achieve anything you need to put in the time, you need to fold your sleeves and get your hands dirty. You need to work.

Thinking without taking action will not put food on your table. Remember you have bills to settle and they are paid from your earnings and these come from your work.

Get to work even when your plan is not as clear as you want it to be. It will become more clearer as you navigate through it on a daily basis. The most important thing is to just get started.

When I was setting out to start this blog I had no concrete idea on the direction it would take. To be honest even up to now I cannot exactly say what direction it will take. The only direction I pray and hope it will continue taking is the provision of free personal development and self improvement materials.

I keep getting more ideas on how to make improvements to the site and currently I have been thinking of publishing an eBook. I know this is going to be hard work. I know for sure that hard work is not a guarantee to success, but it surely is the only chance I have.

I believe that human beings were created to work. If you are not working, you are more likely living a life you do not enjoy. Work is also good for the health of your body. Working also makes you feel relevant in life as you are contributing to the growth of the world.

The Bible says “a good man shall leave an inheritance for his children’s children.” Yes,  it is your responsibility to ensure that your children and your grand children have a heads start in life.

You may say I never had a good start, well the fact that you are here, reading this article, means that you are privileged enough to make sure that those coming after you have a heads start.

The Bible also says that “if a man will not work, he shall not eat.” A little sleep, a little slumber and a little folding of the arms to rest and poverty will come upon you like a robber. There is no substitute for getting your hands dirty, it has to be done.

Conclusion

If there is one thing you must possess it is having a clear thinking mental attitude. Having a changed and positive mind will surely give you a heads start in all your endeavours. Your mind is the heart of your life, guard it from destructive vices. Do not neglect to nourish it well. Change your mind and change the narrative for your life.

Nothing Feels As Good As When You Give Willingly

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants.” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present.” – Unknown

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive” – The Bible. “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” – Winston Churchill.

Giving just like receiving generally makes you feel happy. There are many studies and researches that have been conducted to prove that giving is a happiness antidote. So if you want to be happy there you go just start giving.

There is even more joy when you give, not because you have to, but because you want to. I believe that giving should not be done under duress or under any external pressure.

Giving is also Biblical. The Bible says “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” – NLT.

This is powerful. We are told that when you give you will receive back in full. I love this, on top of the happiness and joy you feel, your gift is given back to you in full, not half or quarter but in full measure and in fact pressed down to make room for more, WOW.

The Bible also says that “God loves a cheerful giver.”  To me a cheerful giver is one that is giving out of his own free will and volition; one that has not been coerced. I know that some people will not like what am about to say. Especially some Pentecostal preachers.

There is so much preaching about financial prosperity to the extent that you begin to feel as if the preacher is talking about you. I have heard stories of people who have given their pension to churches, yes you read right PENSION, all in the name of prosperity.

Look this is crazy, I mean who does that? I have been to churches and have felt like demanding back my money after being coerced into giving. Thank God I belong to a very good church Miracle Life Family Church.  If you happen to be in Lusaka, Zambia please pay us a visit. I can guarantee you will feel at home.

Provide For Your Family

If you are a parent like me, it is your responsibility to provide for your family. Not only financial support but also in many aspects of your children’s lives. One of the biggest mistakes we make as parents especially us fathers is to think that we only need to provide financial support.

We have a tendency of leaving the mothers to do rest. Yes financial provision is important but your children need you in every aspect of their lives. Get involved in knowing them better not just by name. Create time off your busy schedule and spend some quality time with them.

The relationship I had with my father was more or less strictly Dad, Son relationship. At no time did my Dad get involved with helping me with my school work. He only got involved when it was time to get my report card.

Well I don’t blame him and am not complaining. Maybe that is the way he was brought up. However, am trying to change the narrative for my kids. I try as much as possible to know how they are doing at school and help them where I can. Am not perfect and there is still a lot of room for improvement that needs to be filled in this area.

Its also time consuming but its worthwhile. The benefits of spending more time with my family out weighs the benefits of chasing after that extra income. Not that I do not need the extra finances, I need it, neither am  saying you should not work had, but you need to strike a balance between family and work.

Remember parenting is a one time shot. You either get it right or wrong and before you know it the kids would have grown and you would have missed out in influencing their development at the right time.

I believe that family is more important than money. Look, how many people do you know that have a lot of money and are divorced? This goes to show you that money is not everything. I do not subscribe to the notion that money is the answer to all your problems.

Money should be regarded as a tool just like any other that you use to help alleviate your life. Do not love money. I believe that it is good to have a healthy bank account “but the love for money is the root of all evil.” – the Bible.

Giving Is An Expression of Gratitude

When you give you are expressing gratitude. You are blessing someone with your earthly possessions. I have also learnt that when you give, you create more room for receiving.

Giving does not necessarily have to be material items. You will be shocked that even just emotional support is very much appreciated. You could give your time as well.

I was elated by my some of my church members from our cell group when they visited me during my young brothers funeral. Their visit just made me feel that I belong to a supportive family because I never expected them to visit.

If you look around your home you will realise that you have so many things that you no longer need or have use for, that can be useful to some people. It could be old books, old toys, old clothes and anything else. Give them away.

There is always someone who is in need. It could just be someone in your neighbour hood or even a close friend or relative. Where I come from there is always someone in need. There is always an opportunity to give back.

It is just natural that if you have to be more you need to be more. You cannot experience extra ordinary personal growth by doing ordinary things. Leave the ordinary to ordinary people. Do the extra ordinary and see if you will not be an achiever.

If you have to wakeup at 04:00 in the morning do it. If you have to stay late at the office go ahead and give it your best shot.

Just like at school, you cannot get good results if you are not putting in extra hours of study. Look school is hard work. Those who achieve more are those who have developed an attitude of going the extra mile.

If you spend most of your time fooling around and expect to get good results you in for a rude shock. The bible says “you reap what you sow.” If you think that by sleeping 10hrs a day you will achieve your goals, well good luck.

The joy of giving is multiplied because we know the joy of receiving. Put yourself on the receiving end every time you give something out. Am always happy when I see the expression of happiness on my children’s faces when I give them something. Also learn to give without expecting anything back.

Give because you are happy to do it.

Giving Encourages Social Connection

Being generous promotes and encourages social connections. When you give you are more likely to get back. If you belong to any social group you will agree with me that you are more likely to help those that are more generous.

Nature requires us to create social connections in order to have a better life. I have observed that even in family circles there is always one who receives more attention when they are in need. This is usually because of their giving stature.

The more you give the more connected you become. This exchange of gifts usually promotes a sense of trust and cooperation that strengths our ties to other people it takes away loneliness.

The most important thing is that when we give to others we make them feel closer or rather we draw them closer to us and this usually opens up other avenues for mutual understanding and cooperation.

Social connections are very important in our lives.

Conclusion

Perhaps giving is one of the most important act of expressing gratitude. It is also a source of and joy and happiness. When you give always make sure you do not give under any pressure but out of your own free will.

Lastly “give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give the world your best anyway” – Mother Theresa. Lets continue to give freely and willingly to help one another and make the world a better place for all.

Why is a Positive Mental Attitude Important?

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Hillis.

“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with a wrong mental attitude” – Thomas Jefferson.

Attitude is everything. At the heart and core of personal development is mental attitude. Success or failure is largely determined by ones’ reaction to their environment. The ability to react is a result of your mentality.

How you react to adversity; your ability to grow and learn and your ability to overcome challenges are all factors that are largely influenced by your mental attitude.

What determines your success or failure is your attitude towards life. If you have a positive mental attitude you are more likely to succeed. That is why it is very important to keep a positive mental attitude.

For this reason, you will agree, that one of the most important personal assets to continuously make improvements on, is your mental attitude. If you want to achieve more, you must ensure that you work on improving your mental attitude.

It is the get way to life’s opportunities. How you react to different situations will determine what course of action you will take.

You may not realise it but, sometimes opportunities come and they pass you by, simply because of your negative way of thinking.

The most successful people are those that have a positive mentality even when they are faced with adversity. Yes, I know that sometimes it is very difficult to stay positive, but if you want to succeed you need to put on a positive mentality.

They say “the only disability in life is a bad mental attitude.” We all have weaknesses. I always say that we are all challenged in one way or the other. But, the only disability is having a bad mentality.

I have seen people who are physically challenged, yet are successful in life. A good example is one of my favourite preachers Nick Vujicic.

This is a man who is physically challenged yet with great charisma and a positive mental attitude towards life. I find his teachings amazing.

The reality with life is that we are solely responsible for forming our own attitudes. God has given us the authority and willpower to be in charge and be responsible for our own characters.

It Has an Effect on Your Life

Your attitude is usually formed over a period of time due to your life’s experiences. However, your reaction and actions towards any given situation are but your choice.

You have the power and will to choose how you are going to react to any given situation. Only you are in charge of the willpower to choose.

Your reaction towards life also has a bearing on both your long and short-term achievements. The negative reactions will usually delay your success rate and increase your failure rate.

What you want in life is to increase your chances of success, which can only be done with a positive attitude.

The more positive your attitude is the more increased your chances of success is.

Like I have said before that life is enjoyed when you triumph. Winning can be addictive just as losing can be demoralising.

It’s like in sport, the more you win, the more motivated you are and the more invincible you feel. However, the opposite is true, the more you lose the more demoralised you feel.

Am sure it takes more energy and a great attitude to reverse a losing streak in any situation.

The effects of having a positive way of thinking on your life is the ultimate feeling you should be aiming for. You have better self-esteem and your confidence is enhanced.

Confidence naturally reduces your stress levels and you develop a feel-good factor about yourself, that leads to more happiness. After all, the ultimate goal in life is to live a happy and healthy life.

It Can Help Boost Your Self-Esteem

As mentioned before having a positive attitude has many benefits among them is the improvement and boosting of your self-esteem.

The quality of your life and the way you feel about yourself are all linked to your mental attitude.

The more positive your mental attitude is, the better the quality of your life.

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” – Brian Tracy.

If you think positively, you will feel happier. If you are negative, you’ll feel pretty dull. Boost your self-esteem by looking at yourself in a positive light and picking out the things you like about yourself. Also, turn any negative features or characteristics into positives.

People will always have an opinion about you, it’s important to not let what others think to bother you, and to really try not to worry yourself about what they think at all.

I have a personal rule, of not paying so much attention to things that I have no control of. One of which is that you will never have control of what people think or say about you. Make it a policy that they do not affect your happiness.

Always remember that everything action you take has consequences and it is basically a reflection of your inner being. Like I said before you have the willpower to make better choices.

As mentioned above attitudes are formed through experience. They are learnable. This means that both positive and negative mental attitudes have been learned over time. Just like anything else that can be learned they can also be unlearned.

According to a Stanford Research Institute study, the path to success is comprised of 88% attitude and only 12% education. This does not negate the importance of education but goes to show how vital a positive mental attitude is to success.

Self-esteem can only be boosted by unlearning the negative way of thinking and replacing it with a positive one.

It Can Improve Your Motivation

You are motivated when you are sure of yourself. Motivation is a product of having a positive outlook. Motivation is key to achieving your personal development and self-improvement.

When you are of good cheer, nothing can stand in your way. Yes, you will stumble but will turn adversity to your advantage. A person of good cheer will surely succeed in life because they will be razor-focused on achieving their goals.

“When you change the way you look at things; the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer.

Conclusion

“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.” – Brian Tracy.

Having a positive mental attitude is what you should be working towards achieving.

Your Mind is the Get Way to Your Success

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think” – Benjamin Desraeli. This article is a follow-up to yesterdays post entitled your health is your wealth. The state of your mind has a great effect on your life’s well being. Your mind directs your foot paths. In other words your mind is the compass for your life’s direction. You are where you are because of what you think constantly and the action you have taken. You are a sum total of your thoughts and actions. That thinking takes place in your mind. With this knowledge, I know that a healthy mind is key to achieving your life’s intended purpose.

As human beings who are aspiring and focused to contributing positively to a better society, it is therefore, inevitable that we know how to keep our minds healthy. We must also aspire to develop and devise the right mental attitude and create the desire to take action. There is no quick fix to this statement. This however, does not come easy. They say the most high paying jobs are those that involve thinking. Whether this is true or not is a matter for another day.

Most people who have succeed in life have deliberately developed a right mental attitude towards life. Yes I know that life will not always be easy. But, it also entails that we must be prepared for what comes along because even the so called easy things are not as easy as they seem. Just because you can get over a task with ease does not necessarily mean it is easy for the next person. If you point your compass in the right direction and take the necessary steps in the right direction you are surely guaranteed to meet with success. “The mind has exactly the same power as the hands; not merely to grasp the world, but to change it” – Colin Wilson.

In this regard preparation is key. At the core of ones character is ones thinking and attitude. It is therefore, of paramount importance that we feed our minds with the right stuff. The stuff that will help us in the future and in the present. The right stuff could simply mean changing the people we hangout with; taking time to further our education; making a complete u-turn in the things we are currently doing. You will agree with me that our minds continuously play back our life’s experiences. These experiences come through different ways that may include the following;  real life experiences, reading books, watching videos etc. We should not just exist to navigate through life but to ensure that we leave the world a better place than we found it.

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him” – Buddha.

Throughout the years of my life I have discovered that everything that I have become, is as a result of the thoughts and the decision I have made. Believe me some of the decisions I have made in the past are terrible. But you know what am OK with them because I cannot change the past. These are what have helped me learn how to navigate through life with ease. You may not realise it but your thinking and attitude towards life is what has brought you to your current situation. However, do not despair, if your compass is pointing in the wrong direction there is still room to correct it.

I believe that you can still achieve your goals and life’s intended purpose regardless of your current situation and age. You can turn round the ship and begin to sail in the right direction. After all life is not a competition. The fact that you are reading this article could be that you are ready to take the next step in your life. The starting point of all success is to change the way you think. If your thoughts are always negative change them and begin to believe in yourself a lot more and just having a positive outlook about life. Look, not everything that glitters is gold. Even the people you think are successful have struggles in their lives. Its just that they are more optimistic and positive about it. They have prepared themselves mentally for what life has to offer.

Conclusion

The sooner you realise that you need to protect your mind from negativity the better. The bible says “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. If we are to leave a better world we then must learn to feed our minds with the correct stuff and begin to act on it. There is so much going on in this world that needs to be corrected and I believe that you are living now for a reason and purpose. You may be going the wrong way with your life but I know that you change the status quo by repositioning your mind. I challenge you to find it within yourself. “The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind” – William James. Always remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

Get set, ready, steady go. The challenge starts today. The die is cast. There is no turning back. This is the beginning of the month-long article posting challenge. In my previous post, I made a public declaration and challenged myself to a daily article posting challenge for the month of February. Well, the month is right upon us. This is the first post for the challenge. At the end of this month, we should have a minimum of 29 articles of good value. The month has already started with challenges for me and I need to quickly learn how to navigate through them without disturbing my 29 Days challenge. I know that I will face a lot of them, but what will determine my success are the learning points that I will take from them.

I am not looking back but pressing ahead and see how far this challenge will take me. The beauty of it is that at the end of February  I will have moved a step closer to achieving my objective of improving my writing skills and contributing to humanity. I believe that when something is written it is indelible. Usually, we write what we believe in or what we want to say. Most of the time we convey our feelings and thoughts through writing.  The major difference between speaking and writing is the ease of reference. It is much easier to refer to written speeches. Written messages are never forgotten. Today we continue to make reference to the many quotes because they were written down.

Here are some of the key objectives of the 29 Day Challenge.

Increase content on the site

Increasing site content is a no brainer. Remember that I pledged to increase content on this site. The more articles that are posted on any site will, of course, add to the existing site content and hence increase the overall content. This is a basic SEO rule. The search engines love new content. This has the potential to greatly improve the site rankings by the search engines and therefore, increase search engine traffic to the website.

I believe that search engine traffic is the best because users reach your site through what they are searching for. They are more specific. Increased traffic means increased visibility and access to a wider audience. My hope is to reach as many people as possible. Through this am hoping to get more referral links pointing to this site. More backlinks mean more improved search engine rankings. This can only be good news for me.

Improve visitor satisfaction

Visitor satisfaction will come with the quality of the content being generated. Although visitor satisfaction will not only depend on content quality, there are many other factors that will ensure it is achieved. Some of them may beyond my control. However, I will endeavour to change those things that are within my power. I am also very much aware that you cannot please every visitor. But, I will try as much as possible to make the site user-friendly and work with more reliable and faster hosting service providers.

Improve my writing skills

They say practice makes perfect. I believe that even before I undertake this challenge, my writing skills are improving with every article I write. I can only assume that there will be a great improvement at the end of the challenge. I know that there is a lot of room for improving my writing skills. I can assure you that am constantly working to improving them on a regular basis. The better and more easily my articles are the more user satisfaction is generated.

Improve writing inspiration

Those of my friends who are artists and bloggers will understand what am saying when I say that you need the inspiration to write. It is not easy to just wake up and start writing. You need to have some kind of inspiration to put your thoughts on paper and worse still put them in a meaningful way. A musician always needs the inspiration to write and sing songs. The inspiration may come through real-life experiences and many other sources. One of the most killers of not putting down our thoughts is differing them to another time. I have learned over the years that when you feel inspired to write, don’t postpone to a later time, your thoughts will have disappeared by then. Just sit down and get going with it. Your thoughts will flow on paper. Usually, the idea is not even as clear at the beginning but as you delve into it you simply flow with it.

Conclusion

As we undertake this journey together I also challenge you to do something you have never done before. It could be exercising on a daily basis for a period of time. You could also challenge yourself to get rid of an old bad habit. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it adds more value to yourself and the world at large. I believe that we will be made to account for how we spend our time on this earth.

Everything is Hard Before It’s Easy

Human beings by nature want to have easy things in life. Most of us are full of envy when we see our friends driving beautiful fancy cars and living a seemingly comfortable and enjoying life in general.

How we long to arrive at the so-called “easy life” destination without hard work. Yet it does not come.

The lazier we become the further away we drift from the good life. Yes we can all achieve what we want and I believe, that is what God intended for us all. But achieving our hearts desires requires us to take bold and right steps; to make bold decisions that require a mindset change.

Personal development and self-growth requires a change in our mind and belief systems. If you are to achieve your goals, there is no doubt that your attitude and mindset have to be in sync.

Perhaps this could be a great start for you to set your year’s objectives and goals. The key thing is to start somewhere. Start now, plan to succeed at whatever you are intending to do. I believe that everything that is worthwhile is worth your effort.

If everything in life was easy to achieve or get, then life would have been very boring. Our bodies were designed to work, both physically and mentally.

I have discovered that nature is neutral. God has blessed us with the same environment, we all have equal access to the environment.

No one on this earth can claim to have more or less than 24hrs a day, I have never heard of anyone who has more or less air.

We all experience the same conditions at a given time. We all tap into the same universal resources. We are all products of the same universe. We were all created in the image of God.

The difference, however, is how efficient and effectively we use these abundant resources that God has given us.

The question that one may ask is how come life seems to be easy for some people? Well, I believe that there is nothing that comes as easy as it seems and let me just say that life is never easy.

All good things come at a cost. You must be willing to pay the price before you begin to reap and enjoy the rewards. I know for sure that for you to live a happy and successful life you must be willing to pay the price and be disciplined enough to delay gratification.

Most of us want to live in the now and not in the future. We do not want to delay gratification.

Even the so-called easy life is not as easy as it seems. It may look easy from the outside but it is not what it seems.

I remember during my earlier working days in life when we used to envy our friends who worked for bigger and “better” corporate organisations.

We all would be saying “if only I worked for that organisation life would be easy”. Yet the people working for the same organisations would be looking elsewhere.

Condition Your Mind to Start Working

You will agree with me that everything that is good is worth working for. It feels very nice when you have worked for something and are enjoying the benefits.

It gives me much pleasure when I have achieved a target. I have a sense of joy and my mind is always positive to even work harder. It is, therefore, very important to set goals that are achievable in order that you keep a positive mental attitude.

Failure should, however, not be an obstacle it should be viewed as a challenge to be overcome. It should be a learning process.

Every day of our lives we are constantly pushing ourselves to achieve targets. You may not realise it but every day of your life you are achieving a target this could either be positive or negative the choice is yours.

You need to prepare your mind for success. Preparing your mind for success is important as this will also allow you to grow with your success.

This will require you to take deliberate steps to condition your mind. If need be, you may have to change your friends or get out of some bad relationships. Yes I mean change your friends.

Not all relationships are actually beneficial some can be very detrimental. You may also need to move to a new location.

Over time I have personally had to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle. I have had to reduce my inner circle. This has helped me a great deal.

I am more focused on what I do. Believe me, some relationships can be a distraction to your progress, the sooner you identify them and make the necessary change the better.

It may be difficult for you to make drastic changes right now but if you are serious about shaping your future, find a way to adjust. Do not allow friendship to hinder your progress.

Your mind plays a key role in determining your overall progress in life. What you feed your mind on a daily basis is very important. The Bible says “for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

If you hang around people with a positive mental attitude you are most certainly going to have a positive attitude the opposite is also true.

Everything that we do or want to do in life begins in our minds. Our minds are, therefore, the workshop or the engine room for everything.

Do you realise that everything that is made by man was first conceived in the mind? This is how important our mind is.

Apart from hanging around with positive-minded people, you could also start reading books and listening to audiotapes that will have a positive impact on your mind.

Make a deliberate habit to change your mind and ensure that you take action everyday.

There is No Easy Route

Once you have started pursuing your goals learn to be patient with yourself. You will keep on falling and failing.

Every new skill or habit takes time to execute with minimum effort. Keep learning from your mistakes and be open-minded to make the necessary changes.

I have noticed that most of the young generation are in the habit of trying to cut corners especially in the area of financial freedom. They want to start climbing the tree from the top instead of learning the ropes.

Believe me, it is not worth it. I am yet to find an easy route to success that is not short-lived. Ever since I embarked on doing what I love most it has not been easy.

Yes, I enjoy it but the journey has not been an easy one. I have enjoyed both dry moments and good ones. What keeps me going is the fact that I enjoy writing and believe that these articles are of help to someone.

I am still very much a work in progress but impressed with my own progress so far.

From my studies and personal experience on the subject of self-growth and improvement, I have learned that cutting corners only yields short-lived happiness.

If you want long-lasting happiness resolve to do the right things. You will have a peace of mind for the rest of your life. The small things that I have achieved so far through hard work make me feel over the moon.

They may be small but they actually count a lot to me. After all, success is the sum total of the small things we accomplish on a daily basis.

I am not in any competition or race with anybody and therefore, will move at my own pace.

Like I always say if something is worth the salt then it is worth your sweat. Everything is always difficult for the first time.

Conclusion

Everything in life is hard before it’s easy. They say that it takes 21 Days to develop a new habit. If habits can be learned then they can be unlearned.

You can take advantage of this theory and change your non-productive habits to those that will in the process help you grow as an individual.

Having the knowledge that our minds are very critical to our personal development and self-improvement it is therefore very important that you learn to guard your mind and heart.

The Bible says “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” – Philippians. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” – Proverbs.

Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted.

Is living consciously beneficial?

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Why is it important to live consciously or have a conscious mind? Do you live consciously? “I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor” – Henry D Thoreau. Many of us live our lives on auto pilot. We just flow with the wind. We find our selves and lives drifting with the wind. One of the most important aspects of personal development is to develop a habit of living consciously. This helps create a sense of expectation and builds confidence in us. Confidence also helps build motivation. Over the years I have developed a mechanism to doing things consciously and this has a really benefited me from my daily life. I have noticed a surge in my productivity and a major shift in my efficiency levels.

I have noticed that by living consciously, there is very little room for mistakes and surprises as most the work and things are done with full alertness and knowledge of the consequences. Conscious living is one of my key themes for this web site and as such I will be talking about it very frequently in the coming articles. You will agree that most of the things we do are done almost unconsciously but it is very beneficial to take control of your daily living by creating a conscious mind. You should develop an attitude of doing or carrying out your daily activities consciously as this allows you to take control of yourself and your inner being.

Habits can be learned and unlearned. I can safely say that 99% of our habits are learned over time. I know that the only things that we are naturally born with as human beings is the fear of falling and the fear of noise. That is why you will notice that most babies get very uncomfortable when you take them in noisy places. The rest of the habits are learnt over a period of time. When I say all habits can be learned I mean just that, including bad ones. Now if all habits can be learned it is therefore, very possible that you can learn the habit of living consciously. If you put your mind to it and practice the habit of doing things consciously you will notice an improvement in your daily life and execution of your work.

Practice makes perfect
To help with living consciously you must tell yourself in the morning that I shall endeavour to do things consciously to day and keep reminding yourself. Some how the brain keeps checking and alerting you when it is conditioned to carry out tasks in a certain way. Am always reminded by my sub conscious every time am performing a task. Being a conscious person has really helped me in the execution of my daily tasks. I have also developed the habit of writing down my daily tasks as a way of remembering what should be done at a particular time. I take a review of my to do list every night. This I do mentally and believe me my success rate has dramatically improved overtime. Practice living consciously for the next 21 days and it will become a habit for you. If you do something for 21 days continuously it becomes a habit. They say practice makes perfect.

Conscious living is one of the best ways to improve your personal growth and increase your productivity. Like I said before you will reduce your proneness to surprises and errors. You will do tasks with a peace of mind knowing that, what you have delivered is actually what you intended to deliver. It may not be the correct delivery as required but, then it is what you as an individual intended to deliver. When you have developed  the habit of living consciously you will also enhance the spirit of expectation. It is good practice to always double check your work as this will ensure quality production. Now don’t get me wrong there are times when my work has been terribly below par. The only comforting thing with me, is that I have also development a habit of accepting criticism no matter how hard it is.

Accept criticism
I believe that there is a lot of positiveness in accepting criticism. A good leader is one that accepts both praises and criticism. If you are in a leadership position, which we all are, you should learn to tolerate and accept criticism. A leader has a responsibility to the people he is leading. If you are a husband then you are a leader for wife, children and your entire house hold. In fact we are all leaders of our self and all work for me company limited. You are solely responsible for your life and the direction you take. Most of us are still waiting for someone to lead our lives. Now if you are a Christian like me you will say, but God is my shepherd yes he is but he is not responsible for the decision you make. Most of the times he leads as to certain places but we are always making the wrong decisions and end up in wrong places.

If you are directly responsible for leading a group of people the more reason why you should have a big heart for accepting criticism. After all we do not have the monopoly of knowledge. Some of it will be as blunt and as direct and sometimes may seem like an insult but that is what leadership is all about. It is about taking in all the criticism and providing solutions and hope to the team. You may not have the answers right away but people should have the confidence that you will guide them through the storm. Leaders must learn to create a sense of hope and trust in their followers.

Those in leadership must learn to take responsibility for both positive and negative out comes. I believe that criticism helps us grow as individuals. It is very important that we analyse it and make a deliberate effort to improve. As human beings I have noticed that we do not take criticism very well and mostly we just want to take only the positive aspects of the praises. If we have to grow as individuals we must take responsibility for all our actions both negative and positive. Leaders must realise that they have more on their shoulders than their followers. With more, there is more that is expected of you.  The more or the larger the organisation being lead the more demands placed on the leadership. “The speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Conclusion
If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living” – Gail Heehy. Living consciously is more beneficial to individuals as it gives us control of our lives and helps with productivity. I hope this article has helped you bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

8 Ways to Help Maximise Your Potential part two

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

This is the second article of a two part series on 8 ways to help maximise your potential. A quick reminder of the definition of the world potential according to the oxford dictionary “potential is having or showing the capacity to develop into something in the future“.  Personal development and growth is a vehicle that you can use to help maximise your potential. We are all built with potential, that is waiting to be unleashed and maximised. “The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential.. .these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence” – Eddie Robinson. Lets get straight into it and see what the remaining 4 ways are:-

Know Yourself

You will be amazed to learn that many of us do not know ourselves very well. It may sound absurd that am talking about knowing yourself but it is very important that you know yourself and have total control of your being. I believe that self knowledge is the starting point of maximising your potential. It gives us an insight into understanding our capabilities. Knowing your self will help you understand where your natural strengths lie and how well you can combine them to take advantage of the prevailing opportunities.

Donald O. Clifton and Paula Nelson in “play to your strengths” outline five different ways in which we can discover our strengths as outlined below:-

  • Listen for yearnings – normally our yearnings are often triggered when we hear or see someone doing something we would like to do or feel we can do it better. You will agree with me that there is something you are yearning to do but do not realise it because you have not paid attention to your self.
  • Watch out for satisfactions – what really satisfies you? When you get a glow of satisfaction from doing something (work related off course) even though we may not understand why, this is most likely one of your strengths.
  • Watch out for rapid learning – a strength is usually characterised by rapid learning. Am very sure that you do have things that you learn more easily than others. This will usually continue for a longtime if not a life time.
  • Be aware of moments of excellence – position your mind to be alert to your moments of excellence. I believe that each and everyone of us has had a moment of excellence in their lives.
  • Watch for total performance of excellence.

Over the years I have learned to be a student of my self. Learning is a continuous process and so from time to time I do a personal re-evaluation. This process has so far proved to be very important and of great use to my personal development and growth.

Make the Change for New Things

Don’t get stuck in the survival or maintenance modes of personal development and growth. You need to make the change for new things in order to maximise your potential.  We live in an ever changing world and the only way to keep moving forward is to embrace change. Most of us have a reputation of resisting change. I know that change comes with at a price but it must be embraced as it usually comes with different opportunities. “Your current conditions do not reflect your ultimate potential” – Anthony Robbins.

Life demands that we move with time and everyday is a new day. It is also important to be always reading and improving your skill set. Knowledge is key to success and you should always be willing to learn on a daily basis. There instances when you cannot change some situations due to various factors but you can change your mind set and behaviour. The only factor that you have control over is yourself. Many of us fail because we do not want to change our habits and behaviours to accommodate the ever changing environment.

Set Your Goals and Stick with Them

Perhaps the starting point to maximise your potential is goal setting. The importance of goal setting cannot be over emphasised. This is one of the cardinal principles in personal development and growth. When your have set your goals it is important that you stick with them and do not be distracted from achieving them. Persistence and perseverance will be key in achieving your goals. Stay focused and motivated as you pursue your goals.

You should set goals that are realistic and achievable. However, you should not limit yourself to setting goals that will not challenge your ability. You are capable of achieving more than you can image. God made you to be a solution to the world and the way I see it now the world needs more solutions than ever. For more details on goal setting please read click here.

Take Action

Continuous effort! not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking your potential” – Winston Churchill. Maximising your potential requires that you take action. A journey of a thousand miles requires that you make the first step in the right direction. Regardless of what your plans are for your life just get started. Its only when you take action that you begin to realise your potential. Without taking action you will never realise your full potential and a later on maximise it. Taking action is the fuel to living your dream. Once you get started on your journey there will be obstacles that you will encounter. These obstacles should not stop you from re-focusing.

You should make a commitment to achieving your intended life’s purpose. Your success will only be achieved by taking action. Do not let procrastination still your success. Do not let failure stop you from achieving your goals. Instead make a commitment to pursuing your goals and live to enjoy the fruits of your labour. I know for a fact that everything worth while does not come on a silver platter. There is much joy in living your dream without short cuts. I always try to do things right and straight it makes my life much easier and leaves me with a piece of mind. So far so good.

I have made a commitment to ensure that this blog becomes one of the preferred sites in the areas I have fashioned it to be. This commitment is for life. I will continue to write and post articles on this site for as long as I possibly can. I know for a fact that it is helping someone out there and that is the biggest motivation for me. This site is one of my contributions to help change the world for the better.

Conclusion

Consult not your fears, but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you have tried and failed in, but for what is still possible for you to do” – Pope John XXIII. There are many ways that you can use to help maximise your potential, the 8 ways mentioned in both articles are just some of them. I recommend that you develop the habit of reading and have an open mind to learning. Remember that personal development and growth is not a competition but a personal journey to be walked by you alone. Bye for now and  as usual “standout tall and be counted”.

Believe in a hope that a new hope is dawning, believe that your dreams will come true, believe in the promise of brighter tomorrows, begin by believing in you”. The darkest hour of the night is just before dawn. Have you ever noticed that when you are about to break through there is usually a dark period that you experience. Perhaps the roughest patch is actually just before you hit the gold. This is also the period at which many of us, give up on our dreams. I believe that there is no dawn before darkness.

Mourning may come in the night but joy comes in the morning. If you are going through a very difficult patch in your life this I believe is a sign that good things are yet to come. This though does not mean that you stop working hard but instead it is time for you to doubled your efforts.

I have come to realise that every time I start working on a new project, there is a period when things seem not to be making sense or going my way. There is always a time when I feel that everything I try is not just working out. When I started developing this website I gave up for r sometime because things seemed not to be working out for me. This is when I did not even know how to promote my blog site and was receiving very little traffic. When you are in your darkest period and continuously work hard and smart, the dawn will surely come. Do not give-up in this period of darkness is when you should work even harder to learn from your mistakes and ensure that when it is dawn you can reap the rewards and continue to enjoy them for a long time.

Every Good Thing is Worth the Effort

I believe that every good thing is worth your best effort and time investment. If you are to build something of value you will definitely have to invest a lot of your time and energy. I have set myself targets for this site and this is always on my mind to ensure that my readers get what I feel is the best of me. I am always looking to write content on a regular basis as this is the only way to add value to this site. Currently there are close to a hundred articles all written by me and of fairly good value. I must say that the traffic is currently improving and will surely reach the intended targets within a short period of time.

I believe that in a few months time this site will be of great value to my readers and contribute to personal development and self growth topics. One of the targets I have set for the next 12 months is to read a minimum of 12 personal development and growth books, this is in addition to my regular reading. The journey of success is not an easy one but is very enjoyable. I can say am still in the darkest of hours it is not yet dawn for me and my intended life’s purpose. The good thing is I have started off, am no longer in the comfort zone.

Just Get Started and Stay on it

If you have been thinking or have a written down life’s purpose just get started with it. Sometimes we over plan to the extent that our plans begin to scare us and eventually are over taken by events. There are some plans that I have shelved because they have been overtaken by events. Yes its good to plan but please do not over plan. You may adjust your plans as you go along and have a much clearer picture of what you want to achieve. Yes it very important to have a plan but also remember that time waits for no body. Time, patience and perseverance will accomplish all things. You should learn to strike a balance between your planning phase and your implementation process. “In the marathon of life, success calls for dedication to the goal, perseverance, compassion for my fellow man, and faith in God” – John A. Kelley.

In the field of personal development and growth it is very important that you get started with your plans and adjust them as you go along. You will agree with me that the same, is equally true with business plans. Normally the reality tends to be very different from the plan. Only when you get started will you realise that some of the things you had planned for, might need to be adjusted to reality. I personally see nothing wrong with adjusting your plans to conform with what is obtaining on the ground.

We are mostly discouraged when our plans are not matching with reality. This is when you realise that you have reached at the darkest hour. At this point in your life you need to steady your ship weather the storm. At the end of the storm is calmness and it will surely be dawn. I believe that every project does go through storms and therefore, it is very important that you, the captain of the ship remains very focused to navigate through the storm. If you give up you might just be a few mitres away from your break through.

Learn From Your Mistakes and Make Adjustments

It is very important to learn from our mistakes and make the necessary adjustments,  in order for you to shorten your darkest hours. Most of the times  our darkest hours are as a result of our mistakes. Sometimes the dawn is delayed for reasons not known to us but, this should not make us despair for as long as we are sure that we are doing the right things. Mistakes will always be there and are made by everyone including the most disciplined and successful people. The difference however, is how we recover from our mishaps.  I always keep in mind that personal growth is not a competition neither is it a race with anyone. My personal development path is very different from yours.

Life will always throw challenges at us and hence we are prone to make mistakes as we navigate through it. Learn to analyse your failures and refuse to accept them. Your mistakes are just one way of telling you to do things differently. With perseverance and persistence your dawn will surely be upon you for a long time to come. So far my personal growth journey has been a fairly enjoyable one. I keep praying to God that he continues to guide me on this path I have set myself on. “Through perseverance, many people win success out of what seemed destined to be certain failure” -Benjamin Disraeli

Conclusion

I don’t think their is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature” – John D. Rockefeller. Remember that personal development is not a destination but a journey. The darkest hours of your journey are just before dawn. Never give up on your dream and keep on making adjustments until you succeed. Remember that every good thing is worth you time and effort. Good bye for now and “standout tall and be counted” you where created to be a success.
