“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

It is not a secret that the greatest fear we have is often failure. Perhaps it is one of the greatest fears that anyone has ever experienced. Unfortunately you cannot detach failure from success.

Ask even the most successful people if they have ever failed the answer will be a resounding yes. This just goes to show you how important it is to learn from failure.

In my years of being a student of personal development and self growth, the fear of failure has played a major part of my progress. Fear can also be a very big hinderance to ones progress.

The fear of failure to achieve my dreams; the fear of failure  to succeed academically; the fear of failure to provide for my family; are some of the things that have motivated me to work even harder.

Am sure that you can related to the fear of failure with your own life. But, what if I told you that actually failure was a good thing? Albeit Einstein once said that “failure is success in progress.”

Failure has a way of bringing out the best in you. Encountering failure is one of the best ways to help achieve your success. I have discovered that the more you fail the more prepared you are for success.

Look, am not saying that you must be happy when you fail. But you must make sure that you learn from your failures to achieve your success. Take time to analyse what made you fail before moving forward.

Here are a few things that failure can do to you to help you on your road to success.

Failure Keeps You in Check

There is tendency to raise our egos when we are experiencing success. Often times we look down on people that we think are not achieving much as we are.

Well guess what, failure brings you down to earth from cloud nine and makes you realise that you are not a super human. It helps you be in touch with reality. Failure makes you humble when you are in desperate need of humbleness.

I have come to appreciate that being kept in check is very important as you are climbing the ladder of success. When you are experiencing constant success there is a tendency of being enslaved by success, before you know it you will be doing anything, even wrong things, to just make you stay at the top.

But nature has a way of keeping us in check. When you experience failure you realise that life is about ups and downs and that success should not be taken for granted. Failure is a good teacher.

Failure Creates Extraordinary Change

Failure could be a catalyst for both positive or negative change. What grows out of the initial experience with failure is entirely up to what lessons were learned.

In life it is easy to become demotivated and down cast when we experience failure. Instead we must learn to use failure as a springboard to propel and motivate us to succeed. Learn to reset your mind and create the much needed mental change.

Adversity can make even the most talented people refine the roadmap of their destiny, while other equally talented individuals could allow it to derail and kill their dreams.

Most of us know the story of Steve Jobs, that he was fired by Aple in 1985 and many of us know that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. Yet they were both able to bounce back and are considered legends.

I would like to think that if both Steve and Michael had not failed at some point in their lives they would not have gone to achieve what they did. I am sure they learnt a lot from there failures as they pursued their different careers. They did not give up.

In other words failure is necessary to shake things up in our lives. Without which we would be comfortable and not make the much needed quantum leaps.

When you want to make it life you must realise that you will always encounter adversity. The way you handle life’s challenges will determine your level of success.

Failure Can be Informative

One of the best sources of information in my life is in the failures that I have experienced. Look, the fact that you have encountered adversity does not necessarily mean you are a failure. Get up and continue on your journey of life.

In life you must take lessons from every result that does not go your way. Never throw in the towel when things are not going as expected. Instead sit down and learn from them.

Get as much information as you possibly can from your negative results. They are simply telling you, what should be avoided in future. I normally take failure as a learning tool.

If I fail to achieve a goal I list down what I think lead to the failure and try as much as possible to work on correcting the mistake. In doing this I also discover new methods or processes that I had no idea existed. I end up enriching my skills.

Yes, sometimes in the process of making corrections I fail even more. I know that this can be very demotivating and discouraging most of the times, but that’s what life is all about. If you have to be an achiever you need to have patience, persistence and perseverance.

The value of information and lessons learned from your failure is immeasurable.

Conclusion

I know that many of us do not want to be associated with failure. We only want to be associated success. But I can guarantee you that success does not come without challenges. If you are looking to succeed be least assured that you will encounter failure. Failing is a way of preparing us for what lies ahead. Failure is the seed of growth and success.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

You will agree with me that everyone wants to achieve personal success. We all have one common goal in life. To be successful and live a happy and fulfilling life. Everyone of us wants to learn the ropes of being successful.

We all have a desire to make a difference in the world. But many of us struggle to triumph and live a below average life.

I know that many of us have read on the subject of personal success. Many of us, if not all are students of the success subject. Only a few are good students and are successful. While many of us fall in the category of bad students and are struggling.

It is almost impossible to understand the subject of success in one attempt. However, in all the books I have come across there are similarities. The presentations may be different but most of them have similar themes and methods of achieving success.

I believe that there are basically 4 keys that you need to help you achieve your success and these are:-

Write Down Your Goals

Without writing down your own goals, you will be shooting in the air; you will just be drifting and moving along aimlessly; you will be at the bottom of the park which is crowded. To have meaning success you need to write down your goals and start working on them.

This is the only way to measure your success. Your written down goals have to be measurable and specific. I like to personalise them by saying “I earn so much by such a date; I have done this by such a date.”

You are the only person that can use the “I” for yourself. No one else can use it on you. Making such pronouncements helps me to immediately know the exact target and the expected results. It also sets a deadline for me. Being exact with the goal, gives me motivation every time I read it.

Since the goals are measurable, if by the set date, I have not achieved the target, I simply adjust the date accordingly. However, I do not adjust the goal because by then my mind is already conditioned and working to achieve the set goal.

Remember that the goals you set must be those that are in tandem with your overall life’s objectives. They must help you get closer to achieving your life’s intended purpose.

Do not underestimate the power of writing down your goals. I usually carry around a note book with me. Where I write down ideas and many other personal things. Don’t just rely on your memory, write down your goals.

Set a Deadline

Everything in life has a useful shelf life. Some things have a much longer useful shelf life than others. That is why deadlines are important. They make you work extra hard. We are always working to beat dead lines because we all know that time waits for no one.

Setting reasonable deadlines is also key to ensuring that you achieve your success. Reasonable deadlines are those that give you ample time to  be creative, work and stay motivated. I have found that short deadlines can be a source of frustration especially if the goals are not achieved.

Everyone has an optimum point when they give in their best. This is the time when you are full of energy and enthusiasm for life. The time when you can take on any challenge without much of a problem. I believe that this is the best time to ensure that you work extra hard to do the right things.

If you are relatively younger this is the best time to ensure that you put your act together. Stop fooling around. Get to work and you will enjoy the benefits later. I know that a day will come when those energy levels will be a thing of the past. Ask those who are well advanced in age and they will tell you.

The way I set my goals is that they include a deadline in the goal it self so am always in the know if am working beyond my expected deadline date. The thing with having deadlines is that your mind is tuned in and expectant to achieve a result at the set time.

I have noticed that somehow your mind is constantly alert to your deadline and this keeps you working towards achieving or beating the set deadline.

Take Action

They say actions speak louder than words. Yes, its important to set goals and having deadlines. But, setting goals and having deadlines will not achieve anything if you do not take action. Most of our plans die a natural death because we do not act on them. Taking action will ensure that you start moving towards your goals.

Create a habit of taking action that will help you achieve your goals on a daily basis. Take one step at a time. If your goal is to make say US$200,000 by 31 December 2021, decide how you are going to make this money and get started with the process.

We have a habit of just making good pronouncements and leaving everything to God. Look, God is not going to make you rich without you playing your part. God will open an opportunity for you and it is entirely up to you to cease it and make good use of it.

You have a big part to play in God’s picture. I have noticed a tendency especially among us Christians of saying “I receive in Jesus name” when a preacher makes certain pronouncements and we leave it at that.

Yes, receive it and start working on actualising the pronouncement by taking action. Get up and go to work. The bible says “the Lord will bless the work of your hands.” Those who succeed are those who try and take action. It is better to die trying.

Persist Until You Succeed

Success does not come easy and does not come cheap. If it were easy, then we would all have been successful. There would have been no need to talk about it. But we talk about because we know the challenges that people will face on the path of success.

Yes, things will not always go according to your plan, and most of the time they never, but when you persist you will triumph over any challenge. Persistence is key to your success. Those who are successful are those who are resilient and persistent. They know that challenges have to be conquered.

Without persistence you are surely doomed to fail. Because along the way of success you will be met with many challenges. Some of these challenges may look to be insurmountable. Your success will be largely determined by your persistence.

The bigger your goals are the more hard work and persistence you need to have. Be prepared that on your journey to succeed you will be greatly tested. You will need to focus on the things that you have influence on, as these are the things that will help you over come your challenges.

Conclusion

There are many ways to succeed but the above are key for me and they seem to work so far. You can devise what works for you but I recon that they will not be very different from mine. We are all wired to succeed and the ball is in our hands. “Successful people tend to become more successful because they are always thinking about their successes” – Brian Tracy.

The Reward for Your Success Lies in the Next Challenge

Success has many rewards. Walking in success feels great, but rewards last if only you look forward to your next challenge. You will agree with me that when you achieve a goal, when you are successful, you are happy and ecstatic in that moment, you feel like you have conquered the world, you feel over the moon. But as soon as the excitement subsides and reality creeps in, you begin to look for the next challenge to conquer. “Successful people tend to become more successful because they are always thinking about their successes” – Brian Tracy.

The desire to keep enjoying the rewards of your success gets more and more intense, as you achieve your set objectives and goals. The more you succeed the more happiness you enjoy. Seems to me that success brings with it a huge dose of happiness and joy. Those who enjoy a more successful life usually live a happy and fulfilling one. We derive our happiness from our success.

Notice that people who are usually complaining are those who are not working to be successful. They are waiting for success to come to them. The size of your success depends on the depth of your desire.

It is people who do not take action or have given up and think that they will be successful by just waiting and not doing anything about it. Success does not come easy, it takes smart work to achieve it. The more you work at being successful the closer you get at achieving your goals. The closer you get at achieving your success the more happiness you enjoy. I know that sometimes we go through trying moments.

Challenges are not permanent, they are temporal. Challenges are the way that leads to your success. Often times they open up new doors and new perspectives without which it could have been impossible or difficult to achieve our goals. They should not prevent you from accomplishing your destiny,  rather they should propel you even more to achieve your desired results. If you want to enjoy the reward, you must push on and persist when faced with challenges.

Hard Work is not a Guarantee to Success

I know this may not sound or go very well with with many people but I just think that hard work is not a guarantee that you will succeed. Yes, its hard to be successful without hard work but it doesn’t guarantee success. However, it is one of the ways that will ensure your success. Am not discouraging you from working hard. I just want to make a point clear that smart hard work will surely get you the desired results. If you are to achieve your success you must definitely work hard but not only that you should do it smartly.

The following story is a comparison between hard work and smart work. Once upon a time there was a quint little village. It was a great place to live except for one problem. The village had no water unless it rained. To solve this problem once and for all. The village elders decided to putout to bid a contract to have water delivered to the village on a daily basis.

Two people volunteered to bid and take up the task, the elders awarded the contract to both of them, because it was felt that a little competition would help keep the prices lower and ensure a backup supply of water. The first of the two people who won the contract Ed immediately ran out. He bought two galvanised steel buckets and began to run back and forth along the trail to the lake which was a mile away. Ed immediately began making money as he laboured morning to dusk hauling water from the lake with his two buckets. He emptied them into the large holding concrete tank that the village had built.

Each morning he had to getup before the village awoke to make sure there is enough water for the village when they wanted it. It was hard work but he was very happy to be making money and for having one of the two exclusive contracts for this business.

The second winning contractor Bill, disappeared for a while, he was not seen for months, which made Ed even more happy since he had no competition. Ed was making all the money. Instead of buying two buckets to compete with Ed, Bill had written a business plan. He involved various people like, investors and managers and created a corporation. He retained six months later with a construction crew.

Within a year his team had built a large volume stainless steel pipe that connected the village to the lake. At the grant opening celebration Bill announced that his water would be 75% cheaper and that it was more cleaner. Bill knew about the about complaints of the quality of Ed’s water, he also announced that he could supply the commodity 24hrs a day 7 days a week. Ed could only deliver water on the weekdays as he did not work on weekends.

The village cheered and quickly ran for the faucet at the end of Bills line. In order for Ed to compete he immediately bought two more buckets lowered his charge by 75%, employed more people to haul water on a daily basis. Bill realised that if this village needed water then more villages needed it. He rewrote his business plan and expanded to other villages who quickly connected to his line. Bill could supply more volumes of water to more people at a cheap price and therefore, made more money than his competitor. I will end the story here. Now ask yourself who was smarter between Bill and Ed? Who would you rather be?

Recognise the Advantages of Planning

The above story about Bill and Ed brings out a few things that can be learned and applied to our daily lives. Firstly this is a story about solving a problem that was encountered by the village. Which I believe that our lives are meant to solve the problems that are faced by the world. Bill demonstrated the advantages of planning.

How we go about solving these challenges is largely determined by the way we think. That is why for me, the most important asset we have is our mind. Ed seems to have had a head start in solving the water crisis that was faced by the small village. Indeed he succeeded not until Bill came up with a much better plan and solution. I do not think Ed had a thorough thought about how he was going to provide the solution. His aim was probably just having the contract to earn him money.

For me Bill demonstrated that having a goal is not just good enough. We must take time to plan and start working our plan to achieve the intended target and this takes time. In as much as Bill offered a much better solution than Ed am sure he must have given it more thought before going ahead to implement it. Bill’s plan involved investors and managers. It took Bill more than a year before he started reaping from his labour.

Bill’s plan also demonstrates that in our life’s journey we need people who can add value to our lives. People who are going to help us achieve our goals. If you are planning to achieve your goals you need to identify the right people who are going to help you achieve your goals.

By Ed employing more people to haul water from the lake, he demonstrated a lack of learning. He refused to embrace change and instead of learning from the new technology of transporting water he stuck to his old methods. Very often in our lives we do not want to embrace change.

Conclusion

Personal development and growth is a mix of things. I believe that self growth does not come easy it takes time and requires us to take small steps everyday of our lives. If you want to enjoy your life you must always be looking forward to your next challenge. The reward of overcoming a challenge should always motivate you to looking forward to the next challenge for this is the cycle of life. Happiness is the highest level of success. Enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Life is Like a Seed that Needs to be Nurtured

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but, by the seeds you plant” – Robert Louis Stevenson. Our attitude about the future depends on our ability to see the future. Each of us has the inherent ability to dream, design, and experience the future through our hopeful imagination. Whatever the mind has the capacity to imagine, it also has the ability to create. All human beings carry a seed to create. They say all growth is from within. You see we all carry the seed to succeed and grow in whatever we put our mind on. In other words life is like a seed. If you look around, you will realise that there is nothing that was not created. Believe it or not, everything you see was first conceived as a seed.

The question you might be asking is if we all carry the seed of success why is it that only a few people are successful? Well the biggest challenge with most of us is that we let the seed go to waste. We do not take good care of it. You see for any seed to grow, it must be nurtured and nourished. This is the process that we do not want to undertake. Nurturing and nourishing a seed takes a lot of time, discipline and is hard work.

Recently I started a small backyard garden. I have been growing plants from seeds. It has taken me close to 3 months to grow pepper, from seed to now almost harvest time. I have not yet harvested it and anything could go wrong before then. So not until we have enjoyed the first harvest, we have not yet enjoyed the benefits of our labour.

I believe that life is like a tree. It starts as a seed and grows into a tree. Any seed has the potential to grow into a tree. However, whether the seed will grow into a tree and produce good fruit or not will depend on the quality of the nutrients. See for any seed to sprout and grow it needs dirt or better still soil otherwise if left open the sun will burn it. Now soil contains nutrients that are necessary for the growth of the seed. I believe it takes a lot of energy for the small seed to push it’s self up from under ground to the surface. And better still it has to adapt to the different weather patterns and conditions to grow and start bearing good fruit.

Nurture and Nourish that Seed

Whatever that you want to do in life is like a seed. If you want to be successful at whatever, you need to understand that it takes hard and smart work to achieve it. Look, “somewhere in the Kafue National Park every morning arises an impala that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Lion or it will be eaten and die that day, in the same National Park arises a Lion that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Impala or it will starve and die that day”. The moral of the story is that no matter what you do in life you have to run.

No matter who you are you have to run. The running symbolises the work that you have to do on a daily basis. If you’ve had the opportunity to watch national geographics and observed how both the Impala and the Lion run. You will realise that they do not just run in a straight line.

Life will throw things at you. It is therefore, important that you learn how to meander throw those obstacles. Believe me learning to meander through life is not easy. We are constantly learning and adapting to life on a daily basis. If you are not changing with time then, you are not improving and are most likely to remain behind. It could be the reason why you have stagnated in life.

The dirt or soil symbolises the hard work. This is the hardest part. To make the soil more fertile and conducive for the seed, takes learning and discipline. This helps you build character. Now that you have character with time and endurance you will have nurtured and nourished your ideas and will give birth to your plans or project. Before you know it you will be reaping the fruits of your labour. The hardest part however, is the nurturing and nourishing part. I believe that every good thing takes time. Most of us do not want to endure the soil. We do not want the dirt being thrown at us. We want to skip from seed to fruit.

Allow God to Be at the Centre of Your Plans

The bible says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29. This is huge for me. To me it is clear that what ever plans we have before we implement them we must put them before God. Ultimately the Lord knows what he has planned for us. It is therefore, imperative that we conform with the plans of the lord for our lives. Allowing God to lead is just wonderful. Yes sometimes we miss it and get off target and yes sometimes things do not go as we want them. The bigger picture is that God knows what is best for our us. Am human just like you and sometimes I question God when things are not going as I expect them.

The comforting thing is that God always makes a way where there seems to be no way. Allow me to say that God is a teacher and accepts anyone as they are. The beauty with following God is that it is at your own free will. I have made mistakes and some of the things am not proud of. But I know that he accepts me just the way I am.

Conclusion

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” – Proverbs. Do not let those plans; those seeds that you have go to waste. You have a duty or rather a responsibility to ensure that you do not deprive the world of them. Lastly we should should learn to give thanks and praise to the Lord because he gives us the opportunity to live and go on with our lives. Thank you and remember to standout tall and be counted.

To Change is to Be Progressive

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer. Change comes from within. To ignore change is to accept defeat. Successful people are those who embrace change. Without change there is no meaningful success. I guess change is an agent of success. Before success, comes change. If you intend to succeed at anything you are involved with, you cannot expect to achieve different results if you are doing the same thing’s that make you fail.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to achieving our goals, be it personal; organisational and indeed financial, is a luck of change in our attitude. John F. Kennedy once said “change is the law of life and those who look only to the past and the present are certain to miss the future”.

I have failed before, actually many times and I keep failing on a daily basis. One of my latest shortcomings is not being able to fulfill the challenge to publish 29 articles in the month of February as promised. Have I given up on the challenge? No. The shortfall taught me to set reasonable and achievable targets. It was a worthwhile target but, one that needed a lot of time and dedication to implement. However, I reserve it for the future. I now know what adjustments are needed to make, for a challenge of that magnitude and nature.

Learn From Every Challenge

There are many lessons I took from the previous challenge. However, I will mention just a few here. The biggest one being that I needed a lot of time and dedication. But during the implementation period I was faced with a lot of time constraints. I could not devote enough of my time to writing articles, as there were other more pressing matters to be attended to. This is not to negate the importance I attach to this website. In fact the plan for this website is to grow it to be the number one stop for personal development and growth materials. It is more of a long term than short term project. However, the other matters were short term and more of a physical nature and they really drained my energy.

I needed to come up with a practical way of article writing, regularly or better still on a daily basis. Unfortunately I stayed in my comfort zone. I now need to move out of my comfort zone if I have to fulfill the vision and plan for this website. It is also my plan to write and post articles that I feel add value to my readers. In other words I write content for people not for the search engines.

With the lessons learned this far I hope to begin to show that movement out of my comfort zone. I now know without a shadow of doubt that I do not expect to achieve my goals without a radical change.

The other lesson learned is that I lost my focus. They were times that I could have written something but lacked total concentration. To write valuable content you need to be relaxed and focused and let your thoughts flow on paper. My friends who are artists will agree with me that you need to be focused and inspired when writing a song lateron sing it.

You Have the Capacity to Change

Do not doubt your ability to change. We all have the capacity and ability to change. If you want to achieve anything, you will need to change and adapt your ways and mentality to winning ways. I believe that there is no short cut to achieving our dreams. Hard work or rather smart work is the key. The bible says “do not despise the days of your small beginnings” – Zechariah 4:10. A journey of a 1000 miles starts with one step in the right direction. Emphasis is the first step. The first step is as important as the last step.

You will not move a mile if you do not take the first step. Every step that you take counts towards your goal. Every small change that you make is important. You have the capacity to make those small adjustments and before you know it you will have made bigger adjustments.

Any change that you make is progressive. Every one of us can be progressive by changing one thing at a time, no matter how small. I know for a fact that all of us have things we want to change. There is no perfect individual on this earth. One of the many mistakes we make is wanting to succeed without changing our ways. I find this totally impossible. I believe that success comes with change.

How do we Prepare for the Future

There are many factors that should be considered when preparing for our future. Some of them are beyond our control. However, we must always endeavour to change those things that are in our control. Brian Tracy says “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you”. I believe that we all have a chance at succeeding. I also believe that life gives each and everyone of us a second chance.

A lot of things that will help shape our future are within your own grasp. Most of us miss the opportunity to help shape our own future through foolish decision and end up making mistakes that come to haunt us. I know that sometimes the mistakes we make can be very fatal. But, remember that we all make mistakes and the most successful people have learnt from their own mistakes.

The most important ingredient to success is to make the change and stop making the same mistakes over and over. Decide today to make the change and start moving towards a better life. It is never too late to make the change. Start by accepting that you are responsible for your own life. Acknowledge that you owe it to yourself to live a better life.

Stop blaming your parents for what they never gave you; your government for the limited opportunities; your siblings for not sharing or indeed your spouse. You are totally responsible for everything that you do. Go out there and conquer the world.

I strongly believe that there is more than enough wealth in the world to go round. If we all played our part we could help change the world for the better. The world today is short of so many things. You are the solution to some of the challenges being faced. Dig deep within you and unleash that solution that the world is so craving for. Dr. Myles Monroe says “the richest place on earth is the grave yard”. Because buried there, are dreams and ideas that were never realised.

Conclusion

If we don’t change we don’t grow, if we don’t grow we aren’t really living” – Gail Sheehy. In order for us to make meaningful achievements we must set goals. As a human being you should have your own personal development goals; relationship goals; financial goals and above all spiritual goals. We must never forget that God loves us all regardless of our ethnicity and what our past holds. As I conclude and in view of the current outbreak of the COVID-19, I encourage you to keep our medical personnel and leaders in prayers. We can also play a very important part by staying at home and keeping a social distance. Let us all standout and be counted in the fight against this pandemic. GOD BLESS.

Human beings by nature want to have easy things in life. Most of us are full of envy when we see our friends driving beautiful fancy cars and living a seemingly comfortable and enjoying life in general.

How we long to arrive at the so-called “easy life” destination without hard work. Yet it does not come.

The lazier we become the further away we drift from the good life. Yes we can all achieve what we want and I believe, that is what God intended for us all. But achieving our hearts desires requires us to take bold and right steps; to make bold decisions that require a mindset change.

Personal development and self-growth requires a change in our mind and belief systems. If you are to achieve your goals, there is no doubt that your attitude and mindset have to be in sync.

Perhaps this could be a great start for you to set your year’s objectives and goals. The key thing is to start somewhere. Start now, plan to succeed at whatever you are intending to do. I believe that everything that is worthwhile is worth your effort.

If everything in life was easy to achieve or get, then life would have been very boring. Our bodies were designed to work, both physically and mentally.

I have discovered that nature is neutral. God has blessed us with the same environment, we all have equal access to the environment.

No one on this earth can claim to have more or less than 24hrs a day, I have never heard of anyone who has more or less air.

We all experience the same conditions at a given time. We all tap into the same universal resources. We are all products of the same universe. We were all created in the image of God.

The difference, however, is how efficient and effectively we use these abundant resources that God has given us.

The question that one may ask is how come life seems to be easy for some people? Well, I believe that there is nothing that comes as easy as it seems and let me just say that life is never easy.

All good things come at a cost. You must be willing to pay the price before you begin to reap and enjoy the rewards. I know for sure that for you to live a happy and successful life you must be willing to pay the price and be disciplined enough to delay gratification.

Most of us want to live in the now and not in the future. We do not want to delay gratification.

Even the so-called easy life is not as easy as it seems. It may look easy from the outside but it is not what it seems.

I remember during my earlier working days in life when we used to envy our friends who worked for bigger and “better” corporate organisations.

We all would be saying “if only I worked for that organisation life would be easy”. Yet the people working for the same organisations would be looking elsewhere.

Condition Your Mind to Start Working

You will agree with me that everything that is good is worth working for. It feels very nice when you have worked for something and are enjoying the benefits.

It gives me much pleasure when I have achieved a target. I have a sense of joy and my mind is always positive to even work harder. It is, therefore, very important to set goals that are achievable in order that you keep a positive mental attitude.

Failure should, however, not be an obstacle it should be viewed as a challenge to be overcome. It should be a learning process.

Every day of our lives we are constantly pushing ourselves to achieve targets. You may not realise it but every day of your life you are achieving a target this could either be positive or negative the choice is yours.

You need to prepare your mind for success. Preparing your mind for success is important as this will also allow you to grow with your success.

This will require you to take deliberate steps to condition your mind. If need be, you may have to change your friends or get out of some bad relationships. Yes I mean change your friends.

Not all relationships are actually beneficial some can be very detrimental. You may also need to move to a new location.

Over time I have personally had to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle. I have had to reduce my inner circle. This has helped me a great deal.

I am more focused on what I do. Believe me, some relationships can be a distraction to your progress, the sooner you identify them and make the necessary change the better.

It may be difficult for you to make drastic changes right now but if you are serious about shaping your future, find a way to adjust. Do not allow friendship to hinder your progress.

Your mind plays a key role in determining your overall progress in life. What you feed your mind on a daily basis is very important. The Bible says “for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

If you hang around people with a positive mental attitude you are most certainly going to have a positive attitude the opposite is also true.

Everything that we do or want to do in life begins in our minds. Our minds are, therefore, the workshop or the engine room for everything.

Do you realise that everything that is made by man was first conceived in the mind? This is how important our mind is.

Apart from hanging around with positive-minded people, you could also start reading books and listening to audiotapes that will have a positive impact on your mind.

Make a deliberate habit to change your mind and ensure that you take action everyday.

There is No Easy Route

Once you have started pursuing your goals learn to be patient with yourself. You will keep on falling and failing.

Every new skill or habit takes time to execute with minimum effort. Keep learning from your mistakes and be open-minded to make the necessary changes.

I have noticed that most of the young generation are in the habit of trying to cut corners especially in the area of financial freedom. They want to start climbing the tree from the top instead of learning the ropes.

Believe me, it is not worth it. I am yet to find an easy route to success that is not short-lived. Ever since I embarked on doing what I love most it has not been easy.

Yes, I enjoy it but the journey has not been an easy one. I have enjoyed both dry moments and good ones. What keeps me going is the fact that I enjoy writing and believe that these articles are of help to someone.

I am still very much a work in progress but impressed with my own progress so far.

From my studies and personal experience on the subject of self-growth and improvement, I have learned that cutting corners only yields short-lived happiness.

If you want long-lasting happiness resolve to do the right things. You will have a peace of mind for the rest of your life. The small things that I have achieved so far through hard work make me feel over the moon.

They may be small but they actually count a lot to me. After all, success is the sum total of the small things we accomplish on a daily basis.

I am not in any competition or race with anybody and therefore, will move at my own pace.

Like I always say if something is worth the salt then it is worth your sweat. Everything is always difficult for the first time.

Conclusion

Everything in life is hard before it’s easy. They say that it takes 21 Days to develop a new habit. If habits can be learned then they can be unlearned.

You can take advantage of this theory and change your non-productive habits to those that will in the process help you grow as an individual.

Having the knowledge that our minds are very critical to our personal development and self-improvement it is therefore very important that you learn to guard your mind and heart.

The Bible says “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” – Philippians. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” – Proverbs.

Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

We all have formed an image of ourselves in one way or another. I have been doing a personal study of my performance in relation to my personal image.

The discovery has been phenomenon. I have discovered that the way I view myself has a direct relationship with my task performance and my general life output.

I believe that this is true for most of us. We live our lives based on our self-image. We form our self-image based on many factors especially external ones.

If your self-image is that of a failure or of a loser, believe me, you are most likely living a failed or losing life. However, the opposite is also true.

When am carrying out a task and my personal thoughts are negative the results are also not very encouraging. Sometimes I have spent hours and hours writing articles only to realise that I have not done a good job.

This happens mostly when am having negative feelings. These articles never find their way on my website.

It is, therefore, important that you create a positive self-image if you have to improve your performance.  Having a positive self-image is one of the key factors for enhancing your personal growth.

A positive self-image will accelerate your performance levels and speed up your goal attainment process. I know that there are times when you just feel negative about something, it is absolutely okay to feel that way.

The key thing is how quickly you turn your negative thoughts into positive ones. I have written enough articles on this website that sometimes when I feel demotivated, I start going through some of them, and boom my mind is filled with positive thoughts.

I have also gotten inspiration for writing even more articles just from reading motivational books. I am not blowing my own trumpet but just merely stressing the point of reading motivational articles.

If you have always had negative thoughts about yourself image, I encourage you to read the bible for inspiration. There are many books out there but, the bible is the book of life. It is your manual for life.

When you read the bible, you begin to see how precious you are in the eyes of God. Failure is mostly associated with our negative self-image.

You have the capacity to change and shape your destiny if only you can change your personal self-image. Change begins with you.

If you want to improve your performance and live the life you’ve always wanted, you must make the mental change to believe that you are the best at what you do and begin to take action.

You are responsible for your life and should learn to take full responsibility for your actions and current situation. If you are an adult you should not expect a bailout.

Just take responsibility and begin to act on making things better for yourself. “The moment of enlightenment is when a person’s dreams of possibilities become images of probabilities” – Vic Bruden.

How Do You Change Your Self-image?

This is perhaps the starting point to your personal growth. You, alone are responsible for creating your self-image.

It’s like in a marriage, what you tell your relatives and friends about your spouse is what they will know about her.  If you disrespect her, believe me, they will also do the same.

What you call your spouse in public is what they will call her. So if you want people to respect her you will always endeavour to tell them positive things about her.

Those of you who are married must take this advice seriously. You will respect her in public regardless of the differences you had at home.

It’s those that do not value their marriages who will talk negatively about their spouses in public. Yes, every marriage has its own unique problems and we do not want to bring them out in public.

The same is true with how you view and portray yourself to people. The more positive and confident you show people the more positive and confident people will see you.

But this begins with yourself seeing the many positive things and qualities you possess. Take a sheet of paper and just write out 20 things you think you are.

You will be amazed at what you will write down. Yes, we fail but that does not mean we should not try again. The most successful people fail many times before they succeed.

The less successful people give up once they encounter a challenge. Failure to me is merely an obstacle to be overcome. Life would be very boring without challenges.

Many of the times when we encounter challenges it simply means that there is an opportunity to develop a solution for the challenge.

If you keep trying and trying things differently you will surely succeed at what you are doing.

Fill your mind with positive self-images about your self and sooner than later your mind will change the way you look at yourself.

Create a deliberate habit of saying “I like my self” repeatedly every time you feel low emotionally. When you wake up in the morning ask God to help you focus on the positive things in life.

Refuse the spirit of negativity and put on the image of positive thinking. Believe that you can complete a task with better results and make time to develop your skill set.

Have an open mind to learning new things. Always see failure as a challenge and refuse to accept it.

Surely changing your self-image will make you feel much much happier and definitely help to improve your performance.

When you feel good about yourself you will perform much, much better. After all, what you want most in life is the feeling of happiness.

Know that you will come across people that will say unpleasant things about you. But you have the ultimate control to either accept or reject them, and besides, we all have skeletons in our closets.

No one on this earth can claim to be pure. It is also beneficial to hang around people that have a positive image of you as this helps to keep you motivated.

When you create a positive image about yourself, somehow it flows from you and attracts the right people. Make a deliberate policy to evaluate your friends, some of them may not be very beneficial to your personal growth.

Maintain the Discipline of Doing What is Right

You know, there is a good feeling when you do something that is right. The feeling is just awesome. I would not be wrong to say that we all possess the ability to do the right thing.

There is just something nice when we feel that, what we have done is good. All well-meaning people have a conscious that tells us about what we are doing.

I usually go with my first thoughts or rather my instincts. If am doing something that am not sure of its effect on other people, I back out unless am convinced otherwise.

This is not to say that I have never done wrong things before, No. Believe me, I have and, have learned to take responsibility for them, and help to correct them if I can.

I am not ashamed to go back and say am sorry let me correct my wrongdoing. I have developed the discipline of doing what I think and feel is right especially for my success.

Self-discipline is one of the most difficult traits, but an important one for personal development and growth. We keep fighting every day to do the right things.

Our minds are always telling us to do the easier things in life than do the most difficult and important things first. Like delayed gratification, we always want to spend money rather than save for the future.

I will be honest, I also struggle on a daily basis to do the easy things and forget the difficult and necessary tasks. But tell you what, every time I conquer this edge, there is a feeling of joy and satisfaction.

Developing the discipline of doing the right things first is a good attribute to helping in improving your performance.

Doing the right things always makes you feel motivated and proud of yourself.

Society lacks men and women who can stand up to do the right things even in the advent of criticism.

It seems to me that many of us have fallen prey to doing what is popular or trending for fear of being called bad names.

We would rather be on the same side with the majority even when we know deep down our hearts that what we have done is wrong.

Conclusion

Believe in yourself” – Unknown. The essence of personal self-image is very critical to personal growth as it is the centre of your performance attribute.

We should try as much as possible to create a positive self-image if we have to enjoy our lives. Most of the people who have a negative self-image are low performers.

If you are in a leadership position take a closer look at your subordinate’s performance reports, you will realise that one of the major factors of low performers is a result of a negative self-image.

The higher performers are more usually confident and have a positive self-image.

You should consider helping those that are low performers as this will inadvertently reflect on your leadership skills and enhance your performance as a team.

I hope you have found this article useful and thank you most sincerely for reading up to the end. Good luck and “standout tall and be counted”.

Goals and goal setting

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

In the absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily acts of trivia.” ~ Unknown. Goal setting is the one activity that sets apart achievers from those who are surviving or just getting by. By goal setting we are enabled to create the future we want to happen rather than live the future that others want to happen. Goal setting enables us to take greater charge of our daily lives.

In this article I outline some of the ways to help set reachable goals.

Strengths

You can base your goals on anything you want, although the chances of your success are significantly increased if firstly you base them on your strengths and secondly on your opportunities in the field your are currently under taking. It is very important to know your strengths and weakness before undertaking any goal setting venture as this will help you decide what naturally flows from within you.

Do some self research such as a personal SWOT, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. When conducting a personal research note the following:-

  • Your strengths are the things you are good at and enjoy doing. Using your strengths for goal setting will usually provide some sort of motivation as you go on.
  • Weaknesses are the things you have to do, but these are things you dislike or make slow progress at them.
  • Opportunities are the external circumstances you expect to arise, create or already exist and expect them to aid you moving towards your set goals.
  • Threats are those external circumstances that are very unlikely to help you move forward and would probably set you backwards.

Whilst we must keep on working to improve our weaknesses and keep a close eye on the threats it is very important that our goal setting should be based on our strengths and opportunities.

Keep your dreams alive

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt. The greatest achievement was, at first, and for a time, but a dream. You must realize that all who have achieved great success first did a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, wishing, DESIRING, and PLANNING before they succeeded.  You may as well know, also that every great leader, from the dawn of civilization down to the present, was and is, a dreamer. One of the factors that restrict many people from reaching their full potential is the belief that we should not aim for big dreams. Yet all evidence for most successful people is that they have kept their big dreams alive and have fully pursued them without giving up. It is very important to keep your dreams alive and to pursue them without giving up.

I have learnt to break down my dreams into smaller achievable goals and to always make changes that improve my chances of achieving them. Remember that big dreams come with greater responsibility and that “big goals attract big resources like a magnet”. Having dreams makes my life more interest to live. Yes sometimes days do not turn out as planned but what is life without challenges? I do not give up just because the day has not turned out as hoped for, but rather I focus on the positive things that come my way.

Abraham Lincoln dreamed of freedom for the black slaves, he kept his dream alive and put it into action, and barely missed living to see a united North and South translate his dream into reality. That is how important it is to keep your dreams alive and acting on them.

Write down your goals

The best way to keep your dreams alive is to write them down and read them every often to constantly remind you of the bigger picture. There is something different when you write down your dreams as opposed to just keeping them in your head. DO NOT depend on your memory alone. I have a note book that has all the dreams intend to achieve; this is like the blue print of my life. Written goals have a way of transforming wishes into wants, can’ts into cans, dreams into plans and plans into reality.

The act of writing clarifies your goals and helps you keep a record of your dreams and goals. Writing down your dreams acts as a commitment to your goals. This will eventually aid you when you are doing your daily goal setting activities as these will be tailored to the overall bigger picture. You can also add reasons to your written down goals so as to give you motivation and help check your progress on a regular basis. So don’t just think it INK IT. One of the best aid I have discovered is the habit of daily goal setting.

Pursuing your goals with passion and desire

The driving force behind your goal achievement is your passion and desire. You must desire your goals constantly, vividly and with a burning passion, knowing that you have already achieved them and are now working towards realising them. When you do, it is almost impossibly to fail at what you are aiming for. The importance of pursuing our goals with passion cannot be over emphasised that is, why it is most wise and very cardinal that we set our goals based on our strengths and what we enjoy doing. Napoleon Hill in his book Think and Grow Rich says that “when a man really DESIRES a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win”.

Conclusion

Goal setting is central to maximising and realising our potential because it enables us create something unique and new in our lives it also allows us to feed our goal oriented brain and puts us in control of our future. Set your goals as big as you can this will help challenge and stretch your capacity and ability. There are many ways that can be use to help with goal setting the above are just but some of the ways I have personally devised to help me in my endeavours. Remember to also build your goals around your strengths and the things that you enjoy doing. “standout tall and be counted”.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing positive knowledge” ~ Albert Einstein. If you are a person who wants to achieve something worthwhile in your life, you must have set yourself some goals. Then you should ask yourself what drives you to your goal achievement? If you have not set your goals, well this is about the time you should reflect and set them.

[adrotate banner=”2″]

Achieving your goals is largely a matter of your attitude which can either be positive or negative. Your attitude has an influence on the outcome of your success. We know that you become what you think about and what you think about helps shape your character; and forms your habits. It is these habits; these small little things that you do or fail to do every day that move you towards or far from achieving your written down life’s intended purpose. My personal goal achievement is largely moved by the positive small little things that I have to do every day.

If we know that having a positive state of mind has a big influence on our goal achievement then it is important we also know how to make and keep our minds positive and focused. Here’s what I suggest.

Having a positive mental attitude
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude” ~ Thomas Jefferson. This is perhaps the key to your success. We all know that a positive mental attitude is a requisite to the success of your goal achievement. I am pretty sure that you have been told before to have a positive mental attitude if you have to succeed at what you are doing. Studies have been made to show that 85% of everything that a person would accomplish or obtain, be it finances; prestige; status and recognition after they left Harvard University would be based on their attitude and that only 15% would be based on their aptitude and ability.

If you have to be successful in life then you cannot avoid having a positive mental attitude. You see successful goal achievement begins with having the right frame of mind. There is no way you will succeed if you are always negative about what you are doing. Cultivate or rather develop a positive mind towards your life and all things will naturally fall in to place according to your plans. I have noticed that every time I expect something to happen I always develop an attitude towards achieving my expectation.

Notice also that if you expect something to turnout well, you will have a positive attitude and if you expect something to turnout otherwise you will have a negative attitude. The only explanation I can give is that there is a correlation ship between expectation and attitude. Therefore attitude is a product of expectation. Your attitude is largely dependent on your expectation. You will agree with me that winners have a tendency of manufacturing positive expectations in advance before the actual outcome.

I guess that the expectation of something happening has a direct influence on attitude. I would encourage you therefore, to live a life of positive expectation. Always expect something you planned for to happen. This is the only way you will have a positive mental attitude that will help drive you towards your goal achievement. “If you don’t like something, change it, if you can’t change it, change your attitude” ~ Maya Angelou.

Having a success mindset
If you advance confidently in the direction of your dreams and endeavour to live the life which you have imagined, you will meet with success unexpectedly in common hours” ~ Henry David Thoreau. Perhaps the key question here would be; what is a success mindset? Having a success mindset is seeing; living and feeling success even before it is achieved. Remember that all achievement begin with the conditioning of your mind. Having a success mindset will surely help you in your goal achievement.

When you condition your mind in such a way that you think, feel and live success, believe me your goal achievement will be sooner rather than later. Even just the feeling of happiness and wellbeing is enhanced. Having a success mindset just takes you to another level. I don’t know what it is you want to achieve in your life, but whatever it is tune you mind and begin to see and feel yourself successful. Image yourself living the life of your dreams; the feeling and the emotion this bring to are so real. This will surely motivate you to work even harder for your goal achievement.

However, be aware that having a success mindset does not necessarily mean you should stop working. I believe that there is no substitute for hard work. “There is no secret to success it the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure” ~ Colin Powell.

Overcome negative habits
Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny” ~ Frank Outlaw. Remember that our daily habits contribute immensely towards our goal achievement. It is therefore, very important that you know or rather overcome negative habits that have a detrimental effect towards your goal achievement.
[adrotate group=”1″]
It may be of help to know that your brain has two sides the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious is the part that takes in data from the environment and processes it. It is the link between the inside world and the outside world. The conscious is the thinking part of the brain. The conscious mind can only hold one thought at a time positive or negative; yes or no. Whenever the conscious mind has made a decision the subconscious mind accepts it instantly and acts on it. Decisions can be negative of positive.

The subconscious mind stores the processed data from the conscious mind. They say the conscious mind is the gate keeper for the subconscious mind. You will notice that most of the habits we have developed are acted upon unconsciously. Different people will react differently in the same environment. This is dependent on what the subconscious mind has been fed with. I can safely say that all out habits sit on the subconscious mind. It is therefore very important to guard what we feed the subconscious mind.

I know for sure that some negative habits are hard to get rid of. But through persistent training of the conscious you can change the perception of the subconscious mind. Scientist say the mind does not sleep even when the body is asleep. This only illustrates how powerful the mind is and what role it plays in our goal achievement. The value of the subconscious is enormous; it inspires us; it warns us; it furnishes us with names, facts and scenes from the storehouse of memory.

Conclusion
Personal success and development cannot be achieved with a negative mind set. Having a positive mind set is one of the key elements to moving towards your goal achievement. We should all endeavour to cultivate a positive mind if we have to achieve our success. “Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of the blue print of your ultimate achievements” ~ Napoleon Hill. Until next time remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

“Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit” ~ Conrad Hilton.

You may have asked yourself this old age question. Why are other people more successful than others; why is it that some people make more money, have more friends, enjoy a better life than others; why do other people derive more satisfaction from life than others?

Studies have been done and lots of money spent seeking the answers to these questions. I have been doing my own personal study of successful men and women. The revelations have been phenomenal and interesting.

I know that the subject of success is very wide. I also know that there is no formula to success and that it is very difficult to measure success.

However, after my little study I realized that all successful men and women have about 5 major habits or rather principles in common.

They practice these differently and have variations in their applications but, you can be rest assured that no matter what variations they apply, these 5 principles or habits will be listed amongst their daily activities.

It is therefore, imperative and important for you and me that are striving to succeed, to incorporate these five principles into our daily lives.

Thank God, we do not have to reinvent the wheel, studies and documentation is there to provide us with a guide on how other people have succeed in their lives.

Remember that there is no defined formula for success. What works for someone may not necessarily produce the same desired results for you.

So please note that you are not competing with anyone. Success is a personal journey.

Do not measure and compare your achievements with anyone else. In my quest to help change the world for the better I do not consider ‘competition’ as a threat, I rather treat it as complementary.

For me if anyone is doing what I think will help change the world they are most welcome, they are not competition but we complementing each other. I have presented these 5 principles in no particular order.

The Habit of Saving

The number one principle is the habit of saving. The saying “Rome was not built in one day” holds a lot of water.

If you want to build up riches it is common sense that you must learn to save from your current income. Learn the art of spending within what you have. Avoid spending from your future income.

The discipline of saving cannot be compared to any. You must be like the ant, it knows when to store food to be used for the future.

You must know that you will not always have good health or that at some day the energy you have now will be a thing of the past. It is therefore, important that you start saving and investing your money wisely.

Investing your money should be in investments that you understand and of a long term nature. Do not invest your money in something you do not understand unless you have professional advice.

Most financially successful people will tell you that the habit or rather the principle of saving is very important. You should learn to live not for now but for tomorrow unless you have no tomorrow.

Can you imagine how much you would have raised after 20 years if you saved only $100 per month from your pay check. You can accelerate the time it takes you to raise a million dollars by half if only you can defer gratification to a later date. This does not mean however, that you should not enjoy your wealth.

The principle of saving is probably the number one factor in determining the extent to which you will succeed. Be it financially or in any other field you are engaged in.

Remember that saving is not just about saving finances; saving can be in any form. I have learnt to save especially in the area of my finances.

Personally I save a minimum of about 20% of my current pay cheque; I intend to increase this as my income increases.

The best way to get started is to start saving in small bits. If you are working you could open up a savings account and ask your employer to split your salary.

The discipline of saving requires that you cut down on many unnecessary expenditure.

Some areas you could look at are how much you spend on talk time; entertainment; deferring to buy a new car instead buy a second hand; transportation and many other things you know are not necessary.

Time Management

Man Looking at Time

If there is one thing that God has given us all in equal measure it is time.

We all have 24hrs per day; 7 days per week and so forth and so on. There is no one on planet earth who can claim to have less time than the other.

Yet with the same amount of time some people seem to succeed than others. One of the magic wands to success is the principle of time management.

If you are to succeed at whatever, you are doing it is very important that you learn how to manage your time efficiently.

Most successful men and women have mastered the principle of time management. They say time is money. I say time is more than money, once lost it cannot be recovered this is how precious the commodity of time is.

I have learned from Brian Tracy’s “How to master your time” the technique of writing down my daily goals. This simple principle of daily goal setting is a life changer.

In this technique you are required to write down and plan your day. Organize it in such a way that you start with what is more important moving down to what is less important.

Your daily goal setting is best done the previous day and reviewed at the end of your day. Stick to your daily goal setting principle religiously for better results. It surely is a wonderful tool to use.

In everything that we do time is of the essence. Most successful people have realized that time needs be managed and managed very well.

You will agree with me that time is a precious commodity especially for example during school examinations. The difference between passing and failing an exam could just be how you managed your time.

If you have to take a giant step towards success you must be time conscious. If you are in business marketing, then you know what it is to learn how to manage your time very well.

You can learn more about time management by purchasing Brian Tracy’s “How to master your time” CD’s from this store.

Hard Work, Perseverance & Persistence

“Hard work pays off” ~ unknown. There is no substitute for hard work. Successful people work hard smartly.

There is no point in working hard for the wrong results. If you have to achieve above average results you need to start working hard and doing it smartly.

Every successful person will tell you how hard working they are. The difference between more successful people and less successful people is the level of hard work and perseverance.

Most of us give up at the point when we are just about to break through. The most successful people will work hard even when they fail, they will get up and continue.

With perseverance, hard work and persistence comes success. There is no sweet without sweat.

You will be amazed at how much time successful people spend working. Most of them will tell you that they wake up very early in the morning and they are the last ones to go to bed.

I have noticed that most of us want to have it easy. We let our bodies dictate our way of living.

There is no difference in terms of brain capacity between those that are successful and those that are not. The only difference I have noted is that those that make it are the ones that are disciplined.

They have trained themselves to do that which is important first, even when it feels awkward to be done.

They have the discipline to follow their daily goal settings. If the goal says to wake up at 05:00hrs in the morning and exercise before anything else they do just that even when the body still wants to sleep. This kind of discipline is the one that makes the difference.

Most people fail because of a lack of discipline; lack of hard work; lack of perseverance and persistence.

Vince Lombardi says “the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”

I can therefore, conclude that the price to pay for success is working hard smartly.

If you are in the habit of stopping a project when faced with a little challenge, today should be an eye opener. You must learn to develop a culture of hard work, perseverance and be persistent.

Clear Life’s Purpose

If I have to rearrange these principles according to their importance I would put this (Clear life’s purpose) at number one.

What is success without a clear life’s purpose? How do you even start on your journey of success without a target?

If you have not yet formulated your life’s intended purpose please stop wasting your time and devise one.

Having no life’s purpose is living by the wind. God gave each one of us a life’s purpose. Every successful person has a purpose they are living for.

You may be wondering why the fuss about having a life’s purpose. Your intended life’s purpose defines who you want be; what you want to achieve; how you will achieve it, is not your business. God has already figured that one out for you.

In other words your life’s intended purpose is the reason why you exist. It what makes you fit in the bigger body of life. Remember that we are all but one big family with different roles to play.

I would encourage you to formulate one before you start on your success journey.

The best way to do it is by writing your life’s purpose in a note book. Read it very often, possibly every day so that your mind absorbs it.

Believe me it becomes easier to tailor your business or whatever activity around your life’s intended purpose.

You will notice that what you have written down as your intended life’s purpose flows very easily from within you. This makes even running a business much easier and fun as you will be working with something that you enjoy doing and flows naturally from within.

Believe me we all have something to give to this world and I mean something unique. There are no two people with the same exact DNA.

It does not matter if you look alike with someone you are very unique and have your own signature. Even identical twins that share the same parents are unique.

Successful people have a clear life’s purpose and that is their driving force. I can tell you that living life with a purpose is much more exciting. Every morning you wake up you are looking forward to getting started with your life.

Ever since I had my life’s intended purpose written down I always look forward to the next challenge coming my way. It has not been easy but it has been fun. I am still a long way to go but am slowly getting there one step at a time.

Knowledge

The final common principle is acquiring knowledge. “My people perish for lack of knowledge” ~ the Bible.

“If money is your hope for independence, you will never have it. The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability” ~ Henry Ford.

This is perhaps one of the keys to success. To be more you need to have more.

Successful people are more knowledgeable than the average people. They spend time reading and expanding their knowledge base.

I always encourage people to read and read and read. If there is anything that you will go with when you die it is knowledge. The world is full of reading materials and one of the best ways to expand your knowledge base is by reading.

If you are not in the habit of reading, please quickly develop one, even thirty minutes every day can make a difference to your knowledge base.

Knowledge will help increase your skills set. If you have to be successful you must acquire knowledge at all costs. I have a daily reading program that I stick to.

I have a modest target of reading one motivational book every month on top of my other materials. I have realized that even the target of one motivational book per month is not enough but I have to make a balance.

The good thing with reading is that it is one of the best ways to keep my mind from mischief.

Ever since I gave myself this target I have noticed an increase in my knowledge in this area. I am hoping to increase it even further, so that one day I should be able to write my own books on the subject of personal development and self growth.

If you have to join the successful elite you cannot afford to lag behind in knowledge.

Conclusion

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out” ~ Robert Collier. I hope and trust that this article has been of help to you.

I must make mention here that there is no written down formula for success. What may work for someone else may not necessarily produce the desired results for you.

However, it is very important that you take action and begin on your wonderful journey of success.

You were created to contribute to the healing of the world and to help make it a better place for all humanity. “He who has health has hope and he who has hope has everything” ~ Unknown.
