“Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution will ever experience life’s deepest joy; true fulfillment” – Anthony Robbins. We live to serve people. Humanity was created for service. What ever kind of job you do is related to serving people. It may be directly or indirectly interacting with people, but I believe that what ever we do in life is ultimately serving people. If what you do, does not benefit people, it simply means you are robbing the world. Everyday of our lives there is a time when we have to serve someone. No matter what you are or do there comes a time when you have to serve someone. Service that is beneficial to the person being served. People do not realise that there is joy and a lot of satisfaction in being of service.
People remember us by the way we treat them; the way we talk to them. The small things we do and say really matter and count. If you are a parent or a guardian you will agree with me that you take pride and joy when you are being of service to your children or spouse. I always try as much as possible to be of help and make myself available when ever time allows. With the busy schedule I have on my plate I have over the past created some days during the week where I give my family undivided attention. My two children know that they can ask me to play with them and they do not expect any objections. Sometimes my youngest son David will remind me and and say that today is our time with you.
I have noticed that ever since I deliberately created more time for them there is a sense of togetherness. I am beginning to grow more patient with them on so many things. This has helped improve my understanding and enhanced my relationship with my family. I guess this is very important especially that my eldest son Lutangu is getting into his teens. In other words am discovering the other side of me; the patient side of me; the gentle side of me. Because generally I am not a very patient person. Now they look forward to those days. When we are playing games am the one who is usually serving them; am the one who does the dirty work and they get to enjoy seeing me all dirty.
I also serve at church in the traffic department. We are the first people you meet and the last people you see when you come to church on Sundays. It is a tough job especially, on hot and rainy days but the joy and satisfaction you get when serving God’s people is just immeasurable. People will always appreciate the service you render to them no matter what. Even if they don’t thank you immediately they will at some point thank you. All you have to do is to just continue doing what is right. It is such a joy when you find people thanking you for your service. That is why it is always important to say thank you when you are being served, it simply encourages the one providing the service to even do more.
There is Growth from Service
Apart from just the joy you get from serving, there is also personal growth. We are all called to serve. The world needs more people to serve. If you are not deliberately serving people, I encourage you to take time to find something that you can do to serve others. It could be at your work place. Be the one that helps out a colleague; be the one who is more dependable in a certain area. Not just helping your boss but also help your peers. The more you practice to help the more you grow and the more you get satisfaction and derive happiness. The bible says “it is more blessed to give than to receive“. The rewards of serving are immense.
I developed this website not only to share my personal experience but to be of service to people. The articles I write are mainly personal experiences through which I hope that someone is being encouraged and challenged. Over the years I have also enjoyed personal growth because of my own articles. I do a lot of reading and research. As a result I am learning everyday of my life. I can only thank God for the ideas and opportunity he has given me to develop this website. I believe that am still very much a work in progress. There are many many areas of my life that need to be worked on and slowly but surely they are being turned around.
“Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods” – Plato. Through service of people lives can be changed and transformed. As we serve and grow we should, endeavour to reach out to the world at large. I believe that serving people is also one way to unlocking our full potential. One can realise their potential by being of service to people. Again I would like to encourage you to find something that you can do that can be of service to the community around you. Start small and slowly reach out to a larger audience. Take joy in serving people. Remember to “standout tall and be counted”.
