It’s time to review your resolutions

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

We are nearly coming to the end of the year and it’s about time you started reviewing what your current goals are and what you have achieved. If you did not start out with any resolutions at the beginning of the year perhaps this is the right time to evaluate what you have achieved during the year. “To be successful you must decide exactly what you want to accomplish, and then resolve to pay the price to get it” -Bunker Hunt. The only thing you have to fear is not giving 100%. There are no limitations to any of our dreams.

I believe that you do not have to wait until the end of the year to write down your goals or resolutions. You can start now and align yourself as the year progresses. If you are living your life without setting goals for your life then, you are living an aimless life, you are simply drifting along. It is very important to have a written down set of goals and work towards achieving them.

I know for a fact; that every reasonable human being has a set of aspirations they would want to achieve. You may not have realised it but even those that do not have written down resolutions have some sort of aspirations. You will agree with me that if you ask a child, what they would like to be when they grow up they will definitely tell you something. Some of the happiest of people I have come across are those that make resolutions that are written down and they are vigorously pursuing them.

Writing is a great reminder

You can do anything you put your mind to” – Unknown. Do not just rely on your memory write down your resolutions and read them very often. Writing down your resolutions keeps reminding you of what you need to achieve in a specified period. If you are serious about your personal growth you will have written down resolutions that feed into their intended life’s purpose. This also acts as a gauge to your life. You will always make your own assessment to see if you are moving towards achieving your written down resolutions or are drifting away from them and keep yourself in line.

I know for a fact that it takes a lot of discipline to live according to your written down plan. But remember that discipline is a habit that can be learned. Every day comes with its own challenges but, it is also important that we try and fit those daily challenges in to our plans. Everyone including those that are successful have challenges and the difference is that they have learned to be more disciplined by doing that which helps them more to achieve their goals. “Great minds have purpose others have wishes” – Washington Irvin.

Your written down periodical resolutions should feed into your overall intended life’s purpose. You will use your resolutions as a vehicle to drive you towards your life’s bigger picture. I can assure you that you will most likely not achieve all of your resolutions in the specified period that you have set yourself. Don’t worry about that, the most important thing is that you have them written down and this will keep reminding you of them as you review your progress.

Give yourself genuine targets

Your resolutions must be accompanied by genuine measureable targets. It will give you more motivation and encouragement as you achieve each and every resolution your have written down. I know that it is important to challenge ourselves, but these targets should be realistic and achievable. Failure to achieve your targets in a specified period should not be a limiting factor. The most important thing is to learn from your failures and keep on improving until you have achieved your plans.

Your targets could be set for review on a periodical basis e.g. weekly, monthly or quarterly depending on how often you want to monitor your own progress. When setting your targets please ensure that they can be easily measured and assessed by both yourself and an independent person that you have shared them with.

Be honest with yourself when carrying out a self assessment. Remember that only you know yourself better than anyone else. It is important to be honest with yourself before you can be honest with other people.

Reward yourself

The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it” – John Rushkin. Life is too short. Always reward yourself for accomplishing your goals. Rewarding yourself should be done only when you have met your set resolutions for that period. This will help to keep you motivated to work extra hard as your mind will be looking forward to the rewards after wards.

Keep your rewards modest so as not to overshadow yourself with instant gratification. Look at the bigger picture of what you want to achieve and keep your mind focused on doing what you have to do to achieve your overall intended life’s purpose. Also keep in mind that you are not in competition with anyone and that success is not a destination but a joyful journey. Personal development and growth is about yourself and not anyone else.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you stay motivated and focused on the bigger picture of your personal development and growth. I have noticed that many of us like to blame our failures on other people. But remember that most of the times we are not forced to make the bad choices and decisions that have lead to failure and destruction.

Conclusion

I therefore, challenge you to review your years achievements whether you have resolutions for the current year or not. The fact that you are not dead means that you must have achieved something even if it is failure. If you have your resolutions written down, it is time you started reviewing them and start thinking about how strong you are going to end the year. It is also time you started thinking about making your next year’s resolutions and have them ready as you start working on them at the turn of the year. Stay blessed and remember to always “Standout tall and be counted”.

The 7 key principles of success

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

“Success is a journey not a destination” ~ Ben Sweetland. This is one of my favourite quotes. Indeed success is not a destination that you can say now I have arrived at success. It is a daily way of living. I have come to understand that there is no quick formula to success. We all have asked questions of why are other people more successful than others. I have been doing some research on this question and have come to an understanding and believe that the following key principles have a common ground among successful people. There are a lot other factors that have made different people succeed but all of them have revolved around these 7 principles.

[adrotate banner=”2″]

There are many different ways of measuring success. Some people measure it by the wealth they have accumulated others by what they have achieved. Whatever, measure you choose to use I believe that the 7 principles mentioned in this article will definitely be of use for you. Personal development is directly link to success. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is the attitude towards what they want to achieve. Those who men and women who walk the journey of success are usually persistent and are more motivated and focussed with what they are trying to achieve. And now I present to you the 7 principles of success;-

Set your goals
“If one advances confidently in the direction of their goals and endeavours to live the life that they have imagined, they will meet with success unexpected in common hours” ~ Henry David Thoreau. The principle of goal setting cannot be over emphasised. You cannot call yourself successful if you have no target to achieve. It is there very important that you write down what your intended life’s purpose is before you set out fulfilling it. I believe that all human beings have a God given task to achieve in their lives. Most of us have abandoned or have no idea what that purpose is. Man was not created to live an aimless life. God created you to contribute positively to the human race.

Dr. Myles Monroe says “the richest place on earth is the grave yard” this is because at the grave yard lies ideas that have never been; songs that have never been song; inventions that have never been born. Imagine if you and I play our part in making this world a better place. Setting goals is the first thing that should be done before venturing out to fulfilling your God given purpose. I know that when you write down your goals and read them on a frequent basis, they act as a stimulus and motivation to helping you move towards achieving them. Targets act as reminders. They are meant to be used as a gauge. I have never come across a successful person who has no goals. If you have no goals in life then you are just flowing with the wind. I can rest assure you that if you do not set targets for yourself you will never achieve much.

Forget about failure
“Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently” ~ Henry Ford. We fail because we accept failure. There are many great stories about how people never gave up even when they were faced with the prospect of failing. Failure should be treated as an opportunity to perfect our act. Yes in everything that you set out to do you shall encounter challenges. A challenge is merely there you teach you and tell you to adjust your plans. A word of encouragement to everyone is that there is no success without failure. There is no successful person that has never failed at some point. The difference is perseverance.

When you are starting out with your plans “DO NOT PLAN FOR FAILURE”. Don’t even think about failure; erase it from your mind. When you are faced with failure take it as a challenge face it head on. Failure is as result of wrong thinking and lack of persistence. Put on your positive thoughts and failure will run out through the window. Please understand me very well personal success does not necessarily mean that you will not encounter challenges. If you think that the journey of success is a plain and easy one then you are absolutely mistaken. Walking the journey of success requires persistence; hard work; diligence and perseverance. If you cultivate the habit of persistence you will certainly enjoy the insurance against failure. “Mastery of the Law of Success philosophy is the equivalent of an insurance policy against failure” ~ Samuel Gomers. I have come to realise that one of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is confronted by temporary defeat. Most of us are guilty of this mistake at one time or another. We have all quit at some point in life.

Take one step at a time
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”~ Chinese Proverb. Often times when we set out on a project we have a tendency of doing too many things at a time. I find that there is nothing wrong with multi-tasking but the danger with multi-tasking is that you may lose your focus on your main objective(s). It is therefore, very important that you take one step at a time. Put in mind that you are not racing with anyone. It is your personal achievement program. Your plans will not be very clear as at the beginning but as you take one step at a time the clear picture of what you want to achieve will begin to illuminate.

[adrotate banner=”3″]
The beauty about setting out your life’s purpose is that you do something that you enjoying doing for the rest of your life. The challenges you will face on a daily basis will be more exciting as you overcome them. You will be able to look back with pride and joy at how far you have come. In this part of the world I come from we have a tendency of doing things for the interim. Even our own local businessmen start it businesses just for daily sustenance we have no succession plan. When the owner of the business dies they die with it. There are very few well established businesses that have flourished long after the original owners have passed on. I do not want to be in the bracket of them that dies with the ideas.

Avoid negativity
Watch out for the negative people. Always get around positive people. Find people who will encourage you and compliment what you are doing. You cannot entertain negative thoughts and expect to have a positive outcome? The positive thought will destroy the negative as certainly as light destroys darkness, and the results will be just as effectual. Negativity is the mother of failure. I can challenge you to think of a successful person who has a negative minded personality. One of the major differences between success and failure is positivity and negativity. The more you lean towards positivity the more success you will accomplish or achieve and the opposite is true.

But then you may ask how can I avoid negativity? See 4 tips to help stay positive. In this article you will find some useful tips and information that you can use. Like I said before negativity is the beginning of all failure. The bible says you will reap what you sow. If you sow negativity you will definitely meet with negative results if you are positive you will as well reap positive results. There are very few instances that you reap negative results when you are very optimistic. Avoiding all the negative things in life can help change and enhance your personal success.

Clarify your goals
The goals you set will not be clear at the first instance. If you wait for them to be clear you will never start on your journey and I can assure you they will never be clear. When I first set out my life’s purpose it was very hazy and it only started becoming clearer as I started working the process. Every day I visualise what the end product will be and it gets more and more clear. It is important though at the very beginning to be specific on what you want to achieve example you may have a target to raise say US$5 million in five years. This is a more specific and measurable target than to just say I want to raise a lot of money after 5 years.

Clarifying your goals as you go along is very important as it sets your mind in tune with what you are doing. Have an open mind be more interested in the journey rather than the goal. Remember it is only with unbounded confidence that the goal is reached.

Embrace obstacles
Large ideas have a tendency to eliminate all smaller ideas so that it is well to hold ideas large enough to counteract and destroy all small or undesirable tendencies. This will remove innumerable petty and annoying obstacles from your path. You also become conscious of a larger world of thought, thereby increasing your mental capacity as well as placing yourself in position to accomplish something of value. Obstacles must be embraced; they are part of the journey to success. Obstacles are a way of telling us to change something our plans.

[adrotate banner=”4″]
It is, however, through attention that you will finally be able to overcome obstacles of any kind that appear in your path onward and upward, and the only way to acquire this wonderful power is by practice. Remember practice makes perfect. Difficulties, in harmonies, and obstacles, indicate that we are either refusing to give out what we no longer need, or refusing to accept what we require. Difficulties and obstacles will continue to come until we absorb their wisdom and gather from them the essentials of further growth.

You are not an island
No man is an island. We are all part of one big family and that is the universe. There is a reason why God gives us people to be surrounded with. You should not be ashamed or feel inferior to ask for help. In fact help is everywhere. Solicit for help in areas that you require it. Man is part of one huge universe and each and every one of us has a different role to play just the human body consists of various parts performing different but coordinated functions. Support can come through various different forms, if you are in business it could come through employing people and or delegating some of your duties. You should always endeavour not to live life in isolation. Also try and surround yourself with helpful people. That is those that you can learn something from.

Conclusion
Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving they make mistakes but they do not quit”~ Conrad Hilton. There is no known secret to success, but believe me he who thinks big and acts on his thoughts has every chance to succeed than he who thinks small and does not act on his thoughts. I would like to end by encouraging you try out these principles they could just be what you have been missing in your life above all “standout tall and be counted”.

5 principles to help you set your goals

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals” ~ Henry Ford. As the year comes to an end and as you prepare for the New coming Year, I thought I could just remind you and probably give you a few tips on how to set out your future goals. Goal setting is one activity that distinguishes successful people from the average ones. It is hence important in life to set your own achievable targets that are measurable. Before you set your goals, have your life’s intended purpose written down. The goals you set are aimed at helping you achieve your intended life’s purpose. For more on goal setting please read this article Goal setting Tips.

What are your strengths?
“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender that is strength” ~ Mahatma Gandhi. It is very important to know what your strengths and weaknesses are as a human being. Before you step out to set your goals know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Know what flows from you naturally. I have noticed that the best goals are those set around our strengths.

This makes life very easy and the journey to success enjoyable. You cannot set a goal as being a better mathematics teacher when your God given call is being an athlete. You will surely fail terribly. This goes to parents who are in the bad habit of deciding their children’s careers. Just because you are the one paying school fees, you have no right to force your children to study what they do not want. Or put straight, forcing them to become what you failed to be. I have two boys and all that I do is help them build on what they want to be.

My first son tells me he wants to be a medical doctor because he feels pity when he sees sick people. He wants to help them get better. The only thing I do is to help him work hard and tell him that he needs to work extra hard in sciences, be accepted in medical school. So far so good and I pray to God that he continues on this path.

Write down your goals
There is power in writing down something. One sure way of reminding yourself about your goals is to put them in black and white. Please make sure that you are the one deciding your own goals and they are not borrowed. It is much better and easier to set your own targets than copying some else’s.

The targets you set must be your own blue print that can be adjusted as you go along. Writing also acts a measure and monitor, as this helps you to review them from time and again. I find goal writing fun and interesting. A lot of things pop up that I could have easily forgotten about if I had not put them in writing. Your targets are your blue print; the final product is your white print. All successful people have their life’s intended purposes written down and broken down into smaller manageable and achievable targets.

Dream Big
“If one advances confidently in the direction of their goals and endeavours to live the life that they have imagined, they will meet with success unexpected in un common hours” ~ Henry David Thoreau. Our lives are made of what we dream about. It all starts with your mind. If you dream, small you are more likely to achieve less in life. The bigger your dreams are the bigger your requirement to dedication and the bigger your expectations are. Zig Zigglar rightly says “if you can dream it, then you can achieve it”.

Am sure that you have dreams of what you want to be. I believe that every one of us dreams of what they want to be. There is nothing wrong in dreaming big. You are only increasing your chances of success.

Imagine yourself succeeding
I would say dreaming and imagination go hand in hand. When you are dreaming you are visualising yourself living your dream. Use your imagination to keep your dreams alive. If you want to achieve your goals you need to continue imagining yourself as a success. Such positive thoughts send out strong energies that attract complimentary thoughts from people that can help us achieve what we want.

Constructive imagination means mental labour, by some considered to be the hardest kind of labour, but, if so, it yields the greatest returns, for all the great things in life have come to men and women who had the capacity to think, to imagine, and to make their dreams come true. “The cultivation of the imagination leads to the development of the ideal out of which your future will emerge” ~ The Master Key.

Pursue you goals with passion
The driving force behind your goal achievement is your desire. You must develop a burning desire that transcends everything else to achieve your purpose. That is why I said in the first place that you set your goals based on your strengths. Whatever life’s purpose you have in life always make sure that you enjoy what you do. Life’s too short to be lived miserably.

Inject some passion in thing that you do. If you are an artist’s draw like that is your last drawing. Imagine that you are going away and you want people to remember you for something you will surely give them the very best of your being. If you are in the service industry being good and just smiling at your customers makes them come back frequently. Live life with passion.

Conclusion
I will end with one of my favourite quotes by Thomas Jefferson ~ “nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude”. Lastly as always “standout tall and be counted”.

Business Leadership

Communication is key to success

In any relationship be it business or intimate communication is very cardinal to making the relationship a success. You will agree with me that many relationships especially intimate ones break up mostly due to a luck of communication. I am not sure of the statistics but I am very certain that most relationships lack proper and good communication. Many a times our messages are misinterpreted or misunderstood. I have been in situations where I had to apologise because my message was miss understood either because of the words I used or maybe the tone of my voice.

I must admit that I do admire people who do know how to put across what they want. In my years of trying to improve my life I have learned to use simple and straight forward words when communicating and especially when it comes to giving instructions. If you are an ardent follower or regular reader of this blog you will agree with me that you there are no jaw breaking words. I try as much as possible to use everyday words that are straight forward. I also want to believe that most of these world conflicts are due to a lack of proper communication. In a work or business environment it is very important to have a precise and clear cut communication strategy to avoid conflicts.

If you are in leadership the following tips may help you pass on what ever it is you want achieved.

  • Desired outcome

As a leader you need to decide what the desired outcome should be. Have a vision and ensure that you put yourself in the shoes of your subordinates when giving instructions. You may need to repeat and structure your words in simple everyday language for all your subordinates to understand.

Sometimes it helps to explain what your vision is to a smaller group or better still on individual basis to your desired target group. Some people may not be free to ask as many questions as needed when in a large group. If you are to succeed at anything your desired outcome should be understood and taken seriously.

  • Goals and expectations

When setting the stage for discussing what is currently happening it is always a good idea to start the conversation with your goals and expectations. It is very important that each and very member of your group know what is expected of them and the overall goals to be achieved by them. Again I would emphasis on a one to one briefing as this tends to bring out even the most pertinent issues.

I have learned that one to one discussions  are more fruitful than group ones. Most of us are not very comfortable with large group discussions. There is a tendency of feeling intimidated there by inhibiting good communication. As a leader you should also take time to know the strengths and weaknesses of your group at an individual level

  • Current happenings

The next important tip is to explain what is and is not currently happening. This will help send a message to the group about what you think is currently obtaining on the ground. If your communication levels are at the right pace your group will let you know exactly what is on the ground if they feel you are misinformed.

You as the leader should spell out in detail what you think is happening and not happening. Remember the backstops at you. Your  responsibility is to provide guidance  and this can only be achieved by proper and good communication.

  • The input

The next and final tip is what I call the input. You can have all the brilliant ideas in the world but without the final act of implementation nothing can be achieved. After all the hard work and brain storming. A proper, concise and clear communication strategy has to be implored.

As a leader it is very important that you devise a simple and clear communication strategy outlining what input is expected from each and every member of your team.  This way all the members will have a clear understanding and deliver accordingly.

Conclusion

Communication is perhaps the key to success. There are many more tips and methods that can be used for effective communication than the above. The ones mentioned here are ones that I frequently use and have been of help to me this far. I always encourage my readers to research more and to always “standout tall and be counted“.

To succeed you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you”. ~ Tony Dorset. Many of us have read a great deal on the subject of success and what it takes to be successful in whatever you intend to be. You will agree with me that there are thousands and thousands of books on success and it’s requirements, after all we all want to be successful in our endevours. I want to humbly contribute by giving a practical experience on the subject. Success does not come without motivation and inspiration. I have never come across a successful person who has no inspiration and motivation.

We are all motivated and inspired by something or someone. The difference is that those who succeed keep the fire burning were as most of you quench the fire even before you get started. Below I have outlined three things that will help improve and keep you motivated. Surely the road to success is definitely not an easy one.

• Self motivation
To become self motivated means to get out of the beaten path, out of the rut, because extraordinary results require extraordinary means. I describe self motivation as the fuel to keeping your dream alive. The more motivated you are the more you keep working and getting closer towards realizing your dream.

To keep yourself motivation high, write down your intended purpose and keep it somewhere you can easily access and read it often. In Napoleon Hills’ book “Think and Grow Rich” he advises that you read it on a daily basis. Just like in a car fuel runs out every now and again and the car needs refueling. Self motivation must be kept alive. Remember it is the fuel to keeping your dream alive.

I have written my intended purpose in life and I keep referring to it on a regular basis. At least 3 or 4 times a week. This way I keep reminding myself of what I should be doing on a daily basis in order that I achieve my purpose.

• What is your goal
Surely success cannot be attained without a goal. I would like to believe that all people who have succeeded have had goals imbibed somewhere. I prefer writing down in black and white cause I believe there is power in writing.

At first your goal may not be as clear as you want it to be, but still write it down anyway. You will notice that along the way you begin to make adjustments to it as you become clearer. Your written down intended purpose is your target and goal. You only make adjustments to the way you are going to achieve it. If your goal for example is to raise $10m in 10 years you must state how you intend to raise this amount of money and start working towards achieving your goal.

The best way to achieving your intended purpose is to be engaged in an activity you enjoy most. This will give you added pleasure and you will be able to produce your very best as you go about your activities. Remember it is easier to do something you enjoy best than what you do not enjoy.

• Be dedicated
My last advice is dedication. How then can you succeed without being dedicated? Goals are achieved through dedication. The time you spend to prepare for an exam will ultimately show when the results are released. Success does not come on a silver plate. There are a lot of sacrifices that are made for you to succeed.

I will go back to the example of raising $10m in 10 years. If that is your goal you will need to adjust your spending and cut out on all an unnecessary expenditure. You will also need to be dedicated on an activity or activities that will help you raise your money and be faithful to saving on a regular basis. Dedication is no easy task.

Conclusion
Improving your motivation and better still keeping motivated is an important part of success. You cannot be successful without being motivated and inspired. The 3 things outlined above are some of the ways I use to help improve my motivation. I believe that there are many ways that can be used to help improve your motivation and do hope that you enjoyed reading my article and find it helpful. Like I always say “standout tall and be counted” you deserve it.

Goal setting tips

People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them” ~ Tony Robins. In this article I am talking about how to set your goals into manageable ones. Before you start to set your goals you need to have a written down life’s purpose. What do you want to be in your life? Goal setting is an open secret known by top-caliber individuals including successful businessmen and women and all types of achievers in all the different disciplines’ of life.  Goal setting gives you both short and long term motivation and keeps you focused. Your goals help you to set focus on the acquisition of required knowledge and to plan and organize your resources and your time so that you can get the best out of your life.

Setting clearly defined short term and long term goals will enable you to measure your progress and achieve personal satisfaction once you have successfully met your them (goals). Charting your progress will also enable you to actually see the stages of completion leading to the actual realization of your life’s purpose. This eliminates the feeling of a long and pointless grind towards achieving your goals. Your self-confidence and level of competence will also improve as you will be more aware of your capabilities as you complete or achieve your goals.

Settings goals will involve deciding what you really want to do with your intended life’s purpose and what short and long term goals you need to achieve it. Then you have to break down your goals into the smaller and manageable targets that you must complete in your way to achieving your life’s purpose. Once you have your list waste no time in tackling your goals.

A good way to have a manageable list is to have a daily and weekly set of tasks. By doing this you will be always in the position of going towards your intended life’s purpose. Everyday will give you the opportunity to fulfill a certain goal giving you the feeling of accomplishment.

Here are some pointers that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them.

Attitude plays a very big role in setting and achieving your goals. You must ask yourself if any part of you or your mind is holding you back towards completing your simplest goals. If there are any part of your behavior that is being a hindrance or puts your plans into disarray? e.g alcohol consumption. If you do have problems in these areas then the immediate thing to do is to address this problem.

Careers are made by good time management practice. Failing in a career is often attributed to bad time management. Careers require a lot from an individual which often makes the career the life of the individual. Plan how far you want to go into your career.

Education is key in achieving your goals. If your goals require you to have a certain kind of degree or require a certain specialization or demand a certain skill to be developed, make plans in getting the appropriate education. You will not regret it. After, all education is about the only thing that you will go to the grave with. It is personal.

Your family should never be left out of your plans. If you are just starting out then you have to decide if you want to be a parent or when you want to be a parent. You also have to know if you really would be a good parent and how well would you relate to extended family members

Personal financial situations also play a major role in achieving your goals. Have a realistic goal on how much you really want to earn. You also must be able to create plans or stages by which you will be able to reach your earnings potential.

Physically gifted individuals may be able to achieve sports related goals like being in the National Basketball Association or National Soccer Teams. Determining your physical capabilities should be one of your priorities. Physical limitations could however be conquered with proper planning.

As the saying goes -‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, or something to that effect, is by all means true down to the last the letter. Giving yourself a little pleasure should be included into your plans.

Conclusion
To start achieving your lifetime goals, set a quarter of a century plan, then break it down to 5 year plans then break it down again to 1 year plans, then 6 month plans then monthly plans, then weekly, then daily. Then create a things-to-do list for the day. Always review your plans and prepare for contingencies and always remember to “standout tall and be counted” in whatever you do.

Improve your self esteem part 1

Your self-esteem is probably the most important part of your personality. “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence” ~ Helen Keller. It is the energy source or the reactor core of your personality, and how much self-esteem you have determines your levels of vitality, enthusiasm and personal magnetism. I have noticed that people with a high self-esteem are more positive, more likable and more effective in every part of their lives.

Everything that you do or say or think affects your self-esteem. It is important therefore, that you guard your self esteem jealously by having the right frame of mind on a continuous basis. Probably the best definition of self-esteem is “the level to which you respect and value yourself as an important, worthwhile person”. How much value to do you put on yourself? The value will usually be determined by the kind of life you lead. It is your level of mental fitness.

To be at your best and feel terrific about yourself, you should be in a perpetual state of self-esteem building and maintenance. Just as you take responsibility for your level of physical fitness, you need to take complete responsibility for the content and quality of your mind.

I have developed a simple formula that contains all the critical elements of self-esteem building, and you can use it on a regular basis to ensure maximum performance. This formula is comprised of six basic elements. They are: goals, principles, success experiences, comparison with others, recognition, and rewards.

Goals

“Goals allow you to control the direction of change in your favor”. How much you like and respect yourself is directly affected by your goals. The very act of setting big, challenging goals for yourself and making written plans of action to achieve them actually raises your self-esteem, which causes you to feel much better about yourself. It is important to set goals for your life. Imagine how nice it would be like to play a video of your life and you being the main character achieving your goals one at a time.

Self-esteem is a condition you experience when you are moving step-by-step toward the accomplishment of something that is important to you. For that reason, it’s really important to have clear goals for each part of your life and to continually work toward achieving those goals. Each progressive step causes your self-esteem to go up and makes you feel even more positive and effective in everything else you do.

Principles

The second element in self-esteem building is having clear principle and values to which you are committed. I think that we all or rather a normal thinking person has their own set principles. These I believe are the driving force of each and every one of us. The difference is the level of commitment. Men and women with high self-esteem are very clear about what they believe in. The higher your values and ideals are, and the more committed you are to living your life consistent with those values and ideals, the more you will like and respect yourself, and the higher your self-esteem will be.

Lasting self-esteem comes only when your goals and your values are congruent-that is, when they fit into each other like a hand into a glove. Much of the stress that people experience comes from believing one thing and trying to do another. But when your goals and values are in harmony with each other, you feel a wonderful surge of energy and well-being, and that’s when you start to make real progress.

Success experiences

“My definition of success is to live your life in a way that causes you to feel a ton of pleasure and very little pain – and because of your lifestyle, have the people around you feel a lot more pleasure than they do pain” ~ Tony Robins. The third element in self-esteem improvement involves having success experiences. Once you have set your goals and principles, it is important that you make them measurable so that you can keep score of your small and large successes along the way. The very act of setting up a goal, breaking it down into smaller parts, and then completing those parts makes you feel like a winner and causes your self-esteem to go up. But remember that you can’t hit a target you can’t see. You can’t feel like a winner unless you clearly lay out the standards by which you are going to measure your success and then achieve those standards.

Let’s say that you set a goal to sell a certain amount or earn a certain amount of income in a given year. If you break that down into monthly and weekly goals, and then you achieve the first of those goals, you will feel great about yourself. Each time you reach another milestone, your self-esteem and ability to perform will increase, and you will feel encouraged and enthusiastic about the next challenge. The key is to keep encouraging yourself with tangible results. The more tangible results you can see the more self esteem you buildup.

Conclusion

This is a two part article and I thought to end here. In the final article am talking about the remaining elements that is comparison with others; recognition and rewards. There is more you could do to improve your self esteem. Having a high self esteem is the gateway to a better life and living. It does not matter what you are or what you have when you put on a high self esteem you can move mountains. Until next time “standout tall and be counted”.
