At the Heart of Every Obstacle Lies an Opportunity

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants.” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present.” – Unknown

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

There is no short cut. Victory lies in overcoming obstacles everyday“. When life takes a turn and brings about an unexpected obstacles, we react with our emotions. One may face fear, resentment, anger and doubt. It is absolutely humane to react in this manner. Sometimes the obstacles may seem impossible to overcome. They may seem bigger than we can handle. The bigger the problem the more the rewards. I read a story that changed my perspective to the way I view challenges. This story illustrates the opportunities that lies at the heart of every obstacle.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the King’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying on the road where the boulder had been.

The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

Change your Attitude

On the path to success always lies big O’s. Some read them as Obstacles, and others read them as Opportunities.

Off course the peasant in the story had to remove the boulder to clear his way, but in doing so he got rewarded. Going round it is was the easy way out. But, then this would not have solved anything and he would have missed out on the unseen reward. He decided to confront the obstacle head on and got his reward. You, see apart from just the gold that he received he also demonstrated responsibility. Just the act of him removing the boulder benefited more people than just him.

Now, we all know that responsibility is a big part of personal development. It is one of the key areas of personal growth and self improvement.

The other lesson learned from the story is that nature is neutral and it pays you for your efforts. Am very sure that if the king had mentioned about the reward the peasant would not have been the one to receive it as they were other people before him. I guess the peasant’s positive attitude towards problem solving was more at play than anything.

Most of the time we miss out on opportunities that could be life changing, all because of our negative attitude. Usually, the hindrances, presented, are telling us something. If you take time and analyse the problem, if you look at it with a positive mind set, it could be pointing you in the right direction for your much needed solution.

Change your attitude, and start looking at challenges with a more positive mental attitude. Overcoming challenges in life is what constitutes personal development. Whatever problems you are facing right now, there is a lesson that life is trying to teach you and they will not get fixed until you learn that lesson.

Learn from your Current Obstacle (s)

To reach maximum potential one must continuously be learning from life. Everyday is an opportunity to improve our lives. The small things that we do are adding up to our lives. We must make a deliberate habit of learning from our daily challenges. You may not be where you want to be in life. Life may have turned out to be what you did not expect. Well, know that you are not alone, there are people in much more difficult situations than you.

The good news though, is that you have built up a wealth of knowledge from your current situation. Armed with it you can change the course of you life. You have gained valuable experiences that have shown you the results of the choices and decisions you have previously made. If you want to make a positive change, you now know what not to do based on your life’s understandings.

I believe you are more and better equipped than before. The hurdles we face in life merely give us a chance to look at things differently. Sometimes, we are so fixed on one thing and do not look at the other side and then bang, we are faced with an obstacle and realise that there is another way of looking at things. The most important thing is not to lose focus and never give-up when faced with adversities. But, use them as a learning base.

Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity, and are able to turn both to their advantage” – Victor Kiam. The classic story in this article is really an eye opener. It is worth learning from. The story tells many stories and I know that if analysed even further, you will be able to deduce much more from it than I have. You must always try to solve problems than going round them. This is the only way we can help make the world a better place. Standout and always see the opportunity in the obstacles that lie ahead.

Six reasons why you should start an internet business

As you read these words, there are millions of people making a living out of the internet. Some of them part time and still many of them on a full time basis. Whoever is earning an income on the internet sets out their own working hours. I have an internet business that I have been running for over 1 year on a part time basis and the results are fairly good.

Here are six reasons why I think you have an internet business.

It is relatively cheap

Un like business in the real world start up costs on the internet are very low. I joined my SFI affiliate marketing program for free and spent less than us$35 to get started. This included web hosting fees and domain registration. Believe me I could not have managed to do any meaningful business with the same kind of money.

The monthly expenses are also very minimal. I currently spend about US$30 per month as running costs. This amount also includes monthly hosting fees. Compare this to a real world business say a marketing business.

You set your own working hours

The beauty with an internet business is the flexibility it offers. With the internet business you do not have to wake up early in the morning to prepare and get to work at 8am or 9am if you are full time. I set my working time for my internet business in the evening. I intend to quit my regular job when my earnings from the internet business can fully sustain my living at the moment I work on a part time basis.

I cannot imagine and wait to start running my internet business on a full time scale. I currently run my business from home and during lunch time when am free.

You work from home

Running an internet business gives you the luxury of working from the comfort of your living room. Imagine how much time you can save by avoiding being in traffic for say two hours a day to get to and from your office for 30 days. That’s an incredible 60hrs saved and can be used to improve your internet business wow.

I know that there are pro and cons for working from home but I think the pros outweigh the cons. Working from home is far cheaper and saves time. Remember where you put your computer is where your office is.

The world is your market

There is no any other business that offers you the world for your market. With internet business you have the world as your market. By sitting in from of your computer you have the world market within three feet 24/7. You leverage on your free or low cost software and hardware and internet infrastructure, all of which when combined will give you leveraging power that far exceeds any conventional business, allowing you to achieve more and more with less and less work.

Let’s face it the only major work you do is at the beginning of your business or during the setup process. Once you are done with the initial setup the rest is more or less easy and can be automated.

Spend more time with family

If you are a parent you will agree with me that you spend less time with your siblings and spouse because of your work. Owning an internet business gives you the privilege to spend more time with your family and watch them grow. I have known that the most regret people have is spending less time with the people the love most.

You can have more than one business

Since the cost of setting up and running an internet business are so low and most operations can be automated, it gives you the advantage of owning more than one business. The more time you have at your disposal the more you can spend it on setting and running another enterprise. This will mean off course added income. There is so much wealth to be accumulated in this world that no one should be poor.

I currently run more than one online business. Like I said before my intention is to increase my revenue base and ensure that the online businesses can fully support my day to day needs. I foresee, myself quitting my regular job in the nearest future.
