Get set, ready, steady go. The challenge starts today. The die is cast. There is no turning back. This is the beginning of the month-long article posting challenge. In my previous post, I made a public declaration and challenged myself to a daily article posting challenge for the month of February. Well, the month is right upon us. This is the first post for the challenge. At the end of this month, we should have a minimum of 29 articles of good value. The month has already started with challenges for me and I need to quickly learn how to navigate through them without disturbing my 29 Days challenge. I know that I will face a lot of them, but what will determine my success are the learning points that I will take from them.

I am not looking back but pressing ahead and see how far this challenge will take me. The beauty of it is that at the end of February  I will have moved a step closer to achieving my objective of improving my writing skills and contributing to humanity. I believe that when something is written it is indelible. Usually, we write what we believe in or what we want to say. Most of the time we convey our feelings and thoughts through writing.  The major difference between speaking and writing is the ease of reference. It is much easier to refer to written speeches. Written messages are never forgotten. Today we continue to make reference to the many quotes because they were written down.

Here are some of the key objectives of the 29 Day Challenge.

Increase content on the site

Increasing site content is a no brainer. Remember that I pledged to increase content on this site. The more articles that are posted on any site will, of course, add to the existing site content and hence increase the overall content. This is a basic SEO rule. The search engines love new content. This has the potential to greatly improve the site rankings by the search engines and therefore, increase search engine traffic to the website.

I believe that search engine traffic is the best because users reach your site through what they are searching for. They are more specific. Increased traffic means increased visibility and access to a wider audience. My hope is to reach as many people as possible. Through this am hoping to get more referral links pointing to this site. More backlinks mean more improved search engine rankings. This can only be good news for me.

Improve visitor satisfaction

Visitor satisfaction will come with the quality of the content being generated. Although visitor satisfaction will not only depend on content quality, there are many other factors that will ensure it is achieved. Some of them may beyond my control. However, I will endeavour to change those things that are within my power. I am also very much aware that you cannot please every visitor. But, I will try as much as possible to make the site user-friendly and work with more reliable and faster hosting service providers.

Improve my writing skills

They say practice makes perfect. I believe that even before I undertake this challenge, my writing skills are improving with every article I write. I can only assume that there will be a great improvement at the end of the challenge. I know that there is a lot of room for improving my writing skills. I can assure you that am constantly working to improving them on a regular basis. The better and more easily my articles are the more user satisfaction is generated.

Improve writing inspiration

Those of my friends who are artists and bloggers will understand what am saying when I say that you need the inspiration to write. It is not easy to just wake up and start writing. You need to have some kind of inspiration to put your thoughts on paper and worse still put them in a meaningful way. A musician always needs the inspiration to write and sing songs. The inspiration may come through real-life experiences and many other sources. One of the most killers of not putting down our thoughts is differing them to another time. I have learned over the years that when you feel inspired to write, don’t postpone to a later time, your thoughts will have disappeared by then. Just sit down and get going with it. Your thoughts will flow on paper. Usually, the idea is not even as clear at the beginning but as you delve into it you simply flow with it.

As we undertake this journey together I also challenge you to do something you have never done before. It could be exercising on a daily basis for a period of time. You could also challenge yourself to get rid of an old bad habit. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it adds more value to yourself and the world at large. I believe that we will be made to account for how we spend our time on this earth.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Life is lived from the inside out. At the very core of your personality are your values. What you become or what you are, is largely dictated by the values that you hold strong. If your values are love, kindness, honesty, positivity and sincerity that is what will often be shown in your life. Our outward life is merely a reflection of our inner core values. The Bible says “you shall know them by their fruits”. Our values are our fruits. We all live life by our values, be it wrong or right and sometimes knowingly or unknowingly. Human beings are mostly directed by the values they hold. We are daily displaying what we value by the way we live our lives. The life you are living today is a direct reflection of your inner values. Notice that most successful people have a positive outlook about themselves. They harbour positive values within their inner being.

It is, therefore, very important that if we are to succeed at whatever we are doing we must learn to feed our minds and inner souls with the right material. If you feed on negative emotions you are most likely going to produce negative emotions and the opposite is equally true. In short, your character is a sum total of what you feed on. The good thing with our mind is that it can be transformed. If you want a transformation of your mind, feed it with the right material. The bible says “you shall be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. The only way I know of renewing your mind is by reading and learning. Look, whatever you read sticks in your mind and someday it will come out. If you read wrong books your mind will be transformed by them. One of the books I read on a daily basis is the Bible. It is full of positive affirmations. The Bible is actually my life’s guide.

You have to make a deliberate policy and have the will to change. Our daily actions are controlled, consciously or unconsciously by our thoughts. You may not have noticed it but believe me, your thinking has a direct bearing on your character and general behaviour. What you hold dear to your heart will always manifest. I always like to give the example of thieves, do you realise that no one is born a thief. People just learn to thieve and since it can be learned it can also be unlearned. Nature provides us all with equal opportunities. For example, we all have 24hrs a day, 12 months a year. The biggest difference is the way we seize the opportunities that come our way. Sometimes opportunities can be disguised as a “disaster” say, loss of employment. Most of the times when one loses employment they moan and groan about it without realising that it could be an opportunity that has just presented itself to be self-employed or even look for better employment.

Improve your values

Like I said before our values can be learned and unlearned. The question is how can we unlearn the bad values that have accumulated over a period of time. Over the past months, I have been focussing on changing some of my values by reading, listening and watching motivational materials and attending personal transformation seminars. This has seen me change my internal values tremendously. To this day some of the things I thought of being valuable are actually of negative value. When you change your values and focus on building positive ones it gives you a sense of purpose and you feel in control of your life. Most of us are not in full control of our lives and hence just flow with the wind. Hence the frustration with life.

A positive mindset has the ability to create a sense of responsibility and enables you to enjoy your life much much better. You have less pressure and you do not panic when things go wrong. Believe me, things will always go wrong and sometimes very messy. The most important thing is the way you react to them. Do you let the situation overtake you or do you take control of the situation? Most of the things that go wrong are actually within our control. I believe that everything that happens to us, happens for a reason and mostly it is just an opportunity for us to provide a solution differently. However, this entails thinking outside the box. In fact, removing the box altogether. I always like to think of life as a journey. When faced with a challenge do I go back or face the challenge head-on. I focus on facing the challenge head-on. There is always a solution to every challenge that comes your way. Remember that God always makes a way where they seem to be no way. The Bible says “seek ye first the kingdom of God and everything shall be added on to you”. The bible also says that “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”. It is, therefore, very important to have a prayerful life if you have to be successful. Prayer and meditation on the word of God open doors.

Your values are the key components in determining your character. As human beings, our lives portray our core values. Take stock of your life and see what you value most. The best way is to write down what you think your values are. Now compare that with the way you carry on with your daily life. If your values are love, honesty and sincerity this will tend to be exactly how you treat other people. You will always treat people with love and sincerity. I have also noticed that we make opinions about people based on our own characters and past behaviour.  Just take time to observe your life and you will surely agree with me that what you value most will definitely be primary in your daily life.

Clarify your values

One of the characteristics of good leaders is that they have clarity of their values. Remember that we are all leaders of some sort. You may not be in a leadership position but you are the leader of “yourself corporation limited”. The more you get to know what your values are with clarity the better person you become and the more happiness you experience. Many of us have values that are not clear. If you want to succeed at what you are doing it is very important that you write down a clear set of values that you believe in. These values should actually be engraved and be identified with your belief system. This is also true that most successful corporations have a set of values they adhere to.

Your belief system is also key in determining your values. Remember that our belief system can also be learned or unlearned. Our beliefs are mainly deduced as a result of our past experiences and what we have read and seen. Some experiences can be directly linked to us as individuals or can be someone we have seen or read about. To be successful and develop a positive mental attitude there is need to have clarity in your values and belief system. Personal development and self-growth is not a destination but a journey. We are all on the journey of life, however, the difference is how we are enjoying this journey.

Enjoy your life

There is much joy in doing the right things. I have heard that if you are feeling low and want to experience happiness try giving a helping hand to someone else. You will definitely be filled with joy when you see the glow of happiness in the other person.  I believe that humanity was created to help each other. We are the solution to many people around us. If you look around you will realise that there are many people who are worse than you. The onus is on you to make the best out of the current situation. Stop complaining and blaming people for your current situation. Especially if you are over the age of 18, you have full responsibility for your life. Learn to enjoy life by doing that which God created you for. You have the ability and capacity to improve yourself no matter how bad the situation may look like.

Life was meant to be enjoyed. I have learned that for as long as someone has the breath of life in them they are not to be written off. Never ever look down upon anyone in life no matter what their current situation is, instead try and help them where possible. They say as you climb the ladder upwards ensure that you look after those you leave downwards as they will be able to catch you when a calamity falls on you. No offense but I have noticed that those people occupying higher authority, have a tendency of thinking that they do not need anybody whose below them.  I believe that life is a vicious circle. You never know when someone will come and give you a helping hand simply because you helped them at some point in life. You may not be the direct beneficiary of that help but it could be your children or indeed someone close to you. Some of the favours I have personally received are a result of my late father’s goodwill. People have told me that we have done this for you not because you deserve it but out of appreciation of your late fathers’ good standing with us.

Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals and values are in balance” – Brian Tracy. One of the key areas of personal development and success is knowing what your value set are. Your values form an important aspect of your character. It is your character and will that eventually drives you to your life’s goals. I encourage you to set goals for your life and just be a student of your self. Know yourself as much as possible and take action to correct the areas of your life that you think need correction. Lastly, if this site is an encouragement to you, please feel free to share it. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and counted”.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

We live in a society that is constantly evolving and therefore, it is important that we adapt to change in order that we enhance our personal development and growth. Change is inevitable especially with the continuous advancement of technology and information gathering. It is very unwise to have a rigid mind that does not easily accept change. Most of us are in this category. You should keep an open mind and focus on the things that will help you achieve your personal goals. Make sure that you make the change as and when necessary in the processes you are imploring to achieving your goals. However, stay focused on the ultimate goal. “It is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change” – Charles Dawin.

The best leaders are those that do realise when to make the change and implement it as and when necessary. In my journey for personal development and growth I have had to make lots of changes in the way I do things without compromising on my personal values and I always keep my focus on my goals. I keep an ear to the ground and am always willing to make the necessary adjustments to accommodate the ever changing environment. Flexibility does not mean you accept failure, it is just one way of doing things quicker and effectively. You will agree with me that a few years ago posting letters was done mainly through the post office where as now we are living in the advent of emails and other technological messaging systems. These have entailed that we drastically change the way we do business. Imagine if you remained behind and still just want to use the post office for sending mails to your clients as opposed to using the various platforms that are quicker. If you are into sales you will definitely be out of business.

Nearly everything has evolved over the last decade or so and it is therefore, inevitable that you have a flexible mind and change the way you conduct your daily business. Being a computer programmer myself who learnt programming in a language called COBOL in the early 90’s I know how much the computer industry had changed. In fact COBOL has been obsolete for a very long time now. If i did not move with time it would have been difficult for me to keep up with the industry. Some of you will agree with me that some of the things you learnt at school a few years ago are no longer applicable now. The key thing about change is that it can either be the better or for worse. You should always understand what the pros and cons are for a certain change before initiating it. Take time to learn and appreciate it.

Keep Learning and improving your skills

As a human beings it is very important that we are continuously learning and keep improving our skills if we are to be relevant to industry. I am always reading and learning new skills on a daily basis. My current target is to read 12 Books by 31st October 2019 as a way of improving my skill set this is on top of my other everyday readings. I will keep reviewing this on a quarterly basis and see how much progress am making. I also want my site to be one of the best personal development and self growth websites in the next five years. To achieve this I have set out to keep reading and learning new technics that will be of value to my readers. This means that for me to rank in the top bracket, the site will need to have very updates in terms of articles. Not just articles but good quality articles that are helpful. I have also noticed that its builds my confidence to talk about the subject of personal development.

Improving your skill set is one major way to improving your chances of achieving your personal goals with more pleasure and less pressure. I know for sure that in the coming months I will be more confident and motivated to write very meaningful articles. I am also currently learning article writing technics. Those of you who have been reading my articles will agree that there is a tremendous improvement with my articles. With the new skills being acquired I also intend to do a major face lift of the earlier articles and bring them up to the desired standard. These are some of the goals that I have set for this website.

I encourage you to take learning and improving your skill sets very seriously regardless of what you are involved in. The most successful people are constantly reading and learning new skills as this is the only way to keep them above the competition. If you are in sales for example it will do you good to learn how to spend more time with your customers who are more promising, so as to close your sales more quickly and efficiently. There are lots of ways you can increase your knowledge. You could either decide to go to school or have a deliberate habit of spending more time reading industry related materials. An investment in your knowledge and putting what you have learned to practice is a sure way of improving your skill set.

Be willing to pay the price

If your goal is a financial one make sure you set a clear price of what you will pay for what you want to earn. If you want to earn a certain amount of money say $5K every month ensure that you begin giving society the equivalent of $5K in value every month. In other words be willing to pay the price. Start with one or two streams of income and broaden them as you get comfortable with the current ones. Be very honest with your self and do not cut corners by doing illegal things. Having multiple streams of income is a very good safe guard as when one stream dries up due to various reasons, you will still have another one generating  income as needed. On this website my major source of income is google adsense. There are a few other affiliate programs that I recommend but currently google adsense seems to be doing much better than all of them. I intend to include more streams as time goes by and as the site starts to generate more traffic.

I am  also pretty sure that as the traffic increases the google ads will generate even more revenue than what is currently obtaining. I hope to publish the income figures in the future. Currently its really nothing to talk about. The encouraging thing is that if I can generate $1 per day then I think it is possible to generate $2, $3, $4 per day and so on. I just have to keep working hard, until I get the desired results before moving on to implement the other streams. I have noticed that those who are financial sound do not just have one source of income but they have learned to have multiple sources of income doing what they love most.

I believe that it takes time and effort to build something worthwhile, this am determined to achieve and very motivated to seeing it come to pass. Like I said in my earlier articles this website is just one way of my contribution to the world. It is my prayer that everyone who reads my articles at least gets inspired by them. I have so far written 99 articles averaging 1,000 words per article this is a whooping 99,000 words on this website, Wow.

Experiment with change

Human beings are always fearful of change and usually do not like it. Change always brings with it a lot of things and mostly we are reluctant to change for fear of failure. Remember failure is just an opportunity to do things differently. We must learn to embrace change and be able to adjust accordingly. It is also important to experiment with change and focus on the opportunities it brings along. We are always fearful to change especially when we think we do not have adequate knowledge and expertise to go along with it. Sometimes it is just that we are accustomed to doing things in a certain way and sudden need to change our habits is usually un comfortable. I know how frustrating it maybe. I have been their before.

What I have noticed so far is that change always requires us to learn new things and puts a challenge on our abilities. I guess life would have been very boring without change. In your daily endeavours I encourage you to experiment especially in the area of technology, before you fully implement the new one. This will give you a better understanding of the new changes and what is actually required and expected of you. At the rate we are going in the field of technology I am always one of the last people to jump on the new changes. I will be very honest with you I have never been a fun of microsoft windows 10. I find it very difficult to navigate through and always struggle when am using it. But I guess that at some point windows 7 & 8 will be obsolete and I will have to make the change.

As human beings we need to accept mistakes and make the necessary adjustments. Experimenting comes with a lot of mistakes and the only way we can quickly move on is to accept them. It does not help much to start pointing fingers on who is wrong and who is right but rather focus on correcting the mistake. This is true especially if you are in a leadership position. Besides the success or failure of a group is all credited to the leader. A good leader takes responsibility especially for the failures of a team, he will give credit to the team for its successes.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer. You cannot stop the wind of change when it blows in your direction regardless of what you are doing. If you want to grow exponentially you need to learn how to embrace change and work to improve your skills. Remember that change always comes with various opportunities and you should always be on the look out to identifying and benefiting from them. A good leader always reads ahead of his followers and is quick to give direction in the advent of the ever changing environment.  I hope you will keep an open mind and be flexible to embracing change as the will help you to “standout tall and be counted”.

Personal Development Success

Your confidence is key to success

“It’s not the mountain we conquer but our selves”~ Edmund Hillary. “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without confidence” ~ Hellen Keller. Success cannot be achieved without confidence. I have learned that most successful people are the ones with confidence. You cannot set out to do something and succeed without the backing of confidence. If you luck confidence there is a very high likelihood that whatever, endeavour you have embarked on will not be a success this is surely a guarantee. In this article I will show you how to develop the confidence you need to succeed. Read 5 ways to improve your self-confidence.

It’s absolutely vital that you develop the confidence and self-belief that you will achieve your goals. Self-belief is very crucial to succeed. I am not talking about being arrogant and ignoring feedback from other people and thinking you are infallible or invisible. Am talking about having a balanced view of yourself that does not indulge in false modesty and self-pity, and an inner view that is not strong enough to be crushed and defeated when someone challenges you.

The thing is; to succeed you must develop the mind-set and confidence to achieve your goals. If you’re really are serious about succeeding you cannot afford to wallow in negative thoughts of “I am not good enough”. Here are a few tips to help you develop your confidence.

Self-talk is perhaps the most important step towards developing self-confidence. What to tell your self has more bearing than what other people tell you. Remember you are what you think. The bible says “as man thinketh so is he in his heart”.  Develop the attitude of talking positively to yourself. It helps to keep telling yourself that you can do it, you can do it. Usually when am working on a task I keep reminding myself of the benefits that accruals when a task is achieved.

I usually remind myself early in the morning that I can achieve all the tasks that I have laid down. Yes I will come across obstacles but my mind is prepared for the tasks ahead. You should try having a to do list every morning and see how that helps you towards achieving your intended goals. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” ~ the bible. This is my prayer every morning. Try personalising this saying and say how your confidence levels will be improved.

Your behaviour matters
What you think about and what you say to yourself has a profound bearing on your behaviour and on what happens to you. Your thoughts, attitudes and behaviours towards your ability to achieve your goals, have an impact on your expectation of the situation. In turn your expectation will impact on the way you behave in a given situation. People will just respond to your behaviours. “The most powerful forces of Nature are the invisible forces, so we find that the most powerful forces of man are his invisible forces, his spiritual force, and the only way in which the spiritual force can manifest is through the process of thinking” ~ the Master Key.

Am sure we’ve all known someone if not ourselves, who has been worrying about something they have to do and have constantly spoken how badly it’s going to go and when it does go badly they jump and exclaim “I knew” that would happen. You see all along they did not realise that they created their own self-fulfilling prophesy. There is power in thoughts and words. Always be mindful of what to say.

Focus on the things you do well
Take stock of your skills set and attributes that you already possess. In other words know your weaknesses and strengths and focus on improving your strengths. The idea is when you set out to do a task and accomplish it very well there is a sense of wellbeing and satisfaction. This is not to say that you should neglect to improve on your weakness. But focusing on doing the things you do better can highly improve your motivation and confidence levels.

I have listed down the some personal questions to help you identify your skill set and attributes if you are not sure of them. Write down the answers and keep on reviewing them. Make sure you answer the questions honestly.

  • What am I good at?
  • What have I received compliments and positive feedback for in the past?
  • What do people value me for? (Compare this with what you value yourself for).
  • What challenges have I overcome in the past?
  • What skills helped me to overcome the challenges?
  • What have I achieved in the past that I perhaps thought I couldn’t?

“We see things not as they are but as we are” ~ H. M. Tomlinson. As human beings I have noticed that we judge other people by our own standards. Believe me if you have set yourself a high standard that is what you expect to get from other people and nothing less.

Be inspired by other people
One of the things that has always inspired and given me confidence to succeed is by looking at and reading about other people who have made it. Find yourself some role models whom you admire and whose story of success inspires you. A role model does not necessarily have to be alive or known personally. It could be someone you have read about or someone who does not even know you. Most successful people have written books about their lives. Find some literature about them and read it.

A good role model will show you the following attributes

  • Their attitude and approach
  • Where and how they started
  • How they made the most of their abilities
  • How they handle their success
  • How they overcome challenges

Always remind yourself these too were or are human beings just like you and me. If they can make it why shouldn’t you make it?

I hope and trust that you have learned one or two things from this article. Let me end by emphasising that you cannot succeed without having self-belief and the confidence to carry you on. I have not come across a successful person without self-belief and no confidence. I challenge you set out intended purpose in life and start pursuing it with confidence and always remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

To succeed you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you”. ~ Tony Dorset. Many of us have read a great deal on the subject of success and what it takes to be successful in whatever you intend to be. You will agree with me that there are thousands and thousands of books on success and it’s requirements, after all we all want to be successful in our endevours. I want to humbly contribute by giving a practical experience on the subject. Success does not come without motivation and inspiration. I have never come across a successful person who has no inspiration and motivation.

We are all motivated and inspired by something or someone. The difference is that those who succeed keep the fire burning were as most of you quench the fire even before you get started. Below I have outlined three things that will help improve and keep you motivated. Surely the road to success is definitely not an easy one.

• Self motivation
To become self motivated means to get out of the beaten path, out of the rut, because extraordinary results require extraordinary means. I describe self motivation as the fuel to keeping your dream alive. The more motivated you are the more you keep working and getting closer towards realizing your dream.

To keep yourself motivation high, write down your intended purpose and keep it somewhere you can easily access and read it often. In Napoleon Hills’ book “Think and Grow Rich” he advises that you read it on a daily basis. Just like in a car fuel runs out every now and again and the car needs refueling. Self motivation must be kept alive. Remember it is the fuel to keeping your dream alive.

I have written my intended purpose in life and I keep referring to it on a regular basis. At least 3 or 4 times a week. This way I keep reminding myself of what I should be doing on a daily basis in order that I achieve my purpose.

• What is your goal
Surely success cannot be attained without a goal. I would like to believe that all people who have succeeded have had goals imbibed somewhere. I prefer writing down in black and white cause I believe there is power in writing.

At first your goal may not be as clear as you want it to be, but still write it down anyway. You will notice that along the way you begin to make adjustments to it as you become clearer. Your written down intended purpose is your target and goal. You only make adjustments to the way you are going to achieve it. If your goal for example is to raise $10m in 10 years you must state how you intend to raise this amount of money and start working towards achieving your goal.

The best way to achieving your intended purpose is to be engaged in an activity you enjoy most. This will give you added pleasure and you will be able to produce your very best as you go about your activities. Remember it is easier to do something you enjoy best than what you do not enjoy.

• Be dedicated
My last advice is dedication. How then can you succeed without being dedicated? Goals are achieved through dedication. The time you spend to prepare for an exam will ultimately show when the results are released. Success does not come on a silver plate. There are a lot of sacrifices that are made for you to succeed.

I will go back to the example of raising $10m in 10 years. If that is your goal you will need to adjust your spending and cut out on all an unnecessary expenditure. You will also need to be dedicated on an activity or activities that will help you raise your money and be faithful to saving on a regular basis. Dedication is no easy task.

Improving your motivation and better still keeping motivated is an important part of success. You cannot be successful without being motivated and inspired. The 3 things outlined above are some of the ways I use to help improve my motivation. I believe that there are many ways that can be used to help improve your motivation and do hope that you enjoyed reading my article and find it helpful. Like I always say “standout tall and be counted” you deserve it.

Improve your self esteem part 2

This is the final part in a two part series. In the first part I mentioned the importance of having goals; principles and success experiences and how these impact on your self esteem. I will mention the remaining 3 that is comparison with others; recognition and rewards and how these affect your self esteem.

Comparison with others

The fourth element of self-esteem is comparison with others. Leon’s study concluded that in determining how well we are doing, we do not compare ourselves with abstract principles and standards, but, rather, we compare ourselves with people we know. To feel like a winner, you must know for sure that you are doing as well as or better than someone else. The more you know about how well the others in your field are doing, and the more favorably you compare with them, the more you will feel like a winner, and the higher your self-esteem will be.

Successful people continually compare themselves with other successful people. In order to succeed you must have a mentor. They think about them and read about them and study their performances, and then they work towards improving their own failures. The best competition you cash have is yourself. Begin to compete with your previously achieved goals and improve on them. I believe that success is not a destination but a long journey.

“When we come into a recognition of the Unity of all things and that the source of all power is within, we tap the source of inspiration” ~ Charles Haanel. The next element for self- esteem is recognition of your accomplishments by people whom you respect. To feel really great about yourself, you need the recognition of people you look up to and admire, such as your boss, your coworkers, your spouse and people in your social circle. Whenever you are recognized and praised for any accomplishment by someone whose opinion you hold in high regard, your self-esteem goes up, along with your eagerness and enthusiasm to do even better on the job. We all need a pat on back for the work well done. I am sure you have been to places were even when you have done your very best no one comes to congratulate or encourage you. It feels like you are just wasting your time and energy.

Recognition is a very nice feeling. Most of what we do if not everything, we all want to be recognized for it. At least I am talking about myself.

Don’t we all want to be rewarded for our efforts? The final element of self-esteem involves rewards that are consistent with your accomplishments. You may work in a field where you receive financial bonuses, status symbols—larger offices, bigger cars—or even plaques and trophies for superior achievement. All of those symbols can have an incredible impact on raising your self-esteem and causing you to feel terrific about yourself. Expecting to be rewarded for your efforts comes naturally.

If, however, your existing situation does not offer the tangible or intangible rewards that are necessary for you to build and maintain your self-esteem, you must create rewards for yourself. One of the smartest things you can do is to design a system for giving yourself rewards for both small and large accomplishments as you move progressively toward your goals.

Whether or not your current environment provides the six elements of selfesteem improvement that is goals, principles, success experiences, comparison with others, recognition, and rewards; you need to establish your own structure and take full responsibility for building and improving yourself up on a regular basis.

When you have that foundation, you will experience a form of mental fitness and unshakable optimism that will sustain you through failure and propel you to success.

Improving your self esteem should be like physical exercising. To achieve and enjoy your life’s purpose you need to cultivate a high self esteem. Generally people with a high self esteem are more likeable and live a happier life than those with a low self esteem. Like I always say that personal development of self growth does not come over night so is a high self esteem. Keep working on your self esteem. You will never say I have arrived at the destination of high self esteem it is a continuous journey. Bye for now always remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

Improve your self esteem part 1

Your self-esteem is probably the most important part of your personality. “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence” ~ Helen Keller. It is the energy source or the reactor core of your personality, and how much self-esteem you have determines your levels of vitality, enthusiasm and personal magnetism. I have noticed that people with a high self-esteem are more positive, more likable and more effective in every part of their lives.

Everything that you do or say or think affects your self-esteem. It is important therefore, that you guard your self esteem jealously by having the right frame of mind on a continuous basis. Probably the best definition of self-esteem is “the level to which you respect and value yourself as an important, worthwhile person”. How much value to do you put on yourself? The value will usually be determined by the kind of life you lead. It is your level of mental fitness.

To be at your best and feel terrific about yourself, you should be in a perpetual state of self-esteem building and maintenance. Just as you take responsibility for your level of physical fitness, you need to take complete responsibility for the content and quality of your mind.

I have developed a simple formula that contains all the critical elements of self-esteem building, and you can use it on a regular basis to ensure maximum performance. This formula is comprised of six basic elements. They are: goals, principles, success experiences, comparison with others, recognition, and rewards.

“Goals allow you to control the direction of change in your favor”. How much you like and respect yourself is directly affected by your goals. The very act of setting big, challenging goals for yourself and making written plans of action to achieve them actually raises your self-esteem, which causes you to feel much better about yourself. It is important to set goals for your life. Imagine how nice it would be like to play a video of your life and you being the main character achieving your goals one at a time.

Self-esteem is a condition you experience when you are moving step-by-step toward the accomplishment of something that is important to you. For that reason, it’s really important to have clear goals for each part of your life and to continually work toward achieving those goals. Each progressive step causes your self-esteem to go up and makes you feel even more positive and effective in everything else you do.

The second element in self-esteem building is having clear principle and values to which you are committed. I think that we all or rather a normal thinking person has their own set principles. These I believe are the driving force of each and every one of us. The difference is the level of commitment. Men and women with high self-esteem are very clear about what they believe in. The higher your values and ideals are, and the more committed you are to living your life consistent with those values and ideals, the more you will like and respect yourself, and the higher your self-esteem will be.

Lasting self-esteem comes only when your goals and your values are congruent-that is, when they fit into each other like a hand into a glove. Much of the stress that people experience comes from believing one thing and trying to do another. But when your goals and values are in harmony with each other, you feel a wonderful surge of energy and well-being, and that’s when you start to make real progress.

Success experiences

“My definition of success is to live your life in a way that causes you to feel a ton of pleasure and very little pain – and because of your lifestyle, have the people around you feel a lot more pleasure than they do pain” ~ Tony Robins. The third element in self-esteem improvement involves having success experiences. Once you have set your goals and principles, it is important that you make them measurable so that you can keep score of your small and large successes along the way. The very act of setting up a goal, breaking it down into smaller parts, and then completing those parts makes you feel like a winner and causes your self-esteem to go up. But remember that you can’t hit a target you can’t see. You can’t feel like a winner unless you clearly lay out the standards by which you are going to measure your success and then achieve those standards.

Let’s say that you set a goal to sell a certain amount or earn a certain amount of income in a given year. If you break that down into monthly and weekly goals, and then you achieve the first of those goals, you will feel great about yourself. Each time you reach another milestone, your self-esteem and ability to perform will increase, and you will feel encouraged and enthusiastic about the next challenge. The key is to keep encouraging yourself with tangible results. The more tangible results you can see the more self esteem you buildup.

This is a two part article and I thought to end here. In the final article am talking about the remaining elements that is comparison with others; recognition and rewards. There is more you could do to improve your self esteem. Having a high self esteem is the gateway to a better life and living. It does not matter what you are or what you have when you put on a high self esteem you can move mountains. Until next time “standout tall and be counted”.

5 Ways to improve your confidence

This is one of my long articles. Feel free to bookmark it and come back later to finish reading it. Self-confidence is something that people find difficult to have. There are people who find low self-confidence influences the way they see themselves and their performance. Contrary to what most people think, self confidence is not something that only the gifted and blessed could have.  With the help of personal mastery, individuals could now start building on their self-confidence. “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face” Eleanor Roosevelt. Self confidence is a requisite to personal development. Having an improved self-confidence can really improve your general work out put.

Personal mastery is about self-development and self-improvement. It is about loving yourself and accepting yourself as you are. You need to acknowledge your weaknesses and at the same time strengthen them. To improve your self confidence it is important to know and accept your weaknesses. I believe that identifying your weaknesses is the first step to personal improvement. Many of the times we like to ignore our weaknesses and concentrate mainly on perfecting our strengths. I have written down my weaknesses and strengths and keep reviewing them from time and again. I have found this very helpful and would recommend it to anyone.

To attain personal mastery and confidence, it is important to believe in yourself. It is also important to be content with yourself. Self belief and contentment lead to building a solid self-confidence. It is very difficult to achieve personal development without being content with yourself. To develop self-confidence, self-acceptance should occur.  Self-acceptance is about accepting not only the good things in life, but also the failures in life. Failure is only failure if accepted. You must always treat failure as a learning curve. When you fail the first time re-organise yourself, analyse your failure and move on. Do not stop at failure.

And now the suggested five ways to help you improve your self-confidence

Understand your thoughts and emotions

Many of us find it very difficult to understand our thoughts and emotions, yet understanding these can unlock huge potentials for improving self confidence. Forgetting about a bad habit or behaviour would make us more aware about our thoughts and emotions. By becoming aware of our emotions and behaviour, then we will be able to overcome and correct our behaviour. Behavioural control and correction is one of the key important elements to improving self confidence. I have noticed that a lack of confidence is mainly our negative behaviour and most of the times we are very aware of it. It is very rare that if you put on your positive behaviour you will experience a low self confidence.

Understanding your emotions is very critical. Your emotions will usually dictate your mood. It is therefore important that we always try to replace our negative emotions with good ones. A few practical ways to know your emotions is to observe and write down the feelings and emotions you experience; observe and or write down the preceding events and duration of your emotions. I have noticed with time that my emotions are largely affected by my thoughts. Hence I always try to keep my thoughts positive.

By knowing the root cause for your emotions you can learn to take control of them. Flee from sorrowful emotions and make the decision to improve your mood. You deserve to be happy.

Self discipline

Self discipline is perhaps the number one factor for self growth. Without discipline very little can be achieved in life. I have not come across a successful who is indisciplined. When we set our goals on achieving our intended purposes in life, discipline and focus in what keeps us from swaying away from them. We graduate from school because we are disciplined to study hard.

Changing attitude and behaviour, or even perspective might take a while. Change does not happen overnight. You need to gather enough knowledge and start learning and practicing the skills that you would like to improve and develop. To do this you need to be disciplined. This is an essential ingredient that is found wanting in many of us. Discipline comes through self control. This means that one must control negative qualities.

Have a clear vision

To be able to move forward in your life, it is important to have clarity. Have a purpose written down. Seeing what you want to have in a clearer image would encourage you to work for it. That is why it is important that you write down your intended purpose in life and read it every day. I would encourage you read it every night. I read my every night before going to sleep.

Having a defined purpose in life, acts as a guide and motivation for living. I know that most of us live by the day. If you do not have a defined purpose and vision for yourself I would encourage you to think about formulating one. At first your vision might not be as clear as possible but just start working on it. You will begin to see a clearer picture of your destination. You will be amazed at how much self-confidence you can have just by writing down your intended purpose in life.

You have a choice

You can choose what you want to experience. Doing something important for you and something you love, would give you enough confidence to continue with what you have started. The beauty about being human is that God gave us a choice. You have the will to choose whatever you want to be. You can choose to be confident or not. We are made up of the choices we make in life. If you take a look at yourself you will realize that you are where you are because of the choices you have previously made.

It is their wise to make choices that are self building. I know that some choices are difficult to make but, remember that choices are there to be made and they have to be made. You have a choice and the choice is yours. Bear in mind that the choices we make today have a direct effect on our tomorrow. We are continuously shaping our future by the choices we are making today.

Commitment and trusting

To be able to attain personal mastery for development and growth, you need to trust yourself that you can undergo the process and commit yourself on the process.

When developing self-confidence through personal mastery, we would have to develop some characteristics. We would develop self awareness, which is about our readiness to look at our past, accept it and the same goes for the present.  Aside from this, we also develop self-knowledge which is about understanding our past and our attitude. Not only should we understand them but also be able to comprehend the basis for such attitude or experience. Last, we develop self discipline.  Self-discipline is about how we make sure that our goals and vision are translated in action and achieved.  We need self discipline to make sure that we do not back-out just because of simple and little disappointments and setbacks.

Building self-confidence can’t be done on just a snap. Self-improvement is a never-ending process. There are people who even acknowledge that self-improvement can last even for a life-time.  Sometimes, we can only say that we are fully masterful of our life if we have reached our dreams and goals. Improving our confidence can help with growth and eventually with success. We just need to continue with our dreams and be patient and so always “standout tall and be counted”.
