Life is like a seed that needs to be nurtured

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but, by the seeds you plant” – Robert Louis Stevenson. Our attitude about the future depends on our ability to see the future. Each of us has the inherent ability to dream, design, and experience the future through our hopeful imagination. Whatever the mind has the capacity to imagine, it also has the ability to create. All human beings carry a seed to create. They say all growth is from within. You see we all carry the seed to succeed and grow in whatever we put our mind on. In other words life is like a seed. If you look around, you will realise that there is nothing that was not created. Believe it or not, everything you see was first conceived as a seed.

The question you might be asking is if we all carry the seed of success why is it that only a few people are successful? Well the biggest challenge with most of us is that we let the seed go to waste. We do not take good care of it. You see for any seed to grow, it must be nurtured and nourished. This is the process that we do not want to undertake. Nurturing and nourishing a seed takes a lot of time, discipline and is hard work.

Recently I started a small backyard garden. I have been growing plants from seeds. It has taken me close to 3 months to grow pepper, from seed to now almost harvest time. I have not yet harvested it and anything could go wrong before then. So not until we have enjoyed the first harvest, we have not yet enjoyed the benefits of our labour.

I believe that life is like a tree. It starts as a seed and grows into a tree. Any seed has the potential to grow into a tree. However, whether the seed will grow into a tree and produce good fruit or not will depend on the quality of the nutrients. See for any seed to sprout and grow it needs dirt or better still soil otherwise if left open the sun will burn it. Now soil contains nutrients that are necessary for the growth of the seed. I believe it takes a lot of energy for the small seed to push it’s self up from the under ground to the surface. And better still it has to adapt to the different weather patterns and conditions to grow and start bearing good fruit.

Nurture and nourish that seed

Whatever that you want to do in life is like a seed. If you want to be successful at whatever, you need to understand that it takes hard and smart work to achieve it. Look, “somewhere in the Kafue National Park every morning arises an impala that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Lion or it will be eaten and die that day, in the same National Park arises a Lion that realises that it must run faster than the fastest Impala or it will starve and die that day”. The moral of the story is that no matter what you do in life you have to run.

No matter who you are you have to run. The running symbolises the work that you have to do on a daily basis. If you’ve had the opportunity to watch national geographics and observed how both the Impala and the Lion run. You will realise that they do not just run in a straight line.

Life will throw things at you. It is therefore, important that you learn how to meander throw those obstacles. Believe me learning to meander through life is not easy. We are constantly learning and adapting to life on a daily basis. If you are not changing with time then, you are not improving and are most likely to remain behind. It could be the reason why you have stagnated in life.

The dirt or soil symbolises the hard work. This is the hardest part. To make the soil more fertile and conducive for the seed, takes learning and discipline. This helps you build character. Now that you have character with time and endurance you will have nurtured and nourished your ideas and will give birth to your plans or project. Before you know it you will be reaping the fruits of your labour. The hardest part however, is the nurturing and nourishing part. I believe that every good thing takes time. Most of us do not want to endure the soil. We do not want the dirt being thrown at us. We want to skip from seed to fruit.

Allow God to be at the centre of your plans

The bible says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29. This is huge for me. To me it is clear that what ever plans we have before we implement them we must put them before God. Ultimately the Lord knows what he has planned for us. It is therefore, imperative that we conform with the plans of the lord for our lives. Allowing God to lead is just wonderful. Yes sometimes we miss it and get off target and yes sometimes things do not go as we want them. The bigger picture is that God knows what is best for our us. Am human just like you and sometimes I question God when things are not going as I expect them.

The comforting thing is that God always makes a way where there seems to be no way. Allow me to say that God is a teacher and accepts anyone as they are. The beauty with following God is that it is at your own free will. I have made mistakes and some of the things am not proud of. But I know that he accepts me just the way I am.

Conclusion

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” – Proverbs. Do not let those plans; those seeds that you have go waste. You have a duty or rather a responsibility to ensure that you do not deprive the world of them. Lastly we should should learn to give thanks and praise to the Lord because he gives us the opportunity to live and go on with our lives. Thank you and remember to standout tall and be counted.

To change is to be progressive

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer. Change comes from within. To ignore change is to accept defeat. Successful people are those who embrace change. Without change there is no meaningful success. I guess change is an agent of success. Before success, comes change. If you intend to succeed at anything you are involved with, you cannot expect to achieve different results if you are doing the same thing’s that make you fail. One of the biggest stumbling block to achieving our goals, be it personal; organisational and indeed financial, is a luck of change in our attitude. John F. Kennedy once said “change is the law of life and those who look only to the past and the present are certain to miss the future”.

I personally have failed before, actually many times and I keep failing on a daily basis. One of my latest shortcomings is not being able to fulfill the challenge to publish 29 articles in the month of February as promised. Have I given up on the challenge? No. The shortfall taught me to set reasonable and achievable targets. It was a worthwhile target but, one that needed a lot of time and dedication to implement. However, I reserve it for the future. I now know what adjustments are needed to make, for a challenge of that magnitude and nature.

Learn from every challenge

There are many lessons I took from the previous challenge. However, I will mention just a few here. The biggest one being that I needed a lot of time and dedication. But during the implementation period I was faced with a lot of time constraints. I could not devote enough of my time to writing articles, as there were other more pressing matters to be attended to. This is not to negate the importance I attach to this website. In fact the plan for this website is to grow it to be the number one stop for personal development and growth materials. It is more of a long term than short term project. However, the other matters were short term and more of a physical nature and they really drained my energy.

I needed to come up with a practical way of article writing, regularly or better still on a daily basis. Unfortunately I stayed in my comfort zone. I now need to move out of my comfort zone if I have to fulfill the vision and plan for this website. It is also my plan to write and post articles that I feel add value to my readers. In other words I write content for people not for the search engines. With the lessons learned this far I hope to begin to show that movement out of my comfort zone. I now know without a shadow doubt that I do not expect to achieve my goals without a radical change.

The other lesson learned is that I lost my focus. They were times that I could have written something but lacked total concentration. To write valuable content you need to be relaxed and focused and let your thoughts flow on paper. My friends who are artists will agree with me that you need to be focused and inspired when write a song later alone sing it.

You have the capacity to change

Do not doubt your ability to change. We all have the capacity and ability to change. If you want to achieve anything, you will need to change and adapt your ways and mentality to winning ways. I believe that there is no short cut to achieving our dreams. Hard work or rather smart work is the key. The bible says “do not despise the days of your small beginnings” – Zechariah 4:10. A journey of a 1000 miles starts with one step in the right direction. Emphasis is the first step. The first step is as important as the last step.

You will not move a mile if you do not take the first step. Every step that you take counts towards your goal. Every small change that you make is important. You have the capacity to make those small adjustments and before you know it you will have made bigger adjustments.

Any change that you make is progressive. Every one of us can be progressive by changing one thing at a time, no matter how small. I know for a fact that all of us have things we want to change. There is no perfect individual on this earth. One of the many mistakes we make is wanting to succeed without changing our ways. I find this totally impossible. I believe that success comes with change.

How do we prepare for the future

There are many factors that should be considered when preparing for our future. Some of them are beyond our control. However, we must always endeavour to change those things that are in our control. Brian Tracy says “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you”. I believe that we all have a chance at succeeding. I also believe that life gives each and everyone of us a second chance.

A lot of things that will help shape our future are within our own grasp. Most of us miss the opportunity to help shape our own future through foolish decision and end up making mistakes that come to haunt us. I know that sometimes the mistakes we make can be very fatal. But, remember that we all make mistakes and the most successful people have learnt from their own mistakes.

The most important ingredient to success is to make the change and stop making the same mistakes over and over. Decide today to make the change and start moving towards a better life. It is never too late to make the change. Start by accepting that you are responsible for your own life. Acknowledge that you owe it to yourself to live a better life. Stop blaming your parents for what they never gave you; your government for the limited opportunities; your siblings for not sharing or indeed your spouse. You are totally responsible for everything that you do. Go out there and conquer the world.

I strongly believe that there is more than enough wealth in the world to go round. If we all played our part we could help change the world for the better. The world today is short of so many things. You are the solution to some of the challenges being faced. Dig deep within you and unleash that solution that the world is so craving for. Dr. Myles Monroe says “the richest place on earth is the grave yard”. Because buried there, are dreams and ideas that were never realised.

Conclusion

If we don’t change we don’t grow, if we don’t grow we aren’t really living” – Gail Sheehy. In order for us to make meaningful achievements we must set goals. As a human being you should have your own personal development goals; relationship goals; financial goals and above all spiritual goals. We must never forget that God loves us all regardless of our ethnicity and what our past holds. As I conclude and in view of the current outbreak of the COVID-19, I encourage you to keep our medical personnel and leaders in prayers. We can also play a very important part by staying at home and keeping a social distance. Let us all standout and be counted in the fight against this pandemic. GOD BLESS.

Nothing is perfect the first time

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

There is nothing that was created or invented by man that was perfected the first time. Everything that we do or have done is never perfect the first time. All the nice buildings and all the beautiful things that are man-made were not perfect at the first attempt. A lot of planning, research, rebuilding and hard work had to be undertaken. That is why there is a constant quest for improvement of the gadgets that we use daily. The gadgets that were more valuable in the last 5 or 10 years may now be obsolete. This is the same as in the journey of life and in the pursuit of personal development and self-improvement, one must always strive to continuously seek to improve themselves. They say practice makes perfect. Nature requires and usually compels us to move on. However, we decide the direction of that movement. If you look back at your life five years ago, you will agree that there is a change and the direction of that change was sorely influenced by yourself. You are the driver of that change.

Nothing is perfect if things were perfect there would be no need for continuous improvement. There would be no need for research and development. However, nature is perfect and nature is neutral. We get from nature what we give it. If you are optimistic nature gives you back optimism; if you are positive you get exactly that; if you are expectant you will meet with expectation. In other words, you get your hearts desires. The Bible says “ask and you shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened”.

I don’t know about you, but I know that am still very much a work in progress. Am far from being a perfect role model and forgive me if at all, I present myself as perfect, it is not my intention. Every day comes with its challenges and I am continuously learning new things. I keep an open mind and have learned to focus on the positive things in life. I am always grateful to God almighty for allowing me to serve him daily. Every day that we are alive is a gift and an opportunity to make a difference. Yes, life will give you what you did not anticipate, but you have the right to make a choice. You may not know it but some people are worse off than you are right now. There are people you can help even in your current situation.

Continue to doing something to change your current situation

A successful individual typically sets his next goal somewhat, but not too much above his last achievement. In this way, he steadily raises his level of aspiration” – Kurt Lewin. Success does not come to those who wait for it; neither does it come to those who are lazy. If you want to achieve your life’s intended purpose you must work towards achieving them. The important thing is to get started and work daily. Do something daily that helps you move closer to achieving your desired life’s purpose. slowly but surely you will meet with success as you continue to improve on your daily activities.

The trouble is many of us want to be financially independent yet are not willing to work hard and smart to achieve our dreams. We instead complain about how hard life is and how things are not going well for us. We expect life to be easy and yet are not willing to pay the price now for a better future. Remember that nature is neutral and it gives you back what you give it. If you want to achieve financial freedom, you should be willing to pay the price for it. Everything that you want to achieve has a price tag. Nature will pay you back the exact price that you are willing to pay.

Over the years I have learned that the key to achieving your desired life’s goals is to firstly realise, that no one is responsible for your current situation but yourself, in other words, you must take responsibility of your situation. Acknowledge that you are mostly responsible for being in the current situation and secondly do something to change it, because if you don’t, no one is going to change it for you. Yes, it may be tough but it can be done. The Bible says “do not despise the days of your humble beginnings”. To succeed you need to start small and be persistent. Be prepared to fail the first time and learn from your mistakes. Keep on improving. Refuse to accept failure. They say “Rome was not built in one day” but neither was it built in two days. The small things that you do daily count towards achieving your goals. Yes, life will throw things at you, but do not be discouraged, there is always something to be learned from the difficult situations. Remember that God always provides a way where there seems to be no way. There is nothing too big or too small for God. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.

I know that sometimes we may feel that things are not going accordingly. That is the time to double your efforts because after every storm the sea is calm. The Bible says “weeping may stay for the night but rejoicing comes in the morning”. Life is full of ups and downs. If you have been following my blog for some time you will notice that my earlier articles were not as refined as the current ones. I would confidently say that there is a great improvement in both the content and quality of the articles. The improvement did not come without a cost. I had to put in the time. This, however, does not mean that my articles are perfect, but they have improved over time. Although I know that there is always room for improvement. As such am always seeking to make the necessary changes. My dream is for this website to be the number one destination for personal development and self-development materials and articles.

We are responsible for the state of our communities

If you believe that you are responsible for being in your current situation then it is also true that you are directly or indirectly responsible for the current state of your society or country at large. I know this may sound ridiculous but I think it is the truth. Whether we like it or not we have a part to play in developing and shaping the direction our societies and countries at large. We may be complaining about the poor service delivery of the various government departments. But if we wait for help from the government it may never come and it surely takes a very long time before it comes. Why can we not do something about it ourselves? After all, we are the ones that are greatly affected. We can contribute to society in so many ways. There are many avenues out there that can be used to help improve society. If we are to see meaningful change, we must be the change carriers. Change begins with you and me, changing our ways and influencing other people.

For example, we could start by restoring our families. I know that many of us our families are hurting and broken. I believe that at the foundation of every prosperous society is a strong family bond. If you are a parent and have neglected your family it is high time you started taking responsibility for your family. Your children need you more than ever before. Do not be an absentee parent. You may be going through a bad patch in your life but that is no reason to abandon them. It is time to show them how responsible you are. It is the time to reassure them and let them stand with you. There is nothing more satisfying than spending time with your loved ones.  There are many broken homes out there and this has resulted in broken societies.

Be patient with yourself

To grow we must learn to be patient with ourselves. Growth is not instant but gradual. I always say that all growth is from within. That is why we are all born babies and grow to adulthood with time. There is a time for everything. A time to play, a time to study and a time to grow. We start but crawling before we stand and start to walk. We learn or acquire skills before we start using them. God has given us time to learn and prepare ourselves for the challenges that lie ahead. God has also equipped us with the necessary requisites to cope with life’s challenges. Be patient and allow yourself to enjoy what you are doing. Remember that not everything you are doing now will have instant results. You do certain tasks for future results. You acquire certain skills and knowledge that will come in handy in the future.

Conclusion

Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose your ability to learn new things and move forward in your life” – Dr. David M. Burns. With time and effort, you will achieve your desired results. Always remember that perfection is not achieved at the first go. It takes time, patience, persistence and dedication to achieve it. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

There is no safety in the “comfort Zone”

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Life requires that we move on while our human nature dictates that we remain in our “comfort zone”.  Unfortunately our comfort zone does not provide for growth. When you remain in your comfort zone chances are that you will never grow. You are most likely to going to live a non fulfilling life. If you have to contribute meaningfully to society, and to your own well being, you have to move out of your comfort zone and explore the world. Explore the unknown and be bruised and battered to create your own safety zone. Those that make it in life are those that embrace challenges. Unfortunately most of us do not embrace challenges. We would rather complain and do nothing about it.

Most successful people have moved out of their comfort zone and are sailing the deep waters of the sea. They are enjoying the exploits of the sea called life. Where as most of us are scared of exploring the unknown world. We would rather remain in our “comfort zone” which is not even comfortable when you come to think of it. We see our friends progress and are envious of them. I feel that it is rather unfair to world that we demand to see change when we are doing nothing about it. If you want to see change be the change agent yourself.

I believe that change begins with you. It actually begins with a change of attitude in your thinking. All growth is the sum total of the small things that we do and have accomplished on a daily basis. Human beings are like a ship. To know the strength of a ship it must leave the safe harbour and sail the deep waters. The ship must be able to stand the stormy weather and sail back to the safe harbour.

You are the captain of that ship. You must learn to navigate through life and overcome the obstacles that come your way. It is only by exploring the world around that we discover many new and exciting things. I think that when God created us he designed us to explore and learn the world. If you want to grow in a certain area of your life you need to leave your comfort zone and start exploring new ways to improve.

Why should we explore the world?

You will agree with me that life was meant to be enjoyed. You cannot enjoy life to the fullest by being in the same position. One of the best ways to derive satisfaction in life is by exploring the world around you. Many of us are even dead scared to move to new places. We would rather die in one place and not explore new places. I am one person that has always enjoyed travelling. It is through travelling that I discovered that there is more life out there than in the city.

There is more natural beauty out there. God created us to be explorers of this world. There are more opportunities to be of service out there than where you are. I have discovered that the greatest joy one can derive from life is being of service to humanity. You will agree with me that when people appreciate your work it gives you more joy and satisfaction. The y say sharing is caring.

I have discovered that it very difficult to put up a building where there is already an existing structure. You will have to demolish it before you put up a new one; where as it is very easy to build a new structure where there is no building. The majority of us would rather go and build where it is crowded because we think that is where it is safe, when you can go and build where it is not crowded. No disrespect but I find cities to be crowded places. People are all fighting for very few or dwindling resources. I see building being erected where they are not supposed to be.

The world is full of untapped resources. It is therefore, our duty to explore and utilise these untapped resources. We are not doing ourselves a service by staying in one place and constantly fighting for the ever dwindling resources when there are more to be discovered and explored out their. I believe that God created more than enough resources to go round humanity. Imagine if David Livingstone did not have the courage to explore and discover the existence of the Mighty Victoria Falls or if Christopher Columbus did not discover the Americas and many other explorers that risked their lives travelling around the world. We would have probably not known about the existence of the many discoveries they made.

Take the challenge and leave the comfort zone

This year I have set myself a target to conquer some of my fears like public speaking. Yes you heard me right. Public speaking is one area most of us are scared of, especially me. My comfort zone has always been siting in the background and let other people do the talking whilst I silently criticise. To overcome this fear I have started preparing my self both physically and mentally. I am gathering material that I think will help me. Am also already seeing my self as a very good public speaker. Not necessarily motivational speaking but to just speak in front of an audience and do it exceptionally well. I hope that come the end of the year I shall be able to stand in front  of any audience and speak on a given subject with confidence.

You could also give yourself a challenge to overcome some of your fears. It could be the fear of starting a new business, the fear of relocating and so forth. Yes you will be faced with many obstacles at the very beginning, but your success will be determined by the way to rise up when you fall. I always encourage myself by repeatedly saying “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians. I also take comfort by know that “if God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans. I have personalised the Romans quote by replacing “us” with “me”. I say “if God is for me, who can be against me?”. I am not a perfect person am far from being one and would probably never be perfect. I have my own struggles many of them for that matter and have never been better than most of you.

I still struggle with so many things in my life. Forgive me if at any point I portrayed my self as a perfect person, it was not and will never be my intention.

I have lived most of my life with so many struggles however, in the last 10 years or so, there has been a drastic change in my life. I thank God almighty for giving me a second chance at life. Those that know me can attest to this. Am not blowing my own trumpet but just so that you can be encouraged from my own experiences.

Grow your faith and trust God

What seems impossible one minute, through faith, becomes possible the next” – Norman Vincent Peale. Lets begin by defining faith. “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” – The Bible. I believe and trust in God almighty for all the things that I do and hope to achieve. I think it is important to grow our faith and believe that God will help us achieve our goals. There is a nice phrase that I learned from the power of positive thinking by Dr. Norman V. Peale and I encourage you to apply it on a daily basis “God is with me. God is helping me. God is guiding me”. When you start moving into deeper waters you will need a lot of encouragement.

Always remember that God is on your side and is actually guiding you. Yes you will stumble along the way, but if your trust is in God he will certainly show you the way when you call on him.

Most of the times we remain in the safe harbour because we have no faith and we fear to fail. The more you grow your faith the more courage you gain. I guess there is a direct relationship between faith and courage. The only way to grow your faith is by reading and meditating on the word of God. Everyone who has ever succeeded has faith. They believe that they will achieve that which they have set out to accomplish even when they cannot see positive results instantly. Everything that is good is worth the effort.

Conclusion

The first step is to fill your life with positive faith that will help you through anything. The second step is to start where you are” – Norman Vincent Peale. Being in our “comfort zone” will not help us grow. You cannot produce meaningful results in life if you are content with what you currently have. You must show and demonstrate the desire and the will to achieve. Until next time remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

Everything is hard before it’s easy

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

If I have correct goals and I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything falls into line. If I do the right thing, I am going to succeed” – Dan Dierdorf. Human beings by nature want to have easy things in life. Most of us are full of envy when we see our friends driving beautiful fancy cars and living a seemingly comfortable and enjoying life in general. How we long to arrive at the so-called “easy life” destination without hard work. Yet it does not come. The lazier we become further away from the good life drifts. Yes we can all achieve what we want and I believe, that is what God intended for us all. But achieving our hearts desires requires us to take bold and right steps; to make bold decisions that require a mindset change.

Personal development and self-growth requires a change in our mind and belief systems. If you are to achieve your goals, there is no doubt that your attitude and mindset has to be in the sink. Perhaps this could be a great start for you to set your year’s objectives and goals. The key thing is to start somewhere. Start now, plan to succeed at whatever you are intending to achieve. I believe that everything that is worthwhile is worth your effort.

If everything in life was easy to achieve or get, then life would have been very boring. Our bodies were designed to work, both physically and mentally. I have discovered that nature is neutral. God has blessed us with the same environment, we all have equal access to the environment. No one on this earth can claim to have more or less than 24hrs a day, I have never heard of anyone who has more or less air. We all experience the same conditions at a given time. We all tap into the same universal resources. The difference, however, is how efficient and effectively we use these abundant resources that God has given us. We are all products of the same universe. We were all created in the image of God.

The question that one may ask is how come life seems to be easy for some people? Well, I believe that there is nothing that comes as easily as it seems and let me just say that life is never easy. All good things come at a cost. You must be willing to pay the price before you begin to reap and enjoy the rewards. I know for sure that for you to live a happy and successful life you must be willing to pay the price and be disciplined enough to delay gratification. Most of us want to live in the now and not in the future. We do not want to delay gratification. Even the so-called easy life is not as easy as it seems. It may look easy from the outside but it is not what it seems. I remember during my earlier working days in life when we used to envy our friends who worked for bigger and “better” corporate organisations. We all would be saying “if only I worked for that organisation life would be easy”. Yet the people working for the same organisations would be looking elsewhere.

Condition your mind to start working

You will agree with me that everything that is good is worth working for. It feels very nice when you have worked for something and are enjoying the benefits. It gives me much pleasure when I have achieved a target. I have a sense of joy and my mind is always positive to even work harder. It is, therefore, very important to set goals that are achievable in order that you keep a positive mental attitude. Failure should, however, not be an obstacle it should be viewed as a challenge to be overcome. It should be a learning process. Every day of our lives we are constantly pushing ourselves to achieve targets. You may not realise it but every day of your life you are achieving a target this could either be positive or negative the choice is yours.

You need to prepare your mind for success. Preparing your mind for success is important as this will also allow you to grow with your success. This will require you to take deliberate steps to condition your mind. If need be you may have to change your friends or get out of some bad relationships. Yes I mean change your friends. Not all relationships are actually beneficial some can be very detrimental. You may also need to move to a new location. Over time I have personally had to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle. This has helped me a great deal. I am more focused on what I do. Believe me, some relationships can be a distraction to your progress, the sooner you identify them and make the necessary change the better. It may be difficult for you to make drastic changes right now but if you are serious about shaping your future, find a way to adjust. Do not allow friendship to hinder your progress.

Your mind plays a key role in determining your overall progress in life. What you feed your mind on a daily basis is very important. The Bible says “ for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of”. If you hang around people with a positive mental attitude you are most certainly going to have a positive attitude the opposite is also true. Everything that we do or want to do in life begins in our minds. Our minds are, therefore, the workshop or the engine room of everything. Do you realise that everything that is made by man was conceived in the mind? This is how important our minds are. Apart from hanging around with positive-minded people, you could also start reading books and listening to audiotapes that will have a positive impact on your mind. Make a deliberate habit to change your mind and ensure that you take action.

There is no easy route

Once you have started pursuing your goals learn to be patient with yourself. You will keep on falling and failing. Every new skill or habit takes time to execute with minimum effort. Keep learning from your mistakes and be open-minded to make the necessary changes. I have noticed that most of the young generation are in the habit of trying to cut corners especially in the area of financial freedom. Believe me, it is not worth it. I am yet to find an easy route to success that is not short-lived. Ever since I embarked on doing what I love most it has not been easy. Yes, I enjoy it but the journey has not been an easy one. I have enjoyed both dry moments and good ones. What keeps me going is the fact that I enjoy writing and hope that these articles are of help to someone. I am still very much a work in progress but impressed with my own progress so far.

From my studies and personal experience on the subject of self-growth and improvement, I have learned that cutting corners only yields short-lived happiness. If you want long-lasting happiness resolve to do the right things. You will have peace of mind for the rest of your life. The small things that I have achieved so far through hard work make me feel over the moon. They may be small but they actually count a lot to me. After all, success is the sum total of the things we accomplish on a daily basis. I am not in any competition or race with anybody and therefore, will move at my own pace. Like I always say if something is worth the salt then it is worth your sweat. Everything is always difficult for the first time.

Conclusion

Everything in life is hard before it’s easy. They say that it takes 21 Days to develop a new habit. You can take advantage of this theory and change your non-productive habits to those that will in the process help you grow as an individual. Having the knowledge that our minds are very critical to our personal development and self-improvement it is therefore very important that we learn to guard our minds and hearts. The Bible says “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” – Philippians. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” – Proverbs. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

This website has just hit a hundred articles. In essence this translates to more than 100,000 words at an average rate of 1,000 words per article. This is a personal achievement for me. Thank God for the grace and inspiration to write. I can only ask for more grace and inspiration to write even much much better articles. Thank you also for following me on my journey this far we are in it together.  I have never written this many articles in my life.  This is truly a milestone to be celebrated. I also pray and hope that these articles have been and continue to be of great help to you the readers. I believe that we can help change the world for the better. A journey of one thousand miles starts with one step in the right direction. I have personally endeavoured to take that step and I know that it is the right one.

My pledge is to have this site grow to be one of the most preferred destination for people seeking personal growth, personal development, spiritual growth and encouragement. There are others areas that I will be writing about in due course as outlined in the home page. I just thought of sharing this happy moment with my readers.

What’s coming in the next few weeks?

I have been doing some work in the background on how best to host podcasts. I am in the process of introducing a podcast section for some of the articles. I hope that this will also open up the possibility to record podcasts with different personalities. Am always looking for ways to improve both the quality of the articles and the general outlook of the website. I want to make it as user friendly as possible. I also want it to be a very simple website. You will notice that there are are few tweaks here and there, this is just to correct some errors and improve on the general outlook. If you feel that there is anything that needs my attention please feel free to contact me in the about section.

I have noticed that ever since the blog carnival website was pulled down there has not been any platform that hosts personal development carnivals. I intend to start hosting one in the coming weeks. The submission requests page will be uploaded soon. I will be asking for only a link back to successfully hosted sites. I hope this services will be greatly appreciated by the community. These are some of the major changes that will take place on this sites. Thank you again for your continued readership and support.

Bye and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

Is living consciously beneficial?

Motivational Quotes

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Why is it important to live consciously or have a conscious mind? Do you live consciously? “I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor” – Henry D Thoreau. Many of us live our lives on auto pilot. We just flow with the wind. We find our selves and lives drifting with the wind. One of the most important aspects of personal development is to develop a habit of living consciously. This helps create a sense of expectation and builds confidence in us. Confidence also helps build motivation. Over the years I have developed a mechanism to doing things consciously and this has a really benefited me from my daily life. I have noticed a surge in my productivity and a major shift in my efficiency levels.

I have noticed that by living consciously, there is very little room for mistakes and surprises as most the work and things are done with full alertness and knowledge of the consequences. Conscious living is one of my key themes for this web site and as such I will be talking about it very frequently in the coming articles. You will agree that most of the things we do are done almost unconsciously but it is very beneficial to take control of your daily living by creating a conscious mind. You should develop an attitude of doing or carrying out your daily activities consciously as this allows you to take control of yourself and your inner being.

Habits can be learned and unlearned. I can safely say that 99% of our habits are learned over time. I know that the only things that we are naturally born with as human beings is the fear of falling and the fear of noise. That is why you will notice that most babies get very uncomfortable when you take them in noisy places. The rest of the habits are learnt over a period of time. When I say all habits can be learned I mean just that, including bad ones. Now if all habits can be learned it is therefore, very possible that you can learn the habit of living consciously. If you put your mind to it and practice the habit of doing things consciously you will notice an improvement in your daily life and execution of your work.

Practice makes perfect
To help with living consciously you must tell yourself in the morning that I shall endeavour to do things consciously to day and keep reminding yourself. Some how the brain keeps checking and alerting you when it is conditioned to carry out tasks in a certain way. Am always reminded by my sub conscious every time am performing a task. Being a conscious person has really helped me in the execution of my daily tasks. I have also developed the habit of writing down my daily tasks as a way of remembering what should be done at a particular time. I take a review of my to do list every night. This I do mentally and believe me my success rate has dramatically improved overtime. Practice living consciously for the next 21 days and it will become a habit for you. If you do something for 21 days continuously it becomes a habit. They say practice makes perfect.

Conscious living is one of the best ways to improve your personal growth and increase your productivity. Like I said before you will reduce your proneness to surprises and errors. You will do tasks with a peace of mind knowing that, what you have delivered is actually what you intended to deliver. It may not be the correct delivery as required but, then it is what you as an individual intended to deliver. When you have developed  the habit of living consciously you will also enhance the spirit of expectation. It is good practice to always double check your work as this will ensure quality production. Now don’t get me wrong there are times when my work has been terribly below par. The only comforting thing with me, is that I have also development a habit of accepting criticism no matter how hard it is.

Accept criticism
I believe that there is a lot of positiveness in accepting criticism. A good leader is one that accepts both praises and criticism. If you are in a leadership position, which we all are, you should learn to tolerate and accept criticism. A leader has a responsibility to the people he is leading. If you are a husband then you are a leader for wife, children and your entire house hold. In fact we are all leaders of our self and all work for me company limited. You are solely responsible for your life and the direction you take. Most of us are still waiting for someone to lead our lives. Now if you are a Christian like me you will say, but God is my shepherd yes he is but he is not responsible for the decision you make. Most of the times he leads as to certain places but we are always making the wrong decisions and end up in wrong places.

If you are directly responsible for leading a group of people the more reason why you should have a big heart for accepting criticism. After all we do not have the monopoly of knowledge. Some of it will be as blunt and as direct and sometimes may seem like an insult but that is what leadership is all about. It is about taking in all the criticism and providing solutions and hope to the team. You may not have the answers right away but people should have the confidence that you will guide them through the storm. Leaders must learn to create a sense of hope and trust in their followers.

Those in leadership must learn to take responsibility for both positive and negative out comes. I believe that criticism helps us grow as individuals. It is very important that we analyse it and make a deliberate effort to improve. As human beings I have noticed that we do not take criticism very well and mostly we just want to take only the positive aspects of the praises. If we have to grow as individuals we must take responsibility for all our actions both negative and positive. Leaders must realise that they have more on their shoulders than their followers. With more, there is more that is expected of you.  The more or the larger the organisation being lead the more demands placed on the leadership. “The speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Conclusion
If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living” – Gail Heehy. Living consciously is more beneficial to individuals as it gives us control of our lives and helps with productivity. I hope this article has helped you bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

The darkest hour is just before dawn

Motivational Quotes

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Believe in a hope that a new hope is dawning, believe that your dreams will come true, believe in the promise of brighter tomorrows, begin by believing in you”. The darkest hour of the night is just before dawn. Have you ever noticed that when you are about to break through there is usually a dark period that your experience. Perhaps the roughest patch is actually just before you hit gold. This is also the period at which many of us, give up our on dreams. I believe that there is no dawn before darkness. Mourning may come in the night but joy comes in the morning. If you are going through a very difficult patch in your life this I believe is a sign that good things are yet to come. This though does not mean that you working hard but instead it is time you doubled your effort.

I have come to realise that every time I start working on a new project there is a period when things seem not to be making sense or going my way. There is always a time when I feel that everything I try is not just working out. When I just started developing this website I gave up for for sometime because things seemed not to be working out for me. This is when I did not even know how to promote my blog site and was receiving very little traffic. When you are in your darkest period and continuously work hard and smart, the dawn will surely come. Do not give-up in this period of darkness is when you should work even harder to learn from your mistakes and ensure that when it is dawn you reap the rewards and continue to enjoy them for a long time.

Every good thing is worth the effort

I believe that every good thing is worth your best effort and time investment. If you are to build a something of value you will definitely have to invest a lot of your time and energy. I have set myself targets for this site and this is always on my mind to ensure that my readers get what I feel is the best of me. I am always looking to write content on a regular basis as this is the only way to add value to this site. Currently there are close to a hundred articles all written by me and of fairly good value. I must say that the traffic is currently improving and will surely reach the intended targets within a short period of time.

I believe that in few months time this site will be of great value to my readers and contribute to personal development and self growth topics. One of targets I have set for the next 12 months is to read a minimum of 12 personal development and growth books, this is in addition to my regular reading. The journey of success is not an easy one but is very enjoyable. I can say am still in the darkest of hours it is not yet dawn for me and my intended life’s purpose. The good thing is I have started off, am no longer in the comfort zone.

Just get started and stay on it

If you have been thinking or have a written down life’s purpose just get started with it. Sometimes we over plan to the extent that our plans begin to scare us and eventually are over taken by events. There are some plans that I have shelved because they have been overtaken by events. Yes its good to plan but please do not over plan. You may adjust your plans as you go along and have a much clearer picture of what you want to achieve. Yes it very important to have a plan but also remember that time waits for no body. Time, patience and perseverance will accomplish all things. You should learn to strike a balance between your planning phase and your implementation process. “In the marathon of life, success calls for dedication to the goal, perseverance, compassion for my fellow man, and faith in God” – John A. Kelley.

In the field of personal development and growth it is very important that you get started with your plans and adjust them as you go along. You will agree with me that the some is equally true with business plans. Normally the reality tends to be very different from the plan. Only when you get started will you realise that some of the thing you had planned for, might need to be adjusted to reality. I personally see nothing wrong with adjusting your plans to conform with what is obtaining on the ground.

We are mostly discouraged when our plans are not matching with reality. This is when you realise that you have reached at the darkest hour. At this point in your life you need to steady your ship weather the storm. At the end of the storm is calmness and it will surely be dawn. I believe that every project does go through storms and therefore, it is very important that you the captain of the ship remains very focused to navigate through it. If you give up you might just be a few mitres away from your break through.

Learn from your mistakes and make adjustments

It is very important to learn from our mistakes and make the necessary adjustments. In order for you to shorten your darkest hour. Most of the times  our darkest hours are as a result of our mistakes. Sometimes the dawn is delayed for reasons not known to us. but this should not make us despair for as long as we are sure that we are doing the right things. Mistakes will always be there and are made by everyone including the most disciplined and successful people. The difference however, is how we recover from our mishaps.  I always keep in mind that personal growth is not a competition neither is it a race with anyone. My personal development path is very different from yours.

Life will always throw challenges at us and hence we are prone to make mistakes as we navigate through it. Learn to analyse your failures and refuse to accept them. Your mistakes are just one way of telling you to do things differently. With perseverance and persistence your dawn will surely be upon you for a long time to come. So far my personal growth journey has been a fairly enjoyable one. I keep praying to God that he continues to guide me on this path I have set myself on. “Through perseverance, many people win success out of what seemed destined to be certain failure” -Benjamin Disraeli

Conclusion

I don’t think their is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature” – John D. Rockefeller. Remember that personal development is not a destination but a journey. The darkest hours of your journey are just before dawn. Never give up on your dream and keep on making adjustments until you succeed. Remember that every good thing is worth you time and effort. Good bye for now and “standout tall and be counted” you where created to be a success.

Self-belief is key to personal success

Motivational Quotes

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

“Believe in yourself” ~ Unknown. “First say to yourself what you want to be; then do what you have to do” ~ Epictetus. Have faith in yourself. Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. But with sound confidence you can succeed. Self-belief is a very important and key ingredient in personal development and success. Most of us fail to because of the disbelief we have in our selves. The biggest difference between failure and success is self-belief and confidence. In this article I try to bring out the important aspects of self-belief and what it can achieve for you.

Positive affirmations
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” ~ the Bible. This is one of my favourite quotes. For me this is the magic sentence. Every time I feel down and out; when everything else has failed and I need to get on. I always remember that “I can do all things through Christ…”. Believe me it works and I would recommend it to you.

I know that we all fall down most of the times in our lives but the most important thing is how you get up. One best way to help you improve your self-belief is to use positive affirmations. Keep telling yourself, you can do it, you can do it, you can do it. This will build some form of self-belief and the results can be unprecedented. To get more benefits from positive affirmation you need to change your mind set from being negative to positive. Look at the better side of everything. Encourage yourself to believe more in yourself. Positive affirmation requires that you change your way of thinking from “I can’t, to I can”, remember the magic sentence? Many of the times we let great opportunities pass by because of our negative and mediocre thinking.

There is power in positive thinking and affirmations. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”.We shall know them by their fruits” ~ the Bible. This goes to show how important our thoughts can influence our well being. Change your thoughts with positive affirmations.  “Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions. Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits. Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values. Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny” ~ Mahatma Gandhi.

Know yourself
The starting point for your journey of self-development is you the person you see in the mirror. Know yourself, your likes and dislikes, preferences and skills; it is the very basic need for your self-development. Here I have listed a few tips that can help you know yourself better:-

  • Journalise and diarise your daily activities. This will help you analyse the events and how you reacted to them.
  • Look in the mirror and notice what you see. Yes seems funny but most of us have never noticed what is in the mirror. That’s you a “millionaire” in the waiting.
  • Get feedback on your work and behaviour from the people around you especially your colleagues at work. In order that you have a balanced view, ask your critics as well. I have belief that in order to make a good leader you need both sets of people that is those you can easily influence and those that can stand up to your face and tell you no when you go wrong. Often times this is lucking in our leaders.
  • Study your relationships and how they make you feel. You may realise that no man is an island. We all have some sort of relationship be it at work or home. I have learnt that relationships play a very significant role in a person’s life.

Have positive expectations
Numerous experiments have confirmed that when you expect the best often times you get it and when you expect the negative the same will come to pass. So at the start of any enterprise or at the start of a day or start of the year or season, look forward with the expectation of the very best. Here is a quote from kalidasa (Indian dramatist).

Look to this day
For it is life, the very life of life;
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendour of beauty
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today well lived makes every yesterday
A dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope
Look well therefore to this day!
Such is the salutation to the dawn.

This is a life changing poem. In a nutshell we must look forward to today and enjoy it in a positive and constructive way, because tomorrow we will reflect on it and have happy memories.

Like the man who had too many lemons and turned them into lemonade, or the man who bought a snake infested land and learned how to make snakeskin into shoe leather, every seemingly negative situation can be turned around into something positive. You must learn to turn negative situations into positive ones.

Mix with positive people
One of the biggest drains on our enthusiasm is mixing with negatively minded people. I am sure we all have come across or have such people in our lives. Try this out and see what the results will be for you. Identify someone who has a positive attitude towards life and one who has a negative attitude, spend some time with both of them at separate intervals and note what you will be feeling after spending sometime with either of them.

According to my results I feel more at peace and relaxed with the positive person than the negative one. Positivity is actually infectious. The more time you spend positively the more confident and happy you feel.

You have two choices though, if you want to survive being positive; avoid them, this though I would not encourage or better still train them and they will appreciate you when then get over it and you will have made the world happier by one person.

Conclusion
Perhaps the greatest gift in human history is the discovery of the power of your mind to create almost every aspect of your life. You see, everything you can visibly see was conceived in the mind of someone as a thought or an idea before being translated into being. Your thoughts are creative; your thoughts form and shape everything around you. Think about your goals and have belief in yourself above all “standout tall and be counted”.

Personal Development Success

Your confidence is key to success

“It’s not the mountain we conquer but our selves”~ Edmund Hillary. “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without confidence” ~ Hellen Keller. Success cannot be achieved without confidence. I have learned that most successful people are the ones with confidence. You cannot set out to do something and succeed without the backing of confidence. If you luck confidence there is a very high likelihood that whatever, endeavour you have embarked on will not be a success this is surely a guarantee. In this article I will show you how to develop the confidence you need to succeed. Read 5 ways to improve your self-confidence.

It’s absolutely vital that you develop the confidence and self-belief that you will achieve your goals. Self-belief is very crucial to succeed. I am not talking about being arrogant and ignoring feedback from other people and thinking you are infallible or invisible. Am talking about having a balanced view of yourself that does not indulge in false modesty and self-pity, and an inner view that is not strong enough to be crushed and defeated when someone challenges you.

The thing is; to succeed you must develop the mind-set and confidence to achieve your goals. If you’re really are serious about succeeding you cannot afford to wallow in negative thoughts of “I am not good enough”. Here are a few tips to help you develop your confidence.

Self-talk
Self-talk is perhaps the most important step towards developing self-confidence. What to tell your self has more bearing than what other people tell you. Remember you are what you think. The bible says “as man thinketh so is he in his heart”.  Develop the attitude of talking positively to yourself. It helps to keep telling yourself that you can do it, you can do it. Usually when am working on a task I keep reminding myself of the benefits that accruals when a task is achieved.

I usually remind myself early in the morning that I can achieve all the tasks that I have laid down. Yes I will come across obstacles but my mind is prepared for the tasks ahead. You should try having a to do list every morning and see how that helps you towards achieving your intended goals. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” ~ the bible. This is my prayer every morning. Try personalising this saying and say how your confidence levels will be improved.

Your behaviour matters
What you think about and what you say to yourself has a profound bearing on your behaviour and on what happens to you. Your thoughts, attitudes and behaviours towards your ability to achieve your goals, have an impact on your expectation of the situation. In turn your expectation will impact on the way you behave in a given situation. People will just respond to your behaviours. “The most powerful forces of Nature are the invisible forces, so we find that the most powerful forces of man are his invisible forces, his spiritual force, and the only way in which the spiritual force can manifest is through the process of thinking” ~ the Master Key.

Am sure we’ve all known someone if not ourselves, who has been worrying about something they have to do and have constantly spoken how badly it’s going to go and when it does go badly they jump and exclaim “I knew” that would happen. You see all along they did not realise that they created their own self-fulfilling prophesy. There is power in thoughts and words. Always be mindful of what to say.

Focus on the things you do well
Take stock of your skills set and attributes that you already possess. In other words know your weaknesses and strengths and focus on improving your strengths. The idea is when you set out to do a task and accomplish it very well there is a sense of wellbeing and satisfaction. This is not to say that you should neglect to improve on your weakness. But focusing on doing the things you do better can highly improve your motivation and confidence levels.

I have listed down the some personal questions to help you identify your skill set and attributes if you are not sure of them. Write down the answers and keep on reviewing them. Make sure you answer the questions honestly.

  • What am I good at?
  • What have I received compliments and positive feedback for in the past?
  • What do people value me for? (Compare this with what you value yourself for).
  • What challenges have I overcome in the past?
  • What skills helped me to overcome the challenges?
  • What have I achieved in the past that I perhaps thought I couldn’t?

“We see things not as they are but as we are” ~ H. M. Tomlinson. As human beings I have noticed that we judge other people by our own standards. Believe me if you have set yourself a high standard that is what you expect to get from other people and nothing less.

Be inspired by other people
One of the things that has always inspired and given me confidence to succeed is by looking at and reading about other people who have made it. Find yourself some role models whom you admire and whose story of success inspires you. A role model does not necessarily have to be alive or known personally. It could be someone you have read about or someone who does not even know you. Most successful people have written books about their lives. Find some literature about them and read it.

A good role model will show you the following attributes

  • Their attitude and approach
  • Where and how they started
  • How they made the most of their abilities
  • How they handle their success
  • How they overcome challenges

Always remind yourself these too were or are human beings just like you and me. If they can make it why shouldn’t you make it?

Conclusion
I hope and trust that you have learned one or two things from this article. Let me end by emphasising that you cannot succeed without having self-belief and the confidence to carry you on. I have not come across a successful person without self-belief and no confidence. I challenge you set out intended purpose in life and start pursuing it with confidence and always remember to “standout tall and be counted”.
