Responsibility is a Source of Happiness

Motivational Quotes

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” – Serenity Prayer

Cease to ask what the morrow will bring forth, and set down as gain each day that Fortune grants.” – Horace.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called present.” – Unknown

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

Happiness is not by chance, but by choice” – Jim Rohn. There is a very big relationship between taking more responsibility and being happy. These two thing are intertwined. The more responsible you are the more you enjoy happiness. Being responsible can be a source of great happiness. I have been doing a simple study on people who are seemingly enjoying happiness and have noticed that among the most common factors they share, is that they have taken up more responsibilities in their circles. These are the people who are in the driving seat of their lives.

Following up on this study I decided to take more responsibility, firstly with my own life. Yes, my own life. Most of us are not responsible for our own lives. We live under the shadows of other people. We only want to take responsibility when the right outcomes are achieved, sometimes even for the things that should not even be credited to us. I have seen this type of behaviour especially with our friends in the political world. There is a tendency of wanting to be praised for other peoples efforts.

But also amongst my peers. There is this tendency of only wanting to take credit when things are right, but we do not even want to take full responsibility when our actions are wrong. We always want to blame someone else or give excuses.

Taking Responsibility Puts You in the Drivers Seat

Look, when you take full responsibility for your life, you simply takeover the driving seat. You are in charge. You will accept when things are bad. Being in the driving seat is usually a source of happiness. It gives me joy when a plan comes together. You are happiest when things go according to your plan. If you are in charge you will quickly put up corrective measures when things are drifting away.  “Action may not bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action” – William James.

Taking up responsibility is also an indication of being a good leader. Remember, we are all leaders of our own lives and I believe that at some point you will be made to account for the actions you take in life. The quicker you realise it the better for you.

Personal growth and development is all about taking responsibility for all your actions and not just some. If you want to achieve serious self growth you need to start taking charge of your life. Do not let your mood be determined by other people, they may dampen it. This means taking control of your thoughts, as they are responsible for your emotions; taking control of your emotions as these may lead you to act on impulse. Usually, your predominant thoughts will dictate the state of your mood.

Make a Conscious Decision to be Responsible

The best time to consciously make decisions is in the morning. I have made it a point that every morning before my day gets hectic a decision is made that I will stay focused, be happy and responsible for my actions. Look, no one will make a decision for you unless you approve of it. If you live an unhappy life its your decision; if you are not in charge of your life its your decision. All in all the power to decide is within you. Learn to use it properly.

There is something about doing certain things early in the morning. Your mind just remains focused on them. I usually read through my writing ideas every night before sleeping and every morning when I wake up. Ever since I started this practice, my productivity levels have just been going up. How I wish this had started sometime back. Am writing and publishing articles on a regular basis.

I have taken full responsibility for my actions both positive and negative. On the days that I am not writing I take time to improve my writing skills by reading; researching, listening and watching motivational videos among other things. Yes, sometimes I have to force myself to do these things but I have made it a point that they are done. This is all, is a result of a single decision I make in the morning and that is to be responsible.

Sharing is Caring

They say sharing is caring. Some people find it had to share anything. If they have to share, it is those things that have no meaning and value to them. In other words they share what they call scraps. Well, I guess its human nature but I feel that it is wrong. I read somewhere that all habits are learnable good or bad. This is true. If you can learn bad habits you can also un learn them and replace them with good habits.

There is always something you can share. Sometimes people have lame excuses for not sharing. You will be amazed that the little you think you have some people do not have. I practice an open door policy and have taught my children to always learn to share. I know that sometimes its had, but we must share anyhow. Sharing does not necessarily mean giving out handouts in form of money, it could just be sharing your time to help out someone in need of your skills.

I know that if we all developed and practiced the habit of sharing, the world would be a much much better place. Sharing is also a source of happiness. Let me ask you a question. How do you feel when you see the joy on someone’s face all because you shared something with them? Exactly, that’s why you must share unconditionally more often. When you share do not expect anything back, you are not in control of them. If you expect anything in return more often than not you will be disappointed.

I would like to end by encouraging you to develop the habit of taking responsibility for your life, accept that you are the master of your destiny. Take charge and live a happy life. Learn to also take extra responsibilities and share your gifts with the world. “Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; the feeling of happiness dwells in the soul” – Democritus. Standout tall and be happy.

I have a very huge passion for personal development and Self growth so this month I thought to list my fifty personal development sites. The methods used are subjective but they are currently the most reliable and widely acceptable. I used the alexa traffic rank system and the google page rank system. I have arranged the sites according to the alexa ranking. It was actually very difficult for me to come up with the list so I used the following combination of keywords; Motivation, Positive Thinking, Self Help, Self-Improvement, Self-Development, Personal Development, Self-Growth, Personal Growth, Personal Development and success, Personal Growth and Success. I hope you find it useful.

[table “1” not found /]

It is an honor for me to produce such useful information for my readers. If you are like me and enjoy the subject of personal development am sure you have found this list very useful. I will endeavour to produce another such list at the end of the year. I believe that this is one way of giving. I would also appreciate a link back from the webmasters of the above listed sites. I have also been trying to host a monthly carnival but have had challenges receiving submissions ever since went down. I will in the near future announce how to submit your carnivals for inclusion in the upcoming ones. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”.

7 tips for self-improvement and success

“All the evidence that we have indicates that it is reasonable to assume in practically every human being, and certainly in almost every newborn baby, that there is an active will toward health, an impulse towards growth, or towards the actualization” ~ Abraham Maslow. Life naturally dictates that we move from point A to point B to point C. None of us will remain at the same point or place. It is therefore in our nature that we seek self-improvement in our daily lives. Yes we all grow as nature dictates the difference however, is growth that benefits not only you as an individual but society at large.

Self-improvement and success does not come easily; it comes with hard work and perseverance. It takes time to build and nurture the right mental attitude and character to achieve self-improvement. There can never be self-improvement without personal growth. You see personal growth follows knowledge; action follows inspiration; opportunity follows perception. The distinction between success and failure lies in what kind of growth one has attained. To achieve better personal development and success we must strive to improve ourselves holistically.

So what does it take to be a cut above the rest? I have drawn below a list of tips that have been very beneficial to me as I walk on my success journey. These tips can be practiced one per week in order to get maximum benefits.

What is your intended life’s purpose?
Many people fail because of a lack of a well-defined purpose in life. The first and foremost important tip is having a written down life’s intended purpose. Before you even begin on your journey of personal development it is very important to know what you want achieve with your life. There is no hope of success for the person who does not have a central purpose, or definite goal at which to aim. If you are wandering through life with little or no direction – hoping that you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity; identify your life’s purpose or mission statement and write it down, this will give you your own unique compass that will lead you to your north every time.

This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end. But there’s always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself. Having a written down life’s intended purpose really takes a lot of excess baggage and makes you focus on what you want to achieve. Just imagine how light you will be when you have your life’s goals in your hands. This I believe is the beginning for self-improvement and personal success. Your life’s purpose gives you a measure and direction of your achievements otherwise you will have no yardstick to measure your success. It is therefore important that you invest time researching your persona; knowing your weaknesses and strengths; knowing what flows naturally from you. Remember that we were all created with unique talents for the benefit of humanity.

Do you know your values?
The second on list of tips is about knowing your values. I am sure that we all have values it is just a question of having the right ones. What do you value most? You will realise that as you list down your values they will be closely related with your life’s purpose. Make a list of your top 5 values these should be the ones that comes to your mind right away. Some examples are security both financial and personal, freedom, family, spiritual development and learning and peace. Check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn’t align with any of your top five values you may want to reconsider it or revise it.

Your values will mainly consist of your strengths and weaknesses. This might be the right list to use when deriving your life’s purpose. The values we have are a direct reflection of our inner self. Remember you are what you think and your thoughts form your character. The qualities of your values are mainly determined by what you feed your mind. In essence your thoughts have a direct bearing on your values. In order to enhance your self-improvement process I encourage you to feed your mind with the right stuff. I have always said that one of the best ways to renewing your mind is by reading and listening. Ensure that you acquire as much knowledge as possibly can and take action.

Knowledge increases your personal self-improvement rate. Remember that your value is established entirely by your ability to render useful service or your capacity to induce others to render such service. In relation to establishing what you value most do not forget to attach value to your personal skill set with respect to your life’s purpose.

Know your needs
Brian Tracy Personal DevelopmentThe next tip is about knowing your needs. We all have needs and these have to be me. Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are so many people who live their lives without realizing their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top four needs and get them met before it’s too late! The say necessity is the mother of all inventions.

It is very important to differentiate between your ‘wants’ and your needs. Having needs does not mean they are all important. We humans have a lot of unnecessary ‘wants’ that we think are needs. Some needs are a waste of resources. You should be able to categorise your needs into necessities and non-necessities. I will give you an example of owning a car, yes a car is a necessity but, what type of a car meets your needs? Such reasoning will help you make right decisions as you strive to reach your personal goals. As you walk the journey of self-improvement there is always going to be challenges that will come your way in the form of ‘wants’. The body may want something that may not necessarily add value to your progress.

What are your passions?
We all have passions, don’t we? The next tip is about knowing your passions. Knowing your passions is key in determining what you want to achieve in life. Do you know who you are and what you truly enjoy in life? The answer to this question might just be what your intended purpose in life is. Review it and compare it with what you have written down as your intended life’s purpose. Obstacles like doubt and lack of enthusiasm will only hinder you, but will not derail your chance to become the person you ought to be. Express yourself and honor the people who have inspired you to become the very person you want to be.

You see having a clear mind about your passions and synchronising them with your life’s purpose makes your work easier and enjoyable. Self-improvement is not a punishment it is about living life the way you want it. I always advise people to make their passions a career. If you intend to be successful in business make sure your business is around your passion. This way you will be doing what makes you happy every day and earning a living from it.

You live from the inside out
There is a world within which is governed by the mind and the world without which is the reflection of the world within. Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by regularly reflecting in silence. Learn to commune with nature. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”. Your character and habits are a true reflection of what your world within is about.

What appears without is what has been found within. In the world within may be found infinite Wisdom, infinite Power and infinite Supply of all that is necessary, waiting for unfoldment, development and expression. Therefore, it is very important that the world within is fed the right stuff. Remember we said that this world within is governed by the mind. Your mind is therefore your greatest asset. Learn to safe guard it. One of the best ways you can help safe guarding your mind and enhance your self-improvement skills is by reading motivational books and thinking positively.

Explore your strengths
Remember I talked about knowing your weaknesses and strengths when writing your life’s purpose? Well it is now time for me to pay special attention to your strengths. What are your positive traits? What special talents do you have? List three – if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify these. Are you imaginative, witty, and good with your hands? Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know with others.

Your strengths are your weapon to self-improvement. Work to sharpen them on a regular basis. This does not mean you neglect your weaknesses. These too need attention. Remember you are improving yourself holistically. The benefits of improving your weaknesses are immeasurable. Always find new ways to explore your strengths and put them to good use. Personal development is about achieving your goals and learning to share them. The only way you can improve your skills set is by exploring your strengths.

Service to humanity is key
Service service service. We were created to serve each other. There is no greater satisfaction than to serve others. When you live authentically, you may find that you develop an interconnected sense of being. When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others. The rewards for sharing your gift with those close to you is indeed rewarding, much more if it were to be the eyes of a stranger who can appreciate what you have done to them.
[adrotate group=”1″]
All these invention and technological advancement we are experiencing are intended to serve humanity. People must learn to appreciate serving others before themselves and this begins with you and me taking the first step. “Be the change you want to see in the world” ~ Mahatma Ghandi.

Self-improvement is indeed one type of work that is worth it. It shouldn’t always be within the confines of an office building, or maybe in the four corners of your own room. The difference lies within ourselves and how much we want to change for the better. As we take our journey of personal development success let us endeavour to learn to serve one another for the betterment of our planet. Remember we only have one home and it is our responsibility to make it a better place for all humanity. Peace and love, “standout tall and be counted.

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself” ~ George Bernard Shaw. Before we start please get a piece of paper and write down the answer to the following questions. What do you think about yourself, what do you think your colleagues and peers think about you? The answers off course will vary from individual to individual and will reflect what you think you radiate and transmit to your associates and peers. Galileo Galilei once said “you cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself”. What most of us do not know is that our positive spirit is the adventurer in us. It’s just a glimpse of what we are capable of doing. Yourself image is the person you think you are. You are your own creation.

When you carry a low self-image you attract into your life all the experiences and conditions that tell you how poor and pathetic you are. Conversely when you are high in spirits you attract all the experiences telling you how great you are. When you have learned to form mental images of the conditions desired, it will be the easier and quickest way to secure results; if not, results can be accomplished by argument, by the process of convincing yourself absolutely of the truth of your statement. Personal development and success has no room for a negative self-image. Which successful person have you ever seen carrying or putting on a low self-image?

Have a positive mind
“Whatever, the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve” ~ Napoleon Hill. Life requires us to put on a positive self-image. You see everything begins with your mind. Have you ever noticed that that when you have a positively inclined mind about something the results follow suit? If you have never observed this try to deliberately have a positive conscious mind about something good happening to you today. Believe me just the thought will make you will feel good and act positively. Imagine living in a society with positive minded people. Individuals, who do not talk or act negatively towards each other, well it all starts with one person and that person is you. Creating a positive mind is one sure way of creating a positive self-image.

With a positive self-image even the people around you will be infected with it. This I guess is the only decease you and I would be glad to spread. They will begin to treat you positively. Remember you attract what you think. The more ambitious and positive you think the more you attract those things that you will need to prosper. Yes I agree that you may be distracted by temporal setbacks. But remember they are temporal and they offer us an opportunity to learn and grow from them. Image how boring life would be without challenges? Without having to sweat before sweet comes. Most of us especially the young generation, we want to have sweet before we sweat. We want to cut corners and start enjoying good things where we did not sow, the end result is usually terrible.

I believe that if God intended for us to enjoy everything at the same time he would have done that. But, then that’s not the case. That is why he gave us stages in life. First you feed on your mother’s milk before you graduate to feeding on solids. You start small and as you learn how to handle small things he increases upon your responsibilities. Some of us though, have remained and have not grown to handle larger responsibilities. This has mainly got to do with our mind set. Do you realise that we all have the same mind? It is the same mind that is in you and me. It is the same mind that has had great inventions. The difference between success and failure is how we have positioned our mind. What mental self-image do you carry in your mind? Having a positive mind set will definitely radiate a positive self-image.

Act positively
They say actions speak louder than words. True to this is how you act in different situations. If you have to build a positive self-image then you have to act accordingly. Even when you have been challenged, be it physically or otherwise. A positive reaction attracts positive results. You cannot create a positive self-image just in your mind without reflecting it. Your outward behaviour is a reflection or a mirror of your inner self. I always say that our outer reaction is an accumulation of our inner image. One always reveals themselves by how they react especially in challenging situations.

Self-image can only be reflected by your actions. Therefore, it is very important to act positively if you have to create a positive self-image. Without action there is no reaction. Imagine all the great inventors did not act on their thoughts, we would not have been privileged to be using computers today later on the internet. Action is the key to every outcome. There would be no outcome without some action and reaction. Personal development requires us to act on the knowledge that we accumulate. I don’t know about you but the knowledge I acquire is for sharing with the people I come into contact with including you reading this article. It is no use accumulating knowledge and not acting on it.

The difference between success and failure is the luck of action or acting on the wrong side of the coin. Positive action will surely enhance your self-image. There are many situations that will come your way in life and will require your action. In this instance your actions will be a reflection of your self-image. This is when it matters most, what you feed your mind. If your mind is not well feed it will be revealed. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”. Our thoughts are predominantly what we see, hear and read.

“Watch your thoughts; they become your words. Watch your words; they become your actions. Watch your actions; they become your habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny” ~ Frank Outlaw.

Renew your mind
“You shall be transformed by the renewing of your mind” ~ the Bible. Nothing beats the renewing of your mind other than by reading. It is far the best way to renewing your mind. What you feed your mind is very important. From the time you are born to the time you grow up most of your character is as a result of what has been feed to your mind. I will give an example, if you grew up in a home where your parents fought every now and again you will most likely end up doing the same. It may not be your fault but your mind is conditioned that way. That is why it is important to feed your mind with the right stuff. If you are a parent PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING especially with your spouse that sends a wrong self-image in front of your children. Their mind is like a camera they never forget easily; remember that they learn from us. We as parents are responsible for nourishing their fragile minds.

I have given myself a target of reading one personal development and self-growth book every month this is besides the bible off course. I know this is not much of a target but atleast I feed my mind positively. Believe me reading especially the bible, helps to build my self-image. I have always emphasied in my previous articles on the importance of reading. If there is anything that you will not leave with anyone on this earth when you die, it is knowledge not unless you impart it on them. Therefore, when you acquire knowledge it is your choice whether to keep it to yourself or share it. Please don’t be self-fish learn to share so as to make this world a better place. I am only saying this to emphasise the need to read. The Bible says “By wisdom the earth’s foundation was formed”. Wisdom is gained through knowledge and the main source of knowledge is reading. You cannot make a wise decision without having knowledge.

“If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest” ~ Benjamin Franklin.

Having a positive self-image can greatly accelerate your personal development and success process. We as human beings must always endeavour to improve on our self-image after all we were created in the image of GOD. The more positive your self-image is the more confident you are, carrying about your daily life. This also gives you more confidence in achieving your, written down life’s intended purpose. I know that there are many other ways that you can use to help improve your self-image. I would encourage you to take them one step at a time. Always remember that you are not in a race. Personal development is your own race and only move at the pace you set yourself. You are not competing with anyone. Stay blessed and always remember to “standout tall and be counted” thank you.

Motivation Motivational Personal Development

Addressing the 3 main motivation killers

Even though motivation is a key factor when it comes to issues of personal development and self-growth it is not always easy to stay motivated. Most successful people, be it sports men/women, movie actors, politicians, businessmen etc. will tell you that without being motivated by something, they would not have attained greatness. “To succeed you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you” ~ Tony Dosset. There has to be a motivating factor for you to continuously pursue your life’s purpose. Motivation is one of the single most factors that distinguish success from failure. But we all at some point in our life’s journey get demotivated for various reasons. There is nothing wrong with it, we are human and it’s in our nature. The difference is how we handle life’s challenges. How we rise up and get over it.

I have analysed the main reasons for being demotivated, let’s first outline the 3 motivation killers and proceed to addressing them.

Lack of self confidence
The first one is a lack of self-confidence all together. Why would you continue to do something if you don’t believe that you can do it? If you are a cyclist and have entered into a competition would you go ahead to participate in it if you think you cannot win it? For all I know those who are successful participate in competitions with the aim to win and not to lose. Let’s take two soccer teams for example competing in the world cup final. I would like to believe that the team that carries the day is the one with the right confidence and show that they really want it.

When you lack self-confidence it is almost impossible to succeed. Confidence enhances our motivation. It is true that when you have high levels of confidence so is your motivational levels and the opposite is equally true. A low or no self-confidence generates low or no motivational. The greatest enemy to developing a positive high confidence is fear; it can also generate low self-confidence. It is therefore very important that you try as much as possible to avoid lacking self confidence.

“Have your heart in your life’s work, and be stout-hearted. Do something, act always, and do it now. Don’t be afraid. Many a man has been defeated by his doubts—lack of confidence. Take your risks —you cannot eliminate them, you cannot escape them. You can diminish them by dominating them” ~ Batten’s Wedge.

Lack of focus
“Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives” ~ Tony Robbins. Do you know what it is that you want to achieve, if not, why should you take action; why should you be motivated? You cannot start a journey without a final destination in mind unless you are tourist. You cannot start something without knowing exactly what you want to achieve. Otherwise you will find yourself with a lot of goals that are difficult to achieve. You need to concentrate on a narrow path that is manageable to achieve. You need to focus on what you want to achieve in with your life. Having a clearly written down life’s purpose is the beginning point for focusing.

When I started my path on self-development I listed down quite a number of goals and began to narrow them down as time passed by. You will notice that at the very beginning when we set out, we have a number of goals to be achieved but, as time goes by and as the picture becomes clearer you will be forced to adjust your goals. The important thing however, is to get started with at least a good understanding of what you what to achieve. It will definitely be very blurred and unclear. The time and thoughts wasted in aimless effort would accomplish wonders if properly directed with some special object in view.

Lack of a sense of direction
Insight enables us to plan to advantage and turn our thought and attention in the right

direction, instead of into channels which can yield no possible return. You cannot have a sense of direction without understanding what you want to achieve. However, if you know what you want and believe that you can achieve it but have no clue how to get started, you can be very demotivated. Have you ever felt that whatever you are doing has no sense of direction and what was your reaction to it? Exactly you quit and refocused.

Though when starting out, sometimes you may find yourself in the situation were you feel you have no direction, being in there may help you create direction. Whatever you do in life you must always make sure that you have a sense of direction. It may not be clear to people around you but for as long as you feel it is for you, continue in the same path. We have outlined the 3 main motivation killers above. It is now time that we move on and focus our attention on how to address them. We will now proceed in the same manner as before until we reach the conclusion.

Addressing a lack of self confidence
“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence” ~ Helen Keller. Thoughts of courage, power, confidence and hope all produce a

corresponding state, but the one enemy which must be absolutely destroyed before there is any possibility of letting any light shine is fear. Fear is an enemy of success. Remember that fear is a very strong emotion and has the ability to derail anyone who harbours it. Here are some suggestions that can help address a lack of self-confidence;-

  • Focusing on what you already have achieved than what you do not have. Appreciate what you have. After all they say “a bird in hand is better than one in the bush”.
  • Create your own positive mantra that will assist you to boost yourself up.
  • Speak positive things to yourself every day. If no one compliments you on your work why not do it yourself. Tell yourself how well you have done. Find ways of rewarding yourself for your work.
  • Learn also to accept compliments when they come along and enjoy the feedback. Compliments are good but they should not get to your head. Sometimes we have a tendency of over reacting to compliments from other people.
  • Keep reminding yourself of the good things that you have achieved and have gained. We all have done good, at some point. This will surely lift your spirits. I believe that even the worst condemned person on earth has some goodness in them. Remember we are all created in God’s image and God is love.

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt. Personal development demands that you have confidence in whatever, you are doing for your own success.

Addressing a lack of focus
Brian Tracy Personal DevelopmentOne of the best ways to defeat a lack of focus is to set goals for yourself that are reasonable and achievable. The very act of goal setting puts a structure around your random thoughts and keeps you focused on them, that’s why, it is important to have your goals written down. Read them on a daily basis and make sure you can recite them. Goal setting is one of the key areas of personal
development and self-growth. Instead of worrying about the future and what it will bring set down and gain what fortune grants. Focus on how you can help change the situation.

I recently listened to Brian Tracy’s DVD entitled “the miracle of self-discipline” Where he teaches about daily goal setting. This DVD is life changing. You can get some of his great works by clicking here. Remember that the consciousness that focuses in your brain cells is the same consciousness which focuses in the brain cells of every other individual. You need to develop sense of focus and fine tune it. It may not be easy for some to develop it at the beginning but with practice you will improve it.

“One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular” ~ Tony Robbins.

Address a lack of sense of direction
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined” ~ Henry David Thoreau. Addressing this one is tricky especially if you are just starting on your road to success. As the Chinese say “a journey of 3000 miles begins with one step”. It does not say whether it’s a step in the right or wrong direction the most important thing is to take the first step. Daunting as it may seem the direction will become clearer as you break down your goals into smaller manageable ones. Remember you cannot skip from 1 to 3000 miles. You need to plan on how to reach the next mile and make adjustments as you get to know the terrain better. This way you will have a sense of direction and appreciate your journey.

As they say Rome was not built in one day. When you have built the right sense of direction you tend to be motivated and feel comfortable with what you are trying to achieve. One of the best ways to creating a good sense of direction is writing down what you want to achieve and breaking it down into small achievable goals. “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will” ~ Vince Lombardi.

All normal human beings want to have personal success at whatever they are doing.

Any normal and ambitious being will pride themselves in whatever endeavours they are engaged in.

I want to believe that no single person wants to show their failed results before they succeed.

Usually, we will brag and talk about our failures only after success has been realized or achieved.

In my quest to achieve my personal intended goals I have asked myself some questions and these I hope will help guide you as well.

Simple though they may seem, these questions can literally change your life they could help accelerate to achieve your personal success.

Have I Neglected a Fundamental Skill?

Before you answer this question ask yourself if you even have the basic skill.

Regardless of what you do for a living, you cannot succeed if you’re failing to master the basics.

In every area and aspect of our lives, there are basics. You do not expect a baby to start running before it learns how to sit and walk for example.

You need to identify the basic requirements for whatever endeavours you are involved with and ensure that you have the basic skill set.

Many of the times people set out to do something without the necessary fundamental skill set.

For example, to succeed in any business you need to gather the needed basic skill set before you even venture out.

If you want to own and run a home business, say an affiliate marketing program. You will of course need to do market research and understand the niche you are entering into.

You must acquire the basic knowledge and apply it in your business for better results and success. The same applies if you are involved with personal development and coaching.

The lesson here is simply to learn and do the basics of your job. Unless you’re doing that, you can forget about success, because it’s just not going to happen.

It is better not to reinvent the wheel but improve on the wheel.

Is There a Bad Habit I Should Stop?

Great! You’re doing the basics, so now it’s time to look at the stuff that’s getting in your way.

Look at your daily routine, your weekly activities, your monthly commitments.

If you’re like most people, you’re probably doing things that aren’t just useless, but counterproductive. You are doing business as usual.

Stop and check your daily activities and start doing “business unusual”.

Yes even for me there are a lot of bad habits I am working to improve on that are very detrimental to my progress.

Things like computer games, web surfing and more, these I find very destructive to my progress.

I am slowly learning how to use the web for my growth and not otherwise. Take care with how you use the internet, it can be destructive if not properly used.

Whatever it is for you, you’ll get a huge burst of productivity when you limit (or stop) these behavioral impediments to your success.

Do I Need to Upgrade My Basic Skills?

Now it’s time to examine the basic skills required for your job and identify any that need improvement.

For example, if you’re in sales, maybe you’re good at asking questions and presenting solutions, but tend to hem and haw when it’s time to close the deal. If so, work on your closing skill.

There are many ways you can use to improve your skillset. The one I use most is reading relevant materials.

You could choose further training if you want to have a recognized qualification depending on what your demands are with your current situation.

Upgrading your basic skill set will definitely give you an edge over your competition. I encourage you to have an open mind and always embrace change.

If you are a manager be a good listener to your subordinates. Do not feel threatened if you have a member who has more knowledge than you.

Instead, embrace them and learn from them and use them to get better results.

Besides, it does not mean that when you are the manager you are the most intelligent no no no neither do you have the monopoly of knowledge.

What Extra Skill Will Bring Me the Greatest Success?

It’s time to take a big step in your endeavours. From this perspective, identify a skill or habit that today is totally foreign to you but which, if mastered, would also propel you to a level of success far beyond your current situation.

Do not remain stagnant or content with your current skills set. Find a new skill to propel you even further with your personal success.

For example, suppose you’re a brilliant innovator and have mastered all the basics of engineering.

What would happen if you mastered the ability to sell your ideas to anyone?

Similarly, suppose you’re making a decent living in Sales. How much more successful would you become if you mastered business accounting?

There are many more questions you can ask yourself that will help propel you to even greater heights if you have to achieve your personal success.

Make sure that you answer them honestly and always improve on them. It is always better to have a written down life’s mission that should be read on a daily basis and used to monitor your success progress.

Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”. Revised on 02/05/2021.
