Time to Change Relationships that Need to be Changed

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

The year 2020 will be remembered as a year that came with a lot of change. It changed the order of doing things. We were all either affected and or infected by the virus that has continued to ravage the world, the COVID-19 pandemic.

This change has been forced upon us. We have had to adapt to the new norm of doing things, such as wearing face masks, regular use of hand sanitisers, and taking extra precautions when going out in public. Social gatherings are restricted. But, like in every other challenge some people have thrived and some have, all but complained.

The lessons taken from the preceding year are very valuable. The experiences of the closing year have taught us that we need to change some relationships going forward. There is need to readjust our lives to conform to the new order of doing things.

Humans are well known for being social in nature. In Africa we love large gatherings, be it social, political, spiritual, or whatever, we just love them. However, I don’t see this coming back in the shortest possible time. Surely for as long as the COVID-19 pandemic is around, life will not be as it was before.

How to Make the Change

A nice way to make the change, as we begin the new year is to identify your relationships and evaluate them. Clarify your relationships on how you would like them to affect the various aspects of your life. Then take the necessary action that you would expect to improve these relationships. You need to make rational goals.

For example, the following relationships have a bearing on my life:-

  • Finances/money
  • Family
  • Work
  • Health
  • Friends
  • Spirituality
  • Website

I will take the relationship with finances/money as an example. Am sure that most of us have a story to tell on this one. If your relationship with finances is not as good as it should be, maybe you are struggling to make earns meet or maybe your current job does not pay as much as you should be getting.

List down your monthly expenses and compare them with your current income. Now, list down your desired expenditure and compare it with your current income. Your desired expenditure is what you would like to be spending on a monthly basis without stressing.

Identify and cut down on unnecessary expenditure. Find more ways to improve your earnings to supplement your current paycheck. If your current job is not flexible enough to allow you to do extra work maybe, it is not the right job for you.

Invest in your skills by getting an education that will help enhance your career and productivity. Read more about how to manage finances/money. Have definite, realistic, and achievable goals that will keep you motivated. Work on your goals every day.

This year I have set a target to create passive income for myself. It seems hard work for now, but I think it will pay off as this will greatly improve my income and free up time for me. I have identified a few sources that I think are worth trying out. I will be sharing during the course of the year on the progress.

You may be asking, what if you do not realise your goals within the time frame? Well, you can adjust the time frame, the most important thing is, you have a target you are working towards. You have something to work with.

One of the reasons why we have a poor relationship with our finances is that we work for money instead of letting money work for us.

Set Resolutions for the Year

One way of keeping track of your progress is to have a set of written down resolutions and a habit of reviewing them on a regular basis. This year resolve to improve on your shortcomings. Resolve to improve on those poor relationships that are greatly affecting your life negatively.

Make resolutions and work towards achieving them. Start with a few that can easily be managed. This will encourage and challenge you to move on to those that will take you much longer and are seemingly difficult to repair or manage.

The best time for me to make resolutions is usually at the beginning of the calendar year. However, there is no rule, you can actually make them at any time of the year and begin to work on them as you please. But you must make and work them anyway.

It is a good idea to have resolutions that are precise and measurable. This way, when you are reviewing them, you will be able to determine how much progress has been made and determine if there is need for adjustment. I normally review mine on a quarterly basis.

Yes, I know that sometimes I lag behind. By reviewing my resolutions on a regular basis ensures that am reminded of them and can easily get to work on improving those that have remained behind. I find it normal that there are always some that I carry forward into the following year.

Be Optimistic

To be optimistic is to be hopeful and confident about the future. Being optimistic is key in ensuring that you achieve the resolutions that you have set. It is an important ingredient to have when we have set targets for ourselves.

Otherwise, there is no point in setting goals and resolutions that you are not optimistic of achieving. That is why it is important to set goals and resolutions that are fairly reasonable and achievable.

That nice feeling you get when you have accomplished a task should be repeated more often. It should be what drives you to even greater heights. You must make it your driving force and leverage on it to push you in your quest for personal development and self-growth.

Being optimistic is a great sign of confidence in what you are doing. It shows that you are in control and are expectant of positive results. Yes, sometimes results may not be as expected. But this should not make you give up.

If you want to succeed you must develop a habit of setting resolutions at the beginning of every year. This helps you set the tone and pace and what you are going to achieve during the year. It gives you a sense and purpose to live life. “For changes to be of any true value, they’ve got to be lasting and consistent” – Tony Robbins.

Nothing is Perfect the First Time

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

There is nothing that was created or invented by man that was perfected the first time. Everything that we do or have done is never perfect the first time.

All the nice buildings and all the beautiful things that are man-made were not perfect at the first attempt. A lot of planning, research, rebuilding, and hard work had to be undertaken.

That is why there is a constant quest for improvement of the gadgets that are used daily. The gadgets that were more valuable and efficient in the last 5 or 10 years may now be obsolete.

This is the same as in the journey of life and in the pursuit of personal development and self-improvement, one must always strive to continuously seek to improve themselves.

They say practice makes perfect. Nature requires and usually compels us to move on. However, we decide the direction of that movement.

If you look back at your life five years ago, you will agree that there is a change and the direction of that change was sorely influenced by yourself. You are the driver of that change.

Nothing is perfect, if things were perfect there would be no need for continuous improvement. There would be no need for research and development.

However, nature is perfect and nature is neutral. We get from nature what we give it. If you are optimistic nature gives you back optimism; when you are positive you get exactly that; if you are expectant you will meet with expectation.

In other words, you get your heart’s desires. The Bible says “ask and you shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened.

I don’t know about you, but I know that am still very much a work in progress. Am far from being a perfect role model and forgive me if at all, I present myself as perfect, it is not my intention.

Every day comes with its challenges and I am continuously learning new things. I keep an open mind and have learned to focus on the positive things in life.

I am always grateful to God Almighty for allowing me to serve him daily. Every day that we are alive is a gift and an opportunity to make a difference.

Yes, life will give you what you do not anticipate, but you have the right to make a choice. You may not know it but some people are worse off than you are right now. There are people you can help even in your current situation.

Continue to Doing Something to Change Your Current Situation

A successful individual typically sets his next goal somewhat, but not too much above his last achievement. In this way, he steadily raises his level of aspiration” – Kurt Lewin.

Success does not come to those who wait for it; neither does it come to those who are lazy. If you want to achieve your life’s intended purpose you must work towards achieving them.

The important thing is to get started and work daily. Do something every day that helps you move closer to achieving your desired life’s purpose.

Slowly but surely you will meet with success as you continue to improve on your daily activities.

The trouble is many of us want to be financially independent yet are not willing to work hard and smart to achieve our dreams.

Instead, we complain about how hard life is and how things are not going well for us. We expect life to be easy and yet are not willing to pay the price now for a better future.

Remember that nature is neutral and it gives you back what you give it. If you want to achieve financial freedom, you should be willing to pay the price for it.

Everything that you want to achieve has a price tag. Nature will pay you back the exact price that you are willing to pay.

Over the years I have learned that the key to achieving your desired life’s goals is to firstly realise, that no one is responsible for your current situation but yourself.

In other words, you must take responsibility for your current situation. Acknowledge that you are mostly responsible for being in the current situation and secondly do something to change it, because if you don’t, no one is going to change it for you.

Yes, it may be tough but it can be done. The Bible says “do not despise the days of your humble beginnings”.

To succeed you need to start small and be persistent. Be prepared to fail the first time and learn from your mistakes. Keep on improving.

Refuse to accept failure. They say “Rome was not built in one day” but neither was it built in two days.

The small things that you do every day, count towards achieving your goals.

Yes, life will throw things at you, but do not be discouraged, there is always something to be learned from the difficult situations.

Remember that God always provides a way where there seems to be no way. There is nothing too big or too small for God. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.

I know that sometimes we may feel that things are not going accordingly. That is the time to double your efforts because after every storm the sea is calm.

The Bible says “weeping may stay for the night but rejoicing comes in the morning”. Life is full of ups and downs.

If you have been following my blog for some time you will notice that my earlier articles were not as refined as the current ones.

I would confidently say that there is a great improvement in both the content and quality of the articles. The improvement did not come without a cost.

I had to put in the time. This, however, does not mean that my articles are perfect, but they have improved over time. Though I know that there is always room for improvement.

As such am always seeking to make the necessary changes. My dream is for this website to be the number one destination for personal development and self-development materials and articles, and will be distributed for free.

We are Responsible for the State of Our Communities

If you believe that you are responsible for being in your current situation then it is also true that you are directly or indirectly responsible for the current state of your society or country at large.

I know this may sound ridiculous but I think it is the truth. Whether we like it or not we have a part to play in developing and shaping the direction of our societies and countries at large.

We may be complaining about the poor service delivery of the various government departments. But if we wait for help from the government it may never come and it surely takes a very long time before it comes.

Why can we not do something about it ourselves? After all, we are the ones that are greatly affected.

We can contribute to society in so many ways. There are many avenues out there that can be used to help improve society.

If we are to see meaningful change, we must be the change carriers. Change begins with you and me, changing our ways and influencing other people.

For example, we could start by restoring our families. I know that many of us, our families are hurting and broken.

I believe that at the foundation of every prosperous society is a strong family bond. If you are a parent and have neglected your family it is high time you started taking responsibility for your family.

Your children need you more than ever before. Do not be an absentee parent. You may be going through a bad patch in your life but that is no reason to abandon or forsake them.

It is time to show them how responsible you are. It is the time to reassure them and let them stand with you.

There is nothing more satisfying than spending time with your loved ones.

There are many broken homes out there and this has resulted in broken societies.

Be Patient With Yourself

To grow we must learn to be patient with ourselves. Growth is not instant but gradual.

I always say that all growth is from within. That is why we are all born babies and grow to adulthood with time.

There is a time for everything. A time to play, a time to study, and a time to grow. We start crawling before we stand and start to walk.

We learn or acquire skills before we start using them. God has given us time to learn and prepare ourselves for the challenges that lie ahead.

God has also equipped us with the necessary requisites to cope with life’s challenges.

Be patient and allow yourself to enjoy what you are doing. Remember that not everything you are doing now will have instant results.

You do certain tasks for future results. You acquire certain skills and knowledge that will come in handy in the future.

Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose your ability to learn new things and move forward in your life” – Dr. David M. Burns.

With time and effort, you will achieve your desired results. Remember always that perfection is not achieved at the first go.

It takes time, patience, persistence, and dedication to achieve it. Bye for now and remember to always “standout tall and be counted”. Revised on 06/03/2021.

It’s time to review your resolutions

Motivational Quotes

“Failure is blindness to the strategic element in events; success is readiness for instant action when the opportune moment arrives.”  – Newell D. Hillis.

We are nearly coming to the end of the year and it’s about time you started reviewing what your current goals are and what you have achieved. If you did not start out with any resolutions at the beginning of the year perhaps this is the right time to evaluate what you have achieved during the year. “To be successful you must decide exactly what you want to accomplish, and then resolve to pay the price to get it” -Bunker Hunt. The only thing you have to fear is not giving 100%. There are no limitations to any of our dreams.

I believe that you do not have to wait until the end of the year to write down your goals or resolutions. You can start now and align yourself as the year progresses. If you are living your life without setting goals for your life then, you are living an aimless life, you are simply drifting along. It is very important to have a written down set of goals and work towards achieving them.

I know for a fact; that every reasonable human being has a set of aspirations they would want to achieve. You may not have realised it but even those that do not have written down resolutions have some sort of aspirations. You will agree with me that if you ask a child, what they would like to be when they grow up they will definitely tell you something. Some of the happiest of people I have come across are those that make resolutions that are written down and they are vigorously pursuing them.

Writing is a great reminder

You can do anything you put your mind to” – Unknown. Do not just rely on your memory write down your resolutions and read them very often. Writing down your resolutions keeps reminding you of what you need to achieve in a specified period. If you are serious about your personal growth you will have written down resolutions that feed into their intended life’s purpose. This also acts as a gauge to your life. You will always make your own assessment to see if you are moving towards achieving your written down resolutions or are drifting away from them and keep yourself in line.

I know for a fact that it takes a lot of discipline to live according to your written down plan. But remember that discipline is a habit that can be learned. Every day comes with its own challenges but, it is also important that we try and fit those daily challenges in to our plans. Everyone including those that are successful have challenges and the difference is that they have learned to be more disciplined by doing that which helps them more to achieve their goals. “Great minds have purpose others have wishes” – Washington Irvin.

Your written down periodical resolutions should feed into your overall intended life’s purpose. You will use your resolutions as a vehicle to drive you towards your life’s bigger picture. I can assure you that you will most likely not achieve all of your resolutions in the specified period that you have set yourself. Don’t worry about that, the most important thing is that you have them written down and this will keep reminding you of them as you review your progress.

Give yourself genuine targets

Your resolutions must be accompanied by genuine measureable targets. It will give you more motivation and encouragement as you achieve each and every resolution your have written down. I know that it is important to challenge ourselves, but these targets should be realistic and achievable. Failure to achieve your targets in a specified period should not be a limiting factor. The most important thing is to learn from your failures and keep on improving until you have achieved your plans.

Your targets could be set for review on a periodical basis e.g. weekly, monthly or quarterly depending on how often you want to monitor your own progress. When setting your targets please ensure that they can be easily measured and assessed by both yourself and an independent person that you have shared them with.

Be honest with yourself when carrying out a self assessment. Remember that only you know yourself better than anyone else. It is important to be honest with yourself before you can be honest with other people.

Reward yourself

The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it” – John Rushkin. Life is too short. Always reward yourself for accomplishing your goals. Rewarding yourself should be done only when you have met your set resolutions for that period. This will help to keep you motivated to work extra hard as your mind will be looking forward to the rewards after wards.

Keep your rewards modest so as not to overshadow yourself with instant gratification. Look at the bigger picture of what you want to achieve and keep your mind focused on doing what you have to do to achieve your overall intended life’s purpose. Also keep in mind that you are not in competition with anyone and that success is not a destination but a joyful journey. Personal development and growth is about yourself and not anyone else.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you stay motivated and focused on the bigger picture of your personal development and growth. I have noticed that many of us like to blame our failures on other people. But remember that most of the times we are not forced to make the bad choices and decisions that have lead to failure and destruction.

I therefore, challenge you to review your years achievements whether you have resolutions for the current year or not. The fact that you are not dead means that you must have achieved something even if it is failure. If you have your resolutions written down, it is time you started reviewing them and start thinking about how strong you are going to end the year. It is also time you started thinking about making your next year’s resolutions and have them ready as you start working on them at the turn of the year. Stay blessed and remember to always “Standout tall and be counted”.

Tick tok, tick tok, time is ticking

Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff that life is made of” ~ Benjamin Franklin. Tick tok, tick tok the clock is ticking, never backwards but always forward. You want it or not; like it or not; believe it or not, time does not wait for anybody. Time is no respecter of persons. If God is an unfair God then he has been very generous and fair to all of us by giving us 24hrs to be utilized in a day. It does not matter whether you are rich or poor, black or white, able bodied or physically challenged whatever and where ever you maybe, we all share the same hours of the day and that is 24hrs. No single person or country is more privileged than the other to have more or less hours.

The first quarter of the year has but gone, ask yourself what you have achieved as against what you have intended to achieve by the end of the year. Many of us will not realize that we have achieved very little or nothing at all. If you are in this bracket stop and take a serious inventory of yourself. I am not perfect either but am consoled by the fact that I have achieved most of my monthly targets. Certain things have happened to me that may derail my progress but I take them as challenges rather than as problems.

Look forward
We all have lost time at some point in our lives. The key is how you get up and recover it. There is so much to look forward to for me than to look at spilled milk. Yes sometimes I have lost a lot of time, but I always encourage myself by rereading my written down life’s purpose on a regular basis. This gives me a sense and purpose to live for. I imagine and appreciate the life ahead of me and how comfortable it will be. My written down “life’s purpose” is one of the motivating factors.

Whatever is done is done and what ever has not been done has to be done. If you are to become a better person and an achiever you need to improve on how to utilize your time. Time management is of the essence. Great men and women are those that have learned how to manage the precious commodity called time. If there is anything that has to be taught or learned at an early stage in life it is time management. Unfortunately our educational system does not teach us how to manage and utilize time. How I wish this could be introduced in our schooling systems.

Sometimes I feel that most of what we learn from our schools is irrelevant in our lives. Most of the stuff does not apply. What a waste of time and resources. Please this does not mean you should not get an education. You need it. When you wake up every morning, regardless of your circumstances, look forward to getting started with the day. There is so much waiting for you out there.

Have the courage
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to ones courage” ~ Anais Nin. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be discouraged” ~ the Bible. In order to succeed at anything you need to be bold and courageous. You will need to take bold steps.  Some steps will off course trample on other people’s toes but if it is the right thing to do just do it. Warning, PLEASE DO NOT CREATE ADVERSARIES.

I will be very honest here, some decisions I have made have actually offended other people. But under the circumstances they were about the best choices I have made in my life. These choices have been life changing and over time wounds have been healed. As a human being you are bound at some point in life to make some tough decisions and like I always say decisions have to be made. Wrong or right. It could be resigning from your current job; it could be cutting links with some of your old mates or any other life changing decision. It could be that you are wasting time in your current job and are not progressing. Please be wise and pray over it before you make those life changing decisions. Have a master plan for your life, especially if you are married and have children to support.

If you have a plan for something just do it. Many of the times we spend a lot time procrastinating and let our good plans go to waste. If I can recall, I’ve had so many plans on how to make money and most of them have gone down the drain. Not because they were not viable ideas but because they were not even tested. I know that this describes some of you. Lastly we must all endeavor to learn and appreciate how to manage time this is the only way to ensure personal development and growth. Above all “standout tall and be counted”.

Business Success

5 Tools for a successful business

We all want to have a successful business do we? But, what tools do you need to have for a successful business? Many of us focus too much on the money part and neglect other important ingredients of a successful business. Yes I know and understand that money is important so are the tools you use to generate it. Any business cannot generate enough revenue without tools. In this article I discuss a list of key ingredients for business to succeed. These I have proven and think they will be helpful to you, especially if you are just starting out.

1)  Time
You must understand that time is money and it is of essence. Time is an important tool in anything we do. In business, your objective is to make money period. How do you make money? You utilize time accordingly. But the question is how productively you convert your time into money. Are you making full use of your time or you just let the time pass by you? Time once lost cannot be recovered.

How much you make depends on how good you are at converting time to money. If you are already productive, then you may want to ask; what are the things you can do to improve further. Remember time is the most valuable asset and once it’s gone, it’s gone. Also time is also the fairest distribution of resources every human being receives. If there is anything God has given us all in equal proportion it is time. Everybody on earth experiences the same hours of day and night. I have never heard of anyone saying that he enjoys more time than 24 hrs per day.

2)  People
The second tool for me is people. To be successful in business, you must have people connections. I mean the right people. People consist of customers, suppliers, partners, staff, and associates. I cannot imagine a business that is successful without people. If there are no people connected to your business I can guarantee you that you are wasting your time.

One thing that you must not leave out is your mentor or coach. Having genuine mentors or coaches is very important and it can make a very big difference in your business. What a mentor does is that they will help you grow through your business. You will gain valuable knowledge if you have a good mentor. You should also have a mentor not just for your business also for your personal growth.

To make sure that you have more profits, you must serve people well. Organize your database of people connections. By simply knowing who does what, who supplies what, who needs what, where to get what make your miles ahead of other people. Even if you are doing affiliate marketing you need to know the needs of your affiliates.

3)  Knowledge and Skills
The third tools you need are a combination of set of knowledge and skills. When I talk about knowledge and skills, I am not referring to academic knowledge that you find in schools or colleges including universities. What’s more important to you is knowledge and skills that can bring you the kind of results you want and usually these are not found in schools.

How many MBA holders that you know of have become business owners and have made tones of money or are running successful businesses? That shows you that getting the right knowledge and skills is important. Don’t blindly go after knowledge that could drown you. Go for knowledge and skills that are universally tested and proven. Get knowledge that is relevant to your business. Study what other related businesses are doing and do it better.

Examples of right knowledge and skills are where to get what from who, money making trends, marketing strategies, art of dealing with people, negotiation skills, selling skills, skills of managing and growing money, investment skills, universal laws of success, and more. Don’t waste time on unnecessary knowledge. There’s only so much that you need to know and learn. Be sharp and focus when you acquire knowledge and skills. Don’t follow what normal people do. Above all put your knowledge and skill set to practice.

4)  Personal Health
You cannot make money when you are in bad health. My number 4 tool is good personal health. In fact, this is the most important tool of all. How can you run a business without a healthy body? In order to maintain an optimum health, you have to provide your body with proper nutrients and sufficient exercise. And also don’t forget about your emotional well being  Don’t let anger and other negative emotions control you.

This is where positive and empowering attitudes come into play. Maintaining your body is just like maintaining your car. If you send your car to a workshop for regular service and pump petrol regularly, why don’t you do the same for your body? It’s something for you to think about. Don’t be stingy over spending money for your own health because physical and mental health can cost you a lot of money in the long run if your body is not taken care of properly.

5)  Resources
Let’s face it. It takes money to make money even you need a little. But you might not need a lot of money to start a business because there are many ways to start one with low capital especially affiliate marketing programs.

I meet a lot of people who want to be rich but are not willing to invest the money. You must invest in something in order for you to get something. The law of sowing and reaping is at work. Don’t expect something without investing anything. Money is one of the investments you need to make.

Even though you don’t need to have a capital for your business, but at least you must be able to cover your expenses while building your business. You also need resources to buy products to stock up and other stuff. So, you must at least come up with whatever amount that you have to start a business.

These are the five basic tools of business success. I call them tools because you need to use them in order for your business to succeed. Do your best to acquire or grow or invest in these personal tools. These tools have worked for me even in the area of personal development. But the good thing is you don’t need to have a perfect combination of tools to get started. You can still perfect the tools along the way. Somehow, get it started with what you’ve got. Remember to always “standout tall and be counted
