Do Not Underestimate the Power of Your Actions

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

There is power in your actions just as there is power in your tongue. The two are synonymous. You should always be mindful of what you say or do. Most people underestimate the power that God has deposited in each and everyone of us. Within you there is more than sufficient energy and will power to achieve anything that you set your mind to. “Once you have mastered time, you will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year – and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!” – Tony Robbins.

It is therefore, important that you realise it and stop underrating yourself. One of the reasons why we do not progress and achieve our goals is because we underestimate ourselves. People think they cannot achieve certain things because they do not have such and such. If you are thinking like that, it is a sign of inferiority complex. Please get rid of it. God created us equal and it does not matter whether you are black or white; rich or poor. Remove the colour of your skin and we all have the same blood running through our veins. I have never seen anyone with white or black blood. We all have red blood in our veins.

We all breath the same air. The sun shines on all humanity regardless of your locality and colour of your skin. Darkness falls on both the rich and the poor. Everyone enjoys the same seasons. There are 24hrs in day for all. Someday each and everyone of us will die. Why then do you underestimate the power of your actions? Every great man or woman knows that every action they take leads to something. That is why it is important that you learn to take decisive actions with your life.

Yes, I know that sometimes our actions may seem not to be right with every one at the time. But nature requires us to do the right things. Some of the things I learnt from my late Dad seemed very harsh then. But fast forward I realise that they are now very useful for my survival. I learnt at an early age in life to be independent. My Dad taught me to be more independent. Well, back then it looked like punishment.

Off course as a young man I would have loved to be a little bit more spoiled. Equipped with more knowledge now, I think It would have been a challenge for me to be a more responsible person if I was spoiled.

Your Every Action Builds your Character

Society will always judge you by your actions, simply because this is what they see. They are not preview to your thoughts and feelings. Most of the times they will miss understand your actions. But always remember that for every action you make there is a reaction. Some will be positive and others will be negative reactions. Stay your course and do what you think is right. I always tell my Children that when you do the right things no one is going to bother you. Not even yourself. You will be at peace with everyone.

No matter how small your deeds may be, do not underestimate the power they carry. It may just be saying thank you to a stranger for helping you. That one small deed can go a long way to making someone happy and feel appreciated. I remember one time at church as I was on duty, I offered one of my team members a cup of coffee. For me it was just extending a good gesture to a team mate. I was very touched to find out a few weeks later that it was the only meal he had for that particular day.

You are a sum total of the small things that you do. Your character is built and formed by the little things you do on a daily basis. So matter how small or insignificant you think your actions are, do not underestimate them. You never know who is watching.

Life is a Work in Progress

My life is a continuous work in progress. I don’t think there will ever be a time when things will just happen on auto pilot. I have to constantly keep pushing myself and find ways of improving. Everyday of my life, it dawns on me that am aging and I have to learn how to do certain things as am aging. When I look at people who are really advanced in age and cannot do the very things they used to do when they were much younger. I realise that actually life is a work in progress. At every stage you have to learn, just when you think you have mastered one thing another challenge comes along.

That is why you must quickly learn to become a student of yourself. You may not have the same energy to achieve your goals in the next few years. They say make hay when its summer because you cannot make it when winter comes. In order to move in tandem with this world you must learn to evolve. Develop ideas on how you can change your way of life and remain relevant to the core. The more relevant you are the more you can contribute positively to humanity.

For as long as am able to, it is my intention to continue contributing in my own small way to the cause of personal development and self growth. I will try and write on topics that are relevant and will continue learning and finding more ways of delivering my messages. I will simply not give up. Not just yet.

Confidence Comes From Experience

You can overcome your fears and flaws by gaining experience. Experience is gained through practice. Take the example of driving a car. The first time you do it you are gripped with fear and are nervous. You are lacking in confidence and make a lot of mistakes on the road. The more you practice the more confident you get. After a number of times driving, you are so much confident that you do not even think about it. Even when you make mistakes you are not bothered that much.

Before you gain confidence you will fall and sometimes bruise your self. But if you persist you will soon get the hang of it and your confidence will soon be more than your fear. To apply the principle of improving your confidence the following could be of great use. Identify the areas of your life that are outside your comfort zone. Take a step by ensuring that you venture into your un comfortable zone. The first time will feel very awkward.

It will not be easy the first time and believe me it will not be perfect either. Go on and continue doing it and you will eventually get the hang of it. Remember that it is not practice that makes perfect but, imperfect practice that results in perfectness.

Conclusion

Never underestimate the potential and power of the human spirit”. Your actions are responsible for shaping your character. If you want to build a good reputation you need to guard your heart jealously as this is the source of your actions. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”.  It is also says “you shall know them by their fruits”. We do not just act from without. We react with what we have. Remember to “never underestimate the power of your actions”.

At the Heart of Every Obstacle Lies an Opportunity

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

There is no short cut. Victory lies in overcoming obstacles everyday“. When life takes a turn and brings about an unexpected obstacles, we react with our emotions. One may face fear, resentment, anger and doubt. It is absolutely humane to react in this manner. Sometimes the obstacles may seem impossible to overcome. They may seem bigger than we can handle. The bigger the problem the more the rewards. I read a story that changed my perspective to the way I view challenges. This story illustrates the opportunities that lies at the heart of every obstacle.

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the King’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying on the road where the boulder had been.

The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

Change your Attitude

On the path to success always lies big O’s. Some read them as Obstacles, and others read them as Opportunities.

Off course the peasant in the story had to remove the boulder to clear his way, but in doing so he got rewarded. Going round it is was the easy way out. But, then this would not have solved anything and he would have missed out on the unseen reward. He decided to confront the obstacle head on and got his reward. You, see apart from just the gold that he received he also demonstrated responsibility. Just the act of him removing the boulder benefited more people than just him.

Now, we all know that responsibility is a big part of personal development. It is one of the key areas of personal growth and self improvement.

The other lesson learned from the story is that nature is neutral and it pays you for your efforts. Am very sure that if the king had mentioned about the reward the peasant would not have been the one to receive it as they were other people before him. I guess the peasant’s positive attitude towards problem solving was more at play than anything.

Most of the time we miss out on opportunities that could be life changing, all because of our negative attitude. Usually, the hindrances, presented, are telling us something. If you take time and analyse the problem, if you look at it with a positive mind set, it could be pointing you in the right direction for your much needed solution.

Change your attitude, and start looking at challenges with a more positive mental attitude. Overcoming challenges in life is what constitutes personal development. Whatever problems you are facing right now, there is a lesson that life is trying to teach you and they will not get fixed until you learn that lesson.

Learn from your Current Obstacle (s)

To reach maximum potential one must continuously be learning from life. Everyday is an opportunity to improve our lives. The small things that we do are adding up to our lives. We must make a deliberate habit of learning from our daily challenges. You may not be where you want to be in life. Life may have turned out to be what you did not expect. Well, know that you are not alone, there are people in much more difficult situations than you.

The good news though, is that you have built up a wealth of knowledge from your current situation. Armed with it you can change the course of you life. You have gained valuable experiences that have shown you the results of the choices and decisions you have previously made. If you want to make a positive change, you now know what not to do based on your life’s understandings.

I believe you are more and better equipped than before. The hurdles we face in life merely give us a chance to look at things differently. Sometimes, we are so fixed on one thing and do not look at the other side and then bang, we are faced with an obstacle and realise that there is another way of looking at things. The most important thing is not to lose focus and never give-up when faced with adversities. But, use them as a learning base.

Conclusion

Entrepreneurs are simply those who understand that there is little difference between obstacle and opportunity, and are able to turn both to their advantage” – Victor Kiam. The classic story in this article is really an eye opener. It is worth learning from. The story tells many stories and I know that if analysed even further, you will be able to deduce much more from it than I have. You must always try to solve problems than going round them. This is the only way we can help make the world a better place. Standout and always see the opportunity in the obstacles that lie ahead.

Responsibility is a Source of Happiness

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Happiness is not by chance, but by choice” – Jim Rohn. There is a very big relationship between taking more responsibility and being happy. These two thing are intertwined. The more responsible you are the more you enjoy happiness. Being responsible can be a source of great happiness. I have been doing a simple study on people who are seemingly enjoying happiness and have noticed that among the most common factors they share, is that they have taken up more responsibilities in their circles. These are the people who are in the driving seat of their lives.

Following up on this study I decided to take more responsibility, firstly with my own life. Yes, my own life. Most of us are not responsible for our own lives. We live under the shadows of other people. We only want to take responsibility when the right outcomes are achieved, sometimes even for the things that should not even be credited to us. I have seen this type of behaviour especially with our friends in the political world. There is a tendency of wanting to be praised for other peoples efforts.

But also amongst my peers. There is this tendency of only wanting to take credit when things are right, but we do not even want to take full responsibility when our actions are wrong. We always want to blame someone else or give excuses.

Taking Responsibility Puts You in the Drivers Seat

Look, when you take full responsibility for your life, you simply takeover the driving seat. You are in charge. You will accept when things are bad. Being in the driving seat is usually a source of happiness. It gives me joy when a plan comes together. You are happiest when things go according to your plan. If you are in charge you will quickly put up corrective measures when things are drifting away.  “Action may not bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action” – William James.

Taking up responsibility is also an indication of being a good leader. Remember, we are all leaders of our own lives and I believe that at some point you will be made to account for the actions you take in life. The quicker you realise it the better for you.

Personal growth and development is all about taking responsibility for all your actions and not just some. If you want to achieve serious self growth you need to start taking charge of your life. Do not let your mood be determined by other people, they may dampen it. This means taking control of your thoughts, as they are responsible for your emotions; taking control of your emotions as these may lead you to act on impulse. Usually, your predominant thoughts will dictate the state of your mood.

Make a Conscious Decision to be Responsible

The best time to consciously make decisions is in the morning. I have made it a point that every morning before my day gets hectic a decision is made that I will stay focused, be happy and responsible for my actions. Look, no one will make a decision for you unless you approve of it. If you live an unhappy life its your decision; if you are not in charge of your life its your decision. All in all the power to decide is within you. Learn to use it properly.

There is something about doing certain things early in the morning. Your mind just remains focused on them. I usually read through my writing ideas every night before sleeping and every morning when I wake up. Ever since I started this practice, my productivity levels have just been going up. How I wish this had started sometime back. Am writing and publishing articles on a regular basis.

I have taken full responsibility for my actions both positive and negative. On the days that I am not writing I take time to improve my writing skills by reading; researching, listening and watching motivational videos among other things. Yes, sometimes I have to force myself to do these things but I have made it a point that they are done. This is all, is a result of a single decision I make in the morning and that is to be responsible.

Sharing is Caring

They say sharing is caring. Some people find it had to share anything. If they have to share, it is those things that have no meaning and value to them. In other words they share what they call scraps. Well, I guess its human nature but I feel that it is wrong. I read somewhere that all habits are learnable good or bad. This is true. If you can learn bad habits you can also un learn them and replace them with good habits.

There is always something you can share. Sometimes people have lame excuses for not sharing. You will be amazed that the little you think you have some people do not have. I practice an open door policy and have taught my children to always learn to share. I know that sometimes its had, but we must share anyhow. Sharing does not necessarily mean giving out handouts in form of money, it could just be sharing your time to help out someone in need of your skills.

I know that if we all developed and practiced the habit of sharing, the world would be a much much better place. Sharing is also a source of happiness. Let me ask you a question. How do you feel when you see the joy on someone’s face all because you shared something with them? Exactly, that’s why you must share unconditionally more often. When you share do not expect anything back, you are not in control of them. If you expect anything in return more often than not you will be disappointed.

Conclusion

I would like to end by encouraging you to develop the habit of taking responsibility for your life, accept that you are the master of your destiny. Take charge and live a happy life. Learn to also take extra responsibilities and share your gifts with the world. “Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul” – Democritus. Standout tall and be happy.

The Joy of Serving People

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution will ever experience life’s deepest joy; true fulfillment” – Anthony Robbins. We live to serve people. Humanity was created for service. What ever kind of job you do is related to serving people. It may be directly or indirectly interacting with people, but I believe that what ever we do in life is ultimately serving people. If what you do, does not benefit people, it simply means you are robbing the world. Everyday of our lives there is a time when we have to serve someone. No matter what you are or do there comes a time when you have to serve someone. Service that is beneficial to the person being served. People do not realise that there is joy and a lot of satisfaction in being of service.

People remember us by the way we treat them; the way we talk to them. The small things we do and say really matter and count. If you are a parent or a guardian you will agree with me that you take pride and joy when you are being of service to your children or spouse. I always try as much as possible to be of help and make myself available when ever time allows. With the busy schedule I have on my plate I have over the past created some days during the week where I give my family undivided attention. My two children know that they can ask me to play with them and they do not expect any objections. Sometimes my youngest son David will remind me and and say that today is our time with you.

I have noticed that ever since I deliberately created more time for them there is a sense of togetherness. I am beginning to grow more patient with them on so many things. This has helped improve my understanding and enhanced my relationship with my family. I guess this is very important especially that my eldest son Lutangu is getting into his teens. In other words am discovering the other side of me; the patient side of me; the gentle side of me. Because generally I am not a very patient person. Now they look forward to those days. When we are playing games am the one who is usually serving them; am the one who does the dirty work and they get to enjoy seeing me all dirty.

I also serve at church in the traffic department. We are the first people you meet and the last people you see when you come to church on Sundays. It is a tough job especially, on hot and rainy days but the joy and satisfaction you get when serving God’s people is just immeasurable. People will always appreciate the service you render to them no matter what. Even if they don’t thank you immediately they will at some point thank you. All you have to do is to just continue doing what is right. It is such a joy when you find people thanking you for your service. That is why it is always important to say thank you when you are being served, it simply encourages the one providing the service to even do more.

There is Growth from Service

Apart from just the joy you get from serving, there is also personal growth. We are all called to serve. The world needs more people to serve. If you are not deliberately serving people, I encourage you to take time to find something that you can do to serve others. It could be at your work place. Be the one that helps out a colleague; be the one who is more dependable in a certain area. Not just helping your boss but also help your peers. The more you practice to help the more you grow and the more you get satisfaction and derive happiness. The bible says “it is more blessed to give than to receive“. The rewards of serving are immense.

I developed this website not only to share my personal experience but to be of service to people. The articles I write are mainly personal experiences through which I hope that someone is being encouraged and challenged. Over the years I have also enjoyed personal growth because of my own articles. I do a lot of reading and research. As a result I am learning everyday of my life. I can only thank God for the ideas and opportunity he has given me to develop this website. I  believe that am still very much a work in progress. There are many many areas of my life that need to be worked on and slowly but surely they are being turned around.

Conclusion

Love is the joy of the good, the wonder of the wise, the amazement of the Gods” – Plato. Through service of people lives can be changed and transformed. As we serve and grow we should, endeavour to reach out to the world at large. I believe that serving people is also one way to unlocking our full potential. One can realise their potential by being of service to people. Again I would like to encourage you to find something that you can do that can be of service to the community around you. Start small and slowly reach out to a larger audience.  Take joy in serving people. Remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

Appreciating the law of cause and effect

Motivational Quotes

“Cause and effect is as absolute and undeviating in the hidden realm of thought as in the world of visible and material things. Mind is the master weaver, both of the interior garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance” – James Allen. Every choice we make has far-reaching consequences; all actions do. I’m a great believer in the universal principle of cause and effect. What we sow is what we reap. What we say or do comes back to us. Every action has a reaction. What goes around comes around.

All the old sayings are true. If someone is stimulating and inspired, they have an infectious way of exciting and inspiring others. When we give the best we have to give, the best comes back to us and in some way, we are rewarded. It may not be exactly the way we expect, but the more we put into life, the more we get out of it, the more good we experience.

I have been taught since early childhood that it is better to give than to receive. The great secret I grow to discover is that the more I give, the more I possess, or have inwardly. Cause and effect is not only a scientific principle but is also biblical. I believe that to every action there is an equal reaction. Every thought is a cause and every condition is an effect. We must, therefore, be mindful of what thoughts we entertain on a regular basis because they have consequences. Know also that thoughts radiate energy.

Energy, good and bad, affects us. Every deed or action has a cause and effect, as human beings, we have a distinctive aura, an atmosphere, that surrounds us in our thinking, feeling, and actions. Each choice we make makes a difference, for better or worse. We must, therefore, determine the value of an action by weighing it against the value of its consequences. Consider the logical consequence of every action of choice that you make. You and I have the power to produce an action that will achieve a good result that is of benefit to many people and society. We have a great deal of influence on the way we live our lives.

You hold the key

We choose what we want to produce, through our thoughts and actions. Our actions are mainly, influenced by our thoughts. If you are always habouring negative thoughts most likely, your actions will be negative. In other words, your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. This inner world depicts your predominant thoughts. With these thoughts, you choose the course of your life or rather charter the course of your life. “Man breathes his own life into things until finally they begin to live of themselves and to multiply.” – Carl Jung. As human beings, we are responsible for our choices. However, it is amazing to note that we always want to blame others for our shortcomings.

I believe that the best way to get the most out of our short life lives is to put forth more effort. Our lives are made possible by the goodwill and hard work of so many other people. We first have to give, in order to receive the full measure of the abundance of all the good things in life. Choose wisely what actions of others you will pay attention to and those you will ignore. Be sure your actions will bring the results you desire. When you are responsible for the consequences of your actions, when you are never satisfied with what you have done but are dedicated to doing more and better, you will be making a useful and worthwhile contribution to the universe.

In turn, you will be rewarded abundantly for your good work. You are your choices; you choose what you want to manifest with the best-intended results. If you choose the path that leads you to a good life, you will be living in the light. I believe that humanity is about service. I personally derive a lot of pleasure in seeing people happy after being, served.

Why I appreciate the law of cause and effect

There are many reasons why we should learn and appreciate the laws of cause and effect. I will answer this question from the knowledge and benefits I have so far experienced from this law. Knowing about the causes of things and the effects of the causes is surely beneficial in itself. It would be right for me to say that the ordinary man, who has no knowledge about the law of cause and effect, is governed by his feelings or emotions. Most of us grapple with unsuccessful lives because we do not know what the cause of it is. When I read about the laws of cause and effect, it changed my way of thinking.

You will appreciate to know that the law of cause and effect states that “thought, therefore, is the cause, and the experiences with which you meet in life are the effect” just this statement is life-changing. To know that your thoughts are directly responsible for your current situation is just mind-blowing. It is the first step to unlocking your full potential and realigning your life. For me, this simply means that my mind is the doorway to success. If you can change the way, you think, you can change your current circumstances. Therefore, we should be very mindful of what we feed our minds on. Since they say you reap what you sow, you cannot reap happiness if all you feed your mind on is sadness.

Knowledge of this law has helped me to be making conscious decisions about my choices. I keep asking myself if my decisions are beneficial, not only to me but to the people around me, if they make me happy and the people around me. What effect the choices I make will have in my life and how they will help to shape my future. Believe me or not our lives are shaped by the choices we make. I try to make conscious decisions that are more productive and progressive. Of late, I have learned to make proactive choices and have significantly reduced making reactive choices. It is not easy but I feel its something that has to be done. This cannot be achieved, without being prayerful and persistent. Always seek God’s guidance in everything that you do.

Conclusion

“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not something to be waited for, but rather something to be achieved” – William Jennings Bryan.  Learn the principles of the law of cause and effect to help you achieve your destiny. In life, do not expect to achieve different results from what you are doing. If you are expecting to be a good footballer, you are required to practice football and not basketball. Life gives you back an equal measure of what you give it. Bye for now and as usual remember to standout tall and be counted.

Taking the giant step of growth

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

“All growth is from within” ~ Master Key. “Change and growth take place when a person has risked himself and dares to become involved with experimenting with his own life” ~ Herbert Otto. I know and believe that every normal thinking person has a dream, at least I have one. We all want to believe deep down in our souls that we have a special gift, that we can make a difference, that we can touch others in a special way, and that we can help make society and the world at large a better place. The biggest challenge to this belief is ones-self. You are responsible for making it and living your dream life. No one but you alone, are the master of your destiny. The thoughts and actions you make come from within you and hence determine the course of your life’s direction. In this article I try and help you take a leap of personal development by accepting that you play a major role in determining the course of your future.

There are three decisions that you make every moment of your life that shape and control your destiny. These three decisions will control what you will notice, what you will feel, what you will do and finally what you will contribute and who you will become. I believe that if you do not control these decisions it becomes very difficult to take the giant step of growth. It also means to me, that you are not in control of your life. Firstly you must understand that all growth comes from within; growth is embedded thin the inside of you. Jesus gives us the example of the mastered seed in the bible. Out of a small seed grows a huge tree. Where does the tree come from? Off course the external environment plays a part but it is hugely what is inside that determines that extent of growth. If you have very little faith in what you are doing then you might as well stop it and grow the faith before continuing. When you control these three decisions then you begin to shape your destiny.

What is your focus in life?

Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives” ~Tony Robbins. The first step of growth for me to take is the decision is what to focus on. You see, it’s not what is happening to you right now or what happened to you in the past that determines who you want to become. But rather it’s your decision on what to focus on that will help determine your personal growth. Do you want to dwell on the negative past and want to focus on the negative results that you have archived? What you decide to focus on largely determines what results you will accomplish. Focus on negative results and believe me you will have just that. It is very important that you learn to focus on the positive aspects of life even in trying movements. Here is a lesson I have learnt in life it is much easier to walk out when things are not going on well. This I tell you is the easiest decision you can make in life and believe me it is not usually the best one available.

Luckily we all have the ability to make decisions to focus; we all have the some power and consciousness to focus. When you focus this power through attention or concentration on any single purpose for considerable length of time nothing becomes impossible. If you have ever looked through the viewfinder of a camera, you found that when the object was not in focus, the impression was indistinct and possibly blurred, but when the proper focus was obtained the picture was clear and distinct. This illustrates the power of concentration. Unless you can focus and concentrate upon the object which you have in view, you will have but a hazy, indifferent, vague, indistinct and blurred outline of your ideal and the results will be in accordance with your mental picture. We therefore, have no excuse to fail making better decisions.

By making the decision to focus on the right things in life we are taking a giant step of growth. Remember that growth will not come all at once or like manner from heaven. You need to make the right decisions and actions. I want to believe that if you have a written down life’s intended purpose then you have a plan to focus on. The first thing to do before you make the decision to focus is to have a written down life’s purpose as mentioned before. This will give you a better reason to focus and achieve your goals in a more organized manner.

What do things means to you?

“My definition of success is to live your life in a way that causes you to feel a ton of pleasure and very little pain – and because of your lifestyle, have the people around you feel a lot more pleasure than they do pain” ~ Tony Robbins. My second step of growth is the decision about what things mean to you? Well you may want to ask yourself what life means to you; why do you exist? These are just but some of the questions that you may have to know the answers to. The decision about what things mean to you is a huge one that you cannot afford not to make if you have to make the second giant step of growth. Remember you need to know what things mean to you in order to have greater control of your life. After you have made the decision to focus ask yourself what does the thing(s) you are focusing on mean to you; what is the value of it? If it can be quantified put a monetary value to it. They say you heart is where your money is. Where is your heart?

In life we come across so many things and most of them are actually useful for a short while and then become meaningless after some time. Therefore, it is very important that you know when something is of value and when to let go of it. Many of the times we keep holding on even to things that have no more value. We carry a lot of cabbage long with us. Know that if you carry cabbage it is of no value to you. This applies even to people that we come across. Some of them have no value per say in our lives. Yet we continuously spend more time with them. I am not saying you should create enemies but try to spend more time with the people that add value to your life, If you have to grow.

If you have to grow stop taking responsibility for people’s actions. Remember you are accountable for your own actions. I have seen people who want to take responsibility for someone’s actions in the name of pleasing them. This is very wrong, and please know that the best recipe for failure is to try to please everyone. You should attach a value to Personal growth and development. To do this you need firstly to have spelt out your intended life’s purpose. Believe me, if you do not have a written down LIFE’S INTENDED PURPOSE, you are just chasing after the wind. You are flowing with the wind. You have no control of your life’s destiny.

What do you want to do?

I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” —THOMAS EDISON. Lastly the decision to know what you want to do to achieve your goal is very cardinal. This still brings me back to the idea of having a written down life’s intended purpose. Without which you cannot make the decision to know what to do to achieve it. If you went ahead and made the decision, it would be like getting in a car and driving off without a known destination. In other words you would be driving aimlessly. In this case you are living life aimlessly without a written down life’s intended purpose.

Many of us are scared to make decisions of what we want to do or rather how we want to go about achieving our intended life’s purpose, for fear of making the wrong decisions. Believe me we all have made wrong decisions in our lives and we are all going to make wrong ones in future. The key is to be flexible enough to override our earlier decisions and replace them. We do not have to allow the past wrong decisions we made to control our future. Remember your future is affected by the decisions you make now. Always try your level best to think through and possibly delay your decisions so as to make better judgment of what you want to achieve. The best time to make some of these hard decisions is in the night when you are alone and reflecting on your day. Believe me I have made far much better decisions when not rushed. Remember: Success truly is the result of good judgment. Good judgment is the result of experience, and experience is often the result of bad judgment!

Conclusion

Too many of us don’t make the majority of our decisions consciously, especially these three absolutely crucial ones; in so doing, we pay a major price. To avoid making wrong decisions’ we must commit to learning from the earlier mistakes. This is the only way we can improve on our decision making process and stop make better judgment of what decisions are to be made in future. Personal development is a continuous process and does not come without effort. Remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

“Success is a journey not a destination” ~ Ben Sweetland. This is one of my favourite quotes. Indeed success is not a destination that you can say now I have arrived at success. It is a daily way of living. I have come to understand that there is no quick formula to success. We all have asked questions of why are other people more successful than others. I have been doing some research on this question and have come to an understanding and believe that the following key principles have a common ground among successful people. There are a lot other factors that have made different people succeed but all of them have revolved around these 7 principles.

[adrotate banner=”2″]

There are many different ways of measuring success. Some people measure it by the wealth they have accumulated others by what they have achieved. Whatever, measure you choose to use I believe that the 7 principles mentioned in this article will definitely be of use for you. Personal development is directly link to success. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is the attitude towards what they want to achieve. Those who men and women who walk the journey of success are usually persistent and are more motivated and focussed with what they are trying to achieve. And now I present to you the 7 principles of success;-

Set your goals
“If one advances confidently in the direction of their goals and endeavours to live the life that they have imagined, they will meet with success unexpected in common hours” ~ Henry David Thoreau. The principle of goal setting cannot be over emphasised. You cannot call yourself successful if you have no target to achieve. It is there very important that you write down what your intended life’s purpose is before you set out fulfilling it. I believe that all human beings have a God given task to achieve in their lives. Most of us have abandoned or have no idea what that purpose is. Man was not created to live an aimless life. God created you to contribute positively to the human race.

Dr. Myles Monroe says “the richest place on earth is the grave yard” this is because at the grave yard lies ideas that have never been; songs that have never been song; inventions that have never been born. Imagine if you and I play our part in making this world a better place. Setting goals is the first thing that should be done before venturing out to fulfilling your God given purpose. I know that when you write down your goals and read them on a frequent basis, they act as a stimulus and motivation to helping you move towards achieving them. Targets act as reminders. They are meant to be used as a gauge. I have never come across a successful person who has no goals. If you have no goals in life then you are just flowing with the wind. I can rest assure you that if you do not set targets for yourself you will never achieve much.

Forget about failure
“Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently” ~ Henry Ford. We fail because we accept failure. There are many great stories about how people never gave up even when they were faced with the prospect of failing. Failure should be treated as an opportunity to perfect our act. Yes in everything that you set out to do you shall encounter challenges. A challenge is merely there you teach you and tell you to adjust your plans. A word of encouragement to everyone is that there is no success without failure. There is no successful person that has never failed at some point. The difference is perseverance.

When you are starting out with your plans “DO NOT PLAN FOR FAILURE”. Don’t even think about failure; erase it from your mind. When you are faced with failure take it as a challenge face it head on. Failure is as result of wrong thinking and lack of persistence. Put on your positive thoughts and failure will run out through the window. Please understand me very well personal success does not necessarily mean that you will not encounter challenges. If you think that the journey of success is a plain and easy one then you are absolutely mistaken. Walking the journey of success requires persistence; hard work; diligence and perseverance. If you cultivate the habit of persistence you will certainly enjoy the insurance against failure. “Mastery of the Law of Success philosophy is the equivalent of an insurance policy against failure” ~ Samuel Gomers. I have come to realise that one of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is confronted by temporary defeat. Most of us are guilty of this mistake at one time or another. We have all quit at some point in life.

Take one step at a time
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”~ Chinese Proverb. Often times when we set out on a project we have a tendency of doing too many things at a time. I find that there is nothing wrong with multi-tasking but the danger with multi-tasking is that you may lose your focus on your main objective(s). It is therefore, very important that you take one step at a time. Put in mind that you are not racing with anyone. It is your personal achievement program. Your plans will not be very clear as at the beginning but as you take one step at a time the clear picture of what you want to achieve will begin to illuminate.

[adrotate banner=”3″]
The beauty about setting out your life’s purpose is that you do something that you enjoying doing for the rest of your life. The challenges you will face on a daily basis will be more exciting as you overcome them. You will be able to look back with pride and joy at how far you have come. In this part of the world I come from we have a tendency of doing things for the interim. Even our own local businessmen start it businesses just for daily sustenance we have no succession plan. When the owner of the business dies they die with it. There are very few well established businesses that have flourished long after the original owners have passed on. I do not want to be in the bracket of them that dies with the ideas.

Avoid negativity
Watch out for the negative people. Always get around positive people. Find people who will encourage you and compliment what you are doing. You cannot entertain negative thoughts and expect to have a positive outcome? The positive thought will destroy the negative as certainly as light destroys darkness, and the results will be just as effectual. Negativity is the mother of failure. I can challenge you to think of a successful person who has a negative minded personality. One of the major differences between success and failure is positivity and negativity. The more you lean towards positivity the more success you will accomplish or achieve and the opposite is true.

But then you may ask how can I avoid negativity? See 4 tips to help stay positive. In this article you will find some useful tips and information that you can use. Like I said before negativity is the beginning of all failure. The bible says you will reap what you sow. If you sow negativity you will definitely meet with negative results if you are positive you will as well reap positive results. There are very few instances that you reap negative results when you are very optimistic. Avoiding all the negative things in life can help change and enhance your personal success.

Clarify your goals
The goals you set will not be clear at the first instance. If you wait for them to be clear you will never start on your journey and I can assure you they will never be clear. When I first set out my life’s purpose it was very hazy and it only started becoming clearer as I started working the process. Every day I visualise what the end product will be and it gets more and more clear. It is important though at the very beginning to be specific on what you want to achieve example you may have a target to raise say US$5 million in five years. This is a more specific and measurable target than to just say I want to raise a lot of money after 5 years.

Clarifying your goals as you go along is very important as it sets your mind in tune with what you are doing. Have an open mind be more interested in the journey rather than the goal. Remember it is only with unbounded confidence that the goal is reached.

Embrace obstacles
Large ideas have a tendency to eliminate all smaller ideas so that it is well to hold ideas large enough to counteract and destroy all small or undesirable tendencies. This will remove innumerable petty and annoying obstacles from your path. You also become conscious of a larger world of thought, thereby increasing your mental capacity as well as placing yourself in position to accomplish something of value. Obstacles must be embraced; they are part of the journey to success. Obstacles are a way of telling us to change something our plans.

[adrotate banner=”4″]
It is, however, through attention that you will finally be able to overcome obstacles of any kind that appear in your path onward and upward, and the only way to acquire this wonderful power is by practice. Remember practice makes perfect. Difficulties, in harmonies, and obstacles, indicate that we are either refusing to give out what we no longer need, or refusing to accept what we require. Difficulties and obstacles will continue to come until we absorb their wisdom and gather from them the essentials of further growth.

You are not an island
No man is an island. We are all part of one big family and that is the universe. There is a reason why God gives us people to be surrounded with. You should not be ashamed or feel inferior to ask for help. In fact help is everywhere. Solicit for help in areas that you require it. Man is part of one huge universe and each and every one of us has a different role to play just the human body consists of various parts performing different but coordinated functions. Support can come through various different forms, if you are in business it could come through employing people and or delegating some of your duties. You should always endeavour not to live life in isolation. Also try and surround yourself with helpful people. That is those that you can learn something from.

Conclusion
Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving they make mistakes but they do not quit”~ Conrad Hilton. There is no known secret to success, but believe me he who thinks big and acts on his thoughts has every chance to succeed than he who thinks small and does not act on his thoughts. I would like to end by encouraging you try out these principles they could just be what you have been missing in your life above all “standout tall and be counted”.

The dawn of a season

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present” – Unkonwn

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending” ~ Carl Bard. Take heart and give way to the new season. This is my first article for this New Year since my website was hacked. Time flies and waits for no one. Whether you like it or not time will not wait for you. We have just been ushered into a new season and it is still the right time to start afresh or build up on the gains achieved from the past season.  If you are like me and like to set new goals please go ahead and set them. Set this season as the turning point that will see you grow in your weakest areas of your life.

In order to grow you must obtain what is necessary for your growth but, as you are at all times a complete thought entity, this completeness makes it possible for you to receive only as you give; growth is therefore conditioned on reciprocal action just the same as like attracts like. The challenge for you this year is to obtain what is necessary for your growth; to stop those detrimental habits; to build on your business skills; to improve on interpersonal relationships and to grow spiritually.

The challenge

How you respond to the challenge in the second half will determine what you will become after the game, whether you are a winner or loser” ~ Lou Holtz. Think for a moment, what you would be if you were not a husband or wife, father or mother, or brother or sister, if you were not interested in the social, economical, political or religious world. What then would you be? Think about what you were last year; how much you achieved; and how much more you did not achieve; do you want to stay in the same position or do you want to climb the ladder of self-improvement or would you rather take a few steps backwards?

The challenge therefore, for me is to find the right combination and balance of tools or rather characteristics for a more fulfilling personality. The target should be to find the  ingredient’s necessary for my growth. In order to grow I must then, obtain what is essential for my growth. My growth then is dependent on what I take in. Remember first that all growth is from within and that I am the source of that growth. Note that you are also the source of your own growth.

For me to ensure that I reach the optimum growth levels for this year I must make sure that I develop the right mental attitude. This will mean a constant renewal of my mind. I must make a deliberate policy to buy and read self-improvement and development books. It will also mean that I need to focus more on the positive things in life.

Manage your thoughts

It is very amazing to know that all things in the world began as a thought. Even at creation I believe that, God must have first thought before speaking. The saying “as a man thinks so is he in is heart” holds water for me. You always produce what you think. Your outside world is a true reflection of your inside world. If you think cheap you come out cheap. If you set your mind on mediocrity you get exactly that and vice versa. I can challenge you that nothing in this world has been ever invented without first being conceived as thought or an idea by someone. I have noticed that the world has a way of giving us back what we predominantly harbour as thoughts.

This then makes me realize that one of the most important tools we have as human beings is the mind which is the thinking organ. If you can control what thoughts you harbour believe me you are destined to achieve greatness. In this new season I challenge you to start learning how to control and manage your thoughts.

Be proactive and not reactive

The human nature is that of being reactive. Meaning we always wait for the situation to happen and then react after wards. This means that most of the time we are firefighting. That is the difference between successful individuals and those of us that are struggling with life. If you want to be ahead you must be proactive and not reactive. I used to be like this and I can confess that this firefighting syndrome has not completely gone away from me. The best way to handle life is to be prepared for every eventuality. To be proactive is to take measures in advance for an event that will occur including the unexpected.

Like I said this is a new season and with it comes a new tide of everything. The challenge this season is to build on the little gains achieved for being proactive and not reactive. I want to believe that being reactive is a sign of laziness and no lazy person can be successful.

Conclusion

As per tradition for me every New Year is a new season and I always make resolutions and set goals for it.  This is one of the best tools I use to measure my progress towards reaching my personal development goals. I hope and trust that you have formulated one for yourself to keep you going. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted.

Keeping track of your achievements

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive” ~ Harold Whitman. “Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think” ~ Benjamin Disraeli

Positive life changes come to those who show dedication and discipline towards their purpose. Making the decision to change your mind is a step in the right direction. Every achievement has its seed in the mind and can only be realized by deliberate planning and execution. To get to the level of success that one aspires to, one must focus only on the positive things. The ability to stay motivated is the key ingredient to turning the tables on one’s fortunes.

One of the most interesting contributing factors to maintaining the high positive motivation levels always is to be able to physically see and acknowledge the progress and achievements made you have made. I usually take stock of my achievements on a quarterly basis. Some people do it on an annual basis others do it monthly. Keeping track of your achievements is perhaps be the best motivating factor of all because the satisfaction gained from a successfully completed project has no limits.

Keeping Track
Thus being able to keep track of one’s achievements is very important and here are popular ways that are commonly used for this purpose.

At the beginning of most well thought of projects, there is usually a good and reliable strategic plan in place be it marketing, business or personal development. This usually works as a check and balance formula to ensure everything stays on track. If it is a long term project a periodical review is the prudent way of monitoring progress.

Even when the project is successfully completed it is always prudent to draw up a summary of or things covering the details of the major aspects of the project and its contributions to the final outcome, making sure to quantify as many aspects as possible.

Compiling a folder of positive acknowledgements for the job well done is also another way to be able to track achievements. This of course is not only valuable to the future endeavors of the individual but also serves as a motivating factor.

Serving as both testimonials and references, these acknowledgements can also be used to build up an impressive portfolio for the individual from the expertise angle. It is always gratifying and satisfying to look at past projects that you have achieved with distinction. I must say that you should also not forget to look at the under achievements in your project. These can be used as learning lessons.

Participating in as many high profile external activities, company boards, internal committees, representations and other platforms that create the necessary experience and exposure is also recommended. After which keeping a well documented and monitored chart of the said activities to be used as a tracking element is also helpful in encouraging you to keep a positive mindset.

These achievements tracking helps to further project the extensive capabilities of the individual with the intention of creating an impressive portfolio.

Knowledge goes hand in hand with success. We have to learn from what we hear and see. If we surround ourselves with a positive and enriching environment, we accelerate our personal development. Therefore reading empowering books, watching motivational videos and attending seminars on personal development is the way to go.

Conclusion
Amazingly, we already have gathered immense knowledge in our journey of life. Sometimes when we search within ourselves we may find inspirational thoughts from the wealth of our experiences. Instead of tucking away this knowledge, why not write about them to inspire others. One might just find it extremely rewarding to put down one’s inspirational thoughts in an ebook. Bye for now and remember to “standout tall and be counted”.

How to keep track of your thoughts

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny” ~ Frank Outlaw. The lesson learned from the preceding quote is that you are what you are, because of what you think. Therefore, the thoughts you keep in your mind are of paramount importance to building your character. All character and all habits are formed from your thoughts.

It is therefore, important that as you build your character and as you walk on the road of success your thoughts are in tune with your surrounds. Know that your success is the manifestation of your thoughts. It is what you think you are that, will manifest. If your think you are a failure then that is what you will end up to be; if you think otherwise the exact opposite is what you will be. You are the captain of your soul.

What thoughts are right?
Am sure this is the question you really want answered. It is rather difficult for me to answer this question for you as it is an individual’s choice. I would rather you answer it on your own. I have my own answer and I can rest assure you that it is very different from yours. You see one thing I have learned is that the mind does not decipher wrong or right thoughts. It takes whatever, thoughts you allow in. Wrong or right is decided by you.

If you allow your mind to dwell on wrong thoughts you will yield wrong results, if your mind dwells on the right thoughts be rest assured of the right results. In other words you reap what you sow, if you sow positive thoughts you reap positive results and vice versa. What you are from the inside is what comes out of you. You cannot be a devil inside and be an angel outside. The bible says “You shall know them by their fruits”. A farmer cannot plant an almond seed and expect the seed to grow into a guava tree. I have never seen that myself. Somebody help me if they have.

The decision to decide what thoughts are right depends entirely on what you want to achieve in your life. Your thoughts must be inclined to your achievement. For example if you are aiming to have say $5million dollars in five years’ time; your thoughts must have already seen the $5million dollars. You must have convinced in your thoughts that you already have received and begin to work on how you are going to achieve your target. In this case the thoughts of saving and spending less money would be the right ones. The thoughts of how to raise more money would set you on the right path. It would be detrimental to begin to think that money will come without hard work, perseverance and patience.

How to keep track
If thoughts are so important to our lives and success, it then follows, that there must be a way of keeping track of them. As human beings we are prone to easily push aside good thoughts and never recall them. One of the best ways I use to keep track of my thoughts is to have them written down in a note book. I just don’t understand but I know that there is power in writing down something.

I have written down my life’s purpose and continuously write on how best I can achieve or rather attain it. The main theme does not change but the methods being used to get there keep on improving. The more I write about the methods to be used, the more clearer my destination gets. Don’t just write it down and forget it but, read it daily to keep the thoughts fresh. For me writing is the best method I have devised, if you can think of any other method that’s very good. Please follow it religiously and see what results you will achieve.

Keeping track of your thoughts is very important and should be encouraged. The use of mnemonics is also a one good method that can be utilized. You also need to have some “thought time”. This is the time when you are alone and not disturbed. At this particular time search your mind and focus on your written down life’s purpose. Focus on how best you can move towards your set goals and write down every thought and answer that comes to mind. Keep track of them by reviewing them regularly. Off course some will be done away with as they will be unrealistic but still keep track of your thoughts.

Conclusion
I must emphasize and remind you that everything that is, and has been was first conceived as a thought and transmuted into being.  I believe that even GOD had to think before he spoke of creation. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”. Notice that whatever, you say is first processed as a thought before being said. This is how important your thoughts are. Always think before your act and live conscious of your success. Bye for now and always remember to “standout tall and be counted” by thinking positively.
