Today the world is fighting an invisible enemy. An enemy that has the capacity to inflict serious scars on the population of the world within a short period of time, a virus called COVID 19. This virus is almost bringing the world to a halt. There is very little human traffic across the globe, especially in the hard hit areas like the USA and Europe. As most countries have implemented stringent measures to help mitigate the spread of the deadly COVID 19 virus. Some countries around the world are in lock down. The challenge being faced by most governments is enforcing the lock down measures.

My thoughts however, go out to the families that have been directly infected and affected by the pandemic. It is my prayer that God will strengthen you and give you comfort at this very trying moment. I know its not an easy period and I never thought I would live to see and experience such uncertainty in the future of the world. I have been reading on social media on the many conspiracy theories about the virus and its origins.

My take for now is that the current conspiracy theories being thrown around are not helping matters. Pointing accusing fingers on who caused it and how it came to be in existence is a waste of time and is actually giving more ammunition to the enemy. I believe that we should be channeling our energies, efforts and ideas on how best we can help stop and prevent the further spread of the COVID 19 virus.

How to stay safe

In addition to the following recommended preventive measures:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Maintain at least 1 metre distance between you and people coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • Stay home if you feel unwell.
  • Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.
  • Practice physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large groups of people.

I encourage you to memorise and recite what the bible says in Psalm 91:

What are some of the symptoms

According to the World Health Organisation the COVID 19 virus has more devastating effects on people who have an underlying medical condition and those who are over the age of 60 years. However, this does not mean that the rest of the group are exempt. We are all at risk of being infected, if we do not take precautions and become exposed to the virus. The underlined common symptoms are:

  • fever; tiredness; dry cough.

Other symptoms include:

  • shortness of breath; aches and pains; sore throat and very few people will report diarrhoea, nausea or a runny nose.

Do not hesitate to self isolate and seek medical help of you present yourself with the above mentioned symptoms. seeking early treatment is key to saving your life.

Conclusion

We have been told that the best way to stop the virus from spreading further is to stay at home and maintain high levels of personal hygiene. The virus does not move on its own. If you move you increase the risk of contracting it and passing it on to other people. This calls for concerted efforts across  the whole world. Its time for countries to unite with a purpose and that begins with you and I. Its time for those charged with leadership positions to show leadership. Lets put aside our ethnic, cultural, economic, racial, tribal and political differences and unite with one common go. That go is to eradicate the deadly COVID 19 virus. Lets all standout and be counted in this fight.

How to keep track of your thoughts

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny” ~ Frank Outlaw. The lesson learned from the preceding quote is that you are what you are, because of what you think. Therefore, the thoughts you keep in your mind are of paramount importance to building your character. All character and all habits are formed from your thoughts.

It is therefore, important that as you build your character and as you walk on the road of success your thoughts are in tune with your surrounds. Know that your success is the manifestation of your thoughts. It is what you think you are that, will manifest. If your think you are a failure then that is what you will end up to be; if you think otherwise the exact opposite is what you will be. You are the captain of your soul.

What thoughts are right?
Am sure this is the question you really want answered. It is rather difficult for me to answer this question for you as it is an individual’s choice. I would rather you answer it on your own. I have my own answer and I can rest assure you that it is very different from yours. You see one thing I have learned is that the mind does not decipher wrong or right thoughts. It takes whatever, thoughts you allow in. Wrong or right is decided by you.

If you allow your mind to dwell on wrong thoughts you will yield wrong results, if your mind dwells on the right thoughts be rest assured of the right results. In other words you reap what you sow, if you sow positive thoughts you reap positive results and vice versa. What you are from the inside is what comes out of you. You cannot be a devil inside and be an angel outside. The bible says “You shall know them by their fruits”. A farmer cannot plant an almond seed and expect the seed to grow into a guava tree. I have never seen that myself. Somebody help me if they have.

The decision to decide what thoughts are right depends entirely on what you want to achieve in your life. Your thoughts must be inclined to your achievement. For example if you are aiming to have say $5million dollars in five years’ time; your thoughts must have already seen the $5million dollars. You must have convinced in your thoughts that you already have received and begin to work on how you are going to achieve your target. In this case the thoughts of saving and spending less money would be the right ones. The thoughts of how to raise more money would set you on the right path. It would be detrimental to begin to think that money will come without hard work, perseverance and patience.

How to keep track
If thoughts are so important to our lives and success, it then follows, that there must be a way of keeping track of them. As human beings we are prone to easily push aside good thoughts and never recall them. One of the best ways I use to keep track of my thoughts is to have them written down in a note book. I just don’t understand but I know that there is power in writing down something.

I have written down my life’s purpose and continuously write on how best I can achieve or rather attain it. The main theme does not change but the methods being used to get there keep on improving. The more I write about the methods to be used, the more clearer my destination gets. Don’t just write it down and forget it but, read it daily to keep the thoughts fresh. For me writing is the best method I have devised, if you can think of any other method that’s very good. Please follow it religiously and see what results you will achieve.

Keeping track of your thoughts is very important and should be encouraged. The use of mnemonics is also a one good method that can be utilized. You also need to have some “thought time”. This is the time when you are alone and not disturbed. At this particular time search your mind and focus on your written down life’s purpose. Focus on how best you can move towards your set goals and write down every thought and answer that comes to mind. Keep track of them by reviewing them regularly. Off course some will be done away with as they will be unrealistic but still keep track of your thoughts.

Conclusion
I must emphasize and remind you that everything that is, and has been was first conceived as a thought and transmuted into being.  I believe that even GOD had to think before he spoke of creation. The bible says “as a man thinketh so is he in his heart”. Notice that whatever, you say is first processed as a thought before being said. This is how important your thoughts are. One of the keys to being able to maintain the motivation levels for any project is found in the ability to stay positive no matter what the circumstances are. Having a positive mindset is not only an asset to any endeavor but also to the individual as people generally like being around positive minded people.

There are several ways to learn how to stay within a positive mindset always. Below are just some simple recommendations anyone can follow to have positive thoughts:

The mind
Perhaps the first recommendation would be to start with the focus of the mind at any given time. Our mind is key to staying motivated and inspired. Training the mind to only recognize the positive elements in any situation or circumstance is one good habit to follow. This is because the perception formed in the mind generally dictates the rest of the individual’s response. Therefore if the mind is able to process information in a positive manner then there is a better chance of facing any potential problems successfully. Motivation is from within. “When you begin to perceive that the essence of the Universal is within yourself; is you; you begin to do things; you begin to feel your power; it is the fuel which fires the imagination; which lights the torch of inspiration; which gives vitality to thought; which enables you to connect with all the invisible forces of the Universe. It is this power which will enable you to plan fearlessly, to execute masterfully” ~ The master key.

Company
Being in the company of other positive minded people also helps to ensure the cultivation of the individual’s own positive mindset. Keeping negative people from being a permanent fixture within one’s everyday activities would be a step in the right direction. You must be mind of the people you surround yourself with. I believe that all people we meet with have a bearing and a purpose in our lives. Not all of them are beneficial though.

Try and evaluate all your mates and companions and see what each one of them adds to your life. I can tell you for myself I know amongst my peers who to approach when I am in need of assistance in a certain area say financial; spiritual etc. At least I have an idea of the characters of some of my friends and those I normally associate with and I know what I draw from their lives.

Knowledge
Nothing can substitute knowledge and this comes through hearing and by reading. Another interesting way of staying positive is to surround one’s self with positive posters, quotes, audio and visual media exposure and maybe even trying to commit to memory some helpful and positive abstracts or statements. Attending personal development; self growth workshops and or seminars is another good way to staying motivated.

I have made it a point to read at least one new motivational book every month. This is besides my daily reading of the bible. I can attest that the bible is probably the best book on motivation and inspiration. You can never go wrong reading the bible. Staying motivated also requires that you read books that motivate you at least once a day for thirty minutes.

Exercise
Proven scientific research has shown that regular exercise can also help regulate the chemical balance in the human body and thus create the positive energy that is needed to keep a positive mindset. Thus following a regular exercise routine would be a definite advantage. Meditating and yoga may also help to achieve the same positive mindset as it is predominantly geared towards this end.

There are also some mind exercises and games that help grow your minds. I personally play chess besides a weekly physical exercise schedule. I prefer to do my physical exercise in the early hours of the day. This makes me feel very refreshed as I go about doing my daily business.

He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything“. Have you ever felt that you are on the brink of success? That you can smell success in the air? That you can actually see success coming your way? That you can’t help but succeed in whatever you are doing? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you have hope. Keep the hope alive success is actually coming your way.

We all hope for something. We go to school with the hope of having a better and brighter future. No one on this earth can say that they have never hoped for anything in their life. I believe that for as long as you have the breath of life there is hope for you regardless of the current situation. We live our lives hoping for things to happen every day. When we sleep we hope to wake up the next day at least I do. We work with the hope of getting paid. It is hope that drives our lives.

What is hope?

Imagine every day to be the last of a life surrounded with hopes, cares, anger and fear. The hours that come unexpectedly will be much the more grateful” ~ Horace. Lets start by defining what hope is, “a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen”. Hope is perhaps the most important source of motivation. Hope is the principal emotion towards the future. Resilience is just but a benefit of hope. Hope is precisely, the most central emotion related to the future. We must therefore, strive to acquire and keep it alive, if we are to achieve our intended goals. With hope on your side you can overcome mountains. You have come, this far in life because of the hope that is in you.

You have succeeded because you have kept the spirit of hope alive. Never lose hope or you will die. It is hope that keeps me writing knowing that someone out there is being helped by my articles and I hope that am doing a good job.

Enhance hope

Every one of us should know how to maintain and increase hope in our selves. I have devised a short list of the activities that help me enhance hope in my life. If it works for me it could work for you, make the list a daily part of your habits. Remember habits become character and character becomes your destiny.

  • Hopeful thinking – make efforts to see good and better results when thinking about the future. What you expect from the start determines the future out come. Broaden your thoughts about the future. Your thoughts are closely linked with your hopes. Remember always that you attract whet you think. If you have negative hopes you will definitely reap negative rewards.
  • Have positive thoughts – the more positive thoughts you harbour in your mind the more hope you generate. Look for specific and modifiable reasons to regain control over past failures and place hope in the future. Reject negative thoughts. Anxiety does not help, it takes away valuable energy from your batteries, send encouraging messages to yourself e.g. Henry you will definitely achieve your goals, this is just a temporary set back. Try again at the next available chance.
  • Reflect on the past with serenity – focus on the pleasant things and appreciate them with gratitude. Doing this makes you look at the future in a more positive way. It is therefore very important that you learn from your past failures. I know that we all have failed at some point in life and believe me you will encounter failure in the very near future. Reflect and learn from it.
  • In moments of despair break the cycle by – watching nature, entertaining yourself with something different, listen to music, talk to some old pals or just do anything that distracts you from your current thought patterns. We all go through challenges and it is just important that you clear your mind from them. gain composure and focus on resolving them positively.
  • Be optimistic – hope and optimism are closely related, they always have been. Always have two ways of interpreting the same fact. Everything has a positive and negative side. Examine both but enjoy the positive side of results. There are many encounters in life that can be life changing both positively and negatively. What you choose or follow is what will determine and shape your future.
  • Reading and meditating on maxims of wisdom – is a proven method of elevating ones motivation. Find peace and strength to nourish your hope. One very good book to read is the Holy Bible. You can never go wrong reading the bible. It is full of hope and helps to nourish your mind.
  • Find a good social circle – hope does not only increase through your own influence but also through other people’s influence. Look for people who enjoy hope and be friends with them. Offer your help and see how well you will be received and appreciated. This will make you gain a vision of hope. Vision is an important part of personal development. Without vision and knowledge it is difficult to achieve personal development.
  • Encourage and give hope to others – personal growth also includes transmuting and approaching others with a positive influence. Speak hope to someone going through trials, encourage them, and make them believe that it is just a passing phase and that everything is going to be fine. I personally feel that it is our responsibility to offer hope and help to people who need it. In this vein it is also very important that you ask for help when that time comes.
  • Care for your physical well being – take good care of yourself so that your thinking habits may be hopeful. A simple and varied diet, rest exercise and activity, plenty of water, absence of toxic substances and trusting in God can be of great help to enhancing your hope. When you are in good health you will spend less time worrying and spend more time hoping for good things. Let me encourage you if you are experiencing bad health to focus on getting healed and one best way to do it is to hope for the best. Focus your mind on being healed and hope for the best results.

Hope is a quality closely related to religious faith. Most of the religions are founded on hope or consider it as an important part of religion. Hope links past, present and future. Hope offers eventual and definite end. Keeping thoughts of courage, power, confidence and hope all produce a positive state of mind. Hope;

  • offers salvation
  • is essential to survival
  • takes more than human effort to attain it
  • brings about joy
  • focuses on a perfect and eternal reward.

As a man thinketh so is he in his heart“. You are what you think. If you can think it in your mind then you can be it. There is power in what you think. Do not let other people’s opinions about you, bog you down. We all have different opinions about different people that is just the way it is. Think positively about your self and your life. Speak positive things about yourself no matter what you are going through.

In order to build a healthy and positive thinking process identify your negative thoughts and list them down. Then to each of them identify counter positive thoughts and write them down. Then, every time you engage in negative thinking quickly substitute them with the positive ones. Try this for 21 Days and see if does not become a habit.

I was recently declared redundant by my employers without being psychologically counseled. Off course like any other human being I was demoralized and had no idea what to do next. What has helped me over the fear of being unemployed is my positive thought pattern. I now tell myself that this is an opportunity for me to do what has always been the desire of my heart since I have much more time to myself. So far so good and I do not intend to look for a job any more am now my own BOSS how fantastic.

Watch your thoughts

I have revisited the topic The Power of Thought perhaps it is one of the most important, in the quest for personal development. I believe that you are what you are because of the thoughts you harbour. Everything we do starts up in thoughts before being translated into words and actions.

Our thoughts are responsible for our actions. If we are to list down actions that are not thought invoked the list would be very short if any as opposed to thought invoked actions. Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal. Nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Thoughts and behaviour

With the exception of automatic reactions or repetitive acts, behaviour tends to find its root in the preceding thoughts. Everyone is in charge of their own thoughts. Everybody can harbour, reduce or reject their thoughts. When you are governing your thoughts you are building up your own happiness. In order to avoid adverse thinking, choose a life style that is guided by universal principles and values such as honesty, justice, responsibility, truthfulness, integrity and respect for others. Ultimately our thoughts dictate our behaviour. If you wake up thinking negatively even your attitude will be negative. If your thinking is positive even your attitude is positive.

Nature your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think” ~ Benjamin Disraeli. Positive thinking is an excellent option in order to preserve mental health and to reach your intended goals. The mind has exactly the same power as the hands not merely to grasp the world but to change it. Your thoughts can help change the world. Stop being negative in your thoughts, think positively.

How to think positively

Our life is what our thoughts make it” ~ Marcus Aurelius. Healthy and optimistic thinking helps:-

– maintain a balance in social interactions
– increase general personal performance e.g. school & work
– helps to block anxiety
– increase self-esteem
– strengthens the immune system
– creates good mood

  • Learn how to think positively –  I have devised a method to help think positively. I hope you find it helpful and beneficial. To reject negative thoughts and replace them with alternative positive options is a good way to a positive thinking life style. Remember positive thinking must be an ongoing permanent style of mental activity.
  • Think positively about your self – Accept your limitations and do something to improve them. Do not forget to underline your values and abilities. Stop and reject negative thoughts about yourself.
  • Think positively about the past – it cannot be changed. The maxim “yesterday is history” holds water in this case. Accept the past even though it may have unpleasant events. Do not blame the past for your current situation. And as far as past positive events, remember them and enjoy them. Never get obsessed with a disagreeable passed. Your attitude will improve and turn positive.
  • Think positively about your future – your attitude today has a direct effect and bearing on your future events. When you think with confidence and hope about tomorrow, you are increasing the probability of a much successful future.
  • Think positively about people – we are all not perfect, but there are lots of good things about each one of us. Do not grow suspicious of the other people. Trust them and respect them. Make efforts to feel affection towards other people. Try and understand their problems. Help them and you will see how your attitude becomes better.

The topic “power of thought” is a much deep one. I believe that it is one of the core subjects to improving your personal development and needs a lot of study and understanding.
