Courage is not the absence of fear. Fear is an emotion that is experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger. The emotion of fear usually triggers negative thoughts and feelings. We all have experienced fear before and continue to do so every now and again. For some it could be the fear of heights; the fear to tell our story because we are scared of being embarrassed.

The fear of failure to venture into something new. Does this sound like you? Fear comes in many ways. For some the shear thought of living their comfort zone sends chills in their spine. We fail because we lack enough courage to overcome our fears.

Although fear can help us make necessary preparations to avoid certain calamities, it can also be quite devastating on our lives. It can have long term negative effects. It can lead to physical and psychological challenges. Fear has stopped most of us from fully, enjoying our God given lives. “To live a creative life we must lose our fear of being wrong” – Joseph Chilton Pearce.

Many studies that have been conducted reveal that “Fear causes worry. Worry makes you tense and nervous and affects the nerves of your stomach and actually changes the gastric juices of your stomach from normal to abnormal and often leads to stomach ulcers.”

This means that fear can eat you alive without you knowing. Dr. Joseph F. Montague, author of the book Nervous Stomach Trouble, says “You do not get stomach ulcers from what you eat. However, you get ulcers from what is eating you.” This is how much you can be destroyed by fear.

Let Go of Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure” –  Marianne Williamson. If you want to accomplish much in life, you need to let go of your fears. Especially the fear of failure.

Those who have accomplished beyond average are those who have learned to overcome their fears. It does not necessarily mean they are not afraid, they have just learned to have more courage and less fear. The more courage you develop the more fearless you become.

One of the ways to let go of fear is staying positive on your goals; staying true to goals. Focusing on the benefits and achievements that will accrue with your goals.

When you start to feel anxious remember that it is normal. It only becomes abnormal when you let anxiety stop you from your goals. This is what has killed most of us. We have allowed anxiety to take centre stage in our lives.

Focusing on your goals makes you motivated to achieving them. Yes, you may not achieve your goals the first time and neither will you the second time. But every time you take a step you move towards achieving your them. With every step and effort that you make you become less and less fearful.

I know that at times it can be very difficult to stay positive, but that is the essence of personal development and self improvement; that is life. It is to always find ways and means to overcoming your limitations and challenges.

You could try the following tips to help you stay motivated:-

  • Showing gratitude to others – I believe that showing gratitude is a sign of appreciation. It is a sign of being thankful. I believe that it is just humane to say thank you when you have been served. It is appreciating the effort that someone has put in to serving you.
  • Keep learning every day – This will take you away from your daily routine which sometimes could become boring. Besides learning is the corner stone of life. It is the holy grail of self improvement. The more you learn the more you become. If you want to achieve more you must become more. Be open minded to learning. Knowledge is one of the very few things that you will be buried with. Knowledge is personal to holder.
  • Lend a helping hand – Humanity was created to core exist. We have just lost it along the way, because of our selfish motives and petty jealousy. I know for sure that many of us derive satisfaction when we lend a helping hand. There is goodness in everyone of us.
  • Live for yourself – You are not in competition with anyone. You are your own competition. Move at your own pace and most of all learn to enjoy your life. Find something that you love to do and get on with it. Something that make you happy.
  • List your positive things in life – We all have done somethings that we are proud of. No matter how insignificant they are. They might seem small but when listed they add up.  It is important to list them and make reference to them every now and again. You will be amazed at the list you could come up with. This will always remind you of them and how it feels when you accomplish something you are proud of. You will more often than not try to replicate that feeling.

Conclusion

Only when we are not afraid do we begin to live” – Dorothy Thompson. I would like to conclude by encouraging you not to let fear stand in your way. You can achieve whatever you set your mind on only if you can be less fearful and be more courageous. “Feel the fear and do it any way”. Remember to be courageous and fearless. Do Not Underestimate the Power of Your Actions

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

There is power in your actions just as there is power in your tongue. The two are synonymous. You should always be mindful of what you say or do. Most people underestimate the power that God has deposited in each and everyone of us. Within you there is more than sufficient energy and will power to achieve anything that you set your mind to. “Once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year – and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!” – Tony Robbins.

It is therefore, important that you realise it and stop underrating yourself. One of the reasons why we do not progress and achieve our goals is because we underestimate ourselves. People think they cannot achieve certain things because they do not have such and such. If you are thinking like that, it is a sign of inferiority complex. Please get rid of it. God created us equal and it does not matter whether you are black or white; rich or poor. Remove the colour of your skin and we all have the same blood running through our veins. I have never seen anyone with white or black blood. We all have red blood in our veins.

We all breath the same air. The sun shines on all humanity regardless of your locality and colour of your skin. Darkness falls on both the rich and the poor. Everyone enjoys the same seasons. There are 24hrs in day for all. Someday each and everyone of us will die. Why then do you underestimate the power of your actions? Every great man or woman knows that every action they take leads to something. That is why it is important that you learn to take decisive actions with your life.

Yes, I know that sometimes our actions may seem not to be right with every one at the time. But nature requires us to do the right things. Some of the things I learnt from my late Dad seemed very harsh then. But fast forward I realise that they are now very useful for my survival. I learnt at an early age in life to be independent. My Dad taught me to be more independent. Well, back then it looked like punishment.

Off course as a young man I would have loved to be a little bit more spoiled. Equipped with more knowledge now, I think It would have been a challenge for me to be a more responsible person if I was spoiled.

Your Every Action Builds your Character

Society will always judge you by your actions, simply because this is what they see. They are not preview to your thoughts and feelings. Most of the times they will miss understand your actions. But always remember that for every action you make there is a reaction. Some will be positive and others will be negative reactions. Stay your course and do what you think is right. I always tell my Children that when you do the right things no one is going to bother you. Not even yourself. You will be at peace with everyone.

No matter how small your deeds may be, do not underestimate the power they carry. It may just be saying thank you to a stranger for helping you. That one small deed can go a long way to making someone happy and feel appreciated. I remember one time at church as I was on duty, I offered one of my team members a cup of coffee. For me it was just extending a good gesture to a team mate. I was very touched to find out a few weeks later that it was the only meal he had for that particular day.

You are a sum total of the small things that you do. Your character is built and formed by the little things you do on a daily basis. So matter how small or insignificant you think your actions are, do not underestimate them. You never know who is watching.

Life is a Work in Progress

My life is a continuous work in progress. I don’t think there will ever be a time when things will just happen on auto pilot. I have to constantly keep pushing myself and find ways of improving. Everyday of my life, it dawns on me that am aging and I have to learn how to do certain things as am aging. When I look at people who are really advanced in age and cannot do the very things they used to do when they were much younger. I realise that actually life is a work in progress. At every stage you have to learn, just when you think you have mastered one thing another challenge comes along.

That is why you must quickly learn to become a student of yourself. You may not have the same energy to achieve your goals in the next few years. They say make hay when its summer because you cannot make it when winter comes. In order to move in tandem with this world you must learn to evolve. Develop ideas on how you can change your way of life and remain relevant to the core. The more relevant you are the more you can contribute positively to humanity.

For as long as am able to, it is my intention to continue contributing in my own small way to the cause of personal development and self growth. I will try and write on topics that are relevant and will continue learning and finding more ways of delivering my messages. I will simply not give up. Not just yet.

Confidence Comes From Experience

You can overcome your fears and flaws by gaining experience. Experience is gained through practice. Take the example of driving a car. The first time you do it you are gripped with fear and are nervous. You are lacking in confidence and make a lot of mistakes on the road. The more you practice the more confident you get. After a number of times driving, you are so much confident that you do not even think about it. Even when you make mistakes you are not bothered that much.

Before you gain confidence you will fall and sometimes bruise your self. But if you persist you will soon get the hang of it and your confidence will soon be more than your fear. To apply the principle of improving your confidence the following could be of great use. Identify the areas of your life that are outside your comfort zone. Take a step by ensuring that you venture into your un comfortable zone. The first time will feel very awkward.

It will not be easy the first time and believe me it will not be perfect either. Go on and continue doing it and you will eventually get the hang of it. Remember that it is not practice that makes perfect but, imperfect practice that results in perfectness.

Conclusion

Never underestimate the potential and power of the human spirit”. Your actions are responsible for shaping your character. If you want to build a good reputation you need to guard your heart jealously as this is the source of your actions. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”.  It is also says “you shall know them by their fruits”. We do not just act from without. We react with what we have. Remember to “never underestimate the power of your actions”.

How Not to Be Successful

You may be thinking why would you want to know about how not to be successful? Don’t we all want to know about how to be successful after all, that is one of the main themes for this website? Before we delve into the article, lets define the word successful, according to the Oxford Learner’s Dictionary it means “achieving your aims or what was intended”.

From the above definition you can already see why learning about how not to be successful can help you achieve your goals. Sometimes in life we are so focused on knowing the positives and forget about learning how to avoid the negatives. We are so much consumed about how to do this and that, we never take time to learn how not to be positive. If you want to be positive you must know how not to be positive in order to avoid being negative.

Many of us are busy researching on success but are failing to understand why we are not achieving it. I thought to bring to light some of the things that have contributed to either slowing down progress or not progressing at all. Maybe if you take a break and learn the opposite of not being prosperous you will avoid the pitfalls and stay on the right track.

The above definition is more or less straight forward and is on point. It is not ambiguous. For me the definition brings out a few things that I am passionate and have been constantly writing about on this site. Before you embark on the road to pursue success there are a few requisites that need to be attended to. If you are not attending to these basics, you will find it very difficult to thrive. Being successful, is all about achieving. When you achieve you are successful. “Success seems to be connected with action. Successful men keep moving; they make mistakes, but they do not quit” – Conrad Hilton.

Not Knowing Your Life’s Intended Purpose

Your life’s intended purpose is key to being victorious. Remember the definition says “achieving what was intended”. If you do not know what you were created for; what you where intended for; you will find it hard to be successful. I believe that the first thing one needs to do is finding out or establishing his life’s’ intended purpose. This will generally lead to making decisions and taking steps that help to achieve that purpose.

In other words you need to have set goals and targets, and work towards attaining them. Perhaps one of the most sure way of not being successful is not having goals or not knowing your purpose in life. If you do not have a goal you simply cannot attain it. Yes, you may have all the possessions but is that your goal? Only you can measure the true level of your success. “To be successful you must decide exactly what you want to accomplish, and then resolve to pay the price to get it” – Bunker Hunt.

The other way of not be successful is to not being true and sincere to the situation. Most of us are more concerned with who is right and not what is right. We have so much ego that we let it cloud our judgement. I have been in such situations before, where am questioning who gave the solution and believe me most of the times I have ended up missing the opportunity. This is very common especially, if you are so much involved and interested in politics. A famous politician once said politics makes you sit on your intelligence.

Most of the people who are ardent followers of political parties usually do not make honest and objective opinions about the candidates they support. They turn a blind eye to the wrongs being committed by the party they support and are quick to point out the wrongs being committed by their competitors. That is why I have detached myself from politics. I do try as much as possible to make an honest and balanced judgement. However, on this website I promise to not take sides with any politician and will always not talk politics. I just think politics are more divisive.

Not Having the Right Mental Attitude

Achievement is in your mind and your attitude. If you do not see yourself successful, you are not ready for it. They say you are what you think about most of the times. If you critically look back at your thoughts in the last few years and compare them with your current life. Nine out of ten you are living your thoughts.

Not having the right mental attitude is a sure way of not achieving your goals. The two major mental obstacles for success are fear and doubt. Fear is one of the greatest negative emotions. First of all it is the fear of failure; the fear of embarrassment; the fear of loss and poverty. I have also learned that fear mostly exposes our inadequacies. We fear, to do something maybe because we do not have enough knowledge on a certain topic.

The second emotion of doubt is equally as detrimental as fear. We doubt our abilities mostly because we compare ourselves to other individuals, who are more competent and smarter than us. We feel inadequate to the challenges at hand.

However, the good thing is that both fear and doubt are learned emotions. We acquire them as we grow. This is true because I have never seen a negative baby. You will agree with me that children are fearless, that is why they need adult supervision all the time. What ever has been learned can be unlearned.

The emotions of fear and doubt can be replaced by courage and confidence. The higher your levels of courage and confidence the lower your feelings of fear and doubt. The more knowledgeable you are about a subject matter the more courageous and confident you are to participate. I can attest to this because the more I write and post articles the more courageous and confident I become.

I am hoping that in months to come there will be a total transformation in my writing skills.

Conclusion

There are many things that can make you not to achieve your goals. I just thought of writing this article to make you look at the aside of life. It is not my intention not to see you succeed but to help you change, by bringing to light some of the things that maybe a road block in your life. I believe that knowing what works and what doesn’t work in your life is more important to helping you make those decisions that will push you closer to the finishing line. “If you consistently and persistently do the things that other successful people do, nothing in the world can stop you from being a big success also” – Brian Tracy. Stay focused and standout tall and be successful.
